@FarmWifeGina: Oh my, you must be exhausted! Get some rest and feel better soon. Oh, and I'm just hoping baby waits til after dh is done harvesting - so you're not alone cuz I'm not wanting to go anytime soon.

@Ash: We finished flowers last night and hopefully corn will be finished next week, so yeah, *crossing fingers* on that end too. I don't want to wait until then to feel better, but it would really be nice to have someone around to nurse me back to health.

@FarmWifeGina: that's wishful thinking here. I'm not even sick and only want a foot rub most days that I don't get cuz dh is too busy. We're about the same on finishing - 40 acres left plus the other fields they harvest for people. I really hope you catch a break before your lo makes his/her appearance!

@FarmWifeGina: I'm fine with that - as long as I get my meal lol!

@FarmWifeGina: I'm drooling thinking about it!
We're keeping the thread alive while the others are sleeping. Not sure if that's good or bad - for us.

@Ash: Lol, bad for us. Although, I just watched a fascinating episode of Nature on different animals' mating rituals on PBS. My 4-year-old woke up and watched a bit with me and thought the lemurs were hysterical.

@FarmWifeGina: lol I probably would've found it hilarious too! I'm so immature.
This is what I get for going to bed at 8pm, I guess!

@Ash: What are your contractions doing? How many of hours of work do you need yet?

  11. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@FarmWifeGina: they've settled down. I think they were caused by the crazy day at work - no sitting plus lack of hydration. I only need 16 more! So after the weekend I'll be in the clear! Such a relief!!!!

    @sweetooth: Happy early birthday!

I'm raking leaves and taking walks today in the hopes that I can get this baby moving! My lower back definitely hurts, and I thought I was feeling a little crampy, so we'll see.

I *thought* I wanted to go overdue but changed my mind once I got closer, haha! But baby only has 'till midnight tonight to show up early, and I'm still not having any signs of labour, so I think it's happening late regardless of what I want.

@Mrs. J: Thank you! And I would think the lower back pain is a good sign. Keep walking and raking!

@FarmWifeGina: Thank you! I'm with you on the multiple reasons too. My due date is 11/28, so I'm hoping it sticks!

@Ash: A "favorable cervix", now there's something you don't hear everyday

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@DigAPony: Do you wake up everyday that goes by thinking, "Today could be the day!" - I'm just curious what it's like once the due date is in the rearview mirror...

@MrsDragon: No signs at all? No Braxton Hicks? Lower back pain?

  24. mrsmacandcheese

@sweetooth: I haven't been able to figure out BH the whole pregnancy, honestly! I've had some cramping that feels like period cramps, which my doctor said is likely BH, but I have yet to feel ANYTHING that seems like it has a start or stop... just generally crampy, and that's been happening for weeks. Mostly my ribs still hurt, even though baby is definitely head down and low, and sometimes I get the lightning crotch feeling around my cervix, but I feel like it's all just her movement causing it.

  25. Mrs. J

    pomelo / 5132 posts

@anbanan15: I go on Monday for an NST and an ultrasound if Baby J hasn't arrived yet.
@DigAPony: eek! How long will they let you go? Mine will let me go 2 weeks, but I'm really hoping this weekend proves eventful.

@MrsDragon: I feel like this week for me - end of week 36 into the start of week 37 - is when I have really started to understand the idea of BH. Seems like crampy feelings and lightning crotch (do you mean like little zaps of lightning?) are definitely signs...

  27. mrsmacandcheese

    blogger / clementine / 985 posts

@sweetooth: Sort of like shooting pain from her hitting a nerve or something? She seems to get really uncomfortable if I sit down for too long -- she sticks her butt out up by my ribs and starts jabbing her feet and hands, and something toward her head seems to cause it. It's almost like she's punching me in the cervix, haha!

@Mrs. J: I hope this is a productive weekend for you!! My doctor will let me go to the 20th, I think, so 12 days past my due date. But if they start talking induction I want to get his opinion on the later due date the tech suggested, because that'd buy me an extra 5 days.

This baby is making me go insane! I swear she shifted sideways this morning. Massive lumps coming straight out my side, rump like in size...hello 38 weeks!

@Mrs. J: I've never been to Chipotle but it would love to find one and gobble down!

@FarmWifeGina: heck yeah! And 1.5cm more than I expected to be dilated so I'll take it! Still not getting my hopes up tho.

@anbanan15: baby is just teasing, I hope! I'd like to wait at least another week!

    @DigAPony: Thanks! How ya feeling?

@sweetooth: I know! I walked out like a puffed up peacock after being told that lol!

I don't think of bh to be like cramps but more a tightening of my uterus.

@Mrs. J: fingers crossed Baby J decides to join the world this weekend!

  30. DigAPony

    pear / 1787 posts

@sweetooth: Yes, I totally do! And every night when I go to bed I think "maybe contractions will wake me up in a few hours!" It's honestly frustrating but of course exciting.

@Mrs. J: My practice lets you go until 42 weeks also, so for me that would be the 18th. I have a NST at my next appointment too (next Wednesday) and then we'll discuss induction methods and days at that point if necessary. I am SOOOOO hoping to not make it to that appointment! Fingers crossed for both of us!

At my last appointment, my midwife really endorsed nipple stimulation to get contractions going. She said to just kind of tweak/twist your nipples (not so much that it's painful though) one at a time, ten minutes per side, with a little break in between sides. She said you could also use a pump to do this if you wanted. Well, I opened up my little manual pump last night and did ten minutes on each side and I definitely felt contractions afterward (just nothing that lasted, obviously). I was also totally shocked because I pumped a good amount of colostrum too!

  31. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@DigAPony: YES! It can totally work if you're ready to go! Better yet, if you're already having early labor, it can be exactly what you need to get the ball rolling for active labor- I can testify! If you google, there are different protocols for pumping to bring on a natural contraction pattern and labor, which it sounds like your midwife has already addressed.

@Mrs. J: @DigAPony: If you haven't been for an NST yet, they're really kind of cool. You sit there and listen to baby's heartbeat, and if you're having contractions you can see them on the monitor. My BH last time looked like little rolling hills.

@DigAPony: This might be a weird question, but are you going to keep the colostrum? I'm a little hesitant to try nipple stimulation because just looking at my nipples funny seems to make me leak. I have a feeling I would pump a ton and I'm not sure if I should save it or throw it away.

  33. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@ShootingStar: As someone with chronic low milk supply, my instincts say SAVE IT!!!!!!! LIQUID GOLD!!!!!! STASH IT!!!!!! But, of course, that's up to you, you probably won't even need it!

  34. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@DigAPony: Yup, I agree with nipple stim working! Um, not from personal experience though obviously. But really only going to work if you're in early labor. My midwife advised that along with sex to get the ball rollin. All dh heard was sex and nipples....

  35. DigAPony

    pear / 1787 posts

@ShootingStar: That's not weird! I totally considered saving it but ultimately decided not to, mostly because I didn't know what I would save it in! I also figured that since it's coming out and baby's not even here, I'll have plenty once he actually arrives (even if he has latch problems I can pump and give it to him that way).

@FarmWifeGina: Glad to hear it worked for you! I'm going to keep doing it and hope it gets things going. My midwife also said that if possible, it's great to have sex and then do the nipple stimulation, so that you get the softening effects from the prostaglandins in the semen, and then get your uterus contracting from the stimulation. Will have to try that (if I ever feel up to having sex, ha).

  36. DigAPony

    pear / 1787 posts

@Ash: Ha, yeah, I told my husband that and he was very excited! I think he's hoping that we'll have sex and then I'll go into labor right afterward so that he feels like it was all because of him.

  37. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@DigAPony: well of course... Just like my dh claiming he's the reason we're pregnant. At the point you're at, I'd let him think what he wants if it puts you into labor! Right?

  38. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@FarmWifeGina: @DigAPony: I've got tons of free Lansinoh bags here, plus you can pump directly to a bottle. But then I wasn't sure how long it would be good for and if I should just freeze it right away, and then what to do with it after - mix with BM later? Feed on it's own?

Every so often I have a strong contraction, and with being on bed rest I can't really go for a long walk to get things going! I would love to have sex, but OMG, I can't even figure out the mechanics of that right now. So in terms of getting this party moving, nipple stimulation seems like a good way to go.

  39. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@ShootingStar: It can keep 6 months in a regular freezer (refrigerator freezer) and a year in a deep freeze, but needs to be used up within 24 hours of thawing. You could use it right away if you need to supplement for whatever reason, or just mix it in with the regular stuff later, or mix into baby cereal or whatever even later. Or save it as topical medicine for all kinds of randomness, lol. Breastmilk is the new duct tape.
