October 2012 Mama's Part 2

For nighttime feedings, where do you nurse? Mostly unimportant question, but as I sit in mine and DHs room, he's snoring in bed... I want to throw something at him, lol.

I don't like the rocker in nursery, my back is already too awful, we have a leather recliner in our room that is the go-to.

Foolishly, DH and I talked yesterday about more kids, if our # changed. Mine has, I would have said 3-4 before and now I would love one more and maybe that's it! DH thought same for similar reasons, we'll see what happens I guess

I'm going slightly crazy with the inlaws here, coping as best I can. Need to remember DH sacrificed a lot moving away, we wouldn't have met had he not, and despite not always feeling it, they are just here to help. ...*sighs*

    Burp time!

Baguette is a perfect golden brown and ready tO come out of the oven! Water broke at home about 4 hours ago, got to the hospital and was already a 4. Contractions suck but I'm powering through.

    Congrats @hellobeeboston!
Woohoo @tidybee! I hope that baby gets here ASAP!!!
@BeeBug - we nurse in the nursery in an upholstered rocker. Very comfy. I can't get situated in our bed to Nurse, plus her diaper always needs to be changed.

LO is 3 weeks today! Time is flying! October is almost over... Besides TidyBee, is anyone else left?

@Tidybee: yay for our last (?) October baby! So excited for you.

I nurse my babe in bed, with a bunch of pillows propping me up. Too lazy to go anywhere else I guess hahaha. The baby sleeps in our room too.

@Tidybee: yay! So excited for you!

@Beebug: I nurse in the nursery in the glider at night and during the day. It's just easier for me there. I need to practice side lying nursing so I don't have to get out of bed at night

DH and I had a rough night with the babe last night. We try to go to bed around 10 depending on when his last feeding is. But last night he just did not want to go to sleep and wanted to nurse every hour. He finally went down around 11:30. He was up again at 1 am. I nursed him but again he wouldn't settle and go back to sleep. I finally topped him off and he finally went to sleep at 2:30 am. What a night. I sure hope he sleeps better tonight. Or maybe he's going through a growth spurt? Ugh I'm tired.

  12. CarrieLouWho

    persimmon / 1408 posts

@Mrskc- our LO does that just about every night now. We go up around 9 or 10 and can't get her to go down until 1130-1230. It's starting to drive me mad, we can't figure out how to change it :(. If you figure it out or have suggestions, my ears are open!!!

Ladies ahead of me, when did supply find it's way? Like....slow down and regulate? Omg the pain, the leakage, I'm definitely over that part.

Anyone given their LO a soother? DH wanted to, and I'm not sure!

  14. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

@Beebug: I hear ya on the pain! My let down is still really uncomfortable--hoping it lets up soon. As for a paci, we gave LO one after about a week (our pedi also recommended it, as some studies show that using a paci decreases the risk of SIDS). We only use it when he's tired and seems like he need to suck in order to fall asleep (so maybe once or twice a day). The soothies brand has been his fave so far. And as far as I can tell, it hasn't caused any issue with taking the breast.

@Tidybee: can't wait to her how it goes:) good luck:)
@Beebug: yes we give DS avent smoothies in the car and while we're running errands so he doesn't scream (he never has;he's a good baby). We don't give it to him any other time. He also takes 1 bottle at night....so I'm not worried about nipple confusion because he takes the breast without problems for 95% of the feedings he has throughout the week.

  16. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

I didn't even think about nipple confusion, with the way she latches I am not thinking that will be an issue. Just not sure when it's appropriate to give, I know I can be too simplistic at times (I see it as something that adds stress later when it's weaned I guess?) But know I should consider it for the benefits I suppose -so just interested to know when you ladies use it, thank-you!

I think I am finally getting me some sore nipples!!! Going to be careful and make sure I keep 'em lubed up, but it's a little more painful at latch time.

MIL made full on turkey dins for tonight, can't wait.

Baguette is here!!!! It's a girl!!!!! Claire Morgan born at 1:05, 6 lbs, 15 oz. Our families, especially mommy were shocked! She is so perfect.
I labored naturally til 8cm but the vomiting and shaking got to be way too much for me to handle even with DH's rock solid performance as cheerleader. I got an awesome epi and could still feel all the pressure. After 50 minutes of pushing, she was out! Will post pics! Thanks for all the well wishes! It definitely brightened my spirits in the throws of labor

@Tidybee: yay! Congrats on your baby girl. Love the name and can't wait to see pics.

I think I might have to try the paci especially for car rides. It's this delicate cycle trying to get him into the car seat and strapped in. It's so hard to get out of the house. I really start to get cabin fever if I don't get some fresh air.

  20. CarrieLouWho

    persimmon / 1408 posts

    Congrats @Tidybee! Love her name!!!

I've tried the paci, but DD doesn't really like it. Our LC said to only use if we know she's not hungry and she has a clean diaper - basically don't use the paci as a quick fix or substitute for other things and you're fine.

DD is 3 weeks today and I think my supply has regulated. I don't have a lot of leakage and I don't notice any engorgement. I also don't feel my let down

    @Tidybee: Congrats! Breautiful name!

    As far as sleep goes......
LO still has night and day confused. She is a very alert baby and manages to stay awake from 11pm-4am most nights. I've been getting very little sleep since her arrival. She never cries but makes grunting noises if I try and lay her down. Eventually she does get upset if I leave her down.

@TurtleDoves: Yes, all of the fixin's involved.

Only dinner was ruined by the inlaws telling me they booked our flights for Christmas. DH and I hadn't even said yes to Christmas away this year (we always fly to DH's hometown at Christmas, I said this year let's wait to book until all settled with baby). So yah, I ruined that dinner by losing my shit. Paying for it wasn't the issue, just wanted to make sure we'd be ok to go with an 8 week old. *sigh* last night was rough.

My biological father is driving up here from Georgia Wednesday night, will arrive Thursday sometime, if he "goes there" with the Grandpa names crap.....wait for Beebug loses her shit round #2, why can't people lay off! We just had a baby, lol.

@Tidybee: Good work!! Isn't vomiting through contractions fun? My epi sign up began shortly after that insanity began too!!! Congrats

@mrskc: I have had craaaaaazy cabin fever. The blessing to having the inlaws staying with us is that I have been able to get away every day. BRU Saturday with DH, dog training class yesterday with DH, I call them "dates" lol. Hour and a half out between feedings has been awesome. I have lessened my anxiousness to get out with her though, decided to start bawling at the thought of her getting sick......so yah....I guess I'm paranoid? That will ease with time surely?

@CarrieLouWho: Good to know three weeks ish there might be hope of regulating and less leakage!!

LO has officially begun one sleep pattern! Always sleeps 3-5 hours in the am between 5am and 11am ish (sometimes earlier, sometimes later for the stretch) and it enables me to make the bed, clean myself up, do emails, get brekkie and get myself settled (and I nap too!!) and it's nice! Rest of day she does sleep, but doesn't settle as well in the bassinette for some reason and is a little needier and usually gets skin/skin on the couch. It may not last, but for now, I will take it!!

@Beebug: I hope so! DS is in love with her. He hasn't been jealous towards her yet. He loves touching her tiny toes and kissing her head.

    squash / 13764 posts

@Beebug: yikes! Sorry to hear that your ILs put you guys in that position :(@Mrs.B: hope LO figures out how to reverse that soon

SO we just had an LC come to the house this morning and lo and behold, LO is tongue tied! I am SO relieved that there is an actual reason for the pain I've had while breastfeeding. Apparently his is not an obvious one, which is why the LLL person probably missed it. So now we have to make an appt to have it snipped. Except of course pretty much everything is closed today because of the hurricane. I need to see if our pedi can do it at our appt on Thursday; if not, we need to go to an ENT. Either way, I am so happy to hopefully have found a way to resolve our issues. The LC said 60-80% of women experience immediate improvement after the tongue tie is snipped, so I hope that is our experience!

    @Tidybee: congrats,dear!!!!!!
@hilsy85: omg you're so...lucky? I mean having a tongue snipped is not supposed to be a good thing but at least you've found a solution to your problems!!! We're still trudging through...most (80%) of his feeding a are painless...but some still really hurt:/

Hi Mamas! Our little one arrived on October 22! Baby was 7lbs, 12oz, and 21.5 inches. ...and a BOY! It was the greatest surprise and we couldn't be more thrilled. We've named him Stanford James (and we'll call him Ford!)

@hilsy85: so glad you figured it out - hope that fixes everything! I am having a lactation consultant come over today! I have bad blisters on both nips! I got one the first day, and they are getting worse! I feel like J had a good latch though, it only hurts for a second when I feed him- but these blisters/cracks are freaking me out!

@TheFixIts: congrats. He is cutie! Love his name.

Day 2 all on my own. Baby boy just had a really fussy moment. Wouldn't stop crying and I couldn't figure out what's wrong. He would nurse then spit it up then act hungry again. he finally settled and is sleeping. I was crying right along with him.

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@mrskc: Hugs for the crying moment, if it counts for anything, I can't wait to be on my own!!!!!! DH is back at work and I cry, but MIL is here and though I appreciate the help I am SO anxious to have a full day to myself!!!!! Two more weeks, argh......I'm such an awful person.

@TheFixIts: Congrats Momma!!!!! Love the name

@TurtleDoves: Saw your other post, glad he (and hopefully you?) got some sleep.

I'm starting to dread the nights. She is so needy (aka wants to be on chest, not in bassinette) in the nights, and all I want is to snuggle with DH in bed. I know this won't last, so trying to break it up and not feel so down and out.

We had our first "outing" today for non-doctor reasons. I had her in the sling, went to a country craft type store, MIL got some shopping, and I got out. She was perfect, aside from some screaming when first in the carseat leaving home she was awesome!

She has a mullet and needs a haircut something desperate, lol.

I need to nap! Walked dog after outing, and now I'm spent. Losing weight or at least belly size like crazy, looking forward to working out again soon, but think I will pay for today......oye.

When do stitches dissolve down there? Bleeding at 10 days pp is pretty minimal.

    Cord fell off today! Woo!

  33. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

PS. Am I ok to be crying once a day at this point!? I don't think I have baby blues or ppd, but I definitely need to have a good cry everyday. Usually as I talk to DH when he gets home, I am SO needy toward him now, like need a hug, snuggles, something, and I am usually so not like that.

  34. mrskc

    bananas / 9357 posts

@Beebug: hang in there with the in laws. Have you tried to let her sleep in a bouncer or swing yet? Some nights our LO sleeps in the bouncer, some nights in the swing and sometimes in our bed. Pretty much wherever he'll sleep. I think it's pretty normal to be crying. Your hormones are adjusting. I think last week I cried at least once a day, but this week has been better.

  35. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

MIL was a hugely amazing person last night. I nursed every 3 hours, and she minded her in between, DH and I snuggled, I got my sobs out, it was amaaazing. I needed it, last night I realized why/how Mom's feel certain awful feelings, and it was so not cool. I hope tonight is better.

LO hasn't been anywhere but in arms or on chest or in bassinet as of yet, will have to try other options perhaps.

She is looking pretty cute in her Hallowe'en onesie! We had some fun taking pics today.

    squash / 13764 posts

@TheFixIts: congrats!! He looks so much like your husband, I think :)@Beebug: I have cried more in the last two weeks that in like the 10 years before!

I have been having a tough couple of days...after finding out that L is tongue tied, I also developed mastitis yesterday my doc doesn't want to do antibiotics yet, so I'm pumping every two hours, which means no sleep. It especially sucks because L is a awesome night sleeper and goes like 5 hours at a time, but I don't get to reap the rewards. On top of that, hurricane sandy has wreaked havoc on NYC and transportation is all messed up, as is traffic. We have an appointment with an ENT for tomorrow to get L's tongue tie taken care of, but I'm also really nervous about getting the procedure done, and nervous that it won't actually help anything. Basically, I feel like a big old mess, and have been in so much pain/discomfort from breast feeding/pumping that I feel like I barely am enjoying being a mama. On top of that Dh went back to work today, so that was hard. Sorry for the big vent! Hope you all are doing better than I am

@Hilsy85- sorry its been rough. DH went back last week for me and its been hard, but has been getting better. Will be hoping your mastitis clears up fast & DS's appointment will go
    @beebug- thinking about you too!

Can y'all share your night routine? DD was doing ok at night, but since Friday she won't go down until midnight or later. She bf's about every hour starting around 5 or 6 pm until 12 or 1 am. She won't go to sleep until I take her downstairs and let her fall asleep on my chest. If I take her upstairs to the bassinet, sometimes she will go, other times she won't.
Once she does go down, she will sleep for 3-5 hours. She doesn't like the swing, or the paci. She also seems to hate the swaddle- she fights it the whole time.
    Any ideas? Advice?

It can't be a milk allergy if she sleeps fine/ acts fine during the day but get fussy/ cries a lot at night... Right?

  40. CupQuakeWalk

    coconut / 8475 posts

@CarrieLouWho: I have this problem. I cut out milk for the last 36h and my babe is asleep and has been since 7pm (waking only to feed). My mom said (my brother had milk intolerance) that he'd be fine all day & get super fussy at night....that was her experience and has been mine too. My son is an angel during the day and super fussy at bedtime and gassy too. Try taking out all dairy for 3-4days and see how it goes...worth a try, right?
I posted a thread on this a few days ago and got lots of info
