Thanks @Turtledoves... After reading your thread it ses like we have pretty similar situations. I will begin no dairy now and see how it goes. I didn't think it would be a issue since she's fine during the day.
This sleep thing is the pits. I'm good with shorter increments of sleep, and getting up a few times to feed... But not being able to sleep in my bed with DH is killing me

@CarrieLouWho: omg I know...we're on the couch because I feel so bad for DH who has work in the AM:( but tonight has been awesome! Don't know if it was the full dosage of CalmColic or the no dairy thing but man....I woke him up to feed just now after a 5.5h stretch! & because he had gone 5+ hours, he was good and hungry and didn't mess around and just ate! So were done and burping now!

@TurtleDoves: I'm glad to hear that cutting out dairy helped you! We've had a very fussy and rough last few days and I'm cutting out dairy starting today at the recommendation of E's pediatrician since he's so bloated and gassy. I'm hoping it helps us too!
persimmon / 1408 posts
@Turtledoves, @RunningElley - this may sound dumb... But what exactly are you cutting out? I know milk & cheeses - but what about chocolate? Do eggs count as Dairy? I'm claiming sleep deprived ignorance.
Also, do you think nuts would cause an issue? I've kind of been living off trail mix as my main snack.
clementine / 961 posts
@CarrieLouWho: I had to cut dairy a week ago at the recommendation of Alia's pedi. I do not eat anything that contains cow protiens. Eggs do not count as dairy but anything with any type of dairy in it counts.
Here is my list of no no's. I'm having to read all food packages because alot of things contain some form of dairy.
Butter
Milk
Any type of cheese
Sour Cream
Any creamy sauce (ranch, honey mustard, etc.)
Any creamy dips
Yogurt
Ice Cream
Any bread products containing butter
I am also a vegetarian so going dairy free has forced me into a vegan life style.
persimmon / 1408 posts
Oh @Mrs.B - that's so much... Especially if you're already vegetarian! Has it been hard for you?
coconut / 8475 posts
@Running Elley: October mamas are all goin dairy free, y'all!
@carrielou: mrs.b's list pretty much sums it up! I haven't had chocolate but I know I'll cave on that one...also I cut out soy because people don't realize that dairy intolerance goes hand in hand with soy intolerance...
Of course: im only going to do this for like 8 weeks before slowly reintroducing dairy bit by bit...because intolerances often go away after baby's digestive system matures...or at least I hope that's the case with us!
coconut / 8681 posts
@CarrieLouWho: Mrs B's list does basically cover it! I've been dairy free before and I use almond milk instead in any kind of baking, etc. I'm also not using any soy as a substitute and my pediatrician said no egg whites as well.

@hilsy85: aww I'm sorry you're dealing with so much. I hope your mastis goes away quickly. I really hope BFing gets easier for you. You sure are a trooper for sticking with it.

Wow I can't believe how many of you are going dairy free. I hope it helps!
Baby A must be going through a growth spurt. He ate like every half hour for 5 hours straight this afternoon. He finally took a 2.5 hour nap just now. What an exhausting day. I also finally figured out the side lying nursing position. So much easier for middle of the night feelings!

Well, D didn't cluster feed yesterday evening and I thought we might get to sleep last night. No such luck :(. She wouldn't go down and was still up at midnight so DH took first shift - that lasted an hour and he came to get me to feed her. So I give up... We will just sleep on the couch from now on. She will at least eventually sleep here - we got 4 hours of "sleep". Sigh... I miss my bed and sleeping in the same place as my hubby.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@CarrieLouWho: sounds like our set up - we are going to try sleeping in the same room this weekend...
My husband takes the baby after our 9/10 feeding and I go up to bed for about 2 hours till he wakes, then I head to the living room with J for the evening. It's not ideal, but it's very temporary! I like being in the living room to sleep on the couch and we have a good chair for BFing, and access to snacks and water is key! I am so hungry around 2/3am!
clementine / 961 posts
@CarrieLouWho: I'm in the same boat. No sleep and on the couch
Alia cluster fed for 7 hours yesterday!

I think the only thing keeping me sane is y'all and knowing I'm not the only one. I'm trying to just accept that it's going to suck for a while and hopefully it'll get better.

Hell on earth over here ladies.
Reading when I can and glad to know I'm not the only one, scheduled, sleepy, happy baby is gone, she won't settle with me, it's awful.
MIL is leaving I think/hope. She has isolated herself in one of our rooms and is being dramatic, so between that tension/awkwardness, the baby, I'm SO spent. Poor DH, he doesn't understand her, he mentioned last night she might be homesick, whooping up little things, and creating more of a mess.
Oye.
I'm struggling. I want me settled, quiet baby back, this is so tough.

PS I am also on the couch all night now......couch surfer Mom's unite!
......I can't even be funny right now.....

@mrskc: thanks. I keep telling myself it can't get worse, so it has to get better. I am now on antibiotics for the mastitis, and the flu like symptoms have decreased, thank goodness. I felt SO crappy the last few days though--so if any of you think that you might have mastitis, get antibiotics as soon as possible!!
L had his frenulectomy yesterday afternoon. I couldn't watch and got so upset because he was bleeding a bit. But he seemed to calm down quickly and on the upside, breastfeeding is definitely more comfortable on one side (the side without mastitis). I'm hoping once it clears up, we'll be on our way to pain free feedings.
To those of you who are cutting dairy out, kudos to you! I was nervous that LO would have a dairy intolerance--I eat so much dairy that cutting it out would have meant completely revamping my diet. So far, he seems to be fine though. @CarrieLouWho: I hope you get some more sleep soon! maybe she's going through a growth spurt?@hellobeeboston: I also definitely snack when I wake up for the 3am feedings!
How long are your LOs awake for at a time? L has like two periods during the day when he can be awake for up to 2 hours--not fussy, just looking around. I never know if it's ok for him to be awake or if I should try to put him to sleep? He doesn't seem tired (isn't yawning, rubbing eyes, getting fussy, etc).
squash / 13764 posts
@Beebug: ugh so sorry your MIL is causing more trouble than helping you out! I hope she goes home soon and you and your Dh get your home back.

I am SO thankful for this thread...I honestly thought I was the only couch sleeper with a wide-awake baby.
Baby E has been doing awesomely these last 3 nights! I cut out all dairy and soy, give him a dose of ColicCalm right after his last feed and then I swaddle him and he is out! But I am not convinced we're out of the woods yet (this may all be a fluke) so last night I stayed on the couch. DH doesn't have work tomorrow morning so we will be back in bed together tonight...and hopefully LO won't decide to ruin that
Hilsy: I hope he heals up super quickly so you guys can get on to breastfeeding smoothly.
We're actually doing a ton better....we have our feedings where i'll need the nipple shield but we're OK most feedings.
squash / 13764 posts
@TurtleDoves: thanks! glad to hear feeding is better for you--what do you think helped? Or do you think your nipples/breasts just needed to get used to it? Glad to hear LO is doing better with the dairy free diet!
Also, do you guys/did you guys get sore/tingly nipples after feeding? I've been getting that and I don't know if it's normal or if it's related to my multitude of issues
bananas / 9357 posts
@hilsy85: I get tingling nipples too. Sometimes after a feeding it still feels like he's latched on and sucking. It feels weird. Sometimes when he's feeding on one side, the other side feels tingly and it leaks. I think it's normal.
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: ok good to hear! It feels really weird and kind of hurts but also is just kind of strange. I guess it's all part of this adjustment period.
The ONLY benefit of mastitis/aka having zero appetite for three days--I was able to pull up and button my pre pregnancy jeans, woo hoo. I think I'd rather be in my fat jeans and feeling better!
bananas / 9357 posts
@hilsy85: hope you feel better soon! I don't think I'll fit into my pre-preg jeans for a long time if ever at all. I need to buy some fat jeans so I can stop wearing my maternity pants.
coconut / 8475 posts
@hilsy85: Wht helped? I think my nipples have turned into concrete. I seriously don't know if we're latching correctly or if my nipples just gave up and are not toughening up! Either way
coconut / 8475 posts
Any of you ladies going to join the "POSTPARTUM GET IN SHAPE THREAD" thread? I did today but it seems like it doesn't have much going on so I thought maybe we could wake it up a little bit more since we should be starting to heal up and what not around this time....please join! It's lonely there:)

MIL flies out tomorrow. She is being SO rude to DH. To me is one thing (fine....) but he does not deserve that.
We're both ready for her to be gone, and move on.
@hilsy85: tingly nipples after feeding for sure.....only recently, not a fan!!!!
@TurtleDoves: I haven't looked at that thread yet, I'm not ready, so don't even want to go there and put pressure on myself. I am finding the weight is still near melting off (!!) bra doing up on a closer hook, that was pretty cool!
I have put pre-preg jeans on....and they fit.....but if done all the way up I have a dirty flabby muffin top, if only partway with bellaband, it's not so bad!!!
I'm tired... Man oh man.
I am just going to throw it out there, but LO is a fusspot for me, won't settle for me, might be my tension, not sure.....anyways, I put her in the sling I have (seven slings dealio) and just wore her, she was content as heck, and then zonked out, I popped her out, swaddled her and put her down.......saved my ass, so just FYI if something like that might help anyone!
It's the weekend......I can wake DH in the night and maybe get to sleep in bed, woooo!!!!
Got our BOB today!!!!!!!
Took for short walk, but with the adapter and baby seat, I can't figure out how to "seal" it up well and still see her.......will have to play around more, I will get it!
I have not cut dairy.....and feel in the minority! I don't think her not settling is that at all, as she will easily settle sometimes, and other times it's that awful scream cry that makes me think awful thoughts.......ugh. Just keep telling myself this stage won't last, next week, next month it'll be different, next year, etc.

Soooo now I think my tingly /painful nips are actually a sign of thrush. It's just one thing after another...
honeydew / 7235 posts
@hilsy85: oh no!! I was just going to write to say I was so glad things seemed to be going better! It sounds like it is though, hopefully it's not thrush.... Mine get tingly as well. And sometimes I feel some pains when the milk is coming in - so not sure.
I also haven't cut dairy. LO is doing pretty good - he does get a little gassy. He also gets the hiccups like every time he eats - they keep him awake. He also sometimes is choking on too much milk - I wrote another post about it. It freaks me out! He gobbles the milk down sometimes, and I need to realize he's doing it and slow him down, maybe take him off and express a little out?
We are going to try to sleep in our room tonight and not in the living room --- we will see how it goes! I'm doubtful, but worth a try!
bananas / 9357 posts
@hilsy85: noooo! I hope not. Gosh you cannot catch a break. I'm so sorry you're dealing with so much.
coconut / 8475 posts
@Beebug: I think I'm going to get a 7sling too...our carrier is too oversized for LO still.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
LO has a blister, middle of upper lip.
Doesn't seem to be causing her pain, any ideas what it could be from?
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@hilsy85: sorry to hear one thing after another, I feel bad/dumb not knowing what thrush is in relation to bf'ing...going to look it up!
squash / 13764 posts
@Beebug: could be a sucking blister? They're harmless. @mrskc: @hellobeeboston: Tell me about it! I'm going to try some probiotics and see if that helps.
bananas / 9357 posts
@Beebug: my LO one has one too. They're harmless.
How much do your babies spit up? He seems to spit up a lot just not sure if its normal.
AJ is starting to get little rolls on his arms and legs. Makes this mama feel proud.
Woke up with a cold sore on my lip this morning.
guess no more kissing my little guy for a week or two.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@mrskc: Sorry to hear about coldsore, good to know about her blister! Will try not to worry about it!
Missy no sleep here this morning is way off schedule, waiting for her to wake, may nap in meantime!

Hi ladies,
A good day here, holy heck I needed this. DH is busy today (he coaches university hockey on top of his FT teaching job) and even though I went to last night's game I was feeling a little sour about him being gone for 8 hours today for a 2 hour game (away game) and even though I do a lot for the team (I work at the same university in admissions, lol...) I really wanted a day home with DH before the work week, so he left, I cried.....was feeling pretty sorry for myself! *noted* next baby don't have it at the beginning of the hockey season
Chels napped, I napped, we just went for a huge power walk in the BOB for the first time, she slept the whole time, it was awesome....dog walked great beside it! She just nursed, have some friends stopping by shortly, and then hopefully she'll nap and I can get dinner ready.......I can dream! Oye, I needed to feel this good, makes me feel refreshed.
I took a two week post-partum pic......here it is..... I am pretty happy with how I am looking, but my linea nigra (sp, lol) is getting darker now.....wtf!
squash / 13764 posts
@Beebug: You look great!!! Glad you had a good day. I have heard that can happen with the linea negra...apparently if you exfoliate it/really scrub at it in the shower, it helps lighten it up. @mrskc: LO doesn't really spit up...maybe 3 times since he's been born? And all those times were after bottles. I think spitting up IS really normal though, so definitely nothing to worry about.
