@daniellemybelle: Happy New Year! I went to bed at 11:30 since I was EXHAUSTED and H usually gets up at 1:30 to eat. Lo and behold, she slept until 4:00 since she went to bed at 10:30.
We went bowling with friends. It was fun with the exception of two things: 1) my BFF's fiancé was in a bad mood so his dark cloud brought all of us down, and 2) our ball return kept messing up and we seriously waited a half hour for it to get fixed. They switched lanes, but we weren't able to finish our third game, even when they said it would be free. We're going to a new bowling alley next year.

@daniellemybelle: Happy new year! My parents babysat so DH and I went out to eat. It was nice to be able to eat with two hands lol. When we got home DD fell asleep around 9pm and I couldn't stay up past 10pm. Then we were all up again at 5:30am because DD was hungry. Did you do anything fun?

Happy new year!!
How do you all put your LOs to sleep at night? DD nurses to sleep. I'm fine with her doing so but lately she wants to nurse forever half asleep before I can put her down. Do any of you experience this as well?

I changed my username!
@Zbug: We have a routine: pjs, nurse, story, song, rock, sleep with paci. If that doesn't work or we are traveling (we co-sleep when traveling), I nurse to sleep.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Zbug: I pump, not BF. But our nightly routine is bath (every other night), pjs, Halo sleep sack, dim the lights, warm bottle. Then either we put her down and she falls asleep on her own or if that doesn't work I put her in the carrier and stroll around the house with the lights dimmed or she swings.
@avivoca: Just read about your new username and H's name in the "handle" thread. That's so neat!! I love that!

Happy 2014 everyone!
I was up past midnight, Effie went down at 8:30 but we didn't realize she was down for the night so she was in her swing. No bedtime routine necessary I guess! She woke up at 12:45 and I did the bedtime routine with her then. It's certain lights on/off, swaddle, feeding, rocking, and then bed. I need to start incorporating reading then. I also want to do a bath every other night but I am nervous to do it alone (DH works evenings). Anyone bathe baby alone?
Bitty was then up at 4:15 and 6:45. She slept in til 9:45 though! Not bad!
Today bitty also got her last breastmilk. My supply had dropped since Thanksgiving and was at 20ML at DAY. Not even an OUNCE a day. So, we're glad to be done pumping. More together time!

@kjpugs: Happy New Year! More together time is awesome!
I go back to work tomorrow . On one hand, I am ready in that I like being able to buy things and not worry about how the bills will get paid. On the other hand, I know I'm going back to a colossal mess and I'm sad that someone else is going to spend the majority of the day with my girl. I'm salaried, so I expected to get paid today, but no dice and that stung a bit.

@kjpugs: I bathe LO every night by myself. I was going to do every other day like most of y'all, but so many people touch her and she sleeps better when I give her one.
@avivoca: love the name change! Hang in there! Saying extra prayers all goes well.
@Zbug: welcome! We do nurse, bath, lotion, swaddle in her woombie, and then nurse again if she isn't fussy or straight to PACi with rocking. She falls asleep and then I hold her for another 20 minutes to make sure she is out.
We had a low key night. We were supposed to go down to our other place on Tuesday, but DH and I agreed that we had been traveling a lot and LO and I just needed to stay in one place. I'm hoping to get some stuff done so when he comes home tmrw night, we just get to hang out on my last weekend before going back to work.

Thanks, ladies. We do bedtime routine but she still ends up nursing to sleep. I really don't mind it except that she's now wanting to nurse for so long!

@kjpugs: I start getting everything ready. I turn the heater on in the bathroom and close the door so it gets warm. I have her outfit on our bed. I lay her on her towel on the floor and run the water. Then when her tub is filled up, we just go. Then I get her washed and dried off. We do lotion and get dressed. The past few times I've put her in her pnp and then dumped the water and wrung out her flower bath thing. Then we get in our woombie and either nurse again or straight to PACi. I was really nervous when we started doing it, but now it's second nature.

@Zbug: my LO is a quick nurser. We used to nurse to sleep, but she would wake up during transfer, so that's why we nurse before now.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: I bathe H alone. I start by turning on the shower to get her sponge wet and warm the bathroom, then I undress her and bring her into the bathroom. I turn the sprayer into its lowest position, move the sponge to the back of the tub, and then I wash her.

@Jennimac: yeah I think it's really just a comfort nursing thing for her. She's not really eating much but just wants to hang out there till she falls asleep. She nurses for like fifteen minutes and goes back to sleep in the MOTN. I guess I will just keep trying to get her to take a paci!

I've got a ton of catching up to do but I'm on my phone so it's hard. Here is how we are starting 2014:
In the hospital! M started wheezy and his breathing was really labored so we brought him to the ER. They are keeping him over night and are doing breathing treatments. He's fighting sleep and I'm beyond tired.

@ladybee: Oh my gosh you poor thing! I hope they figure out what's going on and can get him on the path to wellness. I also hope that he goes to sleep soon so you can get some rest.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@ladybee: oh no!!!! I hope he gets to feeling better very soon!!!!
@Zbug: If she didn't take a PACi, I don't know what I would do. She loves to comfort nurse.
persimmon / 1355 posts
@kjpugs: I have recently started doing baths alone, and it's way easier than I thought it would be. I put a towel on her bouncy seat and put it next to the tub. I make sure I have shampoo and everything ready before and set out a diaper and clothes. We use a baby tub where she sort of reclines that I put in our tub. I first wash her and then let her splash around for awhile. When she's done, I just have to move her a short distance to the seat where I wrap her in her towel. I was worried the first time, but it actually isn't bad!

@Zbug: That's really good to know. Thanks EVERYONE for your advice. I think next time B and I give her a bath I'll ask him to let me try to do it myself so I can get comfortable. It helps get her sleepy so I would love to work it into the routine.

@ladybee: so sorry!! Hope he feels better very soon. Hang in there, mama!

@ladybee: oh my goodness! poor M and poor YOU! What do they think is going on?

@Zbug: Our bedtime routine is bath (most nights, some nights we skip, but I am trying to do every other with soap and just let her splash the other nights because it relaxes her), lotion, PJs, sleepsack with arms out, nurse while Daddy reads, bottle (we supplement), then arms into swaddle & rock with white noise. On occasion (like right now) she will want to comfort nurse aFter her "dinner" & I let her but she never falls completely asleep.
Do you all check/change diaper before bed? I usually do but I hate changing her & getting her more awake! But I feel bad putting her down in a wet diaper.
@avivoca: I don't like change!!! But I like the reasoning behind your name. I will be thinking of you at work tomorrow! What's your childcare situation?
@kjpugs: I don't like to bathe LO by myself either mostly because of the getting her out part. Those suckers are slippery! I have a bath towel that you can wear like an apron and I use that when I have to bathe her alone. My aunt made it for me but they might have some on Etsy?
@ladybee: Oh no!!! I can only imagine how you feel right now. Keep us updated!

Forgot to tell that y'all that I had to bf LO on Saturday at a museum and a mom gave me a thumbs up and way to go! Made me proud!

@daniellemybelle: I don't like change either! But this new name felt perfect. H is going to daycare for a half day tomorrow and Friday, and she's staying with Daddy in the afternoons. I had a good cry this morning about it, and I'm sure I'll be a mess tomorrow, but I know she'll be okay. We've agreed to revisit the me working situation if I feel that isn't working, but with two incomes we'll be able to do a lot more and not have to worry.
@Jennimac: AWESOME! I haven't had to feed in public in a long time. Lately I've been pumping and bringing a bottle.
Why is it that strollers get the stink eye in restaurants? We went to Panera today and these two women gave me the stink eye when I rolled up with my stroller full of sleeping baby. It's annoying.
persimmon / 1355 posts
@daniellemybelle: We do diaper change right before I nurse her to sleep. I'm sure it's often wet by the time she falls asleep, but I don't change her again unless I suspect poop.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@avivoca: ugh!!! I hate the stroller stink eye! We got that when we went shopping over the holidays. I just gave it right back.

@Jennimac: @daniellemybelle: @kjpugs: @Zbug: thanks for your kind thoughts ladies. Right now the thought is that he has a form of viral upper respiratory infection that is making it difficult for him to breath. I took him in Monday to a pedi in our office and was told its just a cold and to walt it out. Tuesday night he started wheezing and yesterday morning you could see retractions at his rib cage when breathing. We decided to go to the ER. He had two breathing treatments and is being suctioned every 2 hours. Last night he started to spike a fever so I'm not sure if he will be going home today. They ruled out RSV and pertussis so thank God for that.

@ladybee: I hope that they figure out what's going on. How scary! Do you know if he'll be able to come home?

@ladybee: keep us updated, poor baby, I hope he's home soon and most importantly, back to HEALTH soon!

This post makes me cringe to write and will probably elicit death threats, but... how much should babies be sleeping around 11 weeks? I'm afraid E is sleeping too much
I just started tracking it now that I'm done pumping and tracking that, and the first full 24 hours were 13 1/2 hours sleeping. Is that healthy/normal? CAN they sleep too much?
And in case anyone's jealous of her at night (she's down from about 8pm -9am now!) she has an average of 3 wakeups at night. And I do all the night wakeups. Sooooo there's that. Her longest stretch lately was 5 hours.

@kjpugs: I don't track but that sounds like it's probably within the normal range...

As for us, we are staying another night. He's still retracting at the ribs when breathing and is wheezy. They ruled out RSV with a rapid test but the send away results aren't back yet. The nurse says he sounds like RSV but who knows. Either way we have to wait it out.

@ladybee: that document is amazing. THANK YOU! For some reason I thought it should be 12 or less by now. BOY was I wrong! No idea why I thought that. Glad to know she's not oversleeping. I feel like I've been keeping her awake a bit because I was worried so hopefully going forward it will be even better.
@Zbug: thanks
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@kjpugs: LOL at the death threats! You won't get any from me. DD has been STTN with zero wakeups since around 5 weeks... I know I'm insanely lucky and it's not a result of anything I did but I am afraid people will hate me if I talk about it lol. On the other hand she only takes a few naps every 3-4 hours during the day, each nap lasting 20 minutes MAX (like clockwork) so I never get any type of break during the day. Oh well, what can ya do, babies will be babies!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ladybee: Ugh, I hate this for you! I hope the results come back quickly and that he is back to healthy ASAP. (((hugs)))
@kjpugs: No death threats here. H has been going down at 8:30 and sleeping until 8:30 with two wake-ups, but last night she didn't get up until 3:30 (woohoo!).
H did great at daycare today! She pooped her pants and had a complete outfit change. The daycare lady put her diaper on backward (we are using gDiapers and they fasten in the back), so I'll have to let her know tomorrow. She napped for a hour there and was all smiles when Daddy picked her up.
As far as my first day of work, I'm slowly getting back in the groove. My boss did not bother to find me a place to pump that isn't a bathroom, so I did my first pump of the day in a cold bathroom with the fan running. However, my coworker had cleaned out a storage closet for me to use, and my second pump session was much better! The closet is warm, quiet, has light, and even a stool for me to sit on. I'm now brainstorming things to get her to show my appreciation. She pumped here for a year and knows how hard it is to get a place to pump (technically they can claim hardship since we are so small at 12 employees).

@avivoca: that is SO AWESOME about your coworker helping. I just hate your boss - so it's nice to hear about a supportive coworker. I think a gift card to a restaurnat you guys like (I always have one starbucks or dunkin addicted coworker, so something like that!) would be appreciated. Or even just baking her cookies she likes or something like that. Even colored pens or fun post it's if she's into that stuff. Something small to show she's appreciated!
And I'm always anxious to mention sleep... I know that all of us HERE are supportive/kind but I just feel like it's SUCH a touchy subject. Some of the comments I've gotten when I've tweeted/IG'd about a long stretch have been, from some people, almost hateful! I feel guilty. It's just one of those super touchy things though.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@ladybee: I'm hoping they get it figured out soon!
@kjpugs: people can be so weird about stuff. I'm glad E is sleeping well. LO does pretty well. She has been going down around 9:30 and sleeping until 3 or 4. The past two days she has gotten up around 6. Not that cool, but okay. Right now she is conked out on me. Taking a quick cat nap and then DH should be home. Then we will put her down for real.
