We are home and little man seems to be feeling much better. Test results haven't come back yet but they are very confident that its not RSV or Pertussis. They called it bronchlitis (baby version of bronchitis I believe). He seems to be feeling much better and he's been in such a good mood this whole time. Gotta love him! This is him being a huge ham in the tub last night.

@ladybee: I'm so glad to hear that you are home and that M is doing well!!! I've been thinking about you guys.

@avivoca: Thanks, it was scary since his breathing is so difficult. I feel like he's been nothing but sick his whole life (difficult labor with infections, milk allergy, cold 1, cold 2) and I felt so stupid calling the doctors office again but I'm so glad I listened to my gut! Plus I felt validated when we saw the bitchy nurse who thinks I'm crazy yesterday.

Holy hell guys. H is in the process of moving her bedtime back again, because I started her routine at the normal time and she was not having it. Full on meltdown until I put the paci in her mouth. She rejected my boob and went right to sleep. So I figured she would get up around 1 and eat since she hadn't eaten since 6 or so. NOPE. I woke up at 4:00 with porn star boobs and she was still asleep, so I did a dream feed to get some relief. Then at 7:30 my right boob was super full and painful. Ack. Tonight I will pump if she does it again.

@ladybee: The mommy gut is usually right! I'm sorry you had a bitch nurse. Nurses really need to be compassionate.

@Ladybee: So glad the LO is feeling better and you are all home... Having a sick child is so stressful and scary. Hope everyone keeps getting better.

I'm finally starting to feel better but still coughing a bit. Doc ruled out pneumonia and bronchitis and said I just had a sinus infection and head cold. Fun fun... Thankfully the baby seems just fine. He's even sleeping better at night than he ever has. I usually get a 5-6 hour stretch out of him and then another 3 hours before he's up for the day. Seriously hope this continues when we get back to California.
Speaking of getting back, United has already cancelled my Tuesday flight. I have to call to reschedule (won't let me do it online), but because of high call volumes they hang up every time I try. Looking at the flight schedules, they aren't resuming normal flights until Friday. So hopefully, I can leave Friday, but I'm betting on more like Sunday or Monday. I still have to get a hold of an actual representative. This is going to be such a fun day...

@ladybee: Normally we are too, once the 1:00 feed happens. It's very rare that she sleeps that long.
@TFrances: I'm glad you are feeling better and that A isn't sick! It sucks about your flight, I hope you can talk to someone soon.

@kjpugs: Sorry you had a rough night. I agree with the other ladies about being stealthy - I don't talk to S or make eye contact. I don't change her either (she never poops at night).
@TFrances: Ugh, sorry about your travel situation! My ILs just left & thankfully they were able to make it out. 5 days was enough
@ladybee: I'm so glad M is better!!!
@avivoca: Looks like she's getting into a good nighttime routine! S was sleeping 10-5 for a while but now she's back to a 2:30 wakeup I am going to try a dream feed tonight to see if that can help her stretch.

@Redmini1: Forgot to copy you on my reply to kjpugs about nighttime! Also, try keeping LO up more during the day? We also do naps with the lights on to make nighttime sleep different.

@daniellemybelle: I'm glad your ILs got out in time. My office is closed so I'm staying home with H and hunkering down. I hung up insulated curtains in her room to keep it as warm as possible, hung a flannel sheet over the living room windows (it's a double window and I don't have curtains yet for it) and am getting all our laundry done tonight in case we lose power.

So all the responses re: E's sleep are on the other page which makes tagging replies impossible so I'll just generally respond to you all
So... you guys SERIOUSLY don't change diapers overnight? E goes down around 8 or 9, and then sleeps til somewhere between 7 and 10. So about 12 hours give or take. You can not change a diaper for that long?!?! And how do you know if they have a poopy diaper without attempting a change? E is guilty of farts that smell just like poops, and that linger so sometimes we'll think she blew up a diaper and sniff and still think that, and she didn't. Other times she totally suprises us. I don't know how I'd know without checking, and then I might as well change her (since she's in the swaddle sleep sack now.)
I do keep it as dark as possible, I need to get some nightlights though. I use things like closet lights with the door ajar, or the kitchen light on when we're in the living room. I can't do anything in our room where she sleeps though, I have to move her out to the living area. I told DH I thought maybe it was time to move her to her room and he really doesn't want to. I get it- it's on the COMPLETE OPPOSITE SIDE of the house. I hesitate majorly too. But I think the complete quiet/dark would be really helpful. Although I also worry about her waking me up over the monitor. When she wakes up at night it's almost never crying- it's grunting type noises and her moving around furiously, slamming her legs and whining.
I've also tried ignoring her and giving her a paci, but she continues to keep it up without fail 95% of the time.
Hoping tonight goes better. Fingers crossed.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: Nope. We don't change overnight. Sometimes she poops and we don't hear it (it's very rare that she poops overnight) but most of the time we hear it over the monitor and it's the grossest sound ever. H doesn't wake me up with her sleeping noises now that she's in her room (and she is a restless sleeper) and we all sleep better. Her waking/whining noises wake me up when she needs me.
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@kjpugs: we change at night. Actually at every feed. He wakes us up from his room (right next door) by crying. I change his diaper in the dark ASAP and then feed in the dark. He's ok with it because feeding him is like giving him a drug. We have a night light in his room and the living room to help me navigate. I'm greatly looking forward to the day he sleeps 5-6 hours. He's literally been sick 3 out of the last 4 weeks so I have no idea what kind of sleeper he is now.
persimmon / 1355 posts
@kjpugs: we change overnight. She usually has two night wake ups and I will change at the first unless it's been less than three or four hours or so (first stretch is usually fivr hours). The second stretch is usually shorter, so I often don't change / especially because she normally is up for the day in a couple more hours. For example, sleeps 8-1 change diaper, sleeps 1:30-5 don't change, sleeps 5:15-7 change diaper.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: Nope! Her diaper is super full in the morning but it's never leaked & it has never given her diaper rash. After using disposable diapers for hot compresses on my boobs this week, I can tell you they are insanely absorbent! Does E often poop at night? I don't think S has ever pooped at night so I don't worry about it.
I really think you should try moving her to her room if you feel ready. S has been sleeping alone in her room (I slept in there with her at first) since 3 weeks & I'm a huge fan. Anytime we've had to share a room with her, traveling or what have you, her sleep is crappy because she can sense me there.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@kjpugs: I hope it was a better night. LO usually doesn't pump at night. You can tell the difference between her poops and farts because her poop always sounds squishy and it smells immediately. She hasn't pooped in two days and I was starting to worry and then she had a massive blow out. It almost went up to the back of her hair.
I'm currently pumping and it's 12:08 am and I have to go back to work tomorrow. I'm excited and sad. Here's hoping its a good day, people don't ask how I'm doing too much, I can pump enough, and I don't cry my make-up off. LO ate 3 different bottles today and each one was about 4.5-5 oz. if I send t3 bottles, that's 15 oz a day! Sigh.

@Daniellemybelle: that's good advice, trying to her up more in this evening... So far she went down with minimal fuss. Crossing fingers for some longer sleep stretches.
I change at J's wake up... I nurse one side, change her and then nurse the other side. Then re swaddle and start walking the hallway until she's out which depending on mood can be quick or seem to take forever.

Why won't my kid sleep? He feels so much better yet he's awake 4 times a night now instead of 2. Must get magic sleep suit.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@ladybee: I'm sorry I'm sure it will take some time for him to re-adjust from being sick. Have you tried a dream feed? I just did one last night & S stretched back out!
I kept waking up to check the monitor so I didn't get good rest, but LO slept 10-5:45! I gave her 2.5 oz of formula (I was afraid she'd spit up if I did a full bottle) at 11:30, crouched next to her RnP. She stayed asleep the whole time. Totally doing this every night from now on!

@singingbee: It's going to be hard, but I know you will be okay today. When people asked me about H at first, I said, "Let's not talk about that right now," and I think they understood. It helps that my husband texts me a pic of her at daycare in the middle of the day. (((hugs)))
@ladybee: Perhaps he's hit the sleep regression a bit early? We're back to our two wake-ups a night, but I fear it will get much worse.
You guys, it's 2* here with a real-feel of -19*. I want to pack up and move to South Florida. This is the coldest weather the area has seen in over ten years. Thank goodness my office closed, because I do not want to be out in this.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@kjpugs: I change everytime he wakes up! We're moving him to the nursery, so to "practice" he sleeps in the living room in a rNp, (it's just two steps from my bedroom door) and then we'll move him into the nursery. But anyway, he wakes up, I go grab a bottle from the fridge, put it in the warmer, grab him and go change his diaper, he never poops either but I always change. We have a dimmer in his room so it's as close to dark as I can get and still see without waking him. Then I feed him on the couch in the dark, but I watch Vine on my phone, the light/noise doesn't bother him but it keeps me awake so I don't fall asleep on him. Then a burp and back into bed.
Last night. Ohh, last night was the worst. He had a stage 5 -sound the alarms MELT.DOWN before bed and when he finally went to sleep he woke up at 1 and didn't even start to doze off until after 3. Two whole hours, oh..my..god. He hasn't done that since he was a NB. I feel physically sick today I am so tired. He's been sleeping really well since we started acid reflux meds, so I took Benadryl so that I could get some sleep too. So fighting against sleeping medicine is not fun. Ahg.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I decided to wait until Fri/Sat night to try not changing her- since then Sat/Sun I can sleep in/nap as needed if it goes horribly wrong. (That's when I try all my changes!) Of course when E woke up I went to change her and found... a dry diaper. HA! (This happens occasionally at the first night feeding and then she SATURATES the next one, which is what happened here.) I had to laugh!
Last night did go better... went down before 8:30, then up at 1:45. Quick "change" (except not) and then fed her in our room next to her PNP so transfer was easier. It was great. Very quick, and she fell right to sleep. Same thing at 6ish. I also thought ahead and prepped the bottles and had them in the fridge beforehand (DUH! Why didn't I think of that before?) so that was helpful. She was up for the day at 8:30. Not an amazing night but better than last!
@avivoca: @daniellemybelle: tell me about this "dream feed" concept!!!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: For us anyway, a dream feed is me feeding her when she is just barely awake. I went in, picked her up (she was still sleeping), stuck my boob in her mouth and she started eating. Then I laid her down and we went back to bed. Easy peasy. Although, that's the only time I did it and most of the time when I feed her in the middle of the night, she isn't fully awake either and goes back to sleep really quickly.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@avivoca: thanks! I'm on my frost pumping break. I didn't cry this morning, but it was probably because I cried myself to sleep last night.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@singingbee: (((hugs))) I definitely had a good cry the day before I went back to work, but seeing how happy she was there and how smiley she was when Daddy picked her up made it a lot easier.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@kjpugs: Omg you've been making bottles during the night?! Every night after dinner & before adult time I pour out 3 bottles for a week day or 6 for a weekend day and DH & I shake 'em up and toss them in the fridge. They're good for 24 hours! The 3 are for the night feed, the 6am feed and the one as soon as I get home from work. If i'm super lazy I line up shot glasses with the right amount of water for the warmer next to it so I can just toss it in and start it up! If you want to get super duper efficient you can buy a jug with a tight lid on it (or an empty apple juice bottle, whatev.) and shake up the jug all at once instead of shaking up 6 bottles.
Our dream feed is to have LO in his swing for adult time to get him really asleep and then I heat up a bottle, don't change him, just feed as much as he'll take to top him off and then put him back down. I don't do it often but that's how it goes when I do!
persimmon / 1355 posts
@singingbee: just wanted to say I'm thinking of you this morning. Hugs and best of luck.
@avivoca: I've tried dream feeding, but DD wouldn't wake up. I literally stuck my boob in her mouth and nothing! I was afraid to mess with her and risk a real wake up - defeating the whole purpose of a dream feed. Any tips? Or is my LO just weird?
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@MrsTiz: I use the Dr Brown's pitcher and make a day's worth at once and then pour it as we need it (since sometimes she'll drink more and sometmies less.) So I was having to pour it into the bottle, but that requires light. I love the shot glass idea! TOTALLY doing that for night feedings!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Zbug: Well, the one time we did it it was 4 am and she hadn't eaten in nearly 8 hours (not fun). So she was starving.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@kjpugs: does that mix it up well? I put it into a regular pitcher and stirred it with a wooden spoon one time and it didn't work..at all. It just clumped up and laughed at me when I tried to stir it.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@MrsTiz: omg yes it's AMAZING. I got it because it's supposed to reduce the bubbles you get from shaking it (which can cause gas.) You put the water in, and then the formula scoops, and then you put the top on and it has a pump that blends it. VERY easy.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001I481LM/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I think you're maybe supposed to immediately (after bubbles settle) pour into bottles but since LO is unpredictible with what she'll take I just keep it in the fridge in the pitcher, and I haven't had any issues. I mix it up once a day, I err on the "less" side (she takes between 22-26 oz a day) and every once in a while will hand-mix one in the bottle if I under-estimated.

Hallelujah I have a flight back to California. Was supposed to leave tomorrow, have to now wait until Saturday. But I have a flight and it didn't cost me anything to change it. I'm so ready to get back home. But the grandparents are loving an extra week with Arthur. He's still doing so well with all the crazy schedules and weather here.

@kjpugs: Last night was our first time dream feeding. We put her down at about 10 - her last feeding was at 8:45 but around 10 is when she finally fell completely asleep & I put her in her RnP. Then at 11:30 I went in her room, didn't turn on any lights (just used the hallway light with the door cracked), knelt by her bed & stuck a bottle in her mouth. She just started sucking away in her sleep! It took her a while to drink 2.5 oz, but she never woke up, and then I crept out - no burp, never even picked her up. She slept til 5:45! Especially since S is a sleep fighter, this is a life saver because I don't have to rock her back to sleep from a wake-up, not to mention I get to do it on my terms! I hope it continues to work!
@singingbee: So many hugs, friend.
@Zbug: Maybe try a bottle of pumped milk, if you have introduced them?
@MrsTiz: @kjpugs: We LOVE the Dr Brown pitcher! We had been using ready to feed formula because of the bubbles in the powdered. This allowed us to go back to the powdered which is so much cheaper. It doesn't clump at all. We do a day's worth like KJ.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@daniellemybelle: do you leave your formula in the pitcher like us? I'm just curious And thanks for the info on the dream feed!!! Sounds like a life saver! Sounds also like what I'm transitioning towards... trying to keep her in sleep mode.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: Yep, never occurred to me you're not supposed to! I'm not sure what the difference is between being in individual bottles vs the pitcher?
LO is getting shots tomorrow. I am so nervous! We had to keep moving our appointment & the anticipation has made it even worse.
