    @daniellemybelle: I dunno if you aren't supposed to, it just says in the instructions "let sit one minute after mixing then pour into bottles." I didn't see anywhere that it said NOT to, and it works better for us So I was just curious!

    ETA- when she gets on a more predictable schedule (please? SOMETIME?) I would love to be able to say "ok she gets XX bottles XX size at these times" and then prep those bottles in the fridge.

    Hey y'all, just posted another thread about this, but how much Tylenol do you give your LOs before/after shots?

  3. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

    @daniellemybelle: afterwards they told me to give 2.5 because she was 12 lbs. well, that dose is 12-17 lbs so I gave her about 2 in the dropper.

  4. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

    @daniellemybelle: I will give it after and will err on the low side, so about 2 mL.

  5. Zbug

    persimmon / 1355 posts

    @daniellemybelle: I also do 2 ml after but only if she seems in pain. Once I gave it to her and once I did not.

    LO's schedule is completely off this week... He's sorta STTN, but daytime naps and wake times are all over the place. I can never tell if he'll be up for 3 hours or fall right back asleep after eating. He was waking completely around 8am, up for 3 hours or so, an hour nap, then up for another 2 hours, before a long 2 hour afternoon nap. Now, I have no idea! This is getting a bit frustrating. I can't plan our days very well. People keep stopping to see the baby and 70% of the time, he's asleep. I'm hoping this is just another side effect of the wonder week.

    persimmon / 1355 posts

    @TFrances: I sort of have the same problem but always.

    Do your LOs follow any sort of predictable daytime routine? DD is usually up 1.5-2 hours at a time, but there's no way of telling when this will happen since a nap could be 20 minutes or two hours. I've heard that three months is pretty early to expect a routine, but how does this work for you all?

  8. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

    @Zbug: We don't really have a routine. I just watch her like a hawk for sleep cues.

    hello again! I've tried my best to keep up with this group while on maternity leave but i feel like i failed miserably. I'm on my 2nd full day back at work and now that i have free hands again i figure i would jump back into the conversation. Its hard to believe that our babies are turning the 3 month corner. I feel like the last 3 months have been a blur.

    So yesterday Fi was at our house with my MIL which i think is going to work out nicely. I fed her she went back to sleep and got ready to leave and left before she woke up again. One of my frozen breastmilk bags leaked all over the fridge while it was defrosting - there was a tear in it. otherwise no major incidents

    Today, Fi is at daycare it was a little harder getting us both out of the house but that might have been partially because of the incredibly cold weather.

    Pumping is iffy at best. my goal is to send/leave 12 oz (4 3oz bottles) each day to cover 9-10 hours but i've been pumping 9-12 during the day. I'm hoping my body will adjust to the new schedule and get better as the weeks goes on before i run out of extra milk in my freezer.

    How is everyone else managing going back to work?

    Lo survived her first day at the sitter's and enjoyed it. She is currently asleep right now after nursing. Tmrw I have to do it all myself and I'm a little nervous, but am going to try to get as much ready tonight so hopefully the morning will be okay. My mom helped today. She ate well---3 5 oz bottles. I sent 4 and she had one left over, so I only need to send two bottles tmrw and I have pumped almost 14 oz today.

    @Zbug: We are on a pretty strict schedule. It's the only thing that has worked for her fussiness. I feed her every 3 hrs & put her down for naps on the 1.5 hr mark from the start of her feedings so on a good day she has 3 naps that are 1-1.5 hrs. I keep her up between her last two feedings.

    @singingbee: Glad it all went well!

    @Chillybear: Nice to see you around!

    watermelon / 14467 posts

    @Chillybear: Hello! Welcome back! I'm worried about pumping too, I can only pump 7-8 oz. while I'm at work and H is eating 12 oz. I'm going to add another pump session before bed to make up the difference and rebuild my stash.

    @singingbee: 14 oz! I'm so jealous!

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

    @Chillybear: besides the spillage, sounds like you guys are transitioning well! It is the worst though. I've been back for more than a month now and it's honestly nice to get a routine going.

    @daniellemybelle: holy jealousy. E takes 3 oz bottles every 2 hours at MOST (sometimes 1.5.) She usually takes 4 oz before bed, as long as they're spaced out enough (tonight she ate closer to bed because we went out to dinner, so she only took 3 at bedtime.) And her naps are 45 minutes MAX, more like 20-30. I'm so so so jealous. I have no idea how to stretch it out more. When we try to feed her more during the day it's a huge no go.

  15. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

    Oh also, I think E is teething. My mom said she thought she was, but I figured there's no way- drool and fussiness must be a stage now. But she started chewing on her hands- I figure that could also be discovery. But she is SO fussy now (like she will wake up whining while sleeping then go back to sleep) and she BITES. SO. HARD. If you give her a finger, she chews it. I am not sure all of this put together could be just developmental. Of course I have people telling me that but I guess time will tell!

    Hi ladies!

    I just joined this site so I'm obviously pretty late to this thread but would love to join you! My little girl was born on October 6. She's headed to daycare for the first time tomorrow (just for a couple hours to start) and I will be back to work full time next week. I'm really nervous! Looking forward to hearing about how you all are doing.

    @kjpugs: DD has been doing the same things! Some people have commented that she's preteething but who knows.

    @catlady: welcome! I'm new too :). Good luck with the transition to daycare/work.

    @catlady: welcome!!! Congrats on your daughter! Let us know how daycare goes It's sure got it's pros and cons to go back... hopefully LO will love it!

  19. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

    @kjpugs: It's definitely not perfect. What I described is an ideal day. We have worked hard at it because Sadie is so "high needs." Seriously don't be jealous of that! E seems so chill so if what you are doing works, go for it! I will say it's pretty unusual from what I know for a 3 month old to eat so frequently, especially formula fed. Have you tried burping her, letting her settle for 10 minutes, and then offering more? Re: naps, she naps almost exclusively in the swing now. Otherwise she wakes up after 30-45 minutes, which is supposedly really common. We do a little "fuss it out" too - if it's been less than an hour I wait 5-10 minutes before getting her. She often goes back to sleep - the swing is too powerful! Again, this is because she is hell on wheels if she is overtired.

    S is also doing all that teething stuff, but I think it's a stage, not teeth, though my mom thinks she sees/feels a nub!

    @kjpugs: also meant to say that DD eats every two hours during the day as well. She's EBF so hard to tell how much she's getting, but it's very rare that she will go more than two hours without eating. Maybe our LOs are more grazers?

    @catlady: Welcome! Congratulations on your daughter!

    @kjpugs: H has started biting too. She totally chomped on my shoulder the other day HARD. She's also working on gripping and grabbing, which is fine except she pinches me and holy heck does that hurt.

  23. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

    @daniellemybelle: I feel like now that we're talking, E used to nap longer, but I think this whole teething/phase thing is ruining that. She also fusses all night long. I counted TWELVE TIMES I needed to put her paci in for her last night.

    @catlady: I agree! Tell us more about you guys!

    @Zbug: I think this weekend my project will be trying to stretch it out. We shall see! I mean it's fine for her it would just be a lot less bottles to clean!

    @avivoca: the hair grabbing kills me. Even though my hair is back she'll grab the back area and oh boy does that hurt. And she DOESNT. LET. GO.

    So, Effie officially just kicked herself out of her swaddle, literally. We've been doing the sleep sack swaddle with mixed results (mixed = SO MUCH FUSSING ALL NGIHT LONG but I think that's more due to this teething/phase/whatever that's going on and less the sleepwear.) So this AM I got up at 7:45 and she was still sleeping so I was watching her on the monitor while getting ready for work. (Remember I work from home- lol.) And I see her fuss and drop her paci so I run in to put it back... and what do I see? Her kicking her legs and then- FLOP- she flipped herself right over. 180 degrees. I moved her back and woke up B to tell him to get up- she couldn't keep sleeping in that- and she did it AGAIN! So yeah, we are going cold turkey tonight. Hopefully her being in the sleep sack helped, I'll just use it with the swaddle wrapped with her arms out like they show on the instructions. And we have a secondhand Merlin Sleep Suit coming our way too to try. Fingers crossed this isn't painful!

    @catlady: Welcome!

    @kjpugs: Fi is also "teething" She drools like a faucet and does what i call a sneak attack if i'm holding her under her armpits she slowly turns her head and all of a sudden chomps on my thumb. We asked our parents and i had my first tooth at 4 months and Jon at 4 1/2 so we're expecting them soon. No buds yet but her gums look a bit swollen but it comes and goes.

    First day at daycare went well, When i picked her up at 4:45 she was napping and had been asleep for over an hour. she only ate 9 oz so fingers crossed that will be the trend. I'll still send 12 oz each day but i can keep up better with 9oz.

    This morning we had a rough start she woke up at 5 and i brought her in our bed and we both fell asleep i turned off my alarm at 6:15 and kept right on sleeping until 7 which is when were supposed to be on the road. Luckily i can be flexible with my hours at work. as long as i work 40 hours in the week i can adjust when i come in and leave.

    I cannot figure out how to dress her at night with this weather the last 2 nights its been incredibly cold outside so i've been doing diaper, short sleeve onesie, cotton sleeper, fleece Halo sack swaddle. But i think she was way too warm. Tonight maybe i'll do onesie, fleece sleeper and A&A swaddle. We have heat so its not like our house is freezing at night.

    @kjpugs: Fi started flipping belly to back at like 4 weeks, and just recently she started going from back to side. I think if she had her way she would be a side sleeper a couple times during play shes turned on her side and dozed off. But since she still sleeps in her RnP its back only at night. Hopefully after a few weeks of daycare, we'll transition to crib. She's quickly becoming a Houdini at getting out of A&A Swaddles she fights to have her hands up and out of the blanket

    @Zbug: YAY! But we aren't BF. We didn't offer it to her until a week and a half in when we realized BF wasn't working and I started EP. It's a lifesaver, especially right now with whatever it is that is going on with her.

    @Zbug: YAY! we held off the first couple weeks but the instant soothing cant be beat

    @Zbug: I'm totally pro-pacifier. My oldest loved his, I wish my younger (now 3 months) was more interested (he's hit or miss). With both kids we waited to introduce them till around 5 weeks post-partum to not screw with nursing or milk supply. I really love the effect in the car, when it soothes my LOs when I can't physically comfort them. With my oldest, the pacifier was magic- instant soothing. It made a big difference when we were out and about with him, made our lives a lot easier. There was a period (maybe around 6 months? 9 months? It all blends together now) when it was kind of a pain because the pacifier would fall out of his mouth at night but he couldn't get it back in on his own so he'd cry and we'd have to replace it... but that stage passed. We also had an easy time weaning him... we started restricting it to night, naps, car rides, and public excursions around 6 months, and started to cut things out gradually till he was only using it while sleeping by 1 year, and then stopped using it for naps, and then stopped overnight by about 15 months. Thereafter we still let him have it for naps and nighttime when he was sleeping at someone else's house, and it was a big enough treat that it made traveling with him a lot easier. He'll be three in April and I can't remember the last time he used a pacifier, and he has also never sucked his thumbs or fingers or anything else, which would be harder to take away.

    @Zbug: totally pro-pacifier but LO doesn't seem to like it so we have them for the car and for nighttime to settle.

    @Chillybear: good to see you back!

    @catlady: welcome!!

    Oh ladies, how I miss sleep... I'm not sure what to do anymore... No one is getting any sleep except for the dog. I've started to put her in the crib for daytime naps and I feel like she got her best sleep ever but not sure if it was a fluke or dumb luck. Hopefully something clicks soon.

    Also we will be flying for the first time next week. It's only a two hour flight but I'm getting really nervous, has anyone flown with their LO? Maybe I missed it during all the holiday talk.... Looking for any advice, tips or recommendations... Also I've been searching HB for advice too.

    @Zbug: Paci for the win! She will only take the Wubbanub kind. I have tons of Soothie pacifiers (the kind on the Wubs), but she spits them out immediately. Such a diva.

    @Chillybear: That sounds like how my Friday was. H decided to wake up at 5:30 to eat, I went back to sleep and slept past my alarm. So not fun.

    So, today my boss told me I get a raise! AND they will pay for me to do some training to help me be better at my job! I had a pump session after this meeting and it was my best pump session to date.

    @Lozza: thank you! I think you are right - the pros probably outweigh the cons. I guess I was thinking we made it three months using it rarely so maybe shouldn't start now. But it is an easier habit to break than thumb sucking, which I could see her starting instead. I appreciate your insight!

    @Redmini1: @Chillybear: @kjpugs: thanks!

  36. Zbug

    persimmon / 1355 posts

    @kjpugs: go for it. I usually err on the side of less meds is better, but I am all for it if LO is in pain. If it doesn't help, you will just have given her one dose. No big deal. If it helps, then you'll know she needed it and feel fine about giving it again if she fusses.

    @Zbug: thanks. It seems like she's in pain and it kills me. All signs point to teething pain but then I worry what if it's just gas and I'm medicating her and not helping? What you said tho makes a lot of sense.
