@Redmini1: I've sadly only heard HORRIBLE things about Target- stuff adding or disappearing from the registry (my friend's wedding registry there had BABY STUFF randomly added and she started getting congrats!!!) and items not being marked complete even when using the registry in store (I did that when I bought my SIL's shower gift and it later still showed unfulfilled... she got like 4 of the same thing for a few items.) That's why we're just doing BBB (so we have one ACTUAL store) and Amazon (for smart people!) haha!

@evansjamie: that's the pro of amazon to me, they might be like meh BBB is farther I'll just check out Amazon. Since gifts need to be sent to us (and not brought to a shower) it makes sense for us.

@kjpugs: I'm also doing a diaper registry, so I'm hoping my out-of-town family will do that or just have items sent to me.

@evansjamie: Sorry to be so full of unsolicited advice today, HAHA! Just was going to say my SIL did like 4 registeries (Target, BRU, Amazon, and a diaper one, and she said if she could do it over she'd do two. She said no one did the diaper one for her- probably too many options and also, her family is NOT into cloth diapers and weren't afraid to tell her! (it was awkward!) Just my 2 cents in case that's helpful!!!! Maybe if you did 2 stores and diapers?

@kjpugs: I don't mind the advice! Maybe I'll cut out Walmart...I really hate that place (and I don't knock people who shop there, I just don't agree with their business practices).

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@evansjamie: I will say the NICE thing about Target (and the only thing in it's favor for me!) is that your registry acts as a receipt so if you get dupes, you can return stuff, and who doesn't want a target gift card!? You can buy food or onesies or a TV or ANYTHING. So that's nice! Plus I think people without babies MUCH prefer shopping there.

@kjpugs: Thankfully, I'm not registering for a lot of the bigger items, like furniture, strollers, or car seats, so a lot of what's going to be on my registry are things you can get anywhere. That way I don't have to hear about if people think it's too expensive or this choice is better, blah blah blah.

This weekend or next, we're starting the registry with just the basics, and we'll update in a couple of weeks when we know if Woog is a boy or a girl.

@kjpugs: Good to know about Target, I hadn't heard that before. I just found out we have another store here call Land of Nod, it's from the same company as Crate & Barrel. So hopefully that could be a good one though judging from the website, its going to be on the pricey side.

I registered at Target for my wedding and had zero issues. I keep hearing bad things about their registries but I'm not worried (knock on wood!) I agree that it is really easy for people to shop there. We are registering at BRU too just to provide another option. They do have more things there than Target does in certain categories. I wish we had a BBB!

@Redmini1: Love Land of Nod! I didn't know they had a registry. I might do one there too just for fun. Do they give you a fulfillment discount?

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Redmini1: Oh, I love Land of Nod! I wish there was a store closer to me, but I might be ordering some of my crib bedding from them.

@daniellemybelle: I'm glad to see you had a good experience at Target!

  10. Redmini1

    cherry / 163 posts

@daniellemybelle: Land of Nod will send you a completion certificate where it lets you save 10% off on all reamaining items from your registry plus any new things you might add. It's only good for six months after though. And I read it can't be used at the outlet store.

Anyone feeling baby move yet? My BFF is a few weeks ahead o me and has been for a little while. I was feeling a VERY slight tapping randomly while laying in bed at night and thought it was nothing but then one of my baby apps said I could be experiencing it soon and listed many ways it is usually described, including a "tapping sensation." Here's hoping!

  12. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@kjpugs: I've been feeling tickles since 15+5, and they have been getting more consistent. Earlier this week, I felt three pops in a row, but no pops since then, just tickles. I think you are feeling movement!

BTW, as I type this, Woog is moving around and tickling me, so I assume s/he's saying hi to all you ladies!

  13. Lozza

    pear / 1837 posts

I sometimes think I feel baby movement, which wouldn't be surprising since they say second time moms can start to notice as early as 13 weeks, but nothing definite- with my son, I didn't really feel any movement till 20-21 weeks.

  14. Mrs. Monkey

I've felt a few popping feelings but they're not consistent enough to know if its a baby or not. I asked my doctor about it and he said a lot of the time it's just gas. Hoping that he's wrong!

  15. Mrs. Monkey

    cherry / 193 posts

So I went to the doctor's appointment yesterday and right away I asked the doctor if we would be able to find out the sex. He said he would try. As soon as he started the ultrasound, he started laughing and said the baby had it's hand exactly over that area. Like it's shy and didn't want us to see! We thought that by the end of the appointment it might move but when he did the shot from below, we saw two little feet and one hand right in the middle blocking our view. Such a bummer! We'll have to wait another month to find out...

We started our registry today! I ended up going to BRU, but we went at 10:00 so the store wasn't crowded at all. Right now, we're just doing basics, and will add more gender specific things next month.

  17. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@evansjamie: I started a pottery barn one the other day assuming the doctor is right and baby is a boy. They were discontinuing some of the bedding I wanted so my mom snatched it up for me.

  18. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@evansjamie: we did ours yesterday too!!!! I'm really only doing gender specific for a few clothes so I am going to add double qty's to some of the ones we need when we find out the sex- so half gender neutral, half specific for things like sleep sacks, etc How was the experience? BBB was AMAZING, they were so knowledgeable/helpful, kept checking on us, I was really impressed.

  19. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@kjpugs: it wasn't horrible. The staff was busy, which was nice because they weren't bugging us, and it was early so it wasn't crowded. I was overwhelmed, we kept asking each other "do we need this?" We're going to go back later and add more stuff after doing some more research.

So I'm reading Baby Bargains now and it's blowing my mind. Thanks for the suggestion!

My question is, are you registering based on what's the best "bargain" or are you registering for your ideal items, hoping friends & family will be generous? Obviously we will keep it within reason (not even registering at fancy stores like Pottery Barn) but I'm just wondering if I should register as if we had to pay for all if it ourselves, or be a little more free? I may start a separate thread about this!

  21. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@daniellemybelle: I think that's be a great thread. Minus our PBKids bedding I'm sticking with things we'd buy ourselves.

  22. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@daniellemybelle: we did a combination of both. Some stuff we liked was expensive, but we wanted it for a reason- but if no one buy it we might go for another highly rated more bargain one the book suggests. Other stuff- like the mammaroo- sound amazing but are pricey ($200+!) that I found other options less expensive. I feel like stuff I'm not sure baby will like (any kind of toy/carrier etc) is not worth splurging on (bc who knows if they'll love or hate it!) but more practical things, or things for me (cribs, gliders, high chairs, etc) I went with what I felt was really best.

  23. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@daniellemybelle: on our registry, we're registering for things we like and would buy ourselves after the fact. I'm putting furniture on it, but only to remind myself what I want to remember (like a glider). Some things I feel strongly about, and those are things we aren't registering for, like our crib, stroller, and car seat. I want those specific items and don't want someone to buy me something else because of price.

  24. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@ladybee: @kjpugs: @evansjamie: Thanks for your feedback! I am going to start a separate thread about this, though I think ultimately we will go more affordable.

@evansjamie: Why would registering for your crib, stroller, car seat, etc. be an issue? Do you think someone will see that you registered for an expensive car seat and just buy a cheaper one?

  25. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@daniellemybelle: It's just a preference. Bigger things are things I'm not comfortable asking for, and we've done a lot of research on them, so we're going to buy them ourselves. There are opinionated people in my circle about other things we've talked about (cloth diapering, co-sleeping/separate room, feeding, car seats), but I'm getting better about holding my ground.

With the furniture, we need to set that up early when DH is here so our pets can get used to it. It makes more sense to buy it ourselves.

Hey fellow mommas!!!!! I'm going to sell my Doppler as I'm not using it and it doesn't make me feel better. I thought I'd offer it up to my fellow October moms first. Let me know if anyone is interested. Nothing is wrong with it. I've tried it twice and can't find anything, but think I feel better just not using it.

  28. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Jennimac: thanks for the offer! If I had one and couldn't find the heartbeat, I'd freak out so I'm like you and feel better not having one.

I went to Ross tonight to look for maternity shirts. It was a sad, sad barely filled rack of clothes. This weekend I will be hitting Old Navy and Motherhood to find some dresses/skirts for work.

  29. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

Just a suggestion re: maternity clothes - if you have a Once Upon A Child or another consignment store, and you are okay with secondhand, it's a treasure trove!

@Jennimac: No thank you but appreciate you offering it up! I think it would only add to my anxiety if we couldn't find the heartbeat.

I think i'm feeling baby move today. I've been having weird sensations low and to the left of center. It feels like hunger pangs but way to low to be my stomach. They come and go and move a little bit toward center. very weird

@Chillybear: Congratulations! It must feel strangely wonderful. I can't wait until I feel the baby move. I felt some weirdness lately, but honestly, I think it's just gas. Because I felt them before I was pregnant.

  32. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Chillybear: Very cool! Maybe I've been feeling them too? I've been treating that like it was hunger pangs, since it happens right before bed. I've also been feeling the tickling sensation.

@daniellemybelle: I went in there once and it was a madhouse. I need to go on a day other than Saturday.

  33. Redmini1

    @Chillybear: That's so cool!

Toured my first day care facility today, so very overwhelming to already be thinking about having to leave my child when I haven't even had him/her yet. Also very very expensive. Is anyone else looking into day cares yet?

  34. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Redmini1: I have been. There are two that I need to tour, and I'm trying to get in contact with them about it.

  35. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@Chillybear: That's so fun! All this talk about baby movement is making me have phantom kicks but I know they aren't real, because I only feel them when I am on HB.

@Redmini1: @evansjamie: We are lucky that my family is going to help with childcare for the first several months, but I have still done a lot of research because eventually (maybe at the 1 year mark) we will most likely need a daycare. I can't imagine how overwhelming it is to tour them!

  36. Chillybear

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@Redmini1: thanks!... I went to the daycare where my SIL sends my niece at like 8 weeks because they were on the wait list for almost 9 months. Its our first choice since me and SIL can be emergency pick ups and she and my niece really love it there. Price is more expensive than i thought daycare would be but compared to others is actually pretty affordable compared to some

  37. Redmini1

    cherry / 163 posts

@Evansjamie: Yeah, I have a few more to check out too, so far I've only seen the bigger day care facilities but DH and I are going to look at the in-home day care options too.
@daniellemybelle: my mom's nearing retirement so she offered in a couple years so maybe # 2 if we're lucky can be cared for by her. That's really cool that your family is going to help.
@Chillybear: Wow! Thats a long wait list, the one on my work's property luckily has openings which is the one I saw today but they are definitely the most expensive option.

It's a fine line between making sure the facility is safe and you trust the caregivers but the cost, sheesh... Now it feels like my salary will be going to all day care and baby costs, DH will have to carry the house and bills.

  38. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Redmini1: Yeah, the cost sucks. One that we are looking at will cost nearly half my yearly salary for infant care alone! It's bonkers. Hopefully they get back to me soon about a tour. I have another one I will call tomorrow and talk to that is significantly cheaper and still accepts cloth diapers.

  39. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@daniellemybelle: I wish my family could help, but my mom has some health problems that would make it hard for her to chase after a mobile infant/toddler, dad works third shift and needs to sleep during the day, and DH's parents live five hours away. His mom also smokes like a chimney, and I am not comfortable with Woog being in that kind of environment day in and day out.

  40. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@Redmini1: @evansjamie: I know I am totally lucky to have help from family! Still, even though it is 1 1/2 years away, I am looking into daycares because I know the wait lists are crazy and I want to know which one will best when we need a daycare. I'm not intending to rely on family long-term.
