@ladybee: Yay! So excited that you got saw the baby move from the outside. Can you believe all of that is happening by your child - in your belly? It still blows my mind!

@evansjamie @Redmini1 couldn't agree anymore! Crazy that we're in our third trimester (ok - technically mine is tomorrow)! How are you gals feeling? Granted I spent this week at the beach and was really feeling the effects of the sun, I feel like my energy level has definitely decreased.

@Sadieloo: I am definitely getting more tired and uncomfortable. Multinight trips to the bathroom are coming back, but otherwise I feel wonderful!

@evansjamie: That's great! So glad you are feeling well!! Hopefully it was just this week and I'll feel back to normal now that I am home.

@Sadieloo: I'm only 24 weeks so I have another month till my third but I can not believe how fast time is going!
I am so excited! I went out to update our registry and someone bought something! Our first shower is August 3rd so I will be stalking for sure

@Sadieloo: feeling pretty good. We are going on vacation next week for a wedding so I'm looking forward to relaxing before the craziness of the last few months set in.
Anyone else doing a babymoon of sorts? Our vacation wasn't planned for it but is an unexpected bonus.

@ladybee: So exciting that someone bought something off of your registry!!! I am just now putting my registry together (which I find to be a bit overwhelming). I am fortunate that my sister is giving me a lot of her stuff, but I still can't believe that I have 50 or so items, which I consider to be only part of the basics! Although I'm only 27 weeks, because I am 3 calendar months away from my due date, I am declaring myself in the third trimester.

@Redmini1: Glad to hear you are feeling well! Awesome that you guys are taking a babymoon and you'll get some time to rest and relax! We were just in South Carolina with my family, including my 5 nieces and nephews, so it wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped but still had a lot of fun! I now plan to take full advantage of these last few months of it being just the two of us!!!

We are about to head out and do our in-store registry!!!! I've already started our amazon one. The other one is at target, only because that's the only in-store place for both cities to go to. Our first shower is August 10 and I just ordered two cute dresses for it I'm hoping one of them works!!!

@Jennimac: I found it overwhelming too. I registered for anything and everything I liked. Then I came home, logged in and deleted half of it.

@ladybee @Jennimac: I hear you! Registering was so overwhelming. I know options are good, but seriously...can't we just get 2-3 options of each thing and that's it?

Today was the glucose screening! First of all, it is cruel, CRUEL, to deny a pregnant woman water. Of all days, I woke up in the middle of the night and I was so thirsty (not to mention hungry) and I couldn't even drink anything. The drink itself wasn't bad (I chose fruit punch; fyi it is kind of like red Gatorade), but we weren't happy when we asked the nurse why we couldn't drink. My husband is a diabetic and was extremely confused. My midwife said it was ridiculous that we couldn't have water. I can understand fasting, but not the denying water prior to the test. Then onto the appointment, where the student nurse couldn't find the heartbeat (ACK!) but the midwife found it right away, and finally drawing my blood, which meant I could eat and drink!
Water and Bob Evans never tasted so good.
And HOLY COW, I can't believe I'm in twice a month appointments now!

@evansjamie: Yay for glucose test being over. That water denial business is BS.

Hi Ladies, I've been MIA. We just returned from our babymoon in Seattle -- we'd never been before and spent 4 days just wandering around the city, eating too much and relaxing. Besides the 4-hour flight (we live in Chicago) in which my feet got so swollen I could barely walk, it was bliss. I highly recommend this babymoon thing if you can do it.
Now it's down to the real business -- MIL in town on Thursday for the 5-day purge & organize marathon. And I still have to register. Good luck to all with upcoming appointments and a big YAY for those of you who have crossed the 3rd trimester threshold. You're on the homestretch!

And I'm Back.........
after having very little access to the internet for the better part of a week i'm back at work following a ridiculously relaxing vacation at my inlaws beach house. Most days we spent feet in the sand slathered in sunscreen and at night walking the boardwalk and treating ourselves to our favorite Jersey Shore specialties. It was awesome sitting in a beach chair watching my bump move when she kicked. Hubs has yet to catch her kicking as shes very shy with him. Also swimming feels amazing until you get out of the water and feel so heavy.
I'm working on catching up on the thread and seeing what all you ladies have been up to. As for me I have my 1 hour glucose test on Wednesday morning at 7am. Did you ladies eat any differently in the days leading up to the test? I dont have to fast prior to the test and they told me i should eat something.... I'm thinking eggs maybe?

Anyone have air travel suggestions? DH and I are leaving LO with my parents in a couple weeks and going to Europe for a week for a wedding, and while I'm looking forward to the trip, I'm not terribly psyched about the 8-9 hour flight. I've been told to start baby aspirin 3 days in advance, not to drink anything carbonated on the flight, and to buy some compression stockings (anyone want to recommend their compression stockings?). Any other suggestions? I'll be 28-29 weeks.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Chillybear: I would eat protein with no carbs so you hopefully don't mess with your glucose reading. The eggs are probably a good idea. I wish I was allowed to eat, it was pretty miserable to not even get breakfast until 10:00. And if you have the choice, go with the fruit punch drink. It wasn't bad at all. I chose it because I didn't want to risk hating the orange one and not being able to drink orange juice again.
@Lozza: I don't know about compression stockings, but I've heard good things about compression socks (they go up to your knees). Also, get up and walk around once an hour and stretch.

@Lozza. Stay hydrated! Chug that water. Chug it! Until you can't take it anymore. I didn't hear about the baby aspirin. What's that supposed to do?
pear / 1837 posts
@corilyns: Aspirin is a blood thinner, and interferes with clotting. Risk of blood clots during air travel is increased during pregnancy, so the aspirin is supposed to help combat that. I'm supposed to start taking it 3 days before the flight and continue till 3 days after I get home. I think it probably wouldn't be necessary/recommended on a short flight, but my flight is something like 9 hours long, hence the extra steps.

@Lozza: my advice is to get an isle seat and/or fly business if possible. I flew to Seattle (a 6 hr flight) at around 23 weeks and was for the most part fine with the exception of my uterus pressing up against my ribs. I also found the plane seats to be really uncomfortable. Although, it may just be my bad posture. My other piece of advice is water, water, water. It's good for you and will make you need to get out of your seat to pee (and walk around). Sorry for the long comment. Have lots of fun in Europe!!!

Hello to all the October bees! I just joined HB a little while ago and am still figuring out all the boards. I'm team blue and expecting 10/14 so am in week 26! I'm bored in the airport October mamas! Waiting on my (delayed) flight back to Orlando after my long weekend in NJ. I got to do maternity pics (with a gender reveal- SO SOON!) see lots of friends, spent some time in the city and saw Newsies with my mom aunt and cousin, and had my baby shower yesterday. Gender reveal went well and hopefully they will all keep their word to not say anything until our other shower Friday. I must say this travel is STRESSING ME OUT. Can't wait for it to be a week from now and then I will have NO travel plans ever again (that I know of.) I'm ready to be home with my pugs and hubby. Ps only one stranger has noticed my pregnancy this trip - a person working at Shop Rite- and she said "oh you're having a ___" And was RIGHT! Crazy, huh?! My mom was so pumped to find out. Can't wait to hop on here tomorrow and read back over what I missed. Hope you all had a great 4th!

@kjpugs: So fun! I love that you waited until your baby showers to reveal your baby's gender. I totally hear you on the travel! We flew from NJ to SC last week and I have to go to Cleveland this weekend. I've been surprised at how tired traveling makes me feel. I'm generally pretty active but have definitely been feeling the desire to slow down. It's a little annoying. Thankfully after this weekend I have only one more trip to DC and hopefully my MIL won't insist that we continue to visit her in CT now that I'm getting a bit uncomfortable. Side vent - my MIL doesn't work, nor does much of anything else, yet she is constantly asking DH when we are going to visit her. Without getting into the complicated situation that we have with my MIL, I will say this - she lives 2 1/2 hours away and when we go there she speaks in Polish the whole time (I only know the important words - Polish foods :)), not to mention we both work full time, I am pregnant, we are moving to a house in less than a month and have a million of things to do not to mention we just want time to ourselves pre-kids. End rant. Anyone have advice on how to handle somewhat manipulative/needy MIL's?
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: UGH I feel youuuu! And while now I want pieroggis (that's Polish right?) I get the MIL thing. Luckily my MIL travels but what I've learned.... let DH handle it. Make sure DH understands how you feel (we are the pregnant ones, and they're USED to dealing with their moms their whole life!) and once he gets how you feel talk about what needs to happen. Sounds like this might be him saying that you guys are now done traveling but she is welcome to visit you. But it has to come from him... that's been the ONLY thing that helps with my MIL! Helps me stress less and she actually listens to him. I'm always the bad guy and just got sick of it!

@LOZZA: I purchased CEP Compression Running Socks - they come up to your knees. I bought them for a trip I took during my first trimester and figured I'd use them for recovery for post-partum running I figured they seemed to be the most practical compared to the drugstore geriatric compression socks!

@Sadieloo: Oh my gosh, I completely feel you on that. My MIL is generally okay, but she smokes SO MUCH and I keep telling my husband that he has to tell her that she can't smoke around our child (even in her own house). My mother is the really needy one, and I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do about it. She's convinced that she'll be coming to stay with us (NO), that she is going to be in the delivery room (ABSOLUTELY NOT), and always telling me whats best for my child. It is ridiculous. I hope that your husband can get through to her about how it will need to be now that there is a baby in the picture.

Ugh, just found out I failed the 1-hour test (glucose was 149; they like it to be between 90-120), so now I have to do the 3-hour test.

@evansjamie: sorry to hear about your glucose results I've heard it's fairly common to fail the 1 hr and then pass the 3 hr one. hope everything turns out fine, good luck!!
