@daniellemybelle: I'm supposed to have a shower in August and it will likely be on the smaller side (especially considering the invites haven't gone out). I live in the NYC area, my in-laws are in Connecticut and my family and the shower will be in my hometown outside of DC. In other words, everyone is pretty spread out and I don't want to ask people to drive for hours for a shower.

@daniellemybelle: Most of us live along the same interstate within a few hours, so we usually meet in the middle for baby showers.

Ladies, quick question. I need some advice. How can I tell the difference between vaginal discharge and leaking amniotic fluid. I feel like things smell kinda funny/different down there. Sorry for TMI.

  4. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@corilyns: I am not sure. Everything I've read is that discharge gets heavier, but you can also leak urine. How much is it? Are you soaking panty liners? I have more discharge, but I also sweat more in that area so things are definitely a little moist.

@corilyns: I'm not sure but I heard you can use pool PH sticks the test it. Maybe dr google could help? I've noticed my discharge picking up and it smells different.

@corilyns: I believe in one of my emails they mentioned this and said that if you lay down for a while then get up and it all comes out pretty quickly, it could be amniotic fluid (because it will leak and pool and then come out at once when you stand). If you are unsure it's best to get it checked out though!

Well, we had a great 26 week appointment! It's crazy to think that we are this far. I scheduled my glucose test. It's on August 1st. I have to fast and I can't have water. I think I'm more bummed about that than the test itself. Baby is measuring right on target and is estimated to weigh a little over 2 lbs. I finally put on some weight---1 lb, but it's something. We go back for our 30 week appointment on August 12 and then after that we go back every two weeks.

I have a big shower on August 10. It's up in my hometown and it's a lot of my mother's friends and some of my old hometown friends. I know I'll have a work shower, then some friends are throwing another here in the town I live in. DH's family is throwing us one, which is so sweet of them, so I think between all of that we should be showered out.

On another note, I have a goal of August 7 to have the baby's room cleared out. That way we can paint and then bring in the furniture. My sisters are stressing me out because that's too late for them, but it's the best I can do unless they come down and do it themselves. Oh well.

@corilyns: I've had the same thought recently because I am soaking my underwear by lunchtime & it smells different. Also, it seems wet/liquidy, not thicker like discharge... But as gross as it is, I'm almost positive it's a mixture of sweat and urine. I have an appointment on Friday so I am going to ask then just in case.

Team Green ladies, if you want maybe you should separate yourselves from "Unknown" in the list? I feel like we have quite a few ladies mixed in there who just aren't active posters, and I want to know who is waiting to find out! Just an idea

  11. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@daniellemybelle: Mine is liquidy too, but panty liners are my saving grace. Between this and my naturally sweaty tendencies, I go through lots of underwear. As much as I love being pregnant, I will be glad when I'm back to normal and it's not super hot and humid.

@evansjamie @kjpugs @ladybee @daniellemybelle: Thanks Ladies! I went to a Moms-to-Be dinner tonight and didn't enjoy it because I've been worried about this. I have naturally sweaty tendencies and for awhile I thought it was just sweat, but then I started worrying, "what if it's amniotic fluid and I can't tell?" (I can be a worrywart) It was the different smell that got me more worried. I'll ask my doctor. You guys calmed me down. Thanks again.

@jennimac: congratulations on progress. We just finished the house overhaul and it feels good. Good luck.

Meanwhile, at the Mom To Be dinner, we had a great pediatrician panel. They answered a bunch of questions. Now I think I have our pediatrician picked out. She's smart, warm and near us! Yay! Her partner was like a walking encyclopedia, but in a lovely way. You guys all set with Peds?

@corilyns: I haven't even thought about pediatricians!!!! another thing to add to the list.

@Jennimac: Sorry. I don't want to add to your worry pile.

We have to sign up for a pediatrician when we fill out our hospital paperwork which has to be done in Trimester 2. It's was DH's job to find one, but I lucked out and found a pediatrician at tonight's dinner. So DH is off the hook.

I am dragging my feet on finding a pediatrician! I feel like I don't know where to start. Also, I need to get my doula first! I'm afraid if I wait much longer on the doula front, all the good ones will be taken.

@kjpugs: First, you need to understand that I have undiagnosed OCD and when I fixate on something it's really hard for me to let it go. I fixated on this badly. After calling all the stores that care Britax in Ohio and Britax to ask for a sample with no luck I searched for it online. Buy Buy Baby carried online only but we don't have one so I looked on Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They also carried both online so I took my printout from their website to Bed, Bath and Beyond and asked them to order it so I could use a 20% off coupon plus I got free shipping since the lady was super nice. The carseat came to $155. Stupid part is now I have to send it back to refund our credit card and then re-order both using my parents. Without taxes and shipping the stroller and the car seat will be $344 using 20% off coupons.

@kjpugs: I was allowed to eat... a few days before the test i cut back on eat sugary things (no OJ, cereal, pastas, desserts) and tried to up the protein. I scheduled my test for 7 am so i wouldnt miss too many hours at work. before i left that morning i had a hard boiled egg and a slice of whole grain toast with PB and a bottle of water. I found out i passed yesterday.

@ladybee: ugh, I'm so torn. Amazon doesn't have the set in kiwi and you have to buy them separtely ($30 more) on BBB. Plus the set for both is $299 on Amazon ($399 on BBB) I think my FIL is buying the set if he buys BBB I might return for the other two but if he goes amazon I'll probably just keep them. WOMP. Why keep such a great color combo from us!!!!!

@ladybee: Oh man, I want to take my carseat back and buy that one! It's so cute!

@kjpugs: I was not allowed to eat or drink anything AT ALL. It was torture. Plus I ate pretty badly leading up to my test. This time I'm eating more normally, but lunch will be chicken and pasta alfredo and dinner will be eggs and some other something with protein. I'm not drinking anything sugary, and I'm going to buy a protein bar to eat after the test because it will have been about 14 hours with no food.

WHY do they make us not even get water???? That is cruel.

@corilyns: Um, I'm dragging my feet on pediatricians and day care. I'm a slacker, it's not very interesting and I'd rather focus my energy on the more fun side of having a baby. Plus, I have to pick out two, one in IN and one in KY since KY peds don't have privileges at IN hospitals. I guess I'll add it to the ol' to-do list.

Also, INTERVIEW TOMORROW and I had a horrible dream that pieces of my portfolio were missing (like, half-pages of magazines rudely cut out and gone). Cue freak-out.

  28. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@kjpugs: That is hard! My parents got the black set at BRU for $320 before taxes in May but I kept feeling like I didn't love it and I wanted to love what someone was spending that much money on. They were willing to spend up to $400 so I knew if it was more expensive (which it will be slightly) they wouldn't care. If Bed, Bath, and Beyond wouldn't order it for me so I could use the 20% off I would have passed and kept the black.

@evansjamie: I wonder why some offices make you fast and others don't. Weird. We only have a daycare because the school district I work for offers one for the teachers. Otherwise I would have put it off too because it is soooo not fun.

@ladybee: According to the lab tech (whose judgement I just do not trust; my husband is a diabetic so I trust him/his endo more), even having water messes with the volume of glucose to fluid and can skew the test. According to the endo/my husband, it doesn't matter if you have 8 oz of water with a tablespoon of sugar or 20 oz of water with a tablespoon of sugar, you are still getting the same amount of sugar and the liquid shouldn't factor into it.

@evansjamie and @ladybee: you are correct - having water should not skew the results. i was allowed to drink as much water as i needed before and during my 1 hour and 3 hour tests. i am receiving care from a hospital that was just ranked as #1 in endocrinology and diabetes...

@evansjamie: @kjpugs: I can't eat or drink anything after midnight. I'm super bummed because I love me some water. My appointment is 8 am, so hopefully it will go by quickly.

  36. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@mrs. mochi: My midwife agrees that it's ridiculous to not have any water (we both agree that you can't control what people eat so it's best to fast), but just to be safe I won't be drinking any. I might wet my mouth a bit in the morning though.

@Jennimac: My 1-hour was the same way, no food or drink after midnight. It wasn't horrible. The drink made me thirsty, and I'm sure staring at my 20 oz. glass of ice water I brought to have at the end didn't help matters. This time I'll be going something like 14-15 hours without food or water (I go to bed around 10:00; my appointment is at 8:30 and the last blood test is around 11:30). I'm going to the store tonight to pick up some protein bars and bread so I can have peanut butter toast before I go to sleep.

@evansjamie: @corilyns: @daniellemybelle: I am also having the same issue! Granted it's in the 90's this week but I do feel like I've been having a bit more discharge that is watery. I have been having some tinkling problems when I sneeze and I do tend to sweat a lot as well. Needless to say, I'm going to ask my midwife at my next appt. (next Friday). Now I'm paranoid too
