@dreamcatcher: Welcome!! Whats your due date?
I've been in Nursery design mode all week... theres not much I can do in there until we finish working on the basement and clear out the bedroom but i've been playing with polyvore and tweeking inspiration boards. Our colors are White, Charcoal, Aqua, Teal, Purple, Pink, and Lime and for theme were going with elephants & hot air balloons (some lilo and stitch stuff might make their way in there too). I found adorable prints on etsy and started buying fabrics for various projects that i have going in my head. Here's my latest board.

@ladybee: omg LOVE both the themes you posted. Which is unlikely for me, so A+. Whales is just TOO CUTE.
@daniellemybelle: HAHA my BFF has a super ruffley one (and I actually like it!!! Just for her set, not mine. It just doesn't seem to "go" with our current bedding.) I will keep my eyes out for ya

@Chillybear: Cute! I love the elephants!
@kjpugs: Do you know where your friend got hers?!

All of these themes are TOO CUTE!
@kjpugs: Normally, I love a good dust ruffle, but I ended up really wanting a tailored crib skirt. So here's her crib skirt (deep teal with a floral panel that isn't visible in the pic) and quilt (purple with flowers, butterflies, and birds).
ETA: I need to rip the crib skirt apart because the pattern measurements for the deck were wrong and I didn't know until I went to put the skirt on. It's not a huge deal, but I just didn't want to fool with it if it wasn't going to bother me (it totally does; I'm working it this weekend).

@kjpugs: Bah! My mom sews but she thinks the dust ruffle I want might be too much for her. The search continues!

@daniellemybelle: PBKids has this one: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/ruffle-crib-skirt/?pkey=bcrib-skirts&
If you know a seamstress or anyone who sews, you might be able to get one custom made for a bit less.

@evansjamie: I was JUST looking at that one! I want it in pink, but I'm wondering if we can dye it? Even though my mom & I were planning to make the curtains, I love these too: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/ruffle-blackout-panel-white/?cm_src=AutoRel

@daniellemybelle: Those are CUTE! I pinned a tutorial awhile back for how to make a ruffled curtain (a la Anthro's ruffled shower curtain) http://www.elleapparelblog.com/2011/02/anthropology-ruffle-shower-curtain.html
@Chillybear: Thank you! It's brighter than it appears in that picture, the lighting is awful in that room (plus I think the blue sucks a lot of the light out).
watermelon / 14467 posts
@daniellemybelle: You probably could dye it, but I'm skeered of dying things. Kind of like I'm skeered of making clothes. I can do a bag, curtains, small quilts, and other little things, no problem, but put a clothing pattern in my hands and I quake in my boots.

@daniellemybelle: Thanks! At first I was like, eh, about the whales but every time I look at that happy little whale I melt! I knew I had to have PBKids bedding so my options weren't endless. The sheets from there are sooooo soft. I love the ruffle bed skirt and curtains. We have a PBKids here and everything in there is so nice.
@kjpugs: Thanks! I'm not a real theme girl but pretty much anything PBKids puts out I like. A knew everything I wanted for a girl so boy stuff was harder.
@Chillybear: the colors in your board are amazing! It'll be so pretty!
@evansjamie: I am beyond envious of your sewing skills! The bedding is beautiful!

@ladybee: that must be it... I love both that you posted!!! I guess I'm a PB kids fan!

@kjpugs: Their girl sheets are amazing! Very bright and girly yet classy. And super soft.

Question unrelated to all the nursery/GD stuff we've been discussing... What are you doing when looking for pediatricians?
I talked to my OB about it yesterday, she talked about the difference between a small practice (1-2 peds) and a larger group. I've LOVED having a larger group for my OB's practice so I think I prefer that. I asked her what to do then and she said to call them, see if they were taking new patients, and if they take your insurance.
But as a mom... what things should we ask? I plan to vaccinate so that's not something I would lead off with (I know non-vac moms would want to make sure that's ok) but what other thigns would you guys or have you guys asked ped offices?
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: For me, I actually want to know that my pediatrician will require all their patients to be vaccinated. I'm not comfortable with bringing my baby to a waiting room with unvaccinated kids. That's something that actually crosses quite a few off my list because "vax-lax" is pretty popular in my area at the moment.
Other than that, I have compiled a list based on personal recommendations and good reviews I've found online, and once I narrow it down by availability, insurance and the vaccination thing, I am just going to meet with them all in person. I'll bring a list of questions I find online, I'm sure, but personality and if I feel comfortable with them is something I just am going to feel out.

@kjpugs: I'm in a bit of a different situation, because I have to pick two peds, but I want one that is okay with a delayed schedule. I'm very much for vaccinations, but I'd like to spread them out a little bit. I also want a good one that is close to my house and would prefer a smaller practice. Another huge thing is breastfeeding friendly.

A little bit about me;
I am 21 and expecting my 2nd DD. My first DD will be 3 in January. I got married to my hubby last October. It took us 2 cycles trying for this baby. We are having another girl. Poor DH keeps looking at football clothing and I have to tell him to walk away. haha I hope to do another vaginal delivery but this one med free. My EDD is October 4th!

@kjpugs: I have a list of questions to ask your Ped from a mom-to-be dinner I attended the other night. I'll send it to you. I think it's online, but I have no idea where. When I get home tonight I'll post it.
At this dinner, four peds were on a panel. They were AWESOME. They were basically explaining how you have to feel comfortable with your ped, understand their hours and make sure they work for your family and have a similar philosophy on vaccinations. among a bunch of other things I don't remember. These folks had such a great way of explaining things I didn't know that I loved all four. They also suggested doing a prenatal consult. That way you get to know the ped before settling on a choice. So you don't feel freaked out at the first appointment. They also suggested kinda sticking with the same doctor regardless of practice size. Because that ped knows you and your child.
@daniellemybelle -- That's interesting: where do you live that "vax-lax" is so du jour?

@evansjamie: Can I have your fat, juicy cat? I miss my cat.(she died several years ago) But my dear dog would never allow a new feline family member.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@corilyns: "Du jour" is probably not the case, haha, but it seems to be gaining popularity. I am in a few FB groups for moms that lean crunchy so that's probably why I feel that way, too. I live in Nashville.

@dreamcatcher: Welcome and congratulations! Two girls -- you will have your hands full. You should let your DH know (my DH always said leading up to us finding out the gender of our LO that he wants a boy to play catch with), that girls are just as good at boy stuff and also like sports
watermelon / 14467 posts
@corilyns: Aww, my little chicken baby is deliciously juicy! I'd have a hard time convincing my husband to let you have her though. She was mad in that picture because her sister beat her to the under-crib cave.

Just wanted to say WOW. I love all of your nursery themes. I am SOOO behind all of you gals. DH and I close on our house on August 1, so I assume I'll be going nuts from then on out. I have no idea how we are going to furnish and decorate an entire house as opposed to a 1 BR apartment, but the nursery will def be my priority. If any of you have suggestions on websites to help with decorating ideas, where to find reasonable but good furniture, etc. that would be greatly appreciated!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@daniellemybelle: You're so close to me! I'm just three hours up the road in Louisville. I haven't noticed much of a vax-lax culture here, but there is definitely a growing trend of being more crunchy.
@dreamcatcher: How exciting! Don't worry, my little girl is going to be particularly muddy if my husband has anything to do with it (he's a biologist). Your DH just might end up with a little girl who loves sports like he does!

@Sadieloo: Pinterest is where I go for ideas. As for furniture, I bought my crib on Amazon, it's a Da Vinci Jenny Lind Crib, and most of the furniture in our nursery is stuff we already had (bookcase, dresser, glider).

@evansjamie: Thanks for the tips! By the way, I am envious of your sewing skills. How did you learn? I haven't sewn anything since middle school about a million years ago and that was just pillows and scrunchies!
kiwi / 726 posts
@daniellemybelle: @corilyns: the non-vax is quite popular around here. I live just outside of NYC in Hoboken, NJ.

@Sadieloo: I decided I hated knitting because it took too long, and I had a picture window that needed a small curtain so we could walk through the living room and not feel like everyone on the playground could see inside our apartment. My MIL gave me a vintage Singer, so I just practiced sewing straight lines and it clicked with me. I've done pillows, cafe curtains, two big quilts (I HATE big quilts), crib quilts for my friends babies, and several bags. I'm currently working up the courage to try garment sewing, but I am scared. It's a whole other beast.

@Sadieloo: Oh yeah, they will keep us on our toes for sure. He's already trying to teach our first DD how to play football! She loves to sit and watch games with him. I just shake my head and giggle Thanks for the welcome!

@dreamcatcher: Lol! That is too cute. I bet she has DH wrapped around her finger.
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: That's awesome! You are totally inspiring me. If only sewing machines weren't so darn expensive!
pea / 22 posts
@Sadieloo: Yeah, I always tell him, "You'll be wrapped around two fingers here shortly." He wanted a boy really bad but secretly I think the thought of another little daddy's girl melts his heart.
