Anyone have contractions? I had 3 really painful ones the other night. I think they were braxton hicks but they got me on all fours swaying back and forth. DH just snored away next to me, in my head I was like "Seriously, your sleeping and I'm in pain!" haha Guys have it so easy!!

@dreamcatcher: How sweet! That's kind of why I secretly wanted a girl (we're having a boy) because I just feel like a little girl will melt DH's heart and open it open in a way he never thought was possible. Then again, I'm sure any first child regardless of gender will do that.

@dreamcatcher: Not yet. At least not that I am aware of, but I have definitely had some achy-ness in my lady parts. Not sure if it's the baby's head putting pressure on stuff or what.

@kjpugs: I was doing the same thing this week. My doc gave me a list with my pre-admission paperwork that listed all the Peds and Family practices that work in my hospital. From there I started by looking at if they take my insurance, proximity to the house, and I too wanted a larger practice. My SIL uses the one closest and has the most doctors so i asked her about it last night. I called them today and I made an appt to sit down with one of the docs for august 6th. I have 3 more on the list just in case. The questions I wrote down to ask were
    - Appt Hours? Night and Weekend hours? and how quickly can i get in for a sick visit?
    - Split office waiting rooms for sick and well visits?
    - 24 hour emergency procedure or nurses line
    - Assigned to 1 doc (they have 8 + 2 PAs) or bounced around?
    - Breastfeeding support or LC's they work with?
    - Hospital privileges at the hospital associated with Day care (if theres an emergency situation at daycare they would bring the child to that hospital 1st)

@dreamcatcher: Holy Braxton Hicks! This craziness just began for me too, this week. Are you drinking more water than you can stomach? Because what I hear is that we need to drink tons and tons of water to stave off these things. I notice them more on days when I haven't slept enough and have worked out and not drank enough water.
And while I'm ranting, I told my doctor at yesterday's appointment and she was so blase about it. I mean, if you're FTM, how DO you know they aren't real contractions? Because they eventually stop, once you relax, I hope?

@Sadieloo: Jersey love! I grew up in Montclair and Caldwell. I was just in Caldwell for my trip and was in Jersey City for the 4th! So jealous, I miss NJ TONS!

@Chillybear: great questions!! I will definitely be using them!

I was excited to find out yesterday too that the hospital I will deliver at is very highly regarded. They (along with our practice especially) have a very low C-section rate, and the hospital has ALL private rooms. I haven't been yet but she made a comment about how it was luxe and hotel-like. Woohoo! Can't wait til DH's hours stabilize so we can go do a tour and classes there!

@kjpugs: Really?!? Such a small world! We actually are closing on a house in Montclair on Aug. 1st! Where do you live now?

  9. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@Sadieloo: SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!! I grew up on Alexander Ave in (technically) Upper Montclair and still spend tons of time there when I visit. I was just at Raymond's on Church Street 2 weeks ago... NOMMMMMMMM. I went to college in NC, then moved to IN for a job, and DH and I moved to FL (Orlando) a little over a year ago. Our goal would be to be back in NJ in 5+ years but it's more based on if we can with our careers, so it's more of a long-term goal.

    kiwi / 726 posts

@kjpugs: You should visit next time you're in Montclair (we're moving to Montclair Ave.)! I would guess that we'll both have LO's by then Upper Montclair is great. We've only heard good things about the town. I've lived in our outside of NYC since 2002 so it will be a big change for me. It says a lot too that you've lived in lots of places, yet still want to move back!

@kjpugs: I just had an appointment with our first Ped. and she looked at me like I was nuts interviewing her!! DH didn't come with but I asked the questions like insurance, hours, after hour care and what happens if there is a really sick baby in the waiting room and we are coming in. She assured me and are very big Peds in the area...plus 2 of my good friends use them and really like 98% of the doctors in the practice. So I guess as long as LO is looked after I can't complain too much...plus it's less than 5 minutes from my house and they have 4 other offices open 6 days a week.

@Sadieloo: oh there's just so much to do there. I went to Watchung School, we moved to Caldwell when I was in 6th grade (my mom changed jobs and was in N Caldwell) but there's just so much to do in that area that we were always around there. Lots of restaurants and shops. Church street is a fun area for shopping or dinner, and when I "party" we go to Just Jake's off Bloomfield Ave (ha, like that'll happen much now) or Egan's (which is good for dinner too!) I'll think on it and let you know if I have any other ideas for stuff for you guys to check out. Congrats on the move!

Also certain times of year they have the Iris gardens- I think this is it: http://presbyirisgardens.org/wordpress/ it was across from the public pool. I used to go paint them when I was in high school.

@eisrael: Thank you! It was ambitious and turned out pretty well I think.

@Sadieloo: I got my first new sewing machine from Walmart, and after four years, three moves and a lot of sewing, it bit the dust this spring and I bought a Janome. This thing sews like a dream!

@dreamcatcher: I think I had a few last Wednesday. The lower part of my uterus tightened, so I sat down and got a drink. I've been shooting for 80 oz of water a day, especially in this heat.

@Chillybear: Those are great questions! I need to sit down and write some out. I don't know if I need to be super selective for my IN pediatrician, but will probably ask around and look in the stuff I got at the Baby Fair in April. I plan on drilling my KY ped though. I need to be able to mesh with my girl's doctor and trust him/her.

Anyone's hospital far away from home? Mine is 45 min - - I consider that far while in labor. haha DH is dreading the drive. From my work it's only like 15 minutes so a part of me is hoping I go into labor at work. I work for my dad so I already told him to be prepared to drive me.

Ugh up and packing to drive 4 hours for a wedding. It's storming which I hate and DH thinks we can do this with only 2 pee breaks. Ha! Worse part, we are leaving Coop (dog) for the night which makes me so anxious. bright side is a really good dinner and cake!

@ladybee: Two pee breaks? Clearly, he is in denial. I hope you enjoy your trip and that the weather clears! Coop will be just fine, I'm sure he will be in good hands, but I know how much we worry about our pets!

@dreamcatcher: My hospital is 45 min too. I want to labor at home at first but I think we'll have to go in sooner rather than later so the drive isn't a nightmare.

I just had an exciting / weird thought - soon we will have to start updating the list with BIRTHDAYS!

  36. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

    @daniellemybelle: Ahhh Birthdays!!!!!

@dreamcatcher: My hospital is 20 minutes away without traffic, but I am choosing to go to a further hospital with a birth center. If I have an emergency, there is one literally 7 minutes from my front door, they just have a higher rate of intervention and the rooms aren't as nice. Like @daniellemybelle, I am planning to labor at home as long as I can for my comfort and so I can eat. Everyone tells me I won't care about eating, but I don't think it's right to expect women to have good labors on ice chips, Popsicles, and water.

  39. Sadieloo

@dreamcatcher: our hospital is 30 or so min away without traffic. I'm assuming my labor will be on the longer side and the travel time won't matter much. Like @evansjamie: I am hoping to labor at home as long as possible.

Also- Halloween! Most of us will have LO's in time for Halloween! (Maybe all of us except SweetT?) What are you guys planning? I just ordered her a tie-tie onesie that looks like a candy corn, but I think I might make a baby burrito costume. Still not sure!
