@kjpugs: so with you about Etsy! Love, love, love everything they have there. Thank goodness it wasn't as big when I got married I have yet to buy a Halloween costume or outfit but fully plan on doing it. Apparently our street in Montclair is the street to be on for trick-or-treating. We were told that we'll likely go through 1,000 pieces of candy and are only allowed to give out 1 piece per kid. We don't want to piss off he new neighbors.

We just got the pack and play off of our registry!!!! So excited! Will come back and welcome all our fabulous new mommas and comment to everyone. I've missed you guys this weekend.

Our hospital is at the end of our neighborhood.... worst case i could walk (or waddle) there.
I design and make patterns for a dance recital costume company, so halloween is kind of a big deal here. Our office has a huge pot luck party and costume contest. Depending on when baby arrives Halloween maybe her first day out to meet my coworkers. I found an adorable Sushi onesie that i might try to recreate.
Etsy has seen quite a bit of my money in the last couple weeks. I've been buying fabrics and prints to frame left and right. My current project is a felt hot air balloon mobile that i bought the kit on etsy.

I passed the glucose screening! No diabetes!
In other news, I dreamed last night I gave birth to a blonde boy. I guess the boy thing is still a possibility but there's no way a kid of ours would be blonde, haha! Any one else having super weird dreams about the baby?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@daniellemybelle: Woohoo! Also, I know a family where both of the parents are brown haired/brown eyed and all five of their boys were blond haired and blue eyed. It could happen!
Personally, I'm hoping for a ginger baby. It's a long shot, but my husband's mother is a natural redhead.

Y'all, I had my first cheat on my new diet yesterday, and I am THRILLED to say that my glucose levels were really good after it. I went to Homearama, which is a designer home showcase in town, and we got Wendy's on the way. I had a JBC and a small fry, but got water instead of Coke, and my numbers two hours later were 119 (they like it to be under 120). My husband said that diabetics can eat out, you just have to be smart about it, so I'm glad I was smart. I really wanted that Coke though, it was about 1000* in that development.
Oh, and going into one of the houses, the host asked me to please not go into labor in that house. There was another lady further along than me behind me, and she told her they have everyone starting upstairs, unless she couldn't make it up there. What. a. B****. I wish I could have heard what the woman said to her. I just told her that I wasn't that far along yet in a condescending tone.

i had my first and only baby shower this weekend. it was a blast and my little one is already so spoiled with some handmade goodies and other gear that is all kid-tested and mother-approved! i am the last one in my circle of friends to have a child, so all my attendees imparted some great wisdom and knowledge upon me

Hellloooo Ladies!! I'm back from a very long vacation. I'm trying to catch up on what's been happening on the board.
Shout out to all the ladies that joined while I was gone, excited to see the number of Oct. mommas keep growing.
Thankfully I passed my 1hr glucose test though scheduling that the day after we returned from vacation may have not been the smartest but oh well.
@eisrael: I'm also low in iron, my doctor wants me to fix it through diet first and if I haven't gotten it up by my next appointment, I'll have to add in an iron supplement... what are they having you do to increase your levels?
Just by reading, I feel very behind on preparing for baby... all the nursery, pediatrician talk etc reminded me I need to get a move on. All we've done is clear out a bedroom... hopefully paint will go up this week which we are picking up today, green of course.
Glad to be back but feeling really overwhelmed with how much needs to get done.

@Redmini1: welcome back! If it makes you feel any better, I have yet to get started on the nursery, a pediatrician or any of that fun stuff. We still have a little bit of time
coffee bean / 33 posts
@Redmini1: welcome back! The nurse said for now to just change my diet and not to take supplements yet. I just have no idea other than eating red meat everyday how to get more iron in my body. Thoughts??

@eisrael: dark meat chicken! Which I use as an excuse to eat chinese food
cherry / 163 posts
@eisrael: the doctor sent over a list that I need to look through, I eat a ton of spinach so I was surprised about the iron levels but apparently spinach isn't as a good of a source as I thought.
@kjpugs: good to know about the chicken, I prefer thighs and legs so that will be easy to incorporate.

@SADIELOO: The Aden+Anais BAMBOO Swaddle Blankets are so much silkier and softer than the muslin kind - everybody was oohing and aahing over those. As for "burp rags", I was given cloth diapers. I was told unanimously by all the moms that they are the best for that kind of job. Two good tips I picked up that I thought were pretty ingenious were:
1) Put all of babies small socks in a delicates/lingerie washer bag - keeps them all together. Less chance of losing a sock or two in the wash!
2) Keep a basket/tote by the changing table. When a clothing item is too small or out of season put it in the basket/tote instead of back in the closet or dresser. A good way to keep organized on the the go instead of setting aside a day or two to go through all of baby's clothes.

@REDMINI1 and @EISRAEL: Remember to keep up with your vitamin C intake - it helps our body absorb iron better. Pre-pregnancy I was borderline anemic. Fortunately, during pregnancy I have been able to keep my levels up with focusing on diet and making sure to take my prenatal vitamin everyday.

Hi all! Welcome to all the new ladies! We've been out of town and now we have family coming into town so I've been super busy. Just wanted to say that I passed 3 out of 4 on the 3 hour test so I do not have gestational diabetes!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ladybee: Congratulations!
I wish it was standardized; I also passed 3 out of 4, but in my office that means I failed.

@evansjamie: oh no! My numbers were 75, 136, 123, and 116. The 116 was high, they wanted it under 110.

So, I had a good appointment today. My glucose is well controlled through diet so far (five days in), I've lost a few pounds (she said it was okay; most people do on the diet), and I'm measuring on track. I LOVED this midwife. I really hope she's on call when I go into labor, she was so laid back, nice, and easygoing. Even my husband adored her.
I talked to the midwife, and because my glucose is being well-controlled through diet, they will not induce me unless something changes. That is such a relief, as I really wanted to go naturally and am even okay going past my due date (I'm sure I'll be singing another tune in October). She said my numbers were good except for a couple of slip-ups, but I've been making notations in my notebook when that happens so I don't do it again.

@ladybee: I failed on the second blood draw, so I don't know if that matters or not. Mine were 75, 168, 164, 123 off the top of my head.

Bleh, I am so tired. Which is pathetic since I am off work and sleeping in till 8:30 every day. @KJPugs: Just read your blog, I don't feel "normal" anymore either and I'd really like just one day to feel great again!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@ladybee: awww thanks for reading. Glad I'm not alone. I don't feel HORRIBLE or anything I just feel so off, I really do wonder if I'll ever feel like "me" again!!!

@mrs. mochi: Thanks for sharing all the info and tips! I think the Aden & Anais swaddle blankets are the #1 most recommended item. We've also been told to get cloth diapers as wipes/burp rags. Was there a particular brand that folks recommended? We went to Buy Buy Baby to check them out, but they only had the really thin/potentially non-absorbent ones left. Thanks!
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@kjpugs: that's exactly how I feel. I think overall I feel pretty good, just not normal. Plus we were out of town this weekend which always wipes me out.

@evansjamie: Yay! Excellent news!
@ladybee: Soooo jealous! And I hear you. Although I am gaining the same amount of weight as I did in the second trimester, my body feels much heavier, like I need to stretch all the time. Maybe it's time for a prenatal massage Almost like I've been working out a lot. And @kjpugs: I have a few friends who are due in August and they have all hit a wall in terms. They all look really uncomfortable -- hopefully we'll all feel great-ish up to the end!

@Sadieloo: i really hope we never get to that OMG SO UNCOMFORTABLE phase! I'm dreading it!!

Just called (couldn't wait for THEM to call ME) and I passed the GD testing! I asked and she goes "wow- you passed with flying colors!" I asked and she said 105. Not necessarily worthy of a WOW in my opinion but I'll take it! WOOT!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: That's great news!!!! I too hope that we don't get to the super uncomfortable phase. So far, I'm only really uncomfortable if I overdo it, so I'm working on not doing that so much.
