@daniellemybelle: I'm so worried about our dog too!! He's our little fur baby and will always be our first baby but I think he's in for a whole new world when baby arrives. He's an 8lb shorkie (shitzu/yorkie) mix and runs the house. We just read some books on bringing home baby to the dog and most say have your sig. other bring things home from the hospital, receiving blanket, hat, etc. and let the dog smell it to get used to the smell and put it near things that the dog sees as positive, toys, bed etc. and when baby actually comes home let the dog smell the baby. They say to start spending less time with the dog a few months before you are due but I can't do that...he's my little man!! any other suggestions?

@eisrael: I have the same worries with my THREE! (ps... shorkie!!! too cute!) My pugs are typically VERY good dogs so I'm not super worried, moreso about accidental stuff like their nails, or them chewing a baby item that looks like a toy. I think they'll be great with the baby though, especially the two girls, they're VERY cuddly and maternal.

@evansjamie: Two cats, a dog, baby and DH -- you are going to have your hands full. Beyond playing some baby sounds we haven't done a thing. when we get settled in our new place we may get a doll to play pretend with. I read somewhere that that may help, but it also sounds a little nutty to me.

@kjpugs: 3! Oh my goodness are you going to have your hands full. I think if Kona had another friend it wouldn't be as intense. His favorite activities include barking at the door, barking at the golfers in our backyard, barking at the squirrels and birds, and napping. I'm hoping him and LO learn to nap together and he is so in love with LO his barking falls wayside!
kiwi / 726 posts
@eisrael: Lol! Hilarious! I am so thankful our pooch isn't a big barker. At this point I think she and the LO will be BFF's, especially once he starts eating solid food. She is very food motivated and I am convinced she sees kids and their strollers as snack machines.

@Sadieloo: I'm terrified of next summer. DH travels a lot for work in the summer, since that is prime bat season. He's been able to be home more often this year because of the pregnancy, but still. He'll be GONE. I'm getting the shivers just thinking about it.
He also wanted to add another dog to the mix, and I said NO WAY, not with a baby on the way.
I've been spending less time with Bea over the past few months, but I don't think my husband understands how a baby is going to affect the family dynamic. Baby girl will have to come before the pets. If she's on the couch, Bea can't be. If baby is on our bed, I don't want Bea on our bed, at least at first.

Had to share a pic of our furry baby from today. She loves to sleep with her tongue sticking out

@evansjamie: That is a lot to take on! I totally understand your concerns. I WFH and when we move next month, DH will be out of the house for a min. of 12 hours a day. When I think about how I am going to work full time, take care of the baby (we'll either put the baby in daycare or get a PT nanny), the pooch, the house and all of that it freaks me out! I know people have done it before, but it just seems like a lot and I wish he understood how much pressure is on my shoulders when he'll be napping on the train
We have actually considered getting another dog so Sadie has a playmate but that will have to wait until after the baby comes. I don't think she realizes either that she is going to lose her spot between the two of us on the couch. I am already feeling Mother's guilt about that!

@kjpugs: Sooo cute! Glad to see I'm not the only one who chose their username based on their dog. Our dog's name is Sadie. I already see a future pic of the pugs and your LO all lined up -- it's going to be so stinkin cute!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: we found a photog who is going to do newborn pics and monthly pics for the first year... trust me when I say that the pugs will make MANY appearances! They are (L-R) Sophie, Dixie, and Harley. Dixie is actually a "bugg" aka Boston Terrier x pug.

@Sadieloo: so cute! It's so funny how our pets really are our babies! Kona doesn't normally get "people" food, but I have a feeling when LO starts on solids that Kona will have a BF for life.
@evansjamie: I think it's amazing you are juggling all of this!

@Sadieloo: oh PS if you want to know how obsessed I am, visit my blog (link in my profile) I may or may not have comissioned artwork of them................

@kjpugs: that's awesome! Love that idea!!! I am already thinking for Halloween that we'll have to dress up LO as a baby lion since our dog is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and was bred to hunt lions.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
The only dog thing I'm worried about is that DH works PM shifts, and I can't take my pugs in the fenced backyard at night (when it's dark, the yard is a big L and NOT well lit, and with all the crevices they could get into and bad animals/bugs I cannot manage them out back at night) so I am wondering how I will be able to take them out front on leashes at night. I don't walk them far... baby video monitor with me the whole time if I stay in my front yard? Is that horrible? If she's awake I'll just take her out with me if she likes being carriers but I am stressing about this a little.

@kjpugs: Ah been there and done that. We actually had a pic of her printed to look like a painting. There is a fine line between dog lover and crazy dog person. I've been dancing and/or crossing over it for a LONG time!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: LOL yes I dance that line too. And OMG Rhodesian Ridgebacks are SO rare/gorgeous!!! They're just beautiful, SUPER intelligent dogs!!!! That's awesome!
kiwi / 726 posts
@eisrael: I completely agree with you. I think because our dog will only be 1 1/2 years old when LO is born that they will be BFFs.
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: Great blog! Love the pics of your pooches. Sadie is definitely smart, although I am completely biased. Wouldn't it be fun if we all lived near each other and could have baby and puppy play dates?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: Bea hates the backyard. I've been trying to teach her to at least pee out there. Every time she does she gets half a milkbone, and if she ever does #2 I will sing, dance, clap, and give her two bones.
Maybe I should change my name to reflect my pets? I'm pretty crazy about them. I like 'Beasknees,' and it's better than Titties (which is what we call Autumn...she has big ol' kitty tits, also she's a scaredy cat so my husband calls her his titty baby). Or I could just stick with Evansjamie...decisions, decisions.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: BWAHAHAH!!! That's hilarious!!!
DH's xbox name is pugteatz because our girls came from the puppy mill where they got thrown out (I hate Amish people) and Sophie's were legit dragging the floor. And his friends kept commenting on those "pug teats" and clearly he's mature so he threw a Z down instead of an s, haha.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: If you guys have a Wii and ever see someone named Zookautbea on there, that's my husband. All the animals. When Autumn sits down, her kitty tits cover her feet. You can't even see her paws. They've been huge since she was a kitten. She's got the kitty equivalent of DD's.
About walking with the bebe...I don't know what I'm going to do either about night walks or nap walks. I'm crossing my fingers that she loves babywearing. I need to get a stroller ASAP so I can practice walking Bea with the stroller/carseat also. She likes to pull, so I've got to work on that.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for sharing pics of your gorgeous pets. I could look at that stuff while I procrastinate at work all day!
So we're going to have to get some extra help for our furbaby Parker when the baby arrives. We're going to do the standard -- bring home the blanket and all, but Parker has the LOUDEST bark ever that begins at 5am when the neighbors start walking their dogs before work. It jars us awake and I'm afraid it'll give my poor new DS or DD a nervous twitch. This is a real dilemma for us. How do we get her to chill out and stop that crazy good morning bark to the other dogs on the block?
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@daniellemybelle: in Indiana (and other areas like PA and more of the midwest) they're a huge problem. I can't/won't go into it because it gets me WAY too fired up.
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: maybe you could get one of those movable fences or something to create an enclosed area of the backyard for your dogs to use late at night?
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: OMG, just googled it. Shocking and sad. We need to go save the puppies!
On a happier doggy note, we have been working a lot with our dog to always respond to "Come" the first time. He's 95% there but I feel a lot more comfortable letting him out at night without having my eye on him, because the second I call for him, he comes. KJ, maybe that could help with taking your dogs out?
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: @kjupugs: this is quite possibly the funniest conversation/post I have read on Hellobee!!! I can only imagine what people would think if you changed your name to titties. Although in a few months time, if you're breastfeeding, I am thinking any name referring to titties will be very appropriate. I'm also nervous about walks with the baby and the pooch. I'm hoping he loves the Ergo and my dog doesn't go nuts chasing squirrels in the burbs.
kiwi / 726 posts
@corilyns: I have no idea how to help the barking! Maybe just figure out a way for your pooch not to see the other dogs? I hope Parker instinctively knows to never wake a sleeping baby, or you guys for that matter!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: @daniellemybelle: fence won't work... there is no well lit area and they are very picky about where they go potty. Sometimes if I don't urge them to walk around, they will just stand there looking at me like, "why are you wasting my time?" And re: calling them? HAHAHA. We rescued them as adult dogs, and clearly they had no training in the puppy mills. They'll generally come when I call them enough times, unless there's something really interesting. But they can't do a single trick or anything... sit, down, come, stay, etc. After YEARS of trying. We joke that their only trick is "beg" and not on command, haha.
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: hmmm...maybe just take them out for a quick walk in the front and keep the baby monitor close? Is it terrible to say that?
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: I'm struggling with- what's the difference between being in the front yard, or the master, if she's napping in her crib and I have the monitor in front of me? It's not a big difference right? Plus it's all one floor, I feel like front yard is closer to her crib than if I was downstairs and she was up, right? I dunno if that sounds crazy or not!?
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: You know what, I don't think there's any difference. .Your baby will be totally fine! I'll need to remind myself of this when I have similar concerns while showering and doing who knows what. I hope I'm not too paranoid!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: LOL I know I have thought about the showering thing too. We have a clear curtain (because our little shower area is dark we just use the liner so it's lighter in there) and I decided I'll probably just put her in a swing right where I can see her, haha.
Wait, babies are safe in swings right? Ugh I don't know. I will be asking my pediatrician all of this stuff. Blerg!
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: I hear you! Hopefully we'll all be able to maintain sanity and not be too nervous as first time Mamas.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: I registered for a water wrap that I'd like to use when I shower. Otherwise, I'll probably just put the rock n'play in the bathroom with me. Also, is there any way you guys could put some lights in your back yard? Do you have external plugs you could plug twinkle lights in or something like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-75-Watt-Incandescent-Trouble-Light-with-25-ft-cord-CE-425A/100354519#.UfBxYsu9KK0
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: oo what's a water wrap? Link me!
And no on the lights. The only well lit area is the only area near a plug (by the door) but then it goes off two LONG straight areas in opposite directions. And it's a rental so I'm not doing more than plugging something in.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: Here's the wrap: http://www.wrapsodybaby.com/shop/proddetail.php?prod=water
The light I linked is a utility light with a 25 ft. cord. It's mainly for working on cars, but it might be okay to light the darker areas of your yard.
