@evansjamie: @Jennimac: @Sadieloo: thanks guys. I was somehow able to stay calm which I think was good, and the hospital was AWESOME. Just bought a Boppy pregnancy pillow for sleeping so hopefully that helps with the RLP!

So we interviewed two doulas today and we didn't really like them. This is after calling 9. We have another appointment next weekend and are still waiting to her back from one group on what their different doulas' availabilities are, but I am getting discouraged. It's so much work and I'd rather just not have one than have someone I don't love.

@corilyns: I actually bumped that thread! It was super helpful.

@kjpugs: So glad you and baby girl are okay! That's a really scary thing to happen! I hope you're feeling better soon, friend.

    @ladybee: You look great!

Hey ladies! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Just wanted to share another bit of info from my midwife. I had my 30 wk appt on Friday (I am officially 30 weeks today) and she suggested the website Spinning Babies http://spinningbabies.com/ get the babies and our bodies in optimal positioning for labor and delivery. baby boy is still doing well and I'm measuring a week or so ahead of schedule. Yikes!

I'm officially stalking my registry!!!! I'm getting really excited about the things that are being purchased.

Oh, and I'm in the 3rd trimester!!!!!!

@Jennimac: we have our first shower this weekend and barely anything has been purchased. It's a small one but I'm still disappointed at the lack of enthusiasm. Our next one is pretty big and I know that one will be different.

@Jennimac: I've been stalking my registry too and nobody has purchased anything! My first shower isn't for a couple of weeks though, so there's still time.

@ladybee: Yep, I feel the same way. My first shower is in two weeks and it's my college friends.

@ladybee: @evansjamie: That sucks! Mine is the 10th and I've had about 6 items purchased. I do know we got the pack n play for our house. We were given one to put at the other house and I have it set up...it is really cute. This one is awesome, too--it has a mp3 player and newborn thing. Pretty exciting. Now, I have got to get a place cleared for everything. That's my problem. now.

  16. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@evansjamie: even though I rationally understand I'm still disappointed.

  17. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@ladybee: It's hard. I hope that maybe they will have some awesome gifts for you or the lack of enthusiasm will dissipate and you will have an amazing shower!

  18. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@Jennimac: because I doubt any of them are on HB I feel I can say this - this shower is my family and it hasn't been my moms priority while planning. She was more into my family coming to visit. Plus I'm not very close with my dads family. I'm hoping that since the shower is at 4 people will shop day of?

  19. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@ladybee: I'm trying to be rational about it too. I've done so much research, and it's hard to hear from people (my husband's family) say they are buying us certain things that aren't on the registry or are different (a bassinet instead of a Moses basket/holder) and I'm trying to be gracious and not be aggravated. My SIL refused to look at our registry because she "wouldn't be able to figure out how to do it." I didn't register at Walmart, I registered at other places and my husband told her how to do it online, but she refuses.

  20. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@ladybee: I'll be crossing my fingers that people will do that too! Maybe a lot of them just forgot to tell the store to mark it off the registry!

@evansjamie: Why do people feel the need to comment on everything? Why? Stay strong because I know that you picked out some wonderful stuff!

  21. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@evansjamie: I'm in a similar boat. My mom thinks registering is rude and that I should tell people what to buy. Blah. Hopefully we will both be surprised!

  22. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@ladybee: Why? I think that registering is better than being like, "This is what I want" to someone's face. I mean, you are doing the same thing, but I think it comes off better by registering rather than telling it to someone. I don't understand it.

  23. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@ladybee: Isn't registering essentially telling people what to buy? It's like grocery shopping: You make a list, and you buy the things on the list. You might get something off list, but you usually get all the things on your list.

I knew this would happen precisely because I did not register at Walmart, but it still makes me sad. I really hate Walmart, mainly because of their business practices and they just don't have a huge baby section. I registered at BRU and Amazon because I have lots of out of town family and you can find BRU anywhere except Eastern KY (where my inlaws live; They could go to Huntington/Charleston, but that's still a 1-2 hour drive).

Okay. I'm going to stop moaning about this.

  24. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

    @Jennimac: yeah I don't get it.

  25. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@evansjamie: I think BRU and Amazon are great choices. If there isn't one there then they could order offline!

  26. avivoca

@ladybee: My MIL/FIL aren't what you would call internet savvy. They are super generous, it's just my preference for the things I picked out rather than them just get what's convenient. I'll be super glad for anything they give us. My SIL is more internet savvy, it's just too much trouble for her to do it. I have several choice words I could say about her, but suffice it to say that she is extremely lazy and self-centered.

@Jennimac: So fun! Being Jewish, no showers for us...I'm starting to worry...plus we have a bunch of gaps in our registry...couldn't decide half the stuff we needed (like what kind of waterproof sheets!) Who knew I had so many to choose from?!

Ok ladies, so I am officially a 3rd trimester too as of yesterday!! SOOO excited (and I think I'm starting to get nervous!) But here is a question that maybe one or some of you can answer. My insurance co covers the cost of a breast pump. I'm trying to get the ball rolling and all the numbers they gave me are for medical supply places that basically rent hospital beds, etc. I don't have my BF class until end of August but should I just say forget it and register for one?? I need thoughts...I thought saving $250 was great until I got the run around!

@Jennimac: @ladybee: @evansjamie: I registry stalked with my first! I didn't register for clothes at all buy that's what I got the most of. Out of the people who did purchase from the registry, most either bought their gifts the day of my shower or forgot to have it marked as purchased. I did get several gift cards! Most people at least included a gift receipt so I was able to return things I didn't want/need.

Try not to worry too much! People just like to procrastinate! My mom intentionally waited until the day of to buy gifts and didn't have them marked as purchased because she knew I was checking the registry.

@eisrael: my doctor said they wait till 35 weeks to start that process which is so annoying but I'm waiting like I need to. I think the $250 savings is way worth it!

  31. Sadieloo

@eisrael: I agree with @ladybee. My feeling is worst case scenario I can rent a pump from the hospital, but I'd rather save the $250 and get a free pump. My midwife also suggested that I not pump for the first week or so. I've heard a lot of differing opinions on that - some people say to pump ASAP.

@evansjamie: @Jennimac: @ladybee: Now you have me registry stalking! My showers aren't until late August and early September and not a thing has been purchased yet.

@eisrael: My process was pretty straightforward. I called my insurance company (BCBS) and they gave me the number of the medical supply company through which to order it. When I called, there was an option, "Press 2 for breast pumps." However, there was then an automated message that said I couldn't order it until 30 days out from my due date, so I have to wait and call back.

Just returned from my 30 week growth ultrasound and OB appointment. Baby is right on track and due date won't change. She was very active and liked to stick her tongue out and practice sucking all while playing with her feet!

I just want to say I am jealous of those of you who are getting another routine ultrasound! We only get the anatomy scan. I never thought we would, but I think we might do an elective 3D!

@eisrael: I have to buy mine at a hospital store and luckily our hospital has a lactation store that qualifies. I can get it 1 month before my due date.

I am two weeks away from being done with my masters degree. Two weeks! This is 5 (2 hour long) classes, 2 papers, 1 presentation, 1 assessment administration, 1 "reflection", 2 online discussions and I am DONE! This whole program I have been determined to get straight A's. This semester I COULD NOT CARE LESS! I was just looking at my grades and I could actually get a C because I have not cared! Eeek!

  39. eisrael

Ok, so I have an update...I called my hospital that I'm delivering at, they have a lactation consultant/store there. Since my insurance gave me all numbers for random medical supply I asked them. The medical supplier she gave me I was able to call this morning, give them my insurance card, and process right there. The BP will be at my house by August 22nd...I'm not planning on needing it until November/December but didn't want to deal with the wait. They are sending me the Medela Advanced Double Pump (not that I have any idea of what that is!)
I have another question about classes...hopefully you ladies can help. I signed up for a birth class in early September that DH will come to, a breast feeding class that he'd like to opt out of in mid August...but my question is on child care...this is our first baby...is it worth it to take a child care class or just listen what they tell you at the hospital? Thanks ladies! I feel like I have 1000 random questions!

  40. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@eisrael: Sooo...I probably won't take a child care class. I'll just listen in the hospital. My feeling is that humanity is still very much alive and relatively well, and has been that way for years before they had classes to teach us how to care for babies.
