@eisrael: Like @evansjamie, we're not taking a childcare class. I'm lucky to have my mom very close by for help so I am going to lean on her, as well as get some highly recommended, basic books like the Mayo Clinic Guide to the First Year and Baby 411. I figure that as things happen I can look them up. Between childbirth classes, CPR classes, breastfeeding classes, interviewing doulas and pediatricians... we just don't have room for anything else!

@EVANSJAMIE: I know - can you believe it??? I only have 71 days left!!!

@DANIELLEMYBELLE: Yes, it's nice to have a little peak at bebe again. I believe I'll have another ultrasound (with the portable machine and not a formal appt) around 37 weeks to see baby's positioning again

@EISRAEL @DANIELLEMYBELLE @EVANSJAMIE: I, too, am not taking a childcare class. In fact, my place of care doesn't even provide a childcare class even though they wrote Mayo Clinic Guide to the First Year

@mrs. mochi: I just did the math. I have 66 days left. AHHHHHH.
@eisrael: I am taking a child birth class, and possibly a breastfeeding class even though I'm reading some books about it.
So, my husband and I got in a fight yesterday. He's running low on sleep, so that's probably why he wasn't thinking clearly. Here's the situation: He volunteered to do a mis-netting night for bats for one of his former professors. However, the mammology class won't be studying bats until October. He was supposed to go to our college town (2 hours away) to do this and then drive home, so I wouldn't be alone overnight with a newborn or while I was still pregnant (a friend would stay with me).
I'm trying to be a good wife and not be aggravated, but then he told me yesterday that it might be in September and be a trip to freaking BLACK MOUNTAIN, which is FIVE HOURS AWAY. WTF? Why would that be okay? His reasoning was that I wouldn't be in labor yet because it would be too early. I had to get off the phone, I was driving and driving + crying isn't good. I don't think he understands that labor isn't something you can predict. He thought he'd just be able to be here when it was time and still do this because it would be 2-3 weeks before my due date. Labor and birth is wildly unpredictable. My mom had long labors before doing c-sections, but the women on my dad's side have short labors. Babies have been early and they've been late. There's no telling how this will go down, and he just didn't get it. He was like, "I'll fix it, I'll fix it," but I don't want him to just fix it. I wanted him to understand why this isn't okay, especially because he told his employer that he wouldn't be able to travel more than an hour from Louisville in September, but somehow it's okay to do a mis-net night five hours away that he doesn't have to do? Argh.

@evansjamie: I would be upset also! My hubby is planning on doing a 2 day bike ride very end of September...I want him to ride but am freaking out in case I go early. The bike ride starts about 45 minutes from our house but goes to the Jersey Shore and back again...which RT is like 2 hours driving...never mind being on a bike, having to have the truck pick you up and then getting back to your car. I think sometimes guys just don't get it...and because they aren't actually carrying the baby, they don't understand as much. I tried to explain the whole "what if I go into labor" and "what if there is traffic for you to get to us" deals and it just looks like their eyes glaze over. I don't know much about bats, but can he do it sooner rather than closer to October?

@evansjamie: That sucks - I'm sorry! I would be upset too. I got a little worked up over the possibility of DH going to a conference in late September just in case I delivered early, but thankfully he got out of it. I'm sure your husband could tell how upset you were, though, and that he will try to make it up to you! It's so hard when it feels like they just don't get it, though.

@eisrael: It really depends on the class schedule and temperature. Netting for bats is dependent on temperature; it can't drop below 50 degrees, otherwise it's too cold for bats to fly. So the ideal would be September to early October, which is prime baby season for me (I'm due October 4). I'd love to go to 40 weeks or beyond if needed, but it's true, he's not the one carrying the baby, he doesn't understand that it can happen at any time. I could have an emergency and have to have an emergency section that they can't wait around for five hours for him to get back. Also, cell service is spotty on the drive there (it's reaaaaalllly backwoods Kentucky, close to Virginia)
watermelon / 14467 posts
@daniellemybelle: I hope so. It's the end of the season, so tempers are getting shorter as they try to fit all the work in (they've been having some issues with land-grant access on a pipeline). It is really hard, especially because he's not here to see the look on my face and to talk about it face-to-face rather than over the phone/text. I told him how frustrated I was that no one was taking me/the baby/this major life-altering change into consideration when making these grand plans.

I've got this burning pain at the top (rightish side) of my bump. It started yesterday and has continued through today. I have an appointment with me OB tomorrow at 10:30am but wanted to see if anyone else has this? It is not hot to the touch like @kjpugs. Is this round ligament pain?
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@ladybee: not round ligament pain IMHO- as that seems to be low belly on the sides- it's the ligmaments that basically hold up your belly I believe. Glad you're getting it checked out!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: to lighten the mood, I have to say I thought when you talked bats you meant like, Louisville sluggers. I was for sure that he worked there, HAHA! Ok, so now I realize, DIFFERENT type of bat
And I think bringing DH to a doctor's appointment and asking her about it and having her (well, or him, your OB i mean) explain the realities of that time for you would make him realize. DH somehow doesn't listen when I say stuff but if I have someone else tell him (ex: when I told him to stop giving our dog cheez-its and he didn't, but then our VET said so and now he doesn't) he all of a suddent takes it WAY seriously. Maybe that will help?

@evansjamie: The situation definitely sucks.... Its like they dont have the constant reminder of a ticking time bomb in their body so they think they can just do it all. My husband is supposed to go to two different 3 day training sessions one is in late September the other is over my due date.... his company is looking into other options for the classes but if he doesnt go he might have to wait a whole year to get these certifications. Getting these certifications comes with a sizable pay bump, but at least their only in delaware which is about 2 hours away with traffic.
@eisrael: Is your husband riding in the MS: City to Shore (cherry hill to OC)? This would have been my 6th year riding if i wasnt knocked up.... We usually host a house full of riders and teammates at my inlaws beach house everyone is pressuring us to still go down so they have a place to stay and its like a week before my due date
I had my 30 week appt last night. I absolutely love the doctor i saw last night, it was my 2nd appt with her. I came in with a sheet of questions about how everything will go down at the hospital and she was so patient and answered every single one of them. It really put me at ease and I'm back on my stance of not needing a birth plan because my preferences were either already hospital procedure or things that they would discuss with me before they were happening.

@kjpugs: Everyone thinks that! I should roll with it sometime. I think he knows that I can't go more than an hour from the hospital, but doesn't realize that HE shouldn't be more than an hour from the hospital either. I'll definitely bring it up at the next doctor's appointment that he can go to (probably my 34 week appointment).
@Chillybear: Oh, I hope they can figure something out so he can still get the certifications! My husband was scheduled for training the day of our anatomy ultrasound, but thankfully they were able to reschedule it for him and a few other people.

so reading all these posts about baby daddies not being considerate of timing activities appropriately, it makes me wonder if i'm crazy...
my husband is doing the tough mudder 4 hours away 4.5 weeks before my due date. he was concerned about signing up for it because he's nervous that i could have the baby. well, i convinced him to just do it and have it be his last hurrah for awhile...should i be concerned about this? was this a bad move on my part?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mrs. mochi: I don't think so! My main problem with what was going on was that I wasn't being kept in the loop. A trip to our college town 2 hours away after the baby is born in a place with decent cell service the whole way is/was turning into a much longer trip to the opposite end of the state into an area where cell service is spotty at best. At that rate, he wouldn't be able to come home the same day. The timing of the trip was also morphing to 2-3 weeks before my due date, and another issue I had was that somehow it wasn't okay for his employer to send him traveling more than an hour from Louisville, but it's okay to do this volunteer trip five hours away during the same time frame?
I want him to be able to help, but I don't know if I'm comfortable with him being so far away and the possibility of him not being reachable in case something happens. He is convinced that I won't go into labor before I'm due, but as the August ladies have demonstrated, you can't predict when you'll go into labor or if a medical condition will come up where the baby must be delivered early.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@mrs. mochi: I think the most important thing is that you two are on the same page. That way if you go into labor way early you won't be able to say, "IF ONLY YOU HAD LISTENED TO ME!" If you are cool with the trip, no need to worry! I very much doubt you will have the baby that early.
cherry / 175 posts
@evansjamie and @daniellemybelle: thanks, ladies! i had a moment of "uh oh..." everybody tells me that i'll eat my words later, but i want this baby to be later than early. i'm hoping i'm like my mom. she had both her kids 2 weeks late, but labor went fast (<6 hours and only 3 pushes each time).
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mrs. mochi: I'd love to have a fast labor and go to 42 weeks if needed. I'm all for this baby baking as long as she needs.
In unrelated news: We're getting a new roof!!!!! And the insurance is paying for it!!!!! Cue The Carlton:

@evansjamie: YAY! I know that has been really stressful for you.
Anyone getting fatigued again? In the first trimester, I could not keep my eyes open at my desk everyday. All I wanted to do was sleep. When it went away at about 13 weeks, I was so grateful for the ability to function normally again. Lately, I have been feeling really run-down. I chalked it up to not sleeping well, but I slept really well last night and now I feel like I could collapse again...
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@kjpugs: he basically said that its muscles pulling from the weight of my bump. That if it gets hot to the touch to call but right now no reason for concern. Thanks for asking
cherry / 175 posts
@DANIELLEMYBELLE: Yes to the fatigue! I feel like I'm back to needing a power nap (or two) midday just to make it through. I'm going to attribute it to not being as comfortable in any position when sleeping and having to be back to getting up to use the bathroom at least once or twice a night.

So I'm at my glucose test. I find out my results tomorrow. She had to stick me twice to get my fasting blood. Not fun. I didn't get a choice of drink---just the orange one. It wasn't bad until the last swallow. She told me I didn't have to sit here and wait, but I was like, "where am I going to go for an hour feeling awful?" So I'm chilling here with my phone.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Jennimac: Yeah, where are you going to go? "Excuse me while I go power nap at Wendy's and drool over what I'm going to eat after this test. Then I'll come back."
I hope your numbers are awesome and you don't have to do the 3-hour test.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: now I'm laughing! Thank you for that! That's exactly how I feel! I did have a friend offer to pick me up, but I was like, "I'm totally a grouch right now. How is going somewhere going to help me?"

@Chillybear: I actually wouldn't worry about a 2 hour travel issue- maybe it's just because DH and I live in a city where everyone has crazy commutes, but if there's traffic it could easily take DH two hours to get from work to our hospital (hell, if it rains and there's an accident, it could easily take 2 hours to get from our home to our hospital...) As long as there is a reliable means of getting in touch with your DH, I'd be cool with him going to training.
@evansjamie: I would be SUPREMELY uncool with a trip 5 hours away with spotty cell access.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Lozza: Yeah. I had to get off the phone when he told me that. It snows in the mountains in October sometimes. I'm still a bit peeved about it, and if anyone tries to convince me otherwise, the mommabear in me is going to come out and it won't be pretty.
pomegranate / 3032 posts
@Lozza: Thats what i told him. I would just hate for him to get half way through the session and not be able to complete it because i go into labor. But it is what it is. I think he's doing the first session in september and waiting on the one that falls on my due date. I'm more concerned that i'll be on my own for 3 days at a time super pregnant, but i'm sure if i asked my mom would come stay with me
pomelo / 5073 posts
My DH works 2.5 hours away, so if I go into labor before he is on vacation, he will have to drive in from work. He is starting to stress about it, but I told him there is not too much we can do right now. Hopefully, as our appointments get closer and closer to due date, we will have a better idea of when baby might be arriving.

@ladybee: you got the B-Safe and B-Agile in kiwi right? My FIL wanted to buy our "stroller and carseat" but accidentally (I guess?) bought our convertible carseat, and then emailed us asking "is this the stroller you wanted?" we said yes but... how about in Kiwi! (since the site he found it on is cheaper than BBB.) So I got all excited, I THINK that means he's buying it, which would mean we just have to get the infant car seat in kiwi. Easy right? WRONG. That site he found the stroller on doesn't have the B-Safe in kiwi!!! And BBB is SOLD OUT ONLINE. Not sure what to do! Where did you get yours?

@evansjamie: Stupid doctors office is not in today, so I won't get results until Monday! If I have to take three hour test, then I can only do it on Tuesday before I have to go back to work.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Jennimac: My fingers and toes are crossed! It's such a pain. My office made me wait a week between tests, but I know that's not standard.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: what's really frustrating is the lab girl was like, "oh they will let you AsAP because you will need to test again or go on medicine." Well apparently not if they are taking the day off.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Jennimac: I would think that the on-call doctor would be able to pull up your results and look at them. That's what happened with me. BUT, my practice only has hours from 8:00-1:45 on Friday, so I don't know how that would have worked if I called after that for my results.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: they are open til 4 but I'll just be patient and wait til Monday. Not much difference it will make then. I'm just not very patient right now.
