@MrsMed: much better today... I wanna say that dehydration may have played a role as we had salty chinese food the night before and i hadnt had much water to drink in the morning. It was just worrisome that they were all in a row in a very short time frame with little time between them. I'll def be bring it up at my next appt on thursday

@Sadieloo: I feel fantabulous right now. The new bed is a LIFE CHANGER. A queen (upgraded from a full) pillowtop w/firm foundation set. I'm not hobbling out of bed anymore and it is amazing.
@Chillybear: I'm glad you are feeling better today!

@evansjamie: So glad you are feeling and presumably sleeping better. A good mattress makes all the difference in the world, right?

@Redmini1: I work at a medical center with physicians and researchers. I have been told over and over that marketing oils, creams and potions to PREVENT stretch marks is a bit ridiculous because it is all about your genetics. I am extremely lucky and grateful that at nearly 34 weeks I don't have a stretch mark, but that doesn't mean I don't use Mama Bee's Body Oil. I don't really use to prevent stretch marks per se, but it's a good way to keep my skin moisturized and nice for DH to give me a nice belly rub and bond with baby while she's in utero
As for Strivectin and similar treatments for stretch marks, make sure they are safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding!

Had my 32 week appointment on Friday. Is anyone else as bored as I am by these appointments? I have no questions or concerns. We're in and out in 15 minutes. Oh well... Guess no big news is better than bad news.

@kjpugs: Yep, my swab is next Tuesday. Also the day I need to have my birth plan done and signed by an Indiana pediatrician O_o.
Holy crap.
Also, I totally had a pregnant meltdown this morning. I've been struggling with feelings of rejection lately. Rationally, I KNOW my husband loves me and finds me attractive. He's just not comfortable being intimate right now, and I get that. But this morning I was laying there listening to him cuddle with the dog and kiss her head and it made me so mad and sad and feel rejected again, so I got up to make my egg sandwich and I forgot to turn on the stove. Forgetting to turn on the stove sent me into tears and I felt so inferior. I hated having to tell him that I don't like it when he does that and it makes me sad because he wasn't cuddling with ME and I remembered when he used to cuddle with me in the mornings. Talk about crazy pregnancy hormones. I know I'm more important to him than the dog.
I can't wait to feel normal again. The crying and over emotionalism is really getting to me.

@kjpugs: @evansjamie: Wait, they swab your butt!? I thought it was just your vag. Awesome. I really hope I am negative for GBS though - I don't want an IV!
I feel like we are finally making some progress. My MIL gave us a check to order the crib & mattress, plus there'll be plenty leftover for other nursery items. We are going to paint (finally) this weekend. Shower is in two weeks! I'm ready to get ready for our little girl. I wish I could just quit work and do that full-time! And nap.
@evansjamie: I totally know the feeling. My husband has always cuddled the dog more than me, sadly, but I am ultra sensitive about it now. Even though he is definitely affectionate with me too, it's never in the "grown up way" anymore. I've resigned myself to many more months of that, since I'm sure neither of us will be feeling very grown-up after the baby, ifyouknowwhatImean!

@daniellemybelle: @evansjamie: I am right there with you as well. We've been so busy with the house, work and such and have been so tired. The romantic side of our life has definitely taken a beating. It makes me nervous for when the baby is actually here. I just want to make sure that we balance prioritizing the baby, ourselves as individuals and a couple and whatever else we need to balance (I can't think right now).

@daniellemybelle: @Sadieloo: @Redmini1: It makes me feel better knowing that others are missing out on grown-up affection, even though I wish all of us were getting it. I guess it's because I don't feel so alone. He's been making an effort to go to bed when I do, hug me more, and he's listened when I said that the dog can't sleep in the bed with us.
@Sadieloo: I meant to say earlier that I'm glad you are all moved in!
@Redmini1: My mom keeps telling me that lotion will prevent the stretch marks, but I just don't see it happening. I use it anyway. My belly gets itchy. Also...I got a view of my undercarriage the other day and the stretch marks are so. much. worse. than I thought. I'm proud of my tiger stripes, but at the same time, I am going to be glad when/if they fade.

Here is the Postpartum Worksheet I promised last week!
* Two good mottos to live by:
1) People before things.
2) Housework is a cinch, provided your standards are low enough.
* What household chores can you temporarily eliminate?
* Who will do the following? (friend, partner, mom, hired help?)
1) Change the baby
2) Feed baby
3) Grocery shop
4) Make dinner
5) Dishes
6) Laundry
7) Vacuum
8) Clean bathrooms
9) Pay bills
* Who could watch the baby for you when you go out? (List 3)
* Name 2 people you can call for advice and help.
* Name three things you will do for yourselves in the first six weeks.
* What current commitments/responsibilities can you temporarily eliminate? (3 for mother and 3 for partner)
* Plan 3 enjoyable things you will do together as a couple in the first 3 weeks. (Next to each idea put a date by which you plan to do it and someone who you can call to help you out).
* What hour of the day would be best to communicate and share with your spouse?
* List a 3 resources that will help you become informed about the realities of parenthood.
* Name 2 couples who have children with whom you would like to become better acquainted.
* What hour of the day would you like to set aside for time for yourself?

@mrs. mochi: Thank you for sharing! I need to print that out and go over it with my husband.
I think I've figured out my mantra for labor. I'm shooting for an unmedicated childbirth. In my childbirth class, we had to do contraction math for homework. The average labor for a first time mother is 18 hours, and through the math, we found out that the average amount of time you spend contracting is 3 hours, 36 minutes, 36 seconds (we have a few engineers in our class). So, my mantra is going to be..."You can do anything for 90 seconds."
It's similar to my mantra at the end of long races or training runs, when I've gotten to the point where running is painful. For my last long race (Downtown Doubler 30k, or 18.6 miles), after 14 miles it helped me to concentrate on the next 1/4 mile, so my mantra was "You can run a quarter mile." For my last half-marathon, I was struggling in the last mile, so I kept telling myself that I could do anything for 10 minutes.
Naturally, I'm hoping to have a shorter labor, but I'm preparing for a long haul, especially because my mom had long labors before they did her c-sections (24 hours and 22 hours, respectively).

@evansjamie: I just used the yhl method to make our crib skirt! It was soooo easy.

@evansjamie: Thanks! The fabric was backordered for about forever. When it got here I was so relieved since we have maternity pics this week and the photog wants to take some pics in her room
Just curious, why do you need an Indiana ped to sign off on your birth plan? You're in KY right? Is your birth center here in IN? I'm in Indianapolis, so not right across the river but not too far away from you!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@AprilK: Yes, I live in Louisville but I'm delivering right across the river. KY peds don't have privileges at the Indiana hospitals, so I need to have one to check out the baby and one in Louisville to be my regular doctor. I could just have the on-call pediatrician do it since I'm not refusing any of the normal protocols.
apricot / 391 posts
@evansjamie: Ah got it. My son was early and in the nicu so his actual ped didn't see him while he was in the hospital. We worked only with the attendings from Children's Memorial (this was in Chicago). So even though this one is my second kiddo I'm hazy on how the pediatrician thing even works for a normal birth & hospital stay - hopefully I make it far enough to find out this time!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@AprilK: May I ask where you got that fabric? I know I've seen it before and that the designer has other color ways, I just can't remember the name.
apricot / 391 posts
@evansjamie: It's Caitlin Wilson Textiles - a bit pricey but I only needed a yard for the crib skirt, and I based the whole nursery design around it (navy, pink and teal) and couldn't help splurging a bit since I fell in love with it hard. They actually sent closer to two yards though, maybe they felt bad about the backorder

@APRILK: I have the same crib as you except mine is all white! I also plan on doing the YHL skirt
apricot / 391 posts
@mrs. mochi: FYI - I thought I'd need to hot glue the velcro to the fabric, b.c there is fabric velcro that you can iron-on and self adhesive velcro with sticky stuff, which I didn't think would work on fabric. So I wasn't sure what to get since I was velcroing fabric to the metal of the mattress shelf thing. I was really close to getting both kinds and using the iron-on part on the fabric and self adhesive on the metal. But the self adhesive velcro stuck really well to the fabric with no problem, so no hot glue required.

@AprilK: Thanks! I love her fabrics and pillows! I'm thinking about picking up a yard to make my own pillow covers for my couch.

@evansjamie: Popping in from the Sept board. We have the same idea, I'm actually super thankful that I took up running in the last 3 years because I pushed my body in ways I didn't think was possible in 2010 and I think labor will be the same way. My first 1/2 marathon HURT, the entire thing, I didn't think there was anyway I'd finish but I did and although I swore off 1/2's after that one I've ran 2 since and neither was as bad as the first. We can do this!

@kjpugs: HIII! I know we've had some people joke that labor day would be perfect! I'm officially in the wait and see stage babe is welcome at any time!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@jetsa: Yay thanks for popping in! I feel like we have the same story: I ran competitively in high school, then took a long break and picked it back up three years ago. My first half-marathon hurt so bad, but the ones since then haven't been nearly as bad (with the exception of dealing with chaffing from miles 9-13 of the KDF mini). We can definitely do this!
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: @jetsa: Love the running metaphors! Lately I've been feeling super tired (both sleepy tired and physically tired) and am wondering how in the world I'll be able to handle labor and delivery. I think it's about time to really put my feet up and take it easy. I hope my hubs is ready for that!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@Sadieloo: yes definitely do it now! I didn't and then got put on partial bedrest because my BP went up. I hate to think I could have prevented it but you never know. Also running metaphors are going to be the thing to get me through labor LOL

@jetsa: Really? Yikes! I definitely think I've been pushing myself a bit too much (at least according to my often swollen feet and hands). Fortunately at my last appointment, my blood pressure was nice and low 100/58 and my midwife didn't see any swelling. That said, I know I need to slow it down.

@Sadieloo: wow. I don't think I've ever seen a 58 but its something to be cautious of.

@jetsa: Yeah. I generally have low-ish blood pressure and its definitely been lower since getting pregnant. I also have Hashimoto's (hypothyroidism) which may have something to do with it. Needless to say, my midwife didn't seem concerned at all so I guess all is well!
