@Chillybear: My mom takes LO to doctor's appointments all the time, it's never been an issue. You might want to ask your pediatrician if there's something you need to sign in order to give designated relatives the authority to make medical decisions for your LO, but no one has ever questioned it at my pediatrician.
Both DH and I have long commutes, and we chose a daycare close to home so that we can split drop off and pick up. When LO first started daycare, our current place didn't have a spot and LO went to a daycare near DH's office, which is a nightmare for me to drive to. Also, if you ever work from home, or if you're home sick but LO is ok to go to daycare, it's a big-ass pain to have to drive a ton to drop them off and pick them up when you wouldn't have otherwise gone out there- much nicer to be closer to home

HI Ladies, I've been MIA --we moved with two weeks notice and ended up in a great house in a new neighborhood where people are so friendly -- they actually say "Good morning" and make eye contact when we walk our doggie. It's glorious! So, after all the drama, it all worked out. But that's why I haven't been around much.

    Congrats on the homestretch everyone!

And @Sweet T: You and baby hang in there, you're in my thoughts.

PS -- what week do we get the swab? I'm coming on my 35 week appointment.

@chillybear: I'm in agreement with @evansjamie: go with the spot that you have now and you can always switch later. Apparently I missed the memo, that all you guys received that I should have gotten on daycare waiting lists a loooonnnnggg time ago. I think we may have to rely on a nanny for awhile.

Hey ladies! So here are some pics (not so great) of our very much work in progress nursery. On the good side we have a place for baby boy to sleep, poop and keep him warm. The decorations on the other hand need some help! A friend is also giving us her blue giraffe bumper and blanket. I'm not too into themes and am thinking we'll just decorate with family pics and other things, especially since our families are 2-4 hours away.

@evansjamie: Thanks! We really lucked out with the hardwoods. The house we bought is from 1925 and all the wood was in really great shape, even the trim that we painted white (sorry purists).

@Sadieloo: I'm a fan of white trim. I hoped there would be hardwood hiding under our carpet, but all we got was plywood subfloor. Womp womp.

The last two weeks have been so busy! I hate that I haven't had time or the energy to post much. Our baby shower was AMAZING! My mother-in-law and sister-in-law did an awesome job and DH worked his butt off getting things ready. So far we are just taking this week slow and laying low since we are both beyond tired. Our anniversary is today but we aren't celebrating till this weekend.

@Sadieloo: Looks great! I also really like the white trim.

@evansjamie: your swing is so cute! we are limited on space as well and it was hard picking out gear because of it. People would recommend things and I'd think, "um where am I supposed to put that?"

    @Jennimac: you look great!!

Updating: I had my last diagnostic ultrasound today. Unless the doctor decides differently, I won't have to go back. Yippee! The baby was measuring 35 weeks 6 days (I'm 34 weeks 1 day) and over 6 pounds. Plus, his head has moved downward. Everything's looking great!

@evansjamie: @Sadieloo: @Lozza: Thanks for the thoughtful responses... after talking to the hubs last night. We're going to go with Option B. I'm not taking myself off the waiting list at Option A, so that if a spot opens and were not satisfied with Option B we can switch. But i think it will work out ok. I'm dropping off my deposit today.

This past weekend we finally made significant progress on the nursery. My parents came up with the crib and mattress. Hubs and my dad painted and built the crib, while my mom cleaned. Sorry for the iphone pics and they look dark because i took them this morning before the sun was fully up. All thats really left to do is hang art and the mobiles. Once we have a shower, i'm sure there will be a lot more laundry and reorganizing.

I'm feeling a little pregnant ragey this morning. My low back is killing me, I know it's my chair at work causing it but they won't buy me a new one until this one falls apart. We also received a wedding invitation from my 19 year old aunt and it's really bothering me. A) Nobody likes her fiance (my dad actually hates him; she lived with my parents for 4 years), B) The wedding is three days before Christmas in Minnesota, and C) This invitation is tacky. There's no proper RSVP card, just something smaller than a business card on computer paper without a reply envelope or stamp.

We can't go, and I know it's going to cause some major drama, but I included a note saying that both my doctor and pediatrician recommended not traveling that far during flu season, especially because baby girl will be too young to be vaccinated. Plus, I am not up for driving 15+ hours each way with a 3 month old, flights would be super expensive, and hotels at that time of year are out of control. Ugh. Maybe I should just hide from my family until after she's born.

On the plus side, I go back to the chiropractor today and my boss is out of the office!

I'm pretty Debbie Downer this week, y'all. On the heels of my last trip to the midwife, I now have the most painful tailbone in the history of the universe. At first I thought it was just normal pregnancy stuff so I have tried hot baths, ice, yoga, etc. I also went to the chiropractor twice. The adjustments of my coccyx may have been the most painful moments of my life. She kept saying she's never seen this much inflammation on someone who hasn't been in an accident or had a fall.

Now I'm pretty sure it's not my tailbone, and actually some sort of cyst or growth on my butt. There is a large, hard bump where all the pain is radiating from. So I'm going to the nurse practitioner at my midwife's office today to see what they say. I'm so done being in pain. I can't sit, I can't sleep. It sucks that my shower is this weekend and all I can think about is, how will I be pleasant for that long?

@MrsMed: Congrats on the house! It looks like you may have fallen off the due date list... add yourself!

@Sadieloo: Looks great! I really like the rug.

@Chillybear: Your room looks awesome! I love that dresser - similar to what we did on one wall of our LO's room. Can't wait until it's all together!

@daniellemybelle: I'm so sorry you are in this much pain! I hope the NP can figure out what's going on, and if it is a cyst I hope they can drain it or something to give you some relief. Could you get a donut pillow to help when you are sitting? Also, I saw your accent wall on Instagram and it looks fabulous!

Thanks @evansjamie: @ladybee: for the vote of confidence on the white trim. We had quite a few people trying to tell us not to do it. I just think it really brightens up and freshens the house. And @daniellemybelle: and @chillybear:!
    @TFrances: great news!

@Chillybear: I love your nursery!!! It's inspiring me. What glider did you get?

@evansjamie: 19 years old and getting married already? Can you use the excuse that you only go to weddings where you think the marriage will last. Kidding. Young marriages and those to jerks do work out. Although a friend of mine really did make that his rule for his wedding attendance. We would only go if he thought the marriage would last 5+ years. at least you have a great excuse, what is best for your baby girl and your family. If your Aunt can't understand then that's her problem.

@daniellemybelle: so sorry to hear about your tailbone/cyst thing. That sounds super painful. I ope you can figure out what it is and how to alleviate the pain soon!

@Mrsmed: congrats on the house! We bought and moved into our house last month. Home ownership is no joke but its awesome to have space to know where you will raise your family.

And woah - sorry for the novel ladies!

@Sadieloo: Rationally, I know that young marriages do work out, my cousin and her husband married at 18 and 21, I got married when we were 21 and 23. My mom is really afraid that he's taking advantage of her, as she came into quite a bit of money when she turned 18. My dad just plain doesn't like/trust him. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm just tired of dealing with family drama.

@daniellemybelle: hi! I'm doing okay. I'm getting a little stir crazy but that's too be expected. I'm still leaking but not as much as I was in the beginning. The fluid has been pink since last night but the nurses have told me it's normal. Everything else looks good and things have been uneventful other than that. 32w1d today!

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers!!

@evansjamie: oh boy! That def sounds sketchy. I have a bunch of relatives that got married young as well. Having lived in and now outside NYC we are just slower with everything.

Speaking of weddings, one of my best friends just announced she is getting married two weeks after I am due. I really, really want to go to her wedding. It will be 2 or so hours away. Am I crazy for even considering it?

    @Sweet T: Woohoo! Congrats on 32+1!

@Sadieloo: I guess it would depend on how you feel, how soon after delivery you were, and what type of delivery you had. I don't think I'd be able to do it. I have a hard enough time being in the car that long when I'm not pregnant. I can imagine that your nether regions would be a bit sore regardless, and if you had a c-section, the seat belt might irritate your incision.

@daniellemybelle: I had a cyst located near my tailbone in college. I thought I had just drunkenly fallen or something because the cyst came out of nowhere. It was called a Pilonidal Cyst. Just so you know if that's what it is... The docs just drained it for me and it felt so much better. I did eventually have a minor surgery to remove it b/c it had a high % rate of returning but I've been fine ever since. I know how you feel though... It hurts so bad!!!

@Sadieloo: @Chillybear: AMAZING nurseries!! I agree on the white trim- I HATE wood trim, but love wood floors! And that pink dresser is amazing!!!

@daniellemybelle: oh my goodness- I hope you get it figured out, that sounds so painful. I had a boyfriend once who had a cyst pop up like that on his tailbone area.

@evansjamie: 19 and getting married to someone family doesn't like? Sounds like a GREAT idea! Who CARES if they have drama over you not going, it sounds like it's almost nice that you don't have to go.

@Sweet T: YAY 32+1! Less than two weeks til 34!!! Thinking of you

I'm so jealous of all of you guys and your nurseries. We did get OUR room set up 100%- we have the glider, PNP, and a foldable changing station we got at ikea all set up. We're almost ready to finish moving around the nursery but DH has to paint the damn dresser so I can wash everything and put it in the drawers! And a few things to get cleared out of there too still that were stored in there. I just have no energy to do so... and trying to rely on DH to do it is like pulling teeth!!!

  26. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@kjpugs: Yes, I hear you on getting DH motivated. It took him three weeks to hang the blinds I purchased. THREE WEEKS. It takes maybe 15 minutes. I would have done it myself, but I get yelled at every time I try to stand on a chair. Stuff needs to get done. I only care about the drama because I know I'm going to hear about it for the next 10+ years. My mom is still talking about how I cried on my 10th birthday because she thinks I didn't like the gift she gave me (a crocheted blanket), when in reality I was crying because I thought I wasn't getting ANY presents.

@kjpugs: I understand about the job, I'm just coming from your perspective and the thought that baby will be here in X amount of days and s*** needs to get done. I had a field day trying to get my husband to get that through his skull when he came back from his summer of traveling. I told him that just because he gets a day off work doesn't mean he gets a day off of life. I think it feels more immediate to us because we are the ones actually growing, changing, and feeling 24/7.

@kjpugs: Go for it! I'd love to be able to just relax when I get home from work, but there's prep work to be done and working full time means it needs to be done at night/on the weekend.

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@kjpugs: If stealing the keys doesnt work you can try the remote or video game controller. I called my dad in for reinforcements, he and my hubs get along well enough but nothing like that FIL pressure to get a fire lit.

@Sweet T: Congrats! 13 days and counting right?

@Sadieloo: We lucked out on the glider my mom's manager at work was was getting rid of it and all we had to do was pick it up but its this one... http://www.montedesign.net/modern_nursery_glider.html#.Uih4BYWBjek... I was pretty floored when she sent me the link.

@evansjamie: Thats a very long trip for a very little baby for you to attend a wedding. I would bow out and stick to your guns on that one. Esp so close to the holidays. I'm sure that money could go to many more important things

  33. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@Redmini1: I'm nearly positive that's exactly what I have! Here's to hoping it's a quick and easy fix! You're right that it is SO painful.

@Sadieloo: If the baby is a little early or on time, and you both are doing totally great, I could see you swinging it. I understand the desire to be there even though I am sure the trip will not be easy. I would play it by ear and not put pressure on yourself... who knows how you will feel after LO gets here!

Speaking of traveling post baby, what are your holiday plans? LO is due Oct 15 so depending on when she gets here, she will be about 1 month old for Thanksgiving. We are going to try to travel to DH's family in Chicago (about 7 hours by car but we might fly). I'm not crazy about the idea but we do want everyone to meet the baby, and I don't want to go up there for Christmas, so it's a compromise.

  34. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@daniellemybelle: We're trying to host a sip and see for family the weekend of Thanksgiving, and then we may travel to my inlaws house (4.5-5 hours away) for Christmas. I'm passing on a wedding three days before Christmas because it's in Minnesota.

  35. Redmini1

    cherry / 163 posts

@daniellemybelle: and @Evansjamie: We put it out there that people are welcome to come to us but we aren't going anywhere. My family lives close by so that part is ok but DH's live in Oregon and overseas so we won't see them for this holiday season. I actually wouldn't mind some time for just the 4 of us (including the dog) to celebrate. I realize that's selfish but I think it would be nice to just for us to be together.

  36. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Redmini1: I wouldn't mind that either. I don't know if we will end up going to my inlaws for Christmas, especially if my MIL won't bend to my no smoking around the baby mandate. We aren't doing much traveling at all.

  37. mrs. mochi

    cherry / 175 posts

@EVANSJAMIE: Not too add fuel to the fire regarding your MIL's smoking habits, but I couldn't help but think of you and your post from several weeks about your concerns about the smoking. Our prenatal instructor as well as breastfeeding instructor both brought up that if you are smoking or if the careprovider is a smoker, just going outside and smoking is not good enough - they should change their clothes...has anybody else heard of this?

  38. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@mrs. mochi: I have heard this! That's one of the reasons my mom always puts on a jacket when she's smoking and washes her hands when she's done. Her clothes rarely smell like smoke (she smokes outside). At my inlaws, the smoke is just impregnated in everything they have. I'm really worried about it, but my husband just refuses to say anything to her.

  39. mrs. mochi

    cherry / 175 posts

@EVANSJAMIE: Smoking jacket! Yes, I've heard of this referred to as "third-hand smoke", but really you don't have to be worried about it getting into the lungs or respiratory tract but more so it being an irritant to the eyes and nasal passageways. Perhaps, you can get your inlaws some smoking jackets to wear...?

  40. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@mrs. mochi: Well, it's just my MIL, and she'd pretty much never have to change out of it because she smokes a lot and smokes in the house. I could suggest it, especially when she visits us.
