@daniellemybelle: Maybe. I'm floundering here. I always hope that since the towel will be touching a clean baby that I wouldn't need a new one daily (I certainly don't change my towel daily). But I also don't poop on my towel, and I know that babies might. I'd go with your gut feeling.

Also, I have no idea where these towels came from. Some were hand-me-downs, and some I didn't recognize the brand. I'm just going to keep them. Who knows, maybe the little miss will want a towel for her baby doll and I'll have one on hand.

We got 3-4 towels as hand me downs and 2 at our shower. i think i'm set on towels.

But my baby has no pants! we got lots of onesies and tshirts but no bottoms.... do i go buy her some pants? babylegs? i have no idea.

The whole baby clothing thing has me baffled, between sizing, layering, sleeper vs outfits i have no idea what i need and what to buy.... Also are footy sleepers appropriate daycare outfits at 3-4 months?

@Chillybear: I hope footy sleepers are appropriate, because that's what I have the most of and it's going to be January. I also don't have a lot of baby bottoms. Should I purchase leggings? Baby legs? People gave us lots of onesies, but nothing to go with them. I think I have three pairs of leggings. Maybe I'll pick some more up this weekend.

@Chillybear: @evansjamie: Tooootally stalking over from the November board, but I couldn't help but comment on the sleepers... Seriously, Sleep n' Plays are like, ALL I have for baby clothes! I just commented on another thread that I have about 8 in NB and 10 in 3 month sizes and...that's about it. I'm trying to justify it by saying it'll be a loooong freezing (more than likely BELOW freezing) winter up here, so it's not like I'll be going anywhere!

@evansjamie: It is scary! Hopefully all our kids will get scholarships and/or love state schools. I've also thought about getting a PT job at a University. Maybe I could be a professor in practice at some point... And I agree, I'm a little bummed to not have any more ultrasounds but I guess no news is good news!

@MrsMed: Hang in there -- you have a lot going on! I'll keep you and baby in my thoughts and prayers and hope that she turns. Did all of this info come as a result of your ultrasound or did you have an idea that this would be the case?

@ms.janedoe: @evansjamie: I seriously have not bought this kid any clothes at all - a 3pack of Flyers onesies back in february since hubs is such a hockey fan... I really thought "oh who doesnt love buying baby girl clothes, we'll get a ton at the shower." yeah my family actually stuck to my registry.... its crazy

@evansjamie: @Chillybear: @daniellemybelle: You gals are so ahead of me. I couldn't tell you how much we have of anything, just that there's a lot of it and baby won't be naked. Is there an idiots guide to everything a baby needs? Or as first timers are we just being a little more crazy. I just don't want to end up with a ton of stuff that we don't need. Fortunately there's a target not too far from here and I suppose we'll figure out what we need more/less of very quickly.

@Chillybear: I'm actually surprised that we didn't get more clothes! I didn't register for any since at every other baby shower there were tons of clothes as gifts. I guess my baby is going to be naked. I'm going to get some sleepers too, but hopefully I have enough for right now.

Thanks Ladies for all the kind words. I really appreciate it. It's so great to have you guys here.

@kjpugs: Thanks for sending me to your blog. Now I have a clue.

And has anyone started on their frozen meals yet? I was going to try to begin on Sunday.

And where do you get nursing tanks that are affordable? I bought one from Isabella Oliver and it was pricey. So I'd like to get more practical ones. Suggestions welcome!

@MrsMed: Nope. I need to get on that. I need to at least make some soups. We are so bad about stuff in the freezer. Maybe I can make a lasagna to freeze too?

@MrsMed: I haven't started on my freezer meals yet. I haven't bought any nursing tanks yet. I should probably get on that!

Anyone have delicious recipes or ideas to share? I am thinking chili, lasagna/stuffed shells, maybe enchilidas. That's about as far as I've gotten.

Anyone got a good hospital packing list? I'm trying and failing to remember what I took the first time, although I absolutely know I didn't use half of it.

@MrsMed: I went to Target and Kohl's to pick up some nursing tanks reasonably priced (~$10-20 depending on store). Also the Target near me had nursing bras on sale last week so I picked up a few there too.

The last two days the high here has been 95*. Baby has pretty much stopped moving. I'm no wheres near 10 kicks in an hour. I don't know if I even get 5 every hour. I'm trying not to freak out but now I'm getting anxious. We have a doppler and I know his heartbeat is fine but should I call my doctor tomorrow if it continues? I feel stupid but the last two days I've been swollen, baby has slowed down, and I've had minor cramping. I'm thinking it's the heat but I'm still nervous.

ETA: I work without air conditioning but I took a half day yesterday and today so I only worked from 1:10-4:00.

@ladybee: I would definitely call if you are concerned. I do know that my babe has periods with very little movement, but she is predictably active at other times of day.

@ladybee: call! At this point, I'd rather feel stupid and paranoid for going in than to not go in. I felt so stupid going in and then realizing I just peed on myself, but it was better than the alternative.

@evansjamie: @Jennimac: of course now that I'm home and cooled down baby bug is all over the place! It was like once I hit submit on my post he started dancing.

@MrsMed: I'm pretty sure we are going to have a c section. LO is still breech at 34 weeks and I have a short torso. Dr said I have a 40 % chance of her turning. I'm not too upset because a vaginal birth does have some negative memories for me.

As for us, we have 3 towels at each house. Hopefully, that will be enough for us. We have received a lot of clothes from gifts and hand-me-downs. I jokingly told DH that baby will have a timer to tell us when to change her clothes. We are still looking for day care, so hopefully we can find something soon. LO had some outfits, but she mostly will have sleepers, etc.

Random question- is a NST only done if you have issues? Or is it standard at a certain point? I could wait to ask on Friday but I'm curious!

  25. Sweet T

@kjpugs: I never had them with DS1. I think it varies though. Some practices do them as a precaution once you get to the end.

  26. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@kjpugs: is that the stress test? My OB only does it at your 40 week appointment unless there is an issue.

  27. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@kjpugs: I think they are only done if there are issues, like bp or a decrease in movement.

@Jennimac: Another November creeper over here At my Target, they're in the regular underwear section, mine are on the same isle as the stockings would be. I walked past them a dozen times because they look like regular bras, just with an extra clip. How many tanks are you planning on getting pre-baby? I bought one sleep nursing bra, just to have something for in the hospital but I feel like my boobs are going to grow once my milk comes in so I don't want to overstock!

  29. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@Jennimac: @MrsTiz: Yep my bff said not to buy any bras before babe because of this. She said buy a few tanks and buy nursing bras when your milk comes in. I bought 2 tanks and 3 cheap bras from Walmart and figure if I have to toss it all it was cheap enough thats okay.

  30. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@kjpugs: I think its only if you have issues, I had none before my BP went wonky.

  31. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@kjpugs: I have no idea. I don't know what the policy is at my practice. I don't get cervical checks or anything. The midwives are pretty hands off, just measuring my belly, doing the Doppler, asking about movement, and answering any questions we have.

Has anyone noticed a change in movement? I'm not getting as strong of movements. She's still moving plenty, but I guess as she's running out of room that the movement won't be as strong.

@MrsTiz: I don't know how many tanks I'll get. I have several that were loaned to me by a friend, but I don't want to wear them at first when I'm going to be a huge leaky mess because I have to give them back to her. I'm not sure about bras either. My boobs haven't grown much, but my rib cage has expanded, so I might just get a nursing sleep bra or two for now and then get fancier ones when my size evens out.

@Mrs. Yoyo: We hadn't packed at all when my water broke (10 days early) w/ DS, so we way overpacked that time
(We brought little battery-operated candle things because someone in our prenatal class suggested them as being nice for creating a calming mood. DH totally got them out and set them up, much to the amusement of the hospital staff)
The only things I feel like I really want to pack are:
    1. A pair of yoga pants, one nursing bra, and two shirts to wear at the hospital (but I also stayed in that hospital gown for at least the first 24 hours after giving birth, so I can see why people would want more clothing options). No underwear- I'll totally go home wearing the mesh panties they give me.
    2. Maybe shampoo and conditioner? Though I feel like they have those at the hospital. They also have toothbrushes and toothpaste so I feel like it's fine if I pack toiletries and fine if I don't. I won't wear any makeup, so no need for that.
    3. For baby- two outfits. One to go home in... and the other to go home in, in case baby explodes on the first one. Otherwise, baby will just wear hospital clothes while in the hospital.
    4. Carseat, and blanket to go over baby in carseat in case it happens to be cold.
    5. Boppy or something similar for nursing. Maybe nipple cream of some sort, but I also bet the hospital can find something if I need it.
    6. Two extra pillows b/c hospital pillows suck, and two extra pillowcases.
    7. Phones (DH's and mine) and chargers for both. Last time I feel like we also brought a laptop and the iPad and didn't use either during our stay, and we can do pretty much anything on our phones.
    8. Snacks. Lifesavers for labor (I puked during labor and wasn't allowed to eat, so lifesavers really helped with the gross taste), snacks for DH, snacks for me for labor (if I'm allowed, which I doubt), and for postpartum. And drinks for me and for DH. But I won't go overboard- there are food options at the hospital, a good strip mall across the street, and we'll have my sister around to run errands if need be, so I don't feel the need to pack like we're going into the desert for a week.

Can you think of anything I'm obviously forgetting?

  33. Mrs. Yoyo

    blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts

@Lozza: I'm packing as we speak -- DH has LO so may as well be as productive as I can. I have most of what's on your list. Maybe also slippers/socks and a thin robe. I'm packing all the toiletries I would take on any trip, but I have travel versions that don't hog space. Debating taking my own towel ... I remember them being like glorified washcloths.

  34. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Lozza: I'm totally taking snacks for myself during labor, and good snacks for after birth. Both my childbirth teacher and my midwife said that hospitals don't recommend eating based on outdated knowledge, but that it would be okay. They can't actually do anything to you if they 'catch' you eating. I'm not taking much, just some GU chomps, things I've eaten before on long runs, are easily digestible, and been able to keep down. I can't imagine having to labor on an empty stomach, especially knowing how my body reacts when my blood sugar gets too low.

Re: the questions on baby gear, here are my suggestions:

    1. We own two baby towels. Otherwise, we just use regular towels, and it has always been fine- I actually much prefer using our normal, bigger towels- that way I can wrap the whole thing around LO, put him down on the towel on his back on a bed or the floor, and have plenty of towel left to dry him off. We've also never bathed LO every day unless he gets really gross- we tend to do every other.
    2. Swaddles: I recommend having two types so you can compare- I totally thought we'd use the Aden and Anais blankets for this, but I hated them as swaddles and we loved the idiot-proof velcro ones that we turned our noses up at initially. I think most of DH's infancy we primarily used our two velcro swaddles (maybe surprisingly, they didn't seem to get exploded on very often) and then had blankets as backup if needed.
Pacifiers: You'll need fewer if you also buy pacifier tethers
We acquired about a million over the course of LO's life because we're inherently disorganized people and we kept pacifiers EVERYWHERE, but I know organized people who lasted months with just the two they came home with from the hospital.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I have my list made and will start putting things in the bag tonight and finish this weekend. I need to get travel size face wipes, toothbrush/toothpaste, and a few other things. I might stop at Target tonight, but I also might go home since I have to work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow night.

@evansjamie: gu is on my list as well, my husband thinks its crazy but I figure its the same concept as a long run, right?

  38. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@jetsa: That's my feeling. Thankfully, my husband shares in my brand of crazy (he's a mountain/road biker) and love Chomps too. I think it's ridiculous for hospitals to expect women to labor with little more than water, popsicles, and ice chips.

  39. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@evansjamie: my husband runs with me, but he's the crazy who'll run a half on one 1 packet of gu. Your body needs more than that lol. I'm so scared of my induction because of this, you want me to come in Monday night and my next full meal will be after baby, I'll be dying!

  40. Chillybear

@MrsMed: my supermarket sells already marinated meats from the butcher at a discount every sunday so i've been stocking up on those and freezing them so theyre easy to grill (hubs preferred method of cooking) I also froze a batch of chili and i'm making Pulled BBQ chicken today that will get frozen.

I picked up a couple of nursing tanks on clearance at target and I really like Old Navy Tamis but you still need a bra under them. Theyre like $7 each on sale

@evansjamie: i went on a baby clothes shopping spree after work yesterday. I returned some things to Macy's that my coworkers bought that were either duplicate or out of season and that got me an $80 credit. I bought about 16 sets, pieces and the prices ranged from $3-$10. and i had coupons!.... my baby will not be pants-less! plus i got a really cute dress to bring her home in.

As for movement i'm feeling more pushes and sweeping movements than jabs these days

@Lozza: We got 2 swaddlepods (NB), 2 Swaddleme w/ velcro (S/M) a Halo in fleece and 4 A&A swaddle blankets. Pacifiers we got a 2 pack of tommy tippee 2 of Avent soothers and a wubbanub... did your LO have a favorite brand/shape?
