@evansjamie: In our class we only watched like 10 minutes of a video. But, I did watch the Business of Being Born and a bunch of Ina May's books. I love reading/seeing all of that stuff too. It makes me feel really inspired, determined and confident (like we can do this) and it's also helpful to see that there are many different positions and things you can do to help you through labor. I am guessing that I will probably want to see the placenta as well -- see how healthy (or not) I am.

@Chillybear: I made blueberry and banana nut muffins. I also made chocolate chip muffins, but I ended up taking those to my friend who was in a car accident. Tonight I'm going to make lemon poppy seed muffins, and I'll buy about four more mixes this weekend. I've only got one muffin tin, so I have to spread it out. I'm glad you are feeling better! It's hard to remember not to overdo it.

@CHILLYBEAR: The sushi costume you posted is something that I am going to make for my little one for Halloween. I made an adult sized one several years ago for myself, so I'm thinking of busting it back out again this year - hopefully it still fits!

@evansjamie: Really good point. Although you never know these days with technology and stem cells. That said, for all of us, I hope the placenta is the only organ we ever grow.

@sadieloo: PSL is a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. I'm a bit addicted to them so it's a good thing I don't have the car very often (not in walking distance).

Re: Braxton Hicks, I was actually at the OB this morning, and I mentioned that I thought I'd been having some but wasn't sure, and that I'd never had any with my first pregnancy. She said that they really don't happen much if at all with first pregnancies- which surprised me, because I'd never really heard that before, and I've heard so many people talk about having them with first pregnancies. But I guess if you AREN'T having them, definitely don't worry because it's more common than not, according to my OB!

Just had my 36 week appointment- all is well, and I'm dilated to a 2, which essentially means nothing except for the fact that at least once I actually go into labor, I won't be totally starting from scratch. Baby is measuring an estimated 6 lbs 9 oz right now. I asked if she thought any kind of natural get-labor-going remedies were useful, and she said she did think that raspberry leaf tea can make a difference, and not to start it till 39 weeks.

I had my 36 week appointment today. We will find out the GBS results later in the week. Doctor checked me and absolutely no dilation. Not that I was expecting much. Also found out that I've gained 29 pounds so far. Not that I really care much as this point, but more than I had wanted to gain. We discussed labor signs (had a few BH contractions but that's it) and put in a request for a c-section. If I don't got into natural labor by 41 weeks, I'm opting for a c-section instead of induction per my previous c-section. Hope everyone else is having a more comfortable week than I. Bright spot: got my PSL today and savored every sip.

@TFrances: @Lozza: congrats on your 36 week appts! I'm 36 weeks today and my next appt is Friday. The info on BH's is interesting- actually makes me feel a lot better! And now I want another PSL I'm up 30 lbs myself so I feel ya on that too.

Question on measuring baby now. I've only been given a weight on baby when they u/s her. My MIL asked me today how much she was weighing and I said IDK- they're not doing another u/s. And she argued with me that they can tell. They just measure my uterus each appt to make sure it's measuring normal (always is.) How do you ladies who are given a weight find that out? I can't imagine how they'd determine it?

  14. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@kjpugs: I don't know! The last time I got a weight was at 26 weeks (my last ultrasound). Since then, they just measure my fundal height to make sure everything is measuring on track.

I'm up anywhere between 20-25 pounds depending on the scale at the office. Also, all this talk about PSL at Starbucks makes me want one, and I don't even like Pumpkin Spice.

  15. Chillybear

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@kjpugs: based on the people i know irl who have been told how much their baby weighs by a dr, they are not very good guessing it. I'm banking on an 8 pounder. Me and my brother weighed in at 8lbs 8oz and my husband was in the low 8lb range at birth

  16. Lozza

    pear / 1837 posts

@kjpugs: Even the ultrasound-estimated weights are subject to a fair margin of error- I can't imagine that a guess based on fundal height measurement would actually be all that useful. You could look up a chart online of average fetal weight/measurements at 36 weeks and just pick the 50th percentile and tell her that
Our weight estimate was from the ultrasound we had this morning (our OB always does an ultrasound around 36 weeks) and is computed based on various measures like head circumference and femur length.

Oh my goodness, lots to catch up on our thread. We had a slightly crazy appointment today... The heartbeat was a little lower than the usual so they sent me to triage for monitoring. Good news is everything is fine and now all the pre-paperwork is complete... Oh and I'm GBS + so there's that.

I forgot to ask how I was measuring this week but at last weeks appointment I was measuring small but that didn't change my due date. I feel like this child is just hiding up in my ribs...

Since I am super hot I've been loving that our house stays at 72 or below due to the fall cool down. DH and pup do not love that it's 67* in the morning. Look at my freeze baby! And if you love puppy snores like I do, you'd enjoy the snorts and grunts coming from the blanket.

    @ladybee: omg, talk about CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ladybee: That has to be the sweetest picture I've ever seen!

I just got back from my appointment. Only ONE MORE APPOINTMENT on the schedule before my due date!!!! I suppose next week we'll talk about if I need to schedule a 40 week appointment. I'm measuring perfectly at 38 cm and her heartrate was in the 150'. Feet were on the left and her head was down!

I can't believe we are meeting our babies soon! And I'm also slightly jealous of all the September mommies meeting their babies now. I can't wait to get to know this person who's been rolling around inside of me for so long.

@ladybee: Awwww. How sweet! I wish we could hear the puppy snores. Our pooch does the same thing, except she is under the covers and grunts when we wake up in the morning, like "come on Mom, do I haaavveeee to get up?" Poor little guys have no idea what they are getting themselves into.

@evansjamie: Awww. Congrats! So happy to hear baby girl is healthy and positioned well.

We also had our 37-38 week appt. (I'm 37W+ 2) and I'm measuring 38 weeks. Baby boy's heart rate was 145-150 and he is still head down and laying sideways. I am Group B strep negative -- yay!

Oh and @kjpugs, even though I am still somewhat convinced that I have yet to have a real BH contraction, I was apparently having them when she measured my belly. My stomach got really hard and tensed up and then clearly relaxed. I always thought it was the baby moving.

@Sadieloo: I always wonder about that. To me, it feels like she's stretching out, and I feel like only one part of my belly gets hard and tense. But then I wonder if it's actually BH.

I think baby girl likes avocado. I ate some on my salad today, and about five minutes after I got done she started kicking up a storm!

Regardless, I'm ready to meet her on the outside. My back is killing me, and I'm starting to feel pelvic pressure on a regular basis. I had to sit down after slicing my avocado and tomatoes because my back/pelvis hurt so bad. Only two more weeks until my EDD.

  31. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@kjpugs: @evansjamie: Thanks! @abbylyn: to add to what I previously said, I asked my twin sister (who's had two kiddos) and she claims she never had BH contractions. Who knows!

@evansjamie: I hear you on the discomfort. I've definitely been feeling a lot more pelvic pressure. Last night when I tried to switch sides, I also heard a large crack from my pelvic region. The relaxin is really getting to work loosening things up!

Has anyone started to 'drop' yet?

  32. abbylyn

    apricot / 298 posts

@Sadieloo: Mine dropped last week. I don't think it's super obvious to look at me, but I felt like I had sooooo much more room in/under my ribcage.

  33. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: I think I've dropped a little because all of a sudden I'm so HUNGRY all the time. I've started adding avocado to my lunch salad to help me get more protein and calories and I've noticed that my snacks need to be more substantial to get me through until my next meal. Last week, I sneezed and felt my back pop. Yay relaxin!

  34. Chillybear

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@Sadieloo: A couple of people told me that all the cramping i experienced on sunday may have been her dropping. But i'm so short waisted its pretty hard to tell. I'll probably know more after my appt tonight. Her movement is getting stronger and more uncomfortable, she's been having lots of hiccups. BH are becoming more frequent and im still having occasional cramping/soreness since sunday. As excited as I am to meet this baby she really needs to hang out in there until October. I still have so much on my plate at work and a laundry list of things i want to accomplish at home.

  35. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Chillybear: I feel the same way. I'm anxious to meet her but I do have things I need to finish at work, so while I'd be glad to welcome her early, it wouldn't work out so well for me at work.

However, I'm also trying to remind myself that the job got done without me before and it can get done without me again. Now, I just need to remind my boss that while I'm on maternity leave I will not be calling in twice a week to check on things (seriously, my replacement asked me to do that) or be able to answer questions about where things can be found.

  36. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@abbylyn: @evansjamie: I agree. I def think I have a little more room in my rib cage and have definitely been feeling hungrier. So much for not necessarily gaining weight towards the end of pregnancy.

@Chillybear: Interesting. I've also been feeling some cramping here and there but nothing too crazy. Sending my thoughts and prayers that baby girl hangs in there until October. I'm in the same boat and just realized today that I have two or so weeks to really wrap up my work. Yikes!

@evansjamie: they asked you to call in twice a week? That's ridiculous!

  37. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Chillybear: My mom asked me if the baby has been dropping any. I'm not sure, I think a little bit. The belly is definitely closer to my pubic area. She said that it would seem to be pointing downward instead of straight out.

@Sadieloo: Yes. She asked me to call in to check on things because "I'll know when the baby is napping." I am not calling. I will not be available to answer questions and I refuse to pick up the phone when that number comes up.

We met with our pediatrician office tonight! I think it's going to be a good fit. They strongly encourage breast feeding if that's what the mother wants, and I like how they have separate sick, well, and contagious entrances.

I had what my 37 week appt last night and my first internal exam. holy crap i'm already 3cm! i can only guess thats what all the cramping was about on Sunday. Doc says it still could be days or weeks before i see real contractions but she's predicting a smooth labor since i'm already at a good starting place.

@CHILLYBEAR: Woo hoo! Here I was freaking out this morning after my appointment because I'm 1.5 cm and 50% effaced. Doctor told me the same thing - it could be days or weeks. Good thing is baby is behaving and is head down still and is on the smaller side but long. I never thought I'd take this as a compliment, but doctor told me that my vagina feels "roomy and is fit for a vaginal delivery."
