Updating with my appointment... you guys should give more birthday guesses!! I'm excited to see when everyone's babies arrive! Added "WELCOME BABIES" line to track it! Who will be next!!!!?!?!?!?!? (I figure we can add baby's name if we feel comfortable, not sure if Sweet T does since her post was gold, so I just did "BOY")

@KJPUGS: From what I can tell dilation doesn't really indicate much anyway...OB told me that a cervix can be long and hard but all of a sudden go into labor or be dilated and thinned out and still require inductions Good idea on the "WELCOME BABY" section!
watermelon / 14467 posts
Oh ladies, I'm so jealous of your dilation! I'm glad we don't get checks because I know it doesn't mean that labor is imminent, but I wish I had some knowledge that something was happening besides BH contractions that are getting more uncomfortable.
I'm really trying to stay upbeat and positive, but stick a fork in me. Seriously. I'm ready to not be at work or pregnant anymore. Today has just not been that great.
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: man so me people have nerve. I think I would have laughed in their face! Awesome that you found a good pediatrician. We don't get o meet ours until after the baby is here. And sorry to hear you are so uncomfortable. Hang I'm there!
@Chillybear: wow - 3 cm?!? That's great -- I think. Something similar happened to my friend. She started to dilate pretty early on and consistently. We still gave birth after her due date FYI.
kiwi / 726 posts
@mrs. mochi: exciting to know that. Things are progressing!
I wonder who is going to have the first October baby, besides @sweet T of course.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: I agree re: knowing dilation doesn't mean OMG YOUR BABY WILL COME TOMORROW. It would just be nice to see a cause and effect! Something to show for all the pain/pressure, ya know?
Chiro today commented that my super long torso was throwing her off and she doesn't think baby dropped. Yayyy.
@Sadieloo: there's another October baby already born, @beaker had her baby! I saw it in the thread she posted but there weren't many details so I will wait for her to update too. Looks like she had some complications so hopefully everything is ok now!

I had updated before to move to team pink but I think it got lost. So here is that long-due update, and I gave a guess on baby girl's birthday.... I figure, husband is supposed to be out of town on Tues/Wed next week and this week on Monday I had my last progesterone shot and they last a week. So my luck I will go into labor while he is gone! That's ok, I have two doulas (my sister took the training and I hired one with experience too) and after being totally traumatized by my son's birth he may be ok missing it. I know that sounds bad - he's a great dad but I think all the hospital stuff makes him really squeamish!

@AprilK: so exciting!!! Maybe you'll be next And that's how it always seems to go, when you would prefer them NOT to come. My nephew was born after laboring through the superbowl!
apricot / 391 posts
@kjpugs: It's sooooo odd to be wondering WHEN she will come at all. My son was born at 34 weeks 4 days, so it never occured to me that he could come at any time until my water broke and we were headed to the hospital. I'm 36 weeks and 5 days now so I keep joking that "I'm more pregnant than I've ever been in my life." But I am really getting excited that the longer she stays in the better off she'll be and that we'll likely avoid the NICU this time!

GOOD NEWS! We have a pediatrician!!!!!! Just called and confirmed after some extensive research. We went with a larger group- 7 days a week (for a $35 fee after hours, which is cheaper than the ER!) they have someone at at least one of the locations, and there are 2 locations both at least somewhat convenient. Plus the lady I talked to was really nice, patient, and courteous... I hate when they seem annoyed to talk to you, so I approve. HUGE weight off my shoulders!!!!!!!!!!
PS- if anyone is still looking, I asked my OB for a list and they had one they could print that was about 3 pages. It was easy, I just went through and narrowed it down by geography then looked into/called them and discussed with DH. It mostly came down to a one-man practice or a group practice for us.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: Isn't it just the best feeling to have that weight lifted? I felt so good once we visited the office last week. I'm thrilled that they have Saturday hours at my office, and that it's really close to our house (less than 3 miles)! Also, I feel like my short torso is throwing people off. I can tell she's a bit lower, but everyone else says she keeps moving out.

For those who were told to eat pineapple as labor prep; did anyone specify how much? Like, a cup a day? a pineapple a day?
apricot / 286 posts
Update: While we are still hoping to accomplish a VBAC, the doctor called me today to schedule a last resort c-section. Really I'm okay with either outcome as long as he's healthy. So, I am updating my birthday guess. They moved my c-section up a week (OR conflicts) and I'm still guessing that the baby won't want to come out naturally before that time...

@Lozza: I was told to buy a pineapple, cut the spike top off and then store it upside down. When you're ready to eat, slice off a chunk from the top and eat (all the juice is meant to drip down into the slice). I've been indulging in a bit more than a slice. I love pineapple!
pear / 1837 posts
@Sadieloo: DH went ahead and cut up the whole pineapple into chunks already, and I brought a giant container to work with me today. I think I OD'ed on pineapple- I've probably eaten 2 cups thereof in the last couple of hours and now I feel kind of ill...
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: @Lozza: Man, I wish I liked pineapple! It sounds delicious but I know that my taste buds will reject it.
cherry / 175 posts
@Lozza and @Sadieloo: I have been eating pineapple throughout my entire pregnancy more or less...as in an entire pineapple every 10 days or so for at least the last 6-7 months. I don't want to burst anybody's bubble, but I don't know if it really has the big effects everybody is hoping for? Especially when eating a lot of it the last few weeks of pregnancy? I mean one would think that the amount of pineapple I was eating I would've gone into pre-term labor!
kiwi / 726 posts
@Lozza: I've had those moments as well. It tastes SOO good and juicy and cold and I shove it down my pie hole and then regret it.
@evansjamie: From what I understand, the jury is still out on the effectiveness of pineapple, or anything for that matter. I was also told that licorice may help.

I finally broke down and scheduled a prenatal massage for today. And man, was it worth it! I have so much less tension in my back, but the biggest effect was on my feet. Just having the therapist spend a little bit of time digging into my feet has turned them virtually pain free. I know it will be back tomorrow, but this is a great feeling. Plus, they gave me a coupon to get the first time visit for next time. I'm thinking an early Christmas present to myself...

@TFrances: So good to hear! I plan on scheduling one in the next week or two because dang it, I deserve it!
@kjpugs: Congrats on the ped! Its gotta be a huge relief!
@evansjamie: I am anxious about leaving work too. I feel like who ever does it while I'm out (I'm a teacher) won't do it as well and I'll have a mess when I come back. I need to let go!

AFM, I had my 35 week appointment today. Had the strep test and I'm not sure when I'll get the results. I was also checked (which I was not expecting) and I am 1cm dilated. I did NOT see that coming. My OB said he can pretty much guarantee me two weeks but after that he can come at any point. We will know more at my next appointment. I really wanted to make it to 41 weeks so I did cry when I left the office. I ate a huge sundae, I'm feeling better now. Time for puppy snuggles!

@ladybee: Just remember, you can walk around dilated for weeks before baby comes. Fingers crossed that he says in as long as you need him to! And yeah, I hear you on the work. I am really afraid that I'm going to come back to a mess and somehow get blamed for it, but it really isn't my fault that they cheaped out on my replacement (she used to work for us but has no idea about most of the things I do).

Holy reality check! Sorry if this is TMI, but I just squeezed my nipple and milk actually came out. Has anyone else experienced this yet?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: I've not gotten actual milk, but yes, I get dried stuff which lets me know that I have leaked.
I just got my new pump parts so I'm going to test the pump out tonight. If you want, I can report back. But I don't think it's weird or TMI.

@Sadieloo: Thats how they told us to do it at the pineapple farm in hawaii on our honeymoon!

@Sadieloo: When i get out of a hot shower i usually see drops of a clearish liquid which i'm assuming is colostrum
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: I'm always feeling like you are ten steps ahead of everyone (or maybe just me). Impressed you are trying out your pump already. I can't get mine until after baby boy is born, not to mention I am not quite ready to have him and don't want to go into labor yet. And yes, definitely let me know how it goes. Btw, what pump did you get? I think the only one my insurance covers is the Almeda Purely Yours.
@Chillybear: Good to know my midwife wasn't making stuff up. And a pineapple farm in Hawaii sounds like paradise!! I guess it's time to break out the breast pads.
pomegranate / 3032 posts
@Sadieloo: It was so fun! we toured the farm on a truck all while eating as much pineapple as we could stuff in our faces, then got to pick fresh ripe pineapples to take back to the hotel. It was a lot like pumpkin picking around halloween. We even had a crate shipped to our house before we left to give out as souvenirs - tastiest gifts ever!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: I bought a used pump to get me through until the pump from my insurance comes. I can't get that one until after the baby is born. It came with some things unopened, but I bought a spare parts kit so I know for sure that these parts will only touch my milk and boobs.
ETA: This pump is an Ameda Purely Yours, and that's the one I'm going to get from my insurance.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: @Sadieloo: I think mine is the same Ameda as you guys, my insurance covered it anytime after I think 32 weeks? But you had to take what they had in stock. It was just guaranteed to be a double electric pump. I wanted a Medela but oh well- free is free! I haven't even opened the box yet, haha.
I haven't had any leaking but I have had some whiteish residue? Almost like a crust/crumble? LOL that's so weird to say. I wish I was leaking because I think that would make me feel more confident about my ability to breastfeed- that thought is not rooted in any facts I've heard, just my personal worries.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: I get the crust/crumble, so that's what I'm basing my leaking on. I've been getting that since 16 weeks.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: Also, maybe by pumping just a bit I can bring on some contractions?
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: same here, about that long. FX it's a good sign. I SO want to breastfeed.
kiwi / 726 posts
@Chillybear: That sounds really awesome. If only I had been one of those lucky few to get the accidental $5 flights to Hawaii. And what awesome gifts. I would be psyched if someone gave me a pineapple from Hawaii!
@evansjamie: Good thinking! I am going to buy a hand pump for now (just in case) and wait until I get the free insurance pump. I was told that you shouldn't pump right away, so I'm hoping we'll be ok until the pump arrives. And worst case scenario, I can rent a pump. Def let me know if the pumping brings on contractions! I had acupuncture yesterday and really think that it started to move things a bit yesterday and I thought we might be meeting baby sooner than later. Today I'm back to feeling like baby is going to hang out for awhile.
@kjpugs: that's awesome that you were already able to get your pump. I couldn't agree anymore. Free is free! I still can't believe how much a 7 lb human being costs already.
