@TFrances: I'm glad to hear you are feeling better!!!

Ladies, my mom came last night and is staying again tonight. We worked in the baby's room and made so much progress! Like, I can see the floor! I think I can finish the rest of the room myself and then DH and I can paint next weekend. I'm feeling a lot better about it all, but man, am I sore tonight!

@Jennimac: that's great! Rest up and take your time, you don't want to get sick this late in the game, trust me. It's miserable. But I can't wait to see her room!

I'm wiped out after that conference last week and seriously considering taking my last sick day on Monday if I don't feel rested. I also put together the Moses basket stand last night, and I officially hate the Allen wrench. This thing was worse than putting together IKEA furniture. I'm so glad it's done. I need to clear out the place for it in our room, and then I feel like baby can come.

@evansjamie: I am taking a personal day on Tuesday because I have SO much work to catch up on before going. I know the world would be fine if I didn't get most of it done but I am too OCD to leave things unfinished.

@ladybee: I have tons of stuff to get done (eek!) and I'm not super confident about my replacement for part of the job. She used to work here and she is not comfortable around computers at all. I'm so afraid that I'll come back to a mess, but hopefully I'm wrong. They keep telling me not to have the baby yet, so I'm like, "well, I'll do my best!" Because I have a say in when labor starts, obviously. Just as long as it doesn't inconvenience work (grumble grumble).

@evansjamie: Aw I'm sorry. That's not fair for them to place to stress on you! I'm not confident in my long term sub for the special ed legal stuff so I am busting my butt to get it done. I'm not due till the 22nd but my doctor doesn't think I'll make it to 40 weeks. I'm just asking baby boy for two more weeks!

@ladybee: As Much as I want her here now, I will be a-ok with her giving me until 5:00 Friday. I'm supposed to come in on the 30th so I can start my leave in a fresh pay period, which will put me getting paid for all of October with the last pay period plus my vacation (hoping to stretch into November with my comp time), but if I don't make it on Monday, that will be fine too.

I hope everyone had a good weekend! With the weather change, the full moon, and the Autumn equinox, I did not have a baby, but that's okay. One more week of work!

We practiced labor techniques last night in our childbirth class by holding ice cubes in our hands for the duration of contractions. The first one was awful; the lights were on, it was loud and busy, and our teacher was purposefully being negative and having us concentrate on the pain. Once we could use coping techniques, it wasn't quite so bad. At one point I remember thinking, "When the hell is this next contraction going to come?!" when we were at the pushing stage, because apparently they stretch out again so you get a break. I discovered that I want the room dim, relaxing music, and I really like being massaged and having encouragement. Also: make sure your husband/doula/support people have fresh breath. I'm so glad I had a mint for my husband after we ate the chocolate, because I could not stand chocolate/peanut butter breath in my face.

Funny story: I was practicing the hands/knees position for laboring/birthing, and my husband said he really appreciated the view and how he liked how hippy I look now. I practically yelled, "SEE WHAT YOU'VE BEEN MISSING?????"

I'm not bitter about the lack of grown-up interaction at all.

  8. Chillybear

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@evansjamie: Your class seems like they're really preparing you for whats to come.

As for the "grown up interaction" dont stress too much after a hesitant session yesterday i ended up having to call my office's emergency number as i started bleeding pretty heavily afterward. Luckily it slowed then stopped with a couple hours and i didnt start contracting or cramping. Def made the hubs nervous, i dont think he'll want to attempt that again.

We got our car seats inspected and had our breastfeeding class this weekend. I thought the breastfeeding class was very informative and really went over the mechanics of bfing which i was never very clear about. It inspired me to go home and open and check out my pump and all its parts. I tried on the hands free bustier and it made by boobs look like batman!

We currently dealing with a mouse issue in our house/kitchen and while terminix came out on saturday. I scrubbed every last nook and cranny yesterday. Ugh i hate those little buggers and our dog is useless at catching them/scaring them off.

@Chillybear: Time definitely seemed to stop. It also reinforced how much I need calming people in the delivery room. I'm also pretty much over my bitterness just because I'm so darn uncomfortable, but last month was a different story. I haven't taken a breastfeeding class...maybe I should look into it if they have another one before my due date. My birth class is talking about it next week. It's our last class and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself on Sunday nights until I have the baby.

I'm glad the bleeding stopped! That would have scared me to death! I'm going to hook up my pump tonight since I have all the parts now and make sure it works, and also call my insurance and see if I still have to wait until the baby is born to order my free pump.

  10. Sadieloo

@evansjamie: yay for only one more week! We did the same exercise in our birth class. I don't know if it's because I was tired or because it was hot, but the ice really didn't bother me much through any of the coping techniques. I really hope that is indicative of how I'll feel in labor, but I am not holding my breath. Really good to know about the breath. I'll have to pick up some mints and gum for everyone

So we had our 38-39 week appt. this AM. Baby boy is still doing well and his head is down, he just needs to turn. My belly also measured very slightly smaller which apparently means he is starting to drop. Less than two weeks until EDD!

  11. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: I kept switching hands, but especially during the transition contractions it just didn't seem that bad. Kind of like, "Well, I've been dealing with the pain for so long that it's not that horrible right now."

  12. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@Chillybear: So glad everything is ok! That would have scared me to death.

@evansjamie: Let's just hope that contractions are just like holding ice.

I keep wondering if we should take a breast feeding class. I've heard they are very informative but not entirely helpful when you don't have a baby. What do you guys think?

  13. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@Chillybear: Wow! Glad everything is okay! that would have scared me to death.

AFM, I took a breastfeeding class last time I was pregnant and I still have all the info, so I didn't do it this time.

We had our first check today...I'm about 1 cm and baby is still breech. We have a c section scheduled for MOnday, October 14. So, if baby doesn't turn, that's when we are having her unless she decides to come earlier. Totally had a freak out moment when we set that date. But, all is good! Now, just getting really, really excited!

I know several of you have been experiencing BH - are any of these painful? Is it just your stomach getting tighter? Do any of them feel like menstrual cramps? The last week I have been feeling what feel like menstrual cramps, but my stomach doesn't seem to get rock hard. They are becoming more frequent and more intense each day...

  16. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@mrs. mochi: I *think* I've been having some. It's discomfort that reminds me of a combo of menstrual and IBS type cramps. It's less of my belly feeling hard and more of baby feeling kind of balled up? But there's NO rhyme or reason to mine- maybe 1 or 2 a day tops- so I'm not even sure they're BH. I'm honestly scared I won't be able to tell when I'm having real contractions if I can't tell these well at all. (I'm sure I'll eat those words.)

  17. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@mrs. mochi: @kjpugs: I wouldn't have known what a BH was had I not had one at one of my appt's and the midwife able to point it out to me. For me, it just feels like my entire stomach (really uterus) tightens. I thought for awhile it was just the baby moving, but apparently not. Mine aren't painful at all and I definitely think they've been happening a lot more frequently as of late.

  18. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@kjpugs: THIS. You just summed up my fears and my feelings. My BH feel like AF is about to start any second and it's going to suck. I'm assuming those are BH and sometimes they are painful. The part you summed up, I am terrified I will not know when I'm in labor. Absolutely terrified!

  19. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@mrs. mochi: Mine are often painful (more so if I'm sitting when it happens). And lately I've been getting a lot of cramps that feel like AF is coming which I know sounds crazy. At our CB class they said BH aren't always the whole uterus, just parts that are practicing and sometimes it is the whole thing.

@Jennimac: I'm jealous of your set date! I hate not having a plan. It makes me feel unprepared. I'm busting my butt at work to get everything ready by Friday *just in case*.

  20. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@ladybee: that's exactly it. That totally LOUSY feeling. I also had HORRIBLE AF cramps due to my PCOS when I was off BC, so while these aren't even close to as bad, it's the same essence, haha. I am so curious how real contractions will feel compared to AF cramps.

  21. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@kjpugs: I was telling my classroom assistant yesterday that I had a lot of cramps and I felt yucky like AF was coming. I have PCOS too so I am also curious to see how it compares to AF.

AFM, I am 36 weeks today and have an appointment tomorrow. I'm anxious to see if I am dilated any further and what my OB's prediction is. Last week he said he really doubted I'd get to 40 weeks and to try and get things wrapped up by 37 just incase. However, he will be out of town my 37th week and I don't have an appointment. I'm going to try and fix that though and ask to see another doctor.

    Hi ladies!
I haven't kept up with the boards much, but now that we are getting close I think support is always good I had so many complications at the beginning I think I was just worried I would jinx myself by getting too excited!

I'm officially team Blue (woot!) and due date was October 23. But last night I lost mucous plug and have had bloody show the last 24 hours with really far apart contractions that don't seem to be going anywhere. My OB is convinced I won't make it another two weeks :s I'm not quite 36 weeks so I'm hoping baby stays put a little bit longer! I feel so bad, but I even called into work today in case resting a bit will help get everything back to normal.

@mrs. mochi: @kjpugs: @ladybee: I'm also FTM so take what I say with a grain of salt - but the BH I was having until this past week were just painless tightenings where the uterus feels like a big ball of cement. Now they are feeling more like super intense period cramps. When I called my OB last night, he said that if they are painful, wrapping around the back, and feeling like I need to breathe through them, that is BH turning into the real deal!

I updated the list with myself on it too!

Had my 39 week appointment today! The was only one midwife in the office, she was on call also, so I had to wait once I got there because she was delivering a baby! Awww. I ended up seeing the student midwife for most of the appointment, and she was a right little ray of sunshine (not). Her bedside manner needs work. I am so tired, I expressed that I am ready to have the baby, and she was so chipper in saying "Well, first babies generally don't come before their due dates!" Gee, thanks. Then she got on to me for my one high glucose reading after lunch on Saturday. I ate cereal and had a coke at lunch, so it wasn't super high, just higher than normal, but I didn't have anything else in the house and I was in so much pain that I wasn't going to go to the store. I was very glad when she left and my midwife came in, because I like her much better. She said my glucose readings looked excellent for the most part, just a high one here and there.

I'm working on having a more positive attitude today. I stayed up too late watching the series finale of Dexter last night, had a conversation with my husband while he was asleep (apparently, he thought he was talking to our dog who was standing on her hind legs like a person and said I even sounded like Bea's voice), and was up going to the bathroom approximately every hour.

So TMI/Embarrassing pregnant moment for the day.... Last night i stopped at target after work. Our target has 2 levels I was on the upper level and the bathrooms are on the lower level. I was hurrying to finish up my shopping and i was either going to try and make it home or stop at the bathrooms on the way out. Well i sneezed and felt a bit of a gush. So i hurried home, to get changed and when i used the bathroom I had large amounts of pink twinged mucus. So of course i told hubs what happened even though i was pretty sure it was pee and not amniotic fluid, he still made me call the dr emergency number. Needless to say I was right and now all of you and my doctor know I peed myself in Target. But despite myself i thought it was too funny not to share.

@Chillybear: You are not alone! Sneezing while sitting has become my nemesis. Fortunately, all of my incidents have occurred at home or in the car. My feeling is that it is just practice for labor and delivery.

@Chillybear: oh I get you! I peed on myself at our newborn class---I left a ring in the chair. I was convinced my water broke because there was so much! Nope, just lots of pee.

Reading about everyone's experiences with various symptoms and basically everyone has had such different ones. I've got the painful pressure in my lower pelvis (doctor said he could feel the baby's head down near the birth canal) and random tightening of my entire abdomen. Every time I feel a painful twinge or tightening, I momentarily think I'm going into labor. But I'm becoming more and more convinced that all of this is just the pre-labor preparation. Until my water breaks, I lose my mucus plug, or have intense contractions consistently, I'm not going to get excited... Just attempting to make it through it day.

@TFrances: I was excited when they confirmed that her head was in my pelvis today. So, so excited. Not so excited when they said that it was also laying on my bladder. No wonder I've been peeing every hour at night.

@evansjamie: Doctor didn't say that the baby was on my bladder, but I am convinced that's the case. Last night, I was in bed for 8 hours and I think I got up to pee about 5 times. Argh! And my plantar fascitis is making it really hard to make it to the bathroom. Almost peed myself again, but just made it.
