@mrskoloa: you are right, I remember them saying that. We would probably do the b safe then if we got that one. I'm leaning toward a Baby Jogger though!
cherry / 242 posts
@Mrs.Panda: everything I've read about the city mini and the b-agile makes it sound as if they have almost identical features, except the b-agile is cheaper. I'm a little worried about the b safe though. It's only supposed to weigh 10 pounds, which is only two pounds heavier than the mico ap, but a lot of reviewers have said it felt really heavy. I'm a small girl and I'm starting to wonder if I should lift weights now to prepare!

@mrskoloa: We had the Britax system and loved it! The only reason I traded (just last month) is because you can't add a second seat to it. Babies R Us allowed me to trade it in for full price and I bought the Baby Jogger City Select which I also now love. I plan to use it with both kids and it's compatible with the B-Safe infant seat that we already own.
How is everyone feeling? I am consistently feeling movement throughout the day now which is fun, but DH hasn't been able to feel it on the outside yet. We are counting the minutes until our scan on Weds morning when we find out what we are having!!
I checked the scale this morning and whoa. I've gained more than I expected and am not feeling so great about it. I've continued to go to the gym 4 days/week and feel like I've been eating well, but the number is quite a bit higher than when I was this far along with DS. I'm hoping it isn't a trend that continues...

@mrskoloa: we have decided to get the graco evo full travel set, I test drove lots and its so lightweight and has great reviews. Now we are just stuck for what colour to go for!
@bushelandapeck: how much weight have you put on at how many weeks? I had put on 5lbs at 16 weeks and got a bit of a row from my midwife, now at 19 weeks I don't know how much I've put on but I'm worried what she will say. I will weigh myself tonight! Do you have a feeling of what your baby's gender is? How exciting! Not long now.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mrs tartan: I've gained 4-6lbs, depending on when I test and will be 18w on Wednesday. I hadn't gained any at this point with DS though, so that's why it bothers me. And. when I saw my OB at 13w and had gained 1lb, she made a comment about how it was "ok" but that the baby really didn't need anything at that point so I hadn't needed to gain anything. I guess I'm nervous about her reaction as well. I also have had issues with eating/weight in the past so it's always a struggle for me to see the numbers change...
kiwi / 656 posts
@bushelandapeck: I feel the same way. I'm going I've stuck around the 5lb mark as I'm really uneasy about gaining weight, especially after being told off for it! Good luck on wed I can't wait to hear what you are having!
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mrs tartan: It's so strange beacause when I was pregnant with DS and hadn't gained any weight at 18w I was reprimanded for it and sent to the nutritionist...this time it's a different OB and her approach is pretty punitive. I'm seeing the midwife on Weds but plan to switch OB's if I feel uneasy next time I see her.

@MrsKoala We are waiting until I'm further along to start test driving, but I think we are thinking the City Mini or the B-Agile. I actually started looking at the City Elite and I think we might go with that one instead because of the bigger wheels, but if the Summit X3 (also Baby Jogger) isn't too cumbersome, I'd prefer a stroller that could be used for light jogging as well. We live in a teeny tiny rowhouse (at it's widest point it is 12 feet wide, but most of it is actually 9 feet wide) so we don't have a lot of storage, and we are going to have to get a bike trailer, so our options are to get either a single stroller that can also double as a jogging stroller (but the BOB is way too big), or get a bike trailer that works as a jogger as well (which is a very pricey option).
@Bushelandapeck I have also gained more than I would like at this point, but I'm having a hard time tracking my calories/getting enough food/eating stuff that will stay down (my nausea still hasn't cleared though I've hit 14 weeks), and I can't seem to stomach healthy, non-fattening food, and I certainly don't have the energy to prepare it. I even bought baby carrots to snack on and totally left them at home.

@Mrs tartan: ugh that's the worst mine has turned into a combination of both and what I eat doesn't even seem to matter
@bunnylovesbear: lol well I bet it was still delicious!!! Now I want a sundae YUM
@bushelandapeck: I've gained 5lbs and I'm 15 weeks. My OB informed me that she doesn't want to see me gain more than 15lbs TOTAL - I have no idea how that is possible. I'm a vegetarian and generally eat pretty healthy and I spend a lot of time walking but I'm going to have to ramp it up because 15lbs total gain sounds impossible to me right now. ETA: super exciting about feeling movement and your scan on Weds!!! Eeeeek!!!
Haven't really begun to think about gear except for the stroller, we're pretty sold on the uppababy Vista, we live in a city without a car and it seems like the best fit for us.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mrs tartan: I realized I never responded to the question about gender
I was certain I was having a girl last time but we had a boy. I am seriously the worst guesser ever. I have no intuition this time other than to assume it's another boy since that's what we have already. Have you decided if you want to find out or not?
@Ms.Mermaid: It's so hard when you feel lousy all the time...I hope you start to feel better soon!
@cmbknyc: Wow! That doesn't seem like a reasonable number...is that her standard amount for pregnancy? I gained 21 lbs with DS and that was the low end of what I thought was typical.
cherry / 242 posts
@bushelandapeck: I'm glad you loved it. I had my heart so set on the UB Cruz that it's been hard to adjust to the B-Agile, but I can't excuse twice the cost for only a handful of features. Plus, this will be my only child, so having the option for a second seat isn't a priority for me.
@Mrs tartan: I tried searching for it, and I don't think they sell it in the US! It seems really similar to Uppababy though.
@Ms.Mermaid: I liked the Citi Mini GT for its wheels, but $100 extra for nicer wheels and no car seat didn't seem like a good bargain.
@cmbknyc: I, too, was sold on the Vista, but I checked it out at Nordstrom and that thing is HEAVY! OR I'm a weakling. I thought it was huge, too, which was why I was more interested in the Crus instead since it was still Uppababy, had all of same features, just smaller and lighter. THEN I found the Britax B-Agile, which had some of the same features and was half the cost. I still really want the Cruz, but I can't justify the cost of spending twice as much.
I am 19 weeks today and have gained 4-5 pounds, maybe. My doctor told me at the beginning that one pound each for the first five months, then one pound a week for twenty weeks, would keep the average woman on track to gain 25-30 by the end of the pregnancy. I would love to keep it more towards the 25 mark (I was 105ish before I got pregnant), but we'll see. I haven't been exercising with the same intensity as I was before I was pregnant (felt like shit the first trimester, and then had some weird bleeding after some heavy lifting early in the second trimester) but I've been doing a little something something. I got this dvd and I do a segment every day: http://www.amazon.com/Suzanne-Bowens-Toned-Prenatal-Workout/dp/B008X7JBPM. It's pretty hard, actually, for me. The legs and the arms sections anyway. Not the cardio or the stretch.
kiwi / 656 posts
@bushelandapeck: still haven't decided. I'm thinking that I'm going to wait until the day, hope baby's legs are crossed so I've no choice. If the tech can tell then ill decide then and there if I can wait. DH is happy either way if we stick to team green or not.
@cmbknyc: 15lbs in total! Wow that is strict.
Oh dear, I've just weighed myself and at 19 weeks I'm already up 6lbs, I think ill run away before my next midwife appointment! Eek.

I'm so confused, reading this link they are all saying they have gained between 10 and 20 lbs by 20 weeks. I think I might ask for a second opinion if I get told off for my 6lbs, I still feel healthy and fairly thin apart from my growing bump!
http://community.babycenter.com/post/a5864705/at_20_weeks_pregnant_how_much_weight_should_i_gain
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mrs tartan: I think that link is right...the average is 25-35lbs during pregnancy. I don't think what any of us gained so far is too much, I just hate to think about my OB making any sort of comment about it.
@mrskoloa: I haven't been exercising with the same intensity either, which is part of the issue. I am just exhausted after either working or chasing my 21 month old around all day! You'll love the B-Agile
nectarine / 2358 posts
@bushelandapeck: so you like the City Select? I am so torn between that one and the Versa, just do I can see baby. I'm kind of wondering if I should get the Select and the Mini GT to have a full stroller option and then a light weight one. We have the storage space in our house (well, garage) so it would be nice to have both! Now how to convince DH...
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mrs.Panda: I do like it! It's got a great smooth rise and I like that the wheels are rubber because it will make it easier on uneven pavement/gravel. We also have a single Bob that I use with DS but that obviously won't work for two. My only complaint about the Select vs the B-Agile is that it isn't nearly as easy to fold up. I could fold the B-Agile with one hand and that was really great for getting in/out of the car quickly.
nectarine / 2358 posts
@bushelandapeck: thanks! Would you say that it's heavy? I have average strength but that doesn't mean I like to lift heavy things lol I would like the Britax stroller but I am really sold on the Maxi Cosi AP seat. Don't know why, it just seems so comfortable and light! Unfortunately it doesn't fit with Britax
I've heard amazing things about the city mini gt though!
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mrs.Panda: I don't think it's heavy...maybe a little awkward with the front wheel to get in/out of the trunk but I haven't had any issues lifting it so far. I loved the B-Safe infant seat but it is a little heavier than some seats, which can be a negative for some.
pomelo / 5720 posts
We had our scan this morning...baby is measuring great and no concerns. Phew! Unfortunately they weren't able to get a great view because s/he ha thier legs crossed and the umbilical ford was in between the legs. The tech gave us 75% that she guessed correctly. We will open the envelope tonight at dinner and I will report back. Feeling like we probably shouldn't tell anyone else though, as it might not be correct. Any thoughts on what you would do in this situation?
kiwi / 630 posts
@bushelandapeck: well great news on it being a positive and healthy scan!!! Bummer on the gender, that would drive me batty!!! Did they offer you an opportunity to come back for a quick scan? Or do you have to wait until birth...if that were the case I might pay for an elective scan. But I am the type of person that needs to feel as prepared as possible.

HB has hated me for several weeks now and wouldn't let me access this thread, it re-directed me to a different one whenever I clicked on it! But I finally got it fixed and have some serious catching up to do.
So, what's new with me....we found out we are having another boy! I had kind of already mentally prepared myself for that, because I'm one of those people who stupidly always pictured myself with at least one daughter and wanted two kids...so naturally, life decided to give us two boys! I'm excited for my son to have a brother so close in age to him - they'll only be 16 months apart. Initially there were some tears about never getting to experience the other end of a mother/daughter relationship, but now I'm kind of at a point where I've moved on and am excited about another son. I feel a little unsure now about our 2 kid decision, but we've agreed to table that discussion and see how we feel in a few years once we're out of the baby/diaper stage. And, we have chosen our son's name, I LOVELOVELOVE it and am so excited!!! His name will be Declan
Middle name will be my DH's name, which is perfect since we had a tough time deciding on a middle name last time - I wanted to use my dad's and DH wanted to use his, so now we've gotten the chance to use both.
I've still been really sick. No surprise there - I had extreme morning sickness right up until the day I was in labor with my first son, so I'm not really expecting this time around to go any differently. I still haven't gained any weight because of all the vomiting, but that's okay since I was a bit overweight to begin with. It's really rough on my teeth though - I had a root canal done last week - the aftermath of that was pretty awful, but fortunately my mom was on spring break and was able to help me out a ton.
I'm excited to start shopping for baby stuff soon, but right now my main focus is on my son's 1st birthday next week! And Mother's Day, of course
I'm getting a prenatal massage that I'm pretty psyched about. And now I'm off to catch up!
pomegranate / 3791 posts
@mrskoloa: I am having a really hard time picking out a stroller also! We have a Safety 1st infant seat and have just been using the stroller that came with it (we got it as a combo set) for our son, but with 2 under 2 I'm definitely going to need a double stroller. I've heard great things about the Baby Jogger City Mini double, but I have concerns about the width of it - I know it
supposed to be narrow, but I'm not sure if it will be narrow enough. And it doesn't take my seat. At this point I'm leaning towards a Contours stroller that takes my seat and has a ton of different options for seating: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18867586&cp=2255957.2273443.2256189.2256200&parentPage=family
@cmbknyc: @Mrs tartan: I get heartburn too - mostly of the acid rising up the throat type. It is safe to take Zantac during pregnancy though, and that helps me a ton.
@Ms.Pumpkin: Aw, congrats! Great picture, you guys look so happy
As far as clothes go, I can still fit in mine, but can't do my tighter shirts and have to do the hair tie trick with my jeans. And I'm sorry so many of you had stubborn babies during your ultrasounds!

@bushelandapeck: fab news on your scan, glad baby us healthy and happy. Looking forward to your update, I'm guessing girl for you! Haha. I don't know why.
@wonderstruck: my DH and his brother are 16 months apart and are so close! Fab news. Congrats on your little boy.
I had a midwife appointment today, just a quick pee in a cup and blood pressure check but she let us hear the heartbeat for the first time ever. Was amazing
one more week until the 20 week scan, can't wait to see this little baby again. I am getting full on little kicks now at 19+2, feels like a fish flipping about in my belly!

@wonderstruck: Welcome back! Congrats on having another boy, I totally understand being disappointed though. That's a nice name that you guys picked, I'm glad you were able to agree on something pretty quickly! I already know dh and I are going to go rounds on this baby's name lol...

@Mrs tartan: Wow I can't believe how fast this is going by, you're already almost halfway there! And yay for baby kicks, I am feeling lots of flutters but it's still really unnoticeable unless I'm being really still.

@cmbknyc: Thank you! I scheduled an elective scan for this Friday
Hopefully baby is more cooperative then. @wonderstruck: Congratulations on your little boy! I love his name and am so glad to hear you are feeling good about it. I'm hoping I can feel the same if we are having a boy too.
@Mrs tartan: Thank you! Yay for hearing the heartbeat and for having a good appointment!
Here's a couple photos of our LO from today. S/he wasn't being very cooperative so they weren't the best shots.

@bushelandapeck: what do you mean you "traded" your stroller? Babies R Us allows the trade-in of used strollers?
@cmbknyc: that is an absolutely ridiculous weight gain expectation.... 25-35 pounds is totally acceptable, and the only time I've heard of suggesting anything less is when the mother begins the pregnancy overweight. It saddens me to hear of so many doctors making pregnant women worry over the amount of weight gain. I mean, I don't think you should eat cake and cookies around the clock, but if you eat a balanced diet and gain 40 pounds, that's okay! You know your body best.
@bushelandapeck: maybe it's a sign!! Don't open the envelope, and join Team Green!
@wonderstruck: that's so annoying about not being able to access this one particular thread. Totally weird. Congrats on Baby boy #2! I'm torn on what I'm hoping for...obviously as long as it's a healthy baby, but I kinda want another girl. I have a 13 yr old daughter and a nearly 2 yr old son....and I just think "ruffle butt" is the cutest thing and I'd love to experience it again. But at the same time, I think my son would absolutely love a little bro to mess around with. Guess we'll find out in October!
@bushelandapeck: well, I just finished reading through all the new posts, and I see you DID open the envelope. My pleas were too late...lol. Congrats on (possibly) having a little girl!! I think you are doing the right thing by scheduling another scan. 75% just isn't good enough odds to be "official."
As for me, I had a regular office visit with my doc on Monday. According to their records, I've gained 6 pounds so far (17weeks), but according to my own records, I've only gained 4 pounds....so I guess we'll call it 5 pounds.
it was a quick visit - weigh in, blood pressure, questions, and heart beat. This was my second time hearing the heatbeat during this pregnancy and my husband's first. 144bpm never sounded so lovely. I haven't really felt any movement yet, so it just warms my heart to hear that pitter-patter and know all is well in there. <3. Next Monday is our u/s, but we're still Team Green.

@bunnylovesbear: there was a recall on my B-Agile so they let me trade it in. I think that's the only way they do it unless it's a trade in event. I used the $ toward a new stroller.
@Mrs.Panda: congrats!!!
@Mirage: good luck today!!

@bushelandapeck: congrats! So exciting!
@Mrs.Panda: hooray! It really does seem like there are a lot of girls due this October!
@bunnylovesbear: that sounds like a good appointment, and I totally agree with you on the weight shaming. My doctor's haven't said anything about weight gain yet, one said he doesn't really pay to much attention to that until 20 weeks, because it can carry do much in those first few months depending on how mom feels. I've struggled all my life with my weight, so I'd be grateful for providers who are sympathetic to the fact that I really am doing the best I can!
Thanks to all the well wishes and congrats! We're so happy the wedding went well and more we can focus on our LO!
We've started looking at daycare options, because spots are really limited for infants in our city, and it's just depressing! The one we saw last night was a full $100 a week more expensive than the first one, and it's about 25 minutes out of our way! The only good things were that it's a very nice center (it ought to be, for $400 a week! ) and I get priority on the wait list through work. Right now we're looking at this center as our "safety school", and counting on finding something closer and cheaper soon! The close center we liked has 25 infants on the wait list ahead of us, and we don't want daycare until January! Ack!
