Wow so much exciting stuff going on! I'm on my phone and am too lazy to individually address everyone but I can't believe how fast time has been flying by! I think we have decided on Alexis for our name unless something speaks to us between now and birth. I think I will call her Ally we are waiting until the next ultrasound to paint the walls and announce to the world but I am looking forward to another little girl!

Update, everyone. I am going sewing-crazy. I went out and bought some fabric (https://www.fabric.com/buy/en-082/timeless-treasures-owl-cream?&cm_mmc=Google-_-Products-_-Products%20Listings-_-Ads&CAWELAID=172000510000043976&CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=172000510000043626&cadevice=c&gclid=CPbk6u_2tb4CFQZcfgod-IIAKA) gender neutral? What do you think? It's a little late to be asking now, but whatever. I spent a couple hours cutting it all up, and now I'm in the sewing process. Here are some of the tutorials I'm following if any of you sew, too!

    Car Seat Handle Cushion: http://www.howdoesshe.com/a-real-arm-saver-diy-infant-carrier-handle-cover/

    Car Seat Canopy: http://growingwithgardners.blogspot.com/2012/09/car-seat-covercanopy.html

    No-Sew Crib Skirt: http://thelilhousethatcould.com/2012/06/13/no-sew-crib-skirt/

Practice baby blanket using these two tutorials: http://coconutxoxo.blogspot.com/2012/08/first-time-sewing-with-minky.html and http://www2.fiskars.com/Sewing-Quilting/Projects/Tools-and-Techniques/Sewing-for-Beginners/How-to-Quilt#.U3ef7lhdVpG

Stroller handlebar cover (using velcro): http://www.favecrafts.com/Sewing-for-Kids/Stroller-Handlebar-Cover

Teething Crib Rail (using matching fleece I found): http://momspotted.com/2014/01/no-sew-fleece-tied-teething-crib-rail-cover-tutorial.html

Nursing Pads (using leftover fleece and some PUL): http://www.passionatehomemaking.com/2009/04/homemade-nursing-pads.html

    Burp Cloths: http://www.thinkingcloset.com/2013/03/27/burp-cloth-tutorial-for-the-beginner-sewist/

Then I had just enough left over to try for a Changing Pad Cover: http://asmallsnippet.com/2013/09/diy-changing-pad-cover.html

All the materials cost me about $150 (except for the quilt squares. Since it's just practice, I cut up a bunch of scrap fabrics. I only had to buy the minky materials. I didn't even buy the minky dot since we don't have that on island, and I was too motivated to wait for shipping).

So far I've spent about 2.5 hours (in cutting). Now I'm on to the sewing portion. I sewed the car seat handle cushion, using batting instead of foam since I couldn't find any. It took less than twenty minutes. Then I started on the burp cloths. I spent about an hour on it yesterday (mostly ironing) and predict it will take me another hour today.

I'll try to post pictures when I get more done. If anyone else is crafting, I'd love to hear about it. That was my favorite part of participating on WeddingBee.

    @mrskoloa: lovely fabric!
Crafty/sewing/homemade anything is not for me I'm afraid, I don't seem to have the time or the patience. Hats off to you for doing it, looking forward to seeing the finished products.

@Mrs tartan: My problem is having TOO much time... especially during the summer. I usually teach summer school, but my husband convinced me to take this summer off. It's not even officially summer break here yet, and I'm already feeling antsy! In addition, my husband works 24-hour shifts at the fire station, so when he's away and it's a week end, I get SO bored.

@mrskoloa: Very cute fabric! Wish I could sew, I have a sewing machine and everything I just have no time to learn. I'm currently procrastinating doing an assignment

@Mrs.Panda: try the burp cloth tutorial. That one was written for beginners; you might find it easy to start that way. I learned to see through online tutorials like that, and YouTube!

@mrskoloa: Wow, those look like awesome crafts! I can knit, but am all thumbs with a sewing machine, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do!

And with the Britax- funny thing happened! I wanted to test drive some strollers, so we stopped by Babies R Us last night just to see what was out there. They had a B-Safe/B-Agile travel system that was on deep discount, because it was both a floor model and a color that apparently nobody likes (Sandstone, which is kind of a boring taupe, but hey- it's gender neutral, and I know DH won't feel silly hauling LO around town in that, as opposed to some of the pink seats out there! )

So we ended up making a snap decision and just got it- it was discounted to the point where we were basically paying for the seat and getting a free stroller. And that stroller is so nice! We compared it to others in the store, and it was really easy to maneuver, even one-handed, and the price was too good to pass up.

  11. mrskoloa

    cherry / 242 posts

@Ms.Pumpkin: yes!!!! I thought about the sandstone, too, but my husband really wanted the black. I want to practice rolling it around our neighborhood but my husband says that's something a crazy person would do

  12. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@Ms.Pumpkin: I actually don't mind the sandstone. Amazing deal, I'm pretty jealous! I want the City Select, but I would be all over that B-agile in a heart beat.

@Ms.Mermaid: So I'm weak and bought a bedding set from Pottery Barn Kids (thanks a LOT lol). Now I KNOW I won't really be using the quilt for anything other than decor and *maybe* when LO gets into her toddler years (still probably not) but this was too stinkin' cute to say no. It comes with the quilt, the crib skirt and the crib sheet, no bumper. I will go back and get additional bed sheets a little later. I even jumped the gun and got it personalized with her name. Guess we're sticking to it!

@mrskoloa: the car seat handle cushion and teething crib rail covers are genius!! I might have to give them a shot!! Well, I'll have my Mom do the one that involves and actual sewing machine. Hahahaha.

  14. Ms.Pumpkin

    apricot / 435 posts

@Mrs.Panda, @mrskoloa: When I first saw the Sandstone, I was kind of 'meh' about it, but the more I see it, the more I really do like it!

Also, for anybody else who has the B-safe, the extra infant seat bases are about $20 cheaper on Amazon than they are at BRU.

@Mrs.Panda: Um, that is exactly why I will NOT be browsing Pottery Barn Kids! That is just so cute!

I spent most of today clearing out the nursery (a.k.a., my storage/junk room). Nowhere near done, but at least I'm starting now, before it gets physically difficult to be hauling stuff around! The ceiling fan is this crazy rainbow fan that was the doing of the previous owners, and the entire upstairs carpet needs to be replaced (I dream of hardwood!), but it's doubtful that these things will be happening in the next few months, so I'm going to have to start thinking of what we can do with paint and decor!

@bunnylovesbear: Josephine is on my list too! And we will be using Mae as a middle name after my Nana.
@cyndistar3: That is a very sweet name!
@Mrs.Panda: I LOVE that bedding! So cute!
@mrskoloa: I have absolutely no skills when it comes to crafting but I can't wait to see how yours turn out! I sometimes wish I had a sewing machine just so I could play around but I know I'd probably never use it.

@Mrs.Panda: Awww that is such a cute bedding set! We actually ended up using DS's quilt a lot, our house has laminate flooring with a bug rug in the living space, and when he was sitting up but not crawling I'd put the quilt in the middle of the rug and just plop him on it with some toys.

I used the new baby's name on FB the other day, so I guess ours is official too! Is anyone else feeling movement yet? I'd had a few little flutters these past few weeks, but last night he moved so strongly a few times that I actually yelped/gasped because I was so caught off guard! I had my laptop resting on my stomach (bad, I know) and it actually moved! I was quite surprised, I don't think anything that strong happened until third trimester last time. Apparently he wanted to join the party - yesterday was my DS's first birthday party. Want to see an adorable pic? Okay, twist my arm Sorry guys, I know this isn't at all related to the October 2014 babies...but hey, a year from October we'll all be doing this! Haha. It's so hard to imagine that at his party next year he'll have a little brother - I'm so excited for it though, I hope they'll be best buddies

@wonderstruck: OMG...he is adorable! I love the little car-he looks so happy!

We haven't really narrowed our names down yet...and I'm guessing it will be a while before we do. I have a couple that I love but we'll see.

@MrsKoloa I sew! I love the owl fabric - so happy! I think it's gender neutral! We are going to do some sewing with my sister and my mom soon, so I'm going to check out your tutorials.

@MrsPanda Sorry for enabling! I make baby quilts for friends and they all tell me how much they use them - either as floor mats, or in their pack 'n plays for naps.

  19. mrskoloa

    cherry / 242 posts

Here's what I've accomplished so far... Burp cloths, car seat handle cushion (I did the little ribbons on the side, but you can't tell since I don't have any dangly toys on them), car seat canopy, and stroller handlebar cover.

  20. bushelandapeck

@mrskoloa: those are so cute! I love the owls!

  21. wonderstruck

    pomegranate / 3791 posts

@mrskoloa: Holy crap, you're awesome! I wish I was crafty, but I'm not. I'd just spend money on materials, a bunch of time getting frustrated, and then end up having to buy them anyways after it didn't work out, haha! I mean, I can do easier stuff, and I'm a pretty good painter...but sewing? Nope, not happening.

  22. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

    @mrskoloa: that looks amazing!

@Ms.Mermaid: it's okay I'm actually glad you pointed me there because I was so unsatisfied with other options out there, I actually love the one I bought! I wish I could make quilts. Here is one that I think is gorgeous!

  23. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@wonderstruck: LOL that is EXACTLY what would happen to me. I am a decent artist and am crafty in other ways but sewing is not my strong point.

I think I felt the baby move! I'm a FTM with an anterior placenta so I thought I wouldn't feel anything for a couple more weeks but I think I have started. Is when I'm laying very still and I feel like muscle twitches or painful little shooting type pains near my hip bones or where my cervix is. And then this weird... rolling feeling? I hope this is baby, that would make me so happy!

  24. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@wonderstruck: I've been feeling movement for almost 3 weeks now and it's definitely becoming more noticeable and I can feel it from the outside now as well. DH hasn't felt it yet but I haven't been pointing it out to him either. I was surprised that the kicks/rolls feel so strong already!

Anyone not doing a themed nursery? For DS I just bought what I liked and it ended up being gender neutral and cozy, but doesn't have a ton of decorations or any theme to speak of. This baby will have a slightly larger room (better layout) and it's already painted yellow, but I'm not loving anything I've seen so far. Sigh.

@mrskoloa I love them all! One of the projects on my list is a newborn sling and possibly a carrier like this one - http://www.sewliberated.com/products/mei-tai-baby-carrier-sewing-pattern - I think I have the pattern for it or something similar in her book. I think I'm going to swing by the library this week and see what other options I might have for baby projects!

@mrskoloa: Wow super impressed, sadly I have ZERO sewing skills.
@wonderstruck: OMG too cute!!!! Looks like he really enjoyed that cake, lol
@Mrs.Panda: love the bedding, so feminine
@Ms.Pumpkin: wow what a steal!!! I really like the sandstone color!
I loving all the names so far! We're a little torn, some of the names we like have become so popular lately that we're not sure...our top 3 are Penelope, Addison and Emerson. We'll see!!

@bushelandapeck: I'm really doing more of a gender neutral nursery and just throwing in some pops of color. My style is very eclectic so I don't really have a theme. If baby had been a boy I probably would have chosen less pinks in the sheets and gone for more teals/green/aquas/yellow.

This is a compilation of my Pinterest board for the nursery:

  28. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@cmbknyc: I love Emerson as well but the name popularity scares me a bit too. We know two girls with the name Addison but I love that name too!

I'm into the teals and aquas as well as some gray with pops of color but I'm having such a hard time envisioning anything with the yellow that is currently there. Part of me wants to repaint it, but then I feel bad because we just repainted the room less than two years ago so it feels like a waste of $$.

  29. wonderstruck

    pomegranate / 3791 posts

@bushelandapeck: I'm re-painting ours, I'd just go for it if you think it will make choosing nursery items much easier.

@bushelandapeck: You're feeding into my fears lol...

What kind of yellow is it? Soft or bright?

  33. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@cmbknyc: haha....sorry!! I don't know anyone with the name Emerson, IRL though, so maybe it won't be as popular as I think I never really understood why people kept names a secret until now. With DS we didn't even have to think because he is named after DH and FIL so everyone knew when we found out it was a boy. Now, I feel protective because I don't want anyone to steal it. lol.

As for the yellow....it's similar to this one:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=yellow+wall+colors&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=a1h6U8TCDNGxsASvoYDACw&ved=0CDIQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=795#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=oH6Be7CJhhsWlM%253A%3B4LdBR05fPi3QgM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ikeafans.com%252Fgalleries%252Fimages%252F89882%252Flarge%252F1_yellow-wall.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ikeafans.com%252Fforums%252Fkitchen-planning%252F35512-blue-kitchen-floor.html%3B333%3B500

  34. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@bushelandapeck: I think you can totally do teal and gray with that soft yellow. That actually sounds really cute! What du your movements feel like? Mine aren't the typical butterflies or bubbles, they feel more like a bag of elbows in there!

@cmbknyc: I love the neutral tones of the room. I just feel intuitive the pink and blue because I didn't want anything overly frilly but I still wanted a little girls room because I never got that. I shared my room with my brother when I was really little then shared with my sister when I was a little older, but my parents weren't big on decorating either way because we moved so much in the military.

  35. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs.Panda: Thank you! I might just need to buy a few things and see how it looks in there. I really do like the yellow, but have a hard time trying to picture the room as a nursery! My movements are like rolls/jabs too. She's a mover, just like DS was. Sometimes it actually hurts a little if it happens the wrong way or catches me totally off guard. I'm a little nervous that I'm only halfway there and it's already so strong!

  36. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@bushelandapeck: mine aren't terribly strong, but when I feel the sharp ones like at the top of my cervix it is definitely painful. As for your room, I like to look at fabrics as inspiration. I included some stuff I found in a quick Google search. If you want to compromise, you could just paint a horizontal gray stripe in the middle of the walls all around the room to break up the yellow.

  37. cmbknyc

    kiwi / 630 posts

@bushelandapeck: I love that yellow! It's so happy I agree with @Mrs.Panda, I think greys, teals etc would look great with yellow.

Not sure if this is your style but I was lookinng at sheets and loved this one:http://www.iviebaby.com/collections/frontpage/products/fitted-crib-sheet-in-bright-elephants

@Mrs.Panda:@cmbknyc: Thank you so much! I'll have to take a look at some fabrics for inspiration. I ended up buying DS crib sheets/skirt and changing table cover on Etsy so I'll look there again. Thanks ladies!

@bushelandapeck: FWIW I've only known boy Emersons and only 1 at that, and I worked in a preschool. I heard every name EVAR. You could call her Emmy awwwww

  40. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs.Panda: The other name I like would have Emme as a a nn too...I'm a big fan! My sister is a teacher too and she seemed to think it was more of a boy name but I think it's gender neutral. She is always telling me stories of her students with every name I mention. Lol.
