@bunnylovesbear: woohoo!!! So glad to hear everything is fine and you stayed team green! Good for you!!

@Ms.Mermaid: I agree with it being a bit girly but I am pretty girly myself which is probably why I like it I think you're right about the white furniture too. Thanks!

@bunnylovesbear: such great news! So happy for you, it must have been absolutely nerve wraking waiting for those results! And yes you deserve some sort of a metal, I could never in my life say no to finding out, especially more than once!

Well, we had our anatomy scan yesterday, and I'm so relieved that according to the doctor, everything looks really good in there! And it's been insane comparing the 8-week scan to the 20-week ones... now she looks like a little person!

They also surprised us by switching a little button on the ultrasound machine, which turned the picture into a 3D photo! I'm not sure how I feel about this, as I always felt the 3D ones were more than a little creepy. Now that it's my own child, I then to be kind of cute...and still really kind of creepy! LOL. As DH said at the US, ain't technology crazy?

@bunnylovesbear: yayyyy so glad for you that baby is doing great. Well done on staying team green, I also found it hell saying no to finding out but that's all gone now and at almost 23 weeks I'm glad we still have the biggest surprise still to come. I love gender neutral clothes!
@Ms.Pumpkin: fab new about your scan, your 3d one is crazy! Actually a teeny person there, wow. I had decided not to get one, but yours is very cute, so if there is a good deal locally I might change my mind.

My round ligament pain has faded, what an awful 5 days that was getting through that stabbing pain. I actually took a sick day off work for the first time in my pregnancy as I couldn't move. So glad it's faded in time for us going on our pre-baby holiday next week. Other than that I'm just getting constantly kicked, this baby is so active, I had no idea how often I would feel him/her!

@Ms.Pumpkin: So glad your scan went well! I love the 3D pictures, especially the farther along you are and the more they actually start to look the way they will on the outside. DS looked very much like his last 3D pic I had when I was 36w or so.

@Mrs tartan: Good to hear that your RL pain has subsided! Mine comes and goes as well, and seems to flair up when I'm laying a certain way. I'm dealing with some knee pain today but I think it's because I overdid it with the gym and a lot of walking yesterday.

@Ms.Pumpkin: so cute! I had my anatomy scan today but unfortunately no good profiles. She kept putting her hand in front of her face and trying to suck her thumb. And I don't get the results until the 19th my doctor is on vacation!

I've heard the best time to get the 4d scan is when you are about 30 weeks along because then the baby's face isn't all squished

  10. Ms.Pumpkin

    apricot / 435 posts

@Mrs.Panda: That's so long to wait! And sorry there weren't any good photos, although I think thumb sucking is reeeally cute! We had a similar thing happen at the NT scan- she just wasn't cooperating, and so we don't have any cute profiles from that scan!

@bushelandapeck: I was actually wondering when they started to resemble themselves after birth- at 20 weeks, these babies still have a lot of growing to do, so I imagine their facial features will change quite a bit! How amazing to be able to compare a 3D scan to your newborn and have them look the same!

@Mrs tartan: It was definitely a bonus! And even better my Mom actually really enjoyed seeing the photos from this scan! She has never really understood ultrasounds, can't make heads or tails of them. But the 3D scan was really cool for her to see, which was nice. It would be cool to get a 3D scan later on in the pregnancy, like @bushelandapeck, just to be able to see how similar they are!

Hi ladies I will catch up when I'm not on my phone next week but so happy to read good news all around and loving the scan pics!

We're on a little "babymoon" lol,( such a weird phrase!) in the Florida Keys and an limiting my phone/Internet time. Looking forward to catching up with everyone later in the week!

@cmbknyc: that sounds like fun! Hope you have a great time

How's everyone doing?? I had a regular appt with my OB this morning and all is well. I am scheduled for the glucose test at my next appt (27w), but other than that, nothing too exciting! I have made zero progress on the nursery so that's something I definitely need to start on.

  15. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@bushelandapeck: I was just wondering how everyone was doing! Glad to hear everything is going well I have an appointment tomorrow morning to discuss my blood work from last time and talk about my food diary (yikes!). Three weeks until my final ultrasound and I am getting so impatient! Looks like baby will be rooming with us until further notice because we took in my little sister and she is staying in the room that would have been the nursery.

I was wondering how everyone was doing too!

@bushelandapeck: I completely forgot about the GTT!! GAHHH. I have heard so many horror stories about the taste and not being able to eat I'm sure everyone exaggerates though. So if I get it at 27 weeks I have about 7ish weeks to mentally prepare lol. Please report back on how it is!

@cyndistar3: My little sister lives with me, too. Fortunately we knew it was going to happen before we moved to this house so we had a dedicated room to her. How old is your sister? Hope she's not as infuriating as mine can be

  17. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@Mrs.Panda: How old is your sister? Mine is 15, so far she is just quiet and plays with the kids never thought I'd be putting a kid through high school this early! It was super last minute though, like it went from being an idea to actually happening in just a couple weeks. On another note, I've never had to do the glucose test!

  18. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@cyndistar3: My sister first moved in with me when she was 14, sayed until her last year of high school then moved back in with me last summer at 20 years old. She'll be 22 in October when the baby comes. She is very carefree, let's say lol. Putting her through high school was rough! So I feel your pain.

  19. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@Mrs.Panda: I just left high school 4 years ago, I'm still trying to wrap my head around it lol! I'm hoping she won't give us a hard time

  20. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@cyndistar3: I hope not, too! When I got her I was in the same boat, just graduated like 3-4 years earlier and was in college. My 10 year is coming up! OMG HOW.

  21. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs.Panda: I had it with my son and failed the 1 hour so I had to do the 3 hour. Ugh. The 1 hour honestly wasn't too bad, but the 3 hour was awful. I was told to eat a normal b-fast before coming in (I am going early in the AM) so hopefully I will pass this time! My OB said you can take the test anywhere between 26-29 weeks.

@cyndistar3: That's so great of you to take in your sister! I hope that it isn't too stressful on you and she doesn't give you a hard time!

  22. mrskoloa

    cherry / 242 posts

@bushelandapeck: Glucose test?? Is that to check for gestational diabetes? If it's anywhere between 26-29 weeks, I imagine my dr. will schedule it for 28 weeks, since I go in every four weeks anyway. Can't believe it will be 6 months next week!

@cyndistar3: I don't think it will be too bad having baby room with you... at first. How long does your sister plan on staying?

@Mrs.Panda: At least you know what to expect when it comes to raising teens!

In my world, I've just been sewing sewing sewing since it is summer break. I convinced my husband that we needed to take a trip SOMEWHERE at least, and he finally acquiesced to a two week trip to the continent. In a couple weeks we'll be visiting Boston, Manhattan, and Washington, D.C. Any tips you guys?

  23. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@mrskoloa: At this point we are getting guardianship of her and as long as she is okay with being here she can stay. Hoping to get her through high school

  24. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@mrskoloa: yes. I opted to make my next appointment for 5 weeks instead of 4 so that's why mine is a little later. I am so over the appointments! We live just north of Boston so I'll start thinking of places you should visit! How many days will you be here?

  25. Ms.Pumpkin

    apricot / 435 posts

@bushelandapeck: Doing pretty well! It kind of feels like this is a fairly long stretch of pregnancy where there's nothing major going on- thankfully! It feels nice to have a few weeks/months of feeling pretty good before the 3rd trimester kicks in!

I haven't heard about my glucose test, but my next appt is at 24 weeks, so I'm sure they'll have me schedule it then. I am scheduled to go on vacation around 26 weeks- I'm wondering if I should schedule the glucose test for afterwards? Kind of selfish, but if I am diagnosed with GD, it would be good to know after, just so I'm not navigating new dietary changes while on vacation! My blood sugar has always been pretty normal, so I'm hoping that I don't have it, but you can never tell!

@mrskoloa: I used to live in DC, and still work there! Let me know what you guys are interested in seeing/doing, and I can think of some things, especially some good restaurants.

  26. Ms.Mermaid

    kiwi / 745 posts

@MrsKoloa What kinds of things do you like to do when you travel? I'm from DC and heartily recommend the Smithsonian museums, because they are free and pretty cool, but they aren't everyone's thing - I particularly like Air and Space and American History. Plus the Zoo. The Spy museum and Newseum are both museums you have to pay for, but I've heard amazing things about both of them. I have also heard great things about the botanical gardens and the National Arboretum. If you are active, there are plenty of great trails and DC has bikeshare so you can rent bikes to get from here to there (the first half hour is free) and the roads have gotten pretty bike-friendly. Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and Dupont Circle are kind of the hip areas to go out, although U-Street and Shaw are both becoming much more trendy and have undergone pretty amazing transformations from when I last worked in DC 10 years ago. Eastern Market is a cool place to check out as well.

@bushelandapeck: I had an ultrasound and a doctor's appointment this week. They said that everything looks perfect, so I couldn't ask to hear anything better than that! Oh, and after extreme morning sickness I'm finally back up to my pre-pregnancy weight (although somehow I still look pretty pregnant., I carry low so it makes my whole stomach/hips/butt area look kind of huge) so that's good. I also have made zero progress on the nursery - once my mom starts summer vacation she'll come play with my son while I work on it, so I'm stalling until then.

@Mrs.Panda: I've never understood all the talk about not eating for the glucose test - I've always been told to just eat normally that day. I mean, be sensible, don't smother your pancakes with syrup that morning or eat a bag of skittles on your way in, but I didn't have to fast. They don't schedule the test at my office though, they just give you the stuff along with instructions, and you go into the lab and do it whatever day you feel like it, they just gave me a range of dates to get it done within.

@cyndistar3: Good luck with your sister! Sounds hectic but I hope it all works out.

@Ms.Pumpkin: Even if you know during your vacation that you failed the 1 hour, they won't verify whether or not you actually have gestational diabetes until they have you go back for the 3 hour test. Just so you know.

  28. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@wonderstruck: glad to hear your appointment went well and you are feeling better! Having extended morning sickness must have been awful, especially chasing a little one around.

I looked at some nursery furniture yesterday so I guess that's a step in the right direction. We are having a heck of a time agreeing on names though....DH has a completely different idea about what he likes and there doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground. Ugh. Who knew it would be so tough!

  29. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@wonderstruck: that's so strange, everyone I've heard from says they fasted. That would be awesome not to have to!

So everyone I am thinking of changing OBs. I like the doctor fine but he works alone and is currently in his second vacation since the start of my pregnancy. I worry that he will be gone or busy during my delivery and won't have anyone but a hospitalist covering for him. Also his staff is less than desirable. The MAs are kind of rude and act very inconvenienced when you call or ask a question. There is one MA that I'm fine with but I haven't seen her the last two times. The final straw was when I got my anatomy scan last week and was told by the clinic to give my OB a call to see if the images were good enough to read everything or if I would have to go back. She said to call on Wednesday as they should have them by then and not to wait because even a two week difference would make me have to redo the whole thing (and pay another $100 copay!). The imaging clinic is in the same building as the OB so I stopped by to get the second trimester blood work script they failed to give me the last appointment. The MA just wanted to hand me the script and seemed very put out when I told her what the ultrasound tech said about the images. She said the doctor was in the next week but he was going on vacation the following week (this was last Friday). I called this last Wednesday to check and see if the images were okay and they never called me back. Now he's gone for two weeks.

The doctor is nice but he always seems rushed. I don't know what to do I made an appointment with another office but they won't see me until the beginning of July. I have my next appointment in June 19th and I kind of want to drive to the new office right after and sign a medical release form. DH says he likes the doctor but it's up to me. I hate stirring the pot especially since I'm in medical field!

  30. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs.Panda: I would say switch if you aren't happy with how things are going. I would be especially upset that he didn't call you about the images before going on vacation. I'm having a difficult time with my OB as well and will likely be switching to another person in the practice after my next appointment.

  31. wonderstruck

    pomegranate / 3791 posts

@Mrs.Panda: Maybe they've been doing the three hour test? Or maybe their doctors are just weird, haha. I know I've seen people say that too, but both of my doctors, along with the American Pregnancy Association and the National Library of Medicine say to eat normally, that fasting isn't necessary. Strange! http://americanpregnancy.org/prenataltesting/glucosetest.html
    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/007562.htm

I hate it when different doctors say different things, especially about things like this - I wish there was more of a consensus! Makes it so tempting to go crazy researching and analyzing with Dr. Google, haha.

My pretty unimpressive 20 week bump I'm sick of just looking fat!

  36. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs.Panda: you so not look fat! I was barely showing at all with DS at 20w. I'm just stretched out now already you look great!

  37. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@Mrs.Panda: You definitely don't look fat, that is a perfectly normal look! That's how mine looked the first time too, now everything's loose and falling at incredible speeds. The bright side is you won't look like you're due with triplets by the time you are 6 months pregnant

  38. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@bushelandapeck: @cyndistar3: haha thanks ladies. I'm a size 16/18 so it's all relative, I feel huge! Luckily I haven't gained a pound through this whole thing but I know I have plenty of time to change that.

  39. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@Mrs.Panda: I am a size 18/20 (more towards the 20's) so I get it. I've yet to gain anything yet too but I'm remaining cautiously optimistic because I know I could gain like 10 lbs in a week haha!

  40. Ms.Pumpkin

    apricot / 435 posts

@Mrs.Panda: I agree with the other ladies- you look great!

    Everyone's bumps look awesome! @cyndistar3 & @bushelandapeck, looking good!

I'll try to get a photo at some point... I totally thought I'd be doing bump photos, but I think I'm way too forgetful!

I'm still working on clearing out the nursery so we can paint, but I'm having a hard time thinking about colors! Maybe you ladies can give some suggestions!

The one decoration that will definitely be going in the nursery is this wall hanging. DH and I were both volunteers in Africa before meeting (but in different regions), and one of his friends in Benin gave him this quilt. It's fun and colorful, but I want a nice color for the walls that will provide a contrast, will be bright & cheerful, but won't 'compete,' if that makes any sense? I was thinking maybe a pale aqua or dove gray? Any suggestions?
