@bushelandapeck: We'll be in Boston for three full days. I bought tickets to a Red Sox game, and printed out Frommer's Boston in Three Days. We're staying in the North End. I heard there's good food there?

@Mrs.Panda: I would swap. You're paying for a service, and your satisfaction is most important.

@Ms.Mermaid: @Ms.Pumpkin: We'll be in WADC for three full days. We're staying around Dupont Circle. We like to eat and people watch... generally we're up for anything. One of our state senator's office is giving us a tour of the Capitol. It was too late for us to get a White House tour. I also reserved us tickets to the Holocaust museum. We like to look at unique things but I'm worried we'll get museum-ed out! We're relying on public transportation, probably the metro, to get to anywhere we need to be.

@mrskoloa: great food in the North End! We love Fiore and Bacco. You should check out Newbury St and the Boston Public Gardens too. The Freedom Trail is fun too, and would I've you a good tour of the main parts of the city.

Hi girls, just checking in to see everyone is fine, and I see you all are. I'm 24 weeks today, I feel like I've hit a massive milestone as my baby app tells me that 24 weeks is the stage where baby could live if born early (obviously with massive medical intervention) but feels like a nice day to me
We are still in Portugal on holiday, DH and I are savouring this last bit of couple time and peace. Anyway since we are sharing bump pics, this is me yesterday at 23+6. In the evening I still swell up, no idea why bump looks much smaller day!

@Mrs tartan: Beautiful bump! I hope you are really enjoying your vacation and the start to viability! I've always felt like 24w was sort of the "magic" number to get to. I can't wait to be there next week!

@mrskoloa: You're right- 3 days of solid museum-ing would wear anybody out! Since you're in Dupont, you'll be relatively centrally located. I love eating lunch out in the Circle on lovely days- just sit out by the fountain and people watch, especially if you're going to be there on a weekend!

In terms of restaurants, a lot of the folks I know in DC have recently been raving about Le Diplomate- it's in Logan Circle, which is a few blocks directly east of Dupont, so it should actually be walkable for you guys- http://lediplomatedc.com From what I hear, it's pretty busy right now, so it's probably worth calling before you get into town for a reservation.

One great (and free!) thing to do is to go to the Kennedy Center- every day at 6pm they have free concerts open to the public. You don't have to get a ticket ahead of time, you show up early and I believe it's first come first serve. The schedule is here: http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/schedule.html

I love the Kennedy Center, and this is a great way to get inside and see the theater itself without having to pay. But if there's a show that you want to see there, I'd recommend it- I saw Wicked there a few years ago, and it was great- the theater itself is gorgeous, and it's just a fun experience.

In terms of nightlife, H Street NE is a recent hotspot- it's off the beaten path, and still in a very developing neighborhood, so I'd recommend taxis, just for safety & convenience. But lots of bars (Rock & Roll Hotel, The Pug), restaurants (Granville Moore's- amazing mussels and Belgian beers, Toki Underground for ramen, The Argonaut).

    Have fun!

Well, I just finally had a moment to read through all I've missed over the past few days. It's been a busy time...the end of the school year always is, and I have little energy left by the time I am able to sit down on the couch and relax! Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Everyone looks great, too!! I think I have a pic saved on my phone, so maybe I'll upload that a little later.

Not too much is new on my end. I had a regular office visit last Thursday, and after the ONE HOUR wait to be seen (ridiculous!! especially since I had my DS with me), we found out everything is looking good. Nice heatbeart of 140bpm. Had a quick internal exam to check on my cervix, and it's still closed, which is a good thing. I have a follow-up ultrasound to check the size of my cervix on Friday. By that point it will be 2.5 weeks since the last u/s check, so I'm hoping things have stayed the same. This Friday is field day at work (an all-day outdoor end-of-the-year fun event for the kids) so I'm a bit nervous about all that activity. I emailed my principal asking to come up with a plan, as I will not be able to be on my feet all day, but I haven't heard back yet. A friend at work offered to supervise my class for the day, so if he doesn't get back to me, that's my plan...

@bushelandapeck: that's what I keep hearing! The freedom trail is definitely on my list of things to do... Boston is the walking city after all...

@Mrs tartan: so so so so cute! Loving the suit!

@Ms.Pumpkin: thank you for your advice!! I'll see what I can do about that restaurant. Live music sounds awesome, too. We're used to it here, but mostly with reggae/jawaiian bands. It will be nice to hear something different.

@bunnylovesbear: hopefully your principal is understanding! Standing all day in the sun, managing kids... I hope your coworker can pull through if anything.

Here is my 24 week photo:

@mrskoloa: yeah, I hope so too! He's usually pretty good, just not the best about responding to emails quickly. Lol.

Oh, and I just realized I never uploaded my pic earlier. The most recent one I have is kinda old...from 3-4 weeks back, so I'm thinking 18/19 weeks along. I'm already in bed, but I'll try to remember to take a new pic tomorrow.

So many cute bumps! I am finally feeling baby movement from the outside now, I can't believe it took this long but I guess I have a bit more padding than last time so it should have been expected. 2 more weeks until our final u/s, I can't wait!!!

I've been reading "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems" by Ferber. Has anyone used his method with success? I think it's so interesting. I found this website that breaks down the method, if you're not familiar: http://seattlelearningcenter.com/solve-your-childs-sleep-problems-book-summary/

  11. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@mrskoloa: you look great! I can't believe how small you still are! I guess maybe there is something to getting bigger the second time. I feel huge! As for the Ferber stuff...I read just about everything there was to read about sleep when DS was 6 months or so. He ended up not being a good fit for CIO (neither was I honestly) so we did a different program called Sleep Sense. The issue for us was the sleep associations he had developed (rocking to sleep, nursing to sleep) so once we cut those things out he slept much better. He didn't fully STTN until 9 months but since then he has been pretty good. I feel like a lot of it is baby's temperament and we've found that to be very true for DS. He's very high energy and doesn't have a high sleep need (unfortunately)! I'm going to try to be less crazy about figuring it all out this time around because I really drove myself crazy last time.

@bunnylovesbear: looking great! Love the grocery cart in the background I hope your u/s on Friday goes well!

  12. mrskoloa

    cherry / 242 posts

@bushelandapeck: That's just my daytime bump. My nighttime bump is HUGE! Probably gas. Anyways, I don't think I could do CIO, either, which is why I kind of liked the Ferber method, since it talked a lot about sleep associations and checking on the baby without stimulating him or her. I'll look into Sleep Sense, next.

@bunnylovesbear: we have a red one in our living room too! If only he would actually use it and not just play with it lol

@mrskoloa: yeah, the sleep associations were huge for DS. Even now, at 22 months, he likes to have certain things and a pretty specific routine for bedtime.

@bushelandapeck: thank you, had a wonderful holiday. You are right 24 weeks does feel like the magic number to me too. @bunnylovesbear: good luck at your us today, I hope there are no changes, keep us updated. Lovely bump.
@mrskoloa: you look so tiny in your bump pics, super cute. I hear you on the bump swelling at night, mine gets so much bigger later in the evenibg!

So tell me about your maternity leave plans everyone?
Ill be 36 weeks when I start mine (end aug) and taking 10 months off. 14 weeks on full pay which will take me through to Xmas, then SMP payments (around 1/3 of my normal wage) until July, ill be going back to work part time from July 1st to oct 1st then starting up full time again. DH and I are saving up about 500 a month just now to make this work! In the UK this has to be agreed by the 25 week mark so that's it all finalised now.

  16. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs tartan: Not sure yet if I will go back to work or not. I stayed home with DS for 9 months and would love to take 6 months this time, but I technically only get 12 weeks, and only 6 of those are paid at 60% through short term disability. I'm fortunate to only be working part time as it is, but I really don't want to go back at 12 weeks. I've already mentioned my desire to take am extended leave to my supervisor and she wasn't very responsive to the idea. We don't actually need my income so I have the option of staying home, but I do like my job, so we'll see what happens.

  17. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

I should be getting about 11 weeks at 80% pay through short term disability and will take a week of PTO for a total of 12 weeks. I will then be going back to work part time because of school.

  18. bunnylovesbear

    kiwi / 600 posts

@bushelandapeck: We've been surprisingly successful with no-pants-parties. Lol. We basically keep him bottomless all morning when we're home, and he runs over to potty to pee. More often than not, he actually goes on the potty, not the floor. However, if there's a diaper on, he just goes.

@Mrs tartan: Not sure how realistic my maternity plans are. School gets out on June 23rd, so I'll be off all summer. I'm hoping to be able to go back to school for the month of September and officially start my maternity leave on Sept 26th. Then I'll stay out through Feb vaca and head back on Feb. 23rd. 40 of those days will be paid (using my accrued sick days) and the rest will be unpaid. As long as this little one stays put and I don't get put on official bed rest (opposed to the "light duty" I'm currently on) then this plan will work. If not, I'll have to return to work sooner because in order for the year to count towards my retirement, raise, etc. I need to be in school for 90+ days of the school year. I wish I knew about short term disability sooner. I never realized it included maternity coverage, so I never had it. I got info on it earlier this year, but it was too late - I was already pregnant at that point, so my pregnancy wouldn't be covered if I enrolled in the plan. siiigh. You know what they say about hindsight...

In other news, my appointment went well yesterday. The issues with the bowel and chloride plexus cyst have gone away. What a relief! So we now have positive blood tests results AND no more cysts. They also did a cervix check, and while it did decrease in size slightly (down to 2.1cm), they are still saying it's stable because it was not a significant change. So over the past almost month, it's gone from 2.3cm to 2.1cm. I'm not really sure where it SHOULD be at this point, but I'm just following the doctor's lead and trusting that all is fine.

Trying to think of some questions we can answer, along the lines of other DD Threads about getting to know each other. Feel free to add/modify any of these!

    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri?

    2) How are you sleeping?

    3) Any babymoon plans?

    4) Anything you are looking forward to?

  22. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@bunnylovesbear: Your bump is adorable, you definitely don't look huge!

    Woo-hoo for questions! I'll play
    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri? I haven't actually been exercising but I've been outside a lot... I think chasing around two crazy kids is exercise enough and I don't plan on stopping that any time soon.

    2) How are you sleeping? Decent but I have a bit of trouble getting comfortable and I have lots of crazy, vivid dreams.

    3) Any babymoon plans? Nope! In August or early September we plan on taking a family trip to California to visit family though.

    4) Anything you are looking forward to? I am looking forward to this next Tuesday to get the final word on gender!

    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri?
I did a triathlon at 16 weeks and I have a sprint distance race coming up in August (it's low key and slow-person friendly, so I'm planning to walk the 5k and it's a pool swim) but it's keeping me active. I've been able to get to the gym 2-3x a week, and I try to run on the weekends and maybe once during the week and I think we're going to start taking evening walks more.

    2) How are you sleeping? OK for now. My sister got me a Snoogle for my birthday and that's helping some.

    3) Any babymoon plans? We're going to CA in August to see some friends - but otherwise we don't really have any plans. I kind of just want to do a weekend at the beach in maybe September.

    4) Anything you are looking forward to? Getting the nursery all setup!

  24. bunnylovesbear

    @bushelandapeck: Thank you!

    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri? No exercising here...doctor's orders. However, if we're being honest, I probably wouldn't be exercising either way. Haha.

    2) How are you sleeping? I've been sleeping great...My husband, on the other hand, not so much. He's been taking one for the team and sleeping on the couch. Since he snores, he's been giving me the bedroom because I wake so easily while pregnant.

    3) Any babymoon plans? We're heading to Meredith, NH for a week in August. We have a wedding at Lake Winnipesaukee, so instead of renting a hotel room for $350+/night, we decided to rent a house for the whole week and make a little vaca out of it.

    4) Anything you are looking forward to? YES! School is out in less than a week, so I'm looking forward to sleeping in a little later and spending more time with my kids at home!!

  25. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@cyndistar3: Looking forward to hearing the final verdict!
@Ms.Mermaid: wow, a triathlon! Good for you!!
@bunnylovesbear: I think I've told you this but my husband and I grew up near Meredith and that's where we married as well! You will love it!

    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri? I have been going to the gym 3-4 days/week pretty consistently and I definitely notice a difference in my energy levels and mood the days I go so I'm going to try to keep up with it to the end.

    2) How are you sleeping? Eh, okay. I have some mild insomnia at baseline and pregnancy definitely makes it a little worse. I have felt pretty refreshed in the mornings though, so I'm happy with that.

    3) Any babymoon plans? We are headed to Bretton Woods, NH for our anniversary in August and I am hoping to find someone to watch DS while we are there. If so, I will call that our babymoon

    4) Anything you are looking forward to? I'm 24 weeks today-viability! I have been looking forward to this for a few weeks and it feels good to finally be here. Other than that, I am looking forward to starting to piece together the nursery. I finally ordered some bedding this morning! Woohoo!

Hi ladies, between our little babymoon, work, projects and family visits I barely had time for the internet but now that I can breathe again it's lovely to be back! Your baby bumps are ADORABLE!!!!

    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri? I've been very bad, I generally walk a lot bec we live in the city and don't own a car but haven't been as active as I should. I'm going to aim for 3 days a week at the gym and some prenatal yoga.

    2) How are you sleeping? Not bad, I missed my body pillow while traveling but so far it's been pretty restful.

    3) Any babymoon plans? Went to Islamorada in the Florida Keys a few weeks ago it was nice to just lay by the pool and do nothing!

    4) Anything you are looking forward to? They are delivering the crib and dresser today so very excited to start seeing the nursery come together!

@bushelandapeck: Yes, I do remember you mentioning that. I didn't remember you grew up around there, but I knew you loved the area. The wedding is at Church Landing at Mill Falls. I can't wait...a little bummed that I have to stay alcohol-free all night, though!!

    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri?

I've recently this week developed spd, I'm struggling to walk and drive and work, exercise apart from kegels is an absaloutely no no for me just now. Really really missing dog walking

    2) How are you sleeping?

Wonderfully up until 4 days ago, now uncomfortably in my side with a pillow between my knees, but still managing.

    3) Any babymoon plans?

Just come back from a week in Portugal, no other plans in the pipeline, too much to do and so little time!

    4) Anything you are looking forward to?

Just baby getting here safe and sound. At only 25+4 I'm already uncomfortable and ready to be done with being pregnant. Humph. Maybe I'm just having a bad week!

    More questions:
How many weeks are you now?
Do you have any stretch marks or new symptoms developing?
Has DH felt the baby move?

I'm almost 26 weeks, only new thing is this spd which I'm getting a pelvic belt for, DH has been feeling baby for around 3 weeks now.

  32. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@bunnylovesbear: I'm using someone local this time. For Charlie we used our wedding photographer but she's in NH and it was quite a drive at only 9 days old!

How many weeks are you now? 24w2d

Do you have any stretch marks or new symptoms developing? Nope! I didn't have any with DS either so I'm hoping to keep it that way.

Has DH felt the baby move? Yes. He was able to feel her a couple of weeks ago.

  33. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs tartan: so sorry about the SPD! My BFF had that with her last pregnancy and was pretty miserable. She ended up doing some PT for it that helped some. Does your OB have any suggestions??

  34. Mrs tartan

    kiwi / 656 posts

@bushelandapeck: thanks, no real suggestions apart from sleeping with a pillow between my knees, the cure is to give birth and I'm obviously not ready for that for a while yet! I just don't want to be signed off work, I want to stay as long as I can.
I have PT again on Friday so shall see what they say!

Isn't it funny how quiet this board has got, we are all just so used to regular pregnant life now, at the start of this board you couldn't miss it for an hour and there would be so much chat to catch up in, now we have breaks which are days long!

  35. bunnylovesbear

@bushelandapeck: oh yeah, I remember now. If I recall correctly, the person was relatively close to my parents cottage in Farmington, NH right? Have you decided on a local photog yet? I'm looking into it now, and would love suggestions!

How many weeks are you now? Well, that depends on which due date you go by... I'm between 23+4weeks and 24+1weeks. Lol.

Do you have any stretch marks or new symptoms developing? No, I haven't noticed any new stretch marks this time around. I've been getting heartburn at night, but other than that, all is well.

Has DH felt the baby move? Yup. I think that makes it all so much more real for him. Between my very noticeable baby bump and now feeling it move, there's no denying there's a baby in there!

    1) Are you hoping to increase or keep up with exercise now that we are in the middle/end of the second tri?

I'm hoping to increase because I've been doing diddly squat so far, aside from work which wipes me out for a while.

    2) How are you sleeping?

I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep then nap during they day. Partially baby, partially working overnights. Crazy dreams!

    3) Any babymoon plans?

We are leaving on ours tomorrow morning! Jamaica for a week. So excited

    4) Anything you are looking forward to?

Holding this little baby in my arms. More immediately, finishing this terrible semester.

    5) How many weeks are you now?

Depending on the due date, 22+1 or 21+6. I usually go by the first one.

    6) Do you have any stretch marks or new symptoms developing?

I'm genetically predisposed to stretch marks (softest skin EVER but also really easily scarred) so I've had some stretch marks from gaining weight. Nothing new though. As far a symptoms, I get heartburn where I never did before and some food just doesn't agree with me. Also I can't eat as much at once as I used to.

    7) Has DH felt the baby move?

He felt her move once when he was resting his cheek on my belly and she kicked him right in the face. I'm looking forward to her getting stronger and kicking him some more!
