Well, I made it thru till 2 days shy of 13 weeks without actually getting sick. then spent last night puking. Thought I had turned a corner and was starting to feel better but guess not. Even said to hubby before bed that I thought I might try to work out today. Ummm no.

@whiskers: we could know but we are waiting till we're able to have a gender reveal party. Probably will be another month before we can get people together. I thought I'd be more anxious to find out, but really not so. Looking forward to purchasing gender specific items, but we have time for that.

@whiskers: I was so anxious to make sure the NIPT came back ok that I almost lost sight of finding out the sex. As for the patience, that probably comes from all the years of infertility and IVF. A month seems like nothing compared to all the waiting the last 2 + years.
Looking forward to our appointment tomorrow afternoon. Not sure what they plan to do at this appointment but always nice to know all is moving along without issue. Maybe they can give me some insight on these terrible headaches

I know that the various NIPT tests are offered by different companies but does anybody know if one test is supposed to be better than others. I have my first official doctor's appointment on Friday and I guess my doctor's office just hands out a piece of paper with different places you can go for the various tests and then you just make an appointment and go. I'm in a major city so I'm fairly certain I can get any of the big tests so I'm just trying to figure out whether they are all essentially the same or whether some test for more issues, etc. I think the most convenient place offers the MaterniT21 Plus test. Does anybody know much about this?

@Shantuck: I was told that Mat21 (the one I did) was the "most complete" test, though I don't really know in the end. One nurse said, "oh good, you're getting Mat 21. It tests for all of the regular things [trisomies] plus microdeletions." I didn't really ask more because my out-of-pocket was going to be the same with all of them, but maybe there is some validity to it. Curious to hear what others have to say.

@Shantuck: I think Mat21 is pretty good. You can go to each of their websites and see what all they test for and compare. Your doctor will probably be able to tell you. I got 2 different ones last pregnancy, I *think* Mat21 and Panorama. My current doctor only offers panorama but they are working on getting Mat21.

I can't wait to find out the gender, our practice now offers gender scans at 16 weeks it's $100 I know risky, but I want to know soooo bad....lol

@Shantuck: @whiskers: Like whiskers, I got the panorama test since it was compatible with multiples. I haven't seen the results with my own eyes so I'm not sure exactly what it tests for or what info comes back, but I looked online and it seemed to cover a lot.
This is the link to the panorama test info. http://www.panoramatest.com/en/expecting-parents/about-panorama

@Shantuck: My OB is similar - handed me a few flyers with various options/companies. They said Panorama is the one they use most often and is most often covered or partially covered (she said max to pay is $150) - so that's what I went with. They all seemed somewhat similar to me. Still waiting for the results...any day now!

@waiting4you: Good luck with the headaches! Hope your doctor can recommend something that provides relief. I am also suffering from awful migraines (had them pre-pregnancy too, but they are much worse now and unmedicated...ugh). Today I tried acupuncture for the first time - crossing my fingers that it will help reduce the frequency/intensity. My nausea and fatigue felt improved almost immediately, but it could be my imagination (I'll take it either way!)

@Shantuck: popping in to say that my genetic counsellor recommends Panorama so that's what I did last time and will do again this week. Panorama does more than just the typical sex chromosomes and trisomies now. It also does microdeletions and conditions such as Cri du Chat. You do have to pay extra for those, at least in my case I do. I'm in Ontario.

Well, part one of the scary week is done. The baby didn't stop moving the entire time so no great pictures. Nuchal measurement was 1.39 which doctor said was great & everything appears on track via scan - now the long wait (7-10 days) for genetic testing to come back. So nervous!

@jaguar: wow, super clear u/s!! I'm jealous! We have an appointment today and I'm expecting a gray fuzzy terrible resolution pic. Congrats on a great step 1, and praying for great NIPT results.

Cross-posted from September:
I had my 14 week appointment today! Everything is fine, baby had a heartbeat of 150, and all my first trimester labs came back great! They told me to keep doing whatever it is that I'm doing. I also lost a pound, but they are not concerned because I started out heavier this time.
My next appointment is May 17 for my early elective glucose tolerance test and my anatomy scan! In six weeks I'll know if this is a he or a she!

@jaguar: I feel you on the NIPT nerves. Today is exactly a week for me so I am literally staring at the phone non-stop, willing it to ring. I'm 50% terrified/nervous and 50% excited because of the gender component. Waiting.....
@avivoa: congrats on the great news!

@jaguar: So cute!
@waiting4you: Have a great appointment and a fun time watching the screen!
@avivoca: Yay for a good appointment. My a/s is May 6. And I have another OB appointment in between that but I'm going to need to switch OBs (midwives don't take my insurance ) so that will change... They want me to come in every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, then it's every 2. That seems like a lot more than you! I guess every place is different.
@TapDancer: Hope you can distract yourself until then!

@Amorini: that sucks! We pushed my appt. back a couple of weeks just so I could do everything in one appointment.

@avivoca: Good idea! I am going to the peri for the a/s, so I guess I'll do two appointments anyway.

Just got back from my 13 week appt. Everything's looking good. I have my big ultrasound scheduled for May 2nd. My entire family is on the edge of their seat waiting to see if the baby's a girl or boy. (They're hoping for a girl) The doctor scheduled that quicker than I was expecting. Very excited!

@avivoca: Thanks hun, me too! xx I can't believe you're 14 weeks already! I am doing an early GTT at some point soon too.
@waiting4you: Well, the 3D pic was cute, but the profile/typical ultrasound shots were SO bad. Except for a cute little alien skull face, haha.
@TapDancer: Aaaah, that will be me next week. I hope you hear back soon!!!
@TFrances: Glad everything is looking good! x

Appointment today was a bit frustrating. Waited about 45 mins to be seen. And I swear everyone who walked thru the door after us got seen before us. Finally got in the room and the dr was giving us a hard time about waiting so long to find out the sex. Which made me super annoyed with hubby since it's his schedule that is preventing us from having a gender reveal for another 6 weeks. He's also not being very helpful as to giving me a date when we CAN have it. He can spend ALLLLL his time on his phone on Facebook and whatnot but if I ask him to just check his calendar on his phone he gets all fussy and can't be bothered.
Anyway, got to see the dr and she says that because I just had an u/s with the Peri about 10 days ago that I don't need another. Got to hear heartbeat but no visual. Was really disappointed, especially after waiting so long to be seen and then have a 10min appointment with no u/s. next appointment isn't till may 11th now. Kinda anxious about the long gap.

@waiting4you: I'm so sorry that you had a frustrating appointment! The doctor shouldn't give you a hard time. It's your baby, you can look at that part of those results whenever you want and it shouldn't matter if you wait! The long gap will pass before you know it!

I got my NIPT results back yesterday - a week exactly from when I did the blood work. The nurse called at 4pm while I was on a conference call for work, and I dropped the conf call mid-sentence! All is good - everything came back as low risk (so relieved). And....it's a boy! I am shocked. I honestly didn't have a preference either way, but had only ever envisioned a girl. Going to have to wrap my mind around this one. Very happy though. I'll be 12 weeks on Sunday, so good milestones all around.
Whew. Hope you all waiting for results get them quickly!

@winniebee: @thepicklemonster: @avivoca: Thank you! I am hearing so many great things about being a boy mom, getting excited
@thepicklemonster: Hope the day flies by for you. I kept telling myself that the nurse probably wouldn't call until the end of the day (since they're running around all day) - and that helped me relax and not stare at the phone as much

@TapDancer: Yay! Congrats on the good news! I'll admit that when I was pregnant last time around, I really wanted a girl. However, I had a boy and I will say that I love being a boy mom as well. I have such a little mama's boy, which I am really loving right now!

@Shantuck: Thanks, that makes me feel better. I don't think I realized how much I had envisioned a girl until I saw the results say - jaw dropped! Which is silly, because there's obviously a strong 50% chance. I was also surprised at how REAL it suddenly felt.
We are letting out out-of-town close family know the gender by sending them a little something in the mail. We didn't tell many about the testing process/timing, so they'll be surprised to receive this news in their mailboxes

Just a heads up for those of you that are team green, make sure to let you dr know. I found out yesterday that the information was in my profile page on my patient portal. Had I logged in I would have seen the gender. Once I told the dr she set something in the system so it won't show anywhere when I'm logged in.
