@googly-eyes: It's ok, that was my first post on the Sept thread. End of week 18, September 23!

Oh cool, I'm somewhere between 9/14-9/18 but the doc uses 9/18 so we are very close!

@ Googly-eyes: Movement is still inconsistent for me. I can normally feel it around the same time on most days but there are definitely days that there is less or I'm not sure if I've felt anything at all. I think also we get used to feeling it so we don't notice it as much as at first. It totally freaks me out though, especially when you add in the spotting. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the remaining 20 weeks!

The only thing we've bought so far is the Poang rocker from Ikea because I didn't want to get stuck with a typical glider. Our place is so tiny it will have to go in the living room and I'm not totally convinced I like it so we may still return it. Otherwise, I'm more interested in getting some home improvement items checked off the list. It's going to be a busy spring & summer!

@Musicav: Welcome! I also feel the movement a bit below my belly button, usually on the left side but sometimes in the middle. Yesterday I felt a kick upwards around my belly button and it hurt! I guess we all have more of that to look forward to.

@Skipra: Until recently, I had only been feeling the kicks/punches really low, too (definitely below my belly button). At my 20 week a/s, the Doc told me butterbean was head down. During an u/s today at 22 weeks (I was admitted to L&D due to pre-term labor symptoms, i.e., cramping, spotting, although it was bright red, low back pain, etc.), the Doc told me she was breech. I was wondering if she had moved/ changed position because this weekend (and today), I felt her kicks/punches much higher up (around belly button height).

Regarding the pre-term labor . . . everything is okay, and butterbean is still firmly in the oven, so to speak. I am just supposed to keep an eye on things, and to make sure I don't push myself. During the initial exam, it took the nurse almost a minute to get a heartbeat . . . I swear that was the longest minute of my life. DH is quite the cool cucumber, and even his face got paler as the seconds continued to tick by. One day at a time . . . just so, so grateful that everything was okay. To say I feel lucky is such an understatement!

@Musica: I hope your a/s went well, and that the tech was more outgoing.

@MsLipGloss: That must have been scary! Glad to hear that things are okay

I feel movement/kicking all over. I had an u/s at 19 & 20 weeks and the first one she was head up, second was head down. I think they move all around for awhile!

Oops, it's been a while since I checked in. We had our a/s a couple weeks ago, and we did our gender reveal with the family (my grandfather cut into the cake for his birthday) so I'm free to share...we're adding another girl to this board! I was so sure that we were having a boy, but I'm delighted to be having a little girl. I'm still a bit wary, though. Since we didn't want to know the gender at the time of the scan, they didn't really focus in on "the goods". They just wrote it down on the cards I provided them. I know they're very experienced while I have no idea what I'm seeing on the monitor, but a part of me feels like they didn't get to look long enough to really see for sure. We'll be doing a 4D ultrasound in early June, so I guess we'll get our confirmation then.

Other than that, baby looks good, and everything is normal. They said she's small, but given my size, they're not concerned. She's still feisty and likes to punch me in the bladder if it gets the least bit full. DH says my bladder is probably bouncy and fun to play with.

@Googly-eyes: Yay for another girl! After we found out we were having a girl, I couldn't resist a couple super cute onesies on Zulily. DH reprimanded me for shopping so early...then a few days later he bought a little stuffed bunny because he couldn't resist. Heh. That's all we've bought so far. We're trying to hold out until after our showers so that we don't overload our small place with stuff.

@Sorrycharlie: Olivia Leigh is a beautiful name!

@Skirpa: Spotting is always a bit scary, but I'm glad that everything checked out alright. I do talk to the baby, usually when I'm alone or just with DH, though. I whisper to her at work, sometimes, but only if I'm alone. I try to talk to her whenever she starts a kicking session because then I'm pretty sure she's awake to hear me. I also sing to her all the time. DH also talks to her every night. He'll press his cheek up to my belly and talk to her, and she always kicks him in the face in response. Not sure if it's a coincidence, but it's cute how excited he gets.

@Mslipgloss: How scary! I'm glad everything turned out okay. It always takes my doctor a minute or two to find the heartbeat, and it freaks me out every time.

@Bienlivingdesign: Yay for baby kicks! That's awesome that you get so many ultrasounds. Do you mind my asking what the study you're participating in is for?

@Googly-Eyes: After my first u/s and seeing butterbean's heartbeat (at 8 weeks), I bought a diaper bag (Rebecca Minkoff's Knocked Up bag in python . . . I love bags, so I started with what I knew). After I found out the sex (16 weeks), DH and I went out and bought a few little girl footie jammies so I could hang a few girly things in the nursery closet. Now at 22 weeks, we have also purchased nursery furniture (did this after my 20 week a/s), and also bought bedding. I think that about sums it up.

@Bien: Yaaaaay for kicks! I am so glad that you are feeling your LO move!

@Joy: Go Team Pink! We have quite a few baby girls due in September. I, too, really really thought I was having a boy, and was a little stunned when the sonographer told me it was a girl. After a brief moment of panic, I was unbelieveably excited to be having a girl. DH was leaning (ever-so-slighty) toward wanting a girl, so he was *tickled pink*.

@Bien, @Joy: It was really scary. During my usual check-ups, it always takes a few seconds to find a heartbeat. But today, it took so much longer, and we kept hearing what sounded like (loud) interference on the doppler. After she finally found the heartbeat, the nurse explained that butterbean had been kicking the equipment which is what was causing the interference . . . and that she had been rolling around, making it really difficult to find a heartbeat - they called her *tumbleweed* a few times, lol. (This is the same evil-knieval baby that swam toward the amnio needle! >.< ) Once they found the heartbeat, it was slower than it ever has been before (135--it has never been lower than 149 before), and although I know *normal* can range from 120-160, it concerned me.

I think the scariest part was that when I was describing what I had been feeling, they (the nurses and the OB) didn't ever tell me that I was not describing/ experiencing pre-term labor. The Doc was very clear that all of my signs/symptoms were legit, but that butterbean was fine, no problems with my placenta, that my cervix was still closed and not thinned, and that other than just being aware of what my body was telling me, that I didn't need to fear bedrest or an early delivery. It was a huge relief.

Checking in, 20w2d as of today. a/s last week and all was well the tech estimated the baby's weight to be consistent with about 22w but doc said I'm measuring 20w so right on where we should be. Still team green, although it was much harder this time around than with my first not to look when they told us to close our eyes during the scan. Baby is very active although I don't feel much but pressure/pushing out on my stomach since I have an anterior placenta. Baby was breech during the scan but I'm confident (based on what I do feel) that s/he will be head down when the time comes.

@Mslipgloss: So scary! I'm glad everything checked out ok. Baby needs to stay put a few more months!
@Joyjoy: Congrats on the girl! Your family must've been so excited for the big reveal. And that is so cute about your DH!
@Purpletulips: I'm also team green and now that everyone is finding out the gender it really makes me want to know too!

I'm almost 21 weeks. I was just thinking this morning that it feels like I've already been pregnant forever. I'm definitely showing now and people at work that maybe didn't know now have figured it out. Crazy...September will be here before we know it!

We had our a/s this morning. Yesterday, we were team green. Some time last night or this morning, we/DH decided to find out. It's a boy! (BTW, we're still team green to our families and friends) Baby loves to move his hands around, I'm surprised I don't feel him more yet! Otherwise things look good, head is down, heartbeat was 146.

@MsLipGloss: I'm so glad things are okay, how scary!

@joyjoy: aw, thank you! congratulations on having a little girl!!

@purrpletulips: I have an anterior placenta too I'm 19 weeks today, but I kind of go by Thursdays in my head from how she's measured at every ultrasound. I think the past couple days I might have felt something, but its so hard to know for sure if it's normal digestive things or baby flutters!

@MusicaV: aww, yay, congratulations! I also couldn't believe how I can't feel her yet, based on her moves during the a/s.

woops..just realized I never updated myself! HAHA. I had another dr appt this morning because of the rash on my belly, which the doctor said to keep an eye on and we'll go from there. he doesn't think it's pregnancy related yet because it's early, which is a relief - no PUPPP yet! he checked her heartbeat, steady at 150.

the past 1-2 days I've felt weird things in the belly and I don't want to assume it's baby! I have an anterior placenta, so my doctor said not to expect anything until potentially 22 weeks (3/3.5 weeks away). I'm so bummed. but when I'm laying propped in bed or on my side, sometimes I feel bubbling.

@Music: Yay for Team Blue! Congrats on your boy - what wonderful news! You and your DH must be so excited!

During my 11 and 16 u/s, I, too, was super surprised at how much butterbean moved around, and that I hadn't been able to feel her yet. But at about 19.5 weeks, I felt the first unmistakeable kicks (she is kicking now, too). Once I knew what I was feeling, I was pretty sure I had felt her before, but had just passed it off as indigestion/ gas. lol!

@SorryCharlie: *phew* - glad there's no Pupp! And fwiw, I totally think the *bubbles* are baby.

@Skipra: I totally get the *pregnant forever* feeling - I have it frequently, especially when I am craving something (like a glass of wine) and I try to remember the last time I had one.

Thanks for all the well wishes! It's been smooth sailing today . . . butterbean is currently having a dance partay in mah belleh! I am trying to concentrate, but when she is moving so much, I can't help but imagine her doing Thriller dance moves or something like that.

I'm FINALLY feeling OFFICIAL movement! I am so, so excited. I first felt something the other night (as I wrote here) and just didn't want to believe it was baby versus gas..but that same feeling persisted the next couple days in different spots, and I just felt the same 'ish' feeling very strongly. I'm pretty sure she is having a dance party in there.

I've noticed she does it more (that is noticeable) when I'm either driving (my non-maternity pants are a little tight now), sitting or laying flat with my hand on my belly.

@MsLipGloss: that's exactly what I was just thinking - that now looking back, it wasn't gas, just little movements! kind of weird, in hindsight!

How is everyone doing? I bought the crib mattress yesterday (Simmons Kid Slumber Time Naturally) from Target and was very excited because it was on sale but not advertised. Paid $81 instead of $109! It's soyfoam. I was also concerned by our crib's reviews (Babi Italia Hamilton) because some miserable reviewers claimed 'standard' mattresses were too small. I bit the bullet and bought one, and it fits perfectly. Cranky reviewers stressed me out for nothing!

@SorryCharlie: Yay for movement! I am so, so excited for you! It really is kind of strange how one day you're not sure exactly what you're feeling is, and then all of a sudden you just *know*.

Sounds like a great find on the mattress. I can't remember what we bought, I just remember that it has two sides, one side being firmer for an infant, and a softer side for a toddler.

    @sorrycharlie: Yay, baby dance party!
Also, that sounds like a really great deal on the mattress!

You ladies have your cribs and mattresses already? Honestly I have no idea when I should start putting stuff together for the nursery. Has anyone started a registry yet?

    @Sorrycharlie Yay!! Movement is awesome!

I had to convince myself not to freak out yesterday when I went a day without feeling much..and a little while after I stopped worrying she started moving around...and around..and around! lol

@Joyjoy We haven't ordered our furniture yet either. Probably in the next month or so, but we're moving a little while before my EDD....and we're not planning on ordering something that will take too long anyway..so I didn't want to order too early! I think Sorrycharlie's in laws bought hers but it had to be very early though (due to a sale, I think...)

  19. MsLipGloss

    GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts

@JoyJoy: I am currently at the end of week 22; we purchased our nursery furniture and crib mattress the weekend after my 20 week a/s. I wasn't necessarily planning on purchasing anything that weekend, but we found a set that we both really liked, and although there was a couple of pieces in stock, the third piece had to be ordered (which takes about 8 weeks). It was also on sale (the furniture we bought only does one annual sale), so that helped to speed up the process, too.

I haven't set up a registry yet. I think we are still a few weeks away from that. Hopefully the early purchases haven't caused you any anxiety!

@Googly-Eyes: I am really ready to hit week 23 this week, so that hopefully, over the next week or so, butterbean's movements will become more regular. She has been pretty mellow this morning (or is kicking an organ that doesn't have any nerve endings!), and even though I know all is well, I am still a little worried. Kicks are so comforting.

  20. sorrycharlie

    hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts

@joyjoy: @googly-eyes: you're right! the ILs generously offered to purchase the crib, because they bought BILs. However, the catch was that they had to buy it THEN (I was 8 weeks pregnant!) because of a trade-in sale to get 25% off a new item. I felt very pressured into choosing and do love our crib, but I wish I'd gone with a white one. We had no idea what the sex of the baby was or what we were doing for a nursery!

Aside from that, I just (as in - yesterday!) emptied the old office turned nursery. It was a nightmare. But now it's empty aside from crib, and we'll probably start painting this week. The only reason being that we live in an old house, and it gets HOT up here in the summer! I don't want to use the A/C and trap the paint fumes, so we need it painted before it gets too warm. I'm also worried about the paint curing when it's incredibly muggy!

We have an old bureau/changer that I got from Toys R Us on clearance years ago for myself, so that's painted and being used for baby - we need to buy a rocker of sorts, and we're doing picture ledges for books. We also bought wooden letters that we'll probably paint - we're undecided!

I did my two registries at Target and Babies R Us (if anyone is curious or wants to stalk PM me). I love stalking people's registries..I'm such a creep! My shower is in July or early August, not sure. I wanted to get it out of the way in case family bought us gifts early.

@MsLipGloss: I hear you! Now that I feel movement, I'm obsessed with making her move. I've noticed if she's cramped she'll squirm..am I already a mean mom? LOL! I'll sit and bend over and she'll start poking me.

  21. MsLipGloss

    GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts

@SorryCharlie: Absolutely not! As a matter of fact, butterbean has been really quiet today (I have had lots of BHs, though), and it is starting to bother me. She kicked around a few hours ago, but nothing since. Excuse me while I bend over to see if I can wake her up!

I had no idea how much I would worry about her while she was still being baked - I totally thought the serious anxiety would come after birth. I am such an amateur!

@MsLipGloss: hmm braxton hicks? how many weeks are you? another september mama I talk to asked about that last week, she said she was having some, and I hadn't had any. I am 20 weeks tomorrow. I never know if I'm having something baby-related going on, or digestive or growing pains. It's all so confusing to me!

  23. MsLipGloss

    GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts

@SorryCharlie: Yep, Braxton Hicks. I am 22 weeks (23 tomorrow - I am due the first week of Sept), and I first noticed them at around 20 weeks, when my uterus would feel really, really tight. I had pre-term contractions last week, and there was definitely a difference between the two. The BH just feel super tight, whereas the contractions felt like cramps, and I had back pain and a few other symptoms to go along with them. While they (the BH) are uncomfortable, they haven't been painful (yet).

I have gotten them a lot today, which is why I don't think I have felt butterbean very much, but I am pretty sure that it is because I have not had enough water. I am working on that right now . . .

Oh, and after I bent over and squished her a little bit, bean perked right up and started kicking.

  24. sorrycharlie

    hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts

@MsLipGloss: lol! poor babies, at least we know what works now though! and I'm not sure if this is a weird question - but is the BH tightening similar to the tightening that occurs after sex?...well, orgasm, not just sex. haha.

  25. MsLipGloss

    GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts

@SorryCharlie: Lol(!) and totally not a weird question; it's actually a good comparison Yes, it feels really similar (imo) to an orgasm, just maybe a little stronger and lasts a bit longer. I am going from memory here, as after my pre-term contraction episode, DH has personally put me on pelvic rest.

@Mslipgloss: No worries! We're moving in a month or so and weren't planning to buy anything before the move. I just wanted to know if I should be preparing to buy sooner rather than later.

@Sorrycharlie: If you're a mean mom, so am I because I do that, too! Or I'll poke at her to see if she responds. Also on a day where I feel less movement than usual I'll eat some chocolate or candy and she'll get all hyper. Movement makes me feel better.

Looking forward to my ultrasound in two weeks, so i can work on the registry and nursery. I felt what I'm fairly sure was a foot last night poking me in the side. Was rubbing my tummy due to BH and felt a lump. When I explored more I realized it had to be a foot because when I squeezed it went away and then came back. DH got to feel it too which was cool.

@Sorrycharlie @Joyjoy I have been giving in to iced coffee the past week or so. I think I felt movement from the outside this morning but only one of many kicks (or punches) was hard enough. I'm not sure if it was all in my head! I want DH to feel it if he can and since he's off today...maybe I'll try that! Also DH has been poking my tummy since the first trimester and sometimes he tries to "wake her up!" Lol, we're mean parents too!

@MsLipGloss Now I'm wondering if I've had any BH...I'm 21w. I too noticed that sometimes I need to drink more water to get more movement. Hope you got more movement with that.

@Spaina96 Glad everything is going well on your end! Hope your husband finds a new place for his stuff soon!

@purrpletulips: That's so cool that you could feel the foot and actually interact that way!

@googly-eyes: OMG, iced coffees have been sounding soo good lately. Maybe it's the weather? I've been sticking to decaf and limiting how many I drink since DH is so anti-caffeine-while-pregnant, but they've been hitting the spot lately.

We scheduled a 4D ultrasound for next month! It seems like people are pretty divided on whether they think they're creepy or awesome, but I thought it'd be fun to see things with a little more detail.

    @purrpletulips: aww I can't wait til I know what's what!

@spaina96: yay! I have a horrible memory - is this your anatomy scan? are you team green?

@joyjoy: I want to do that so badly! It'll depend on finances, though. Fighting with insurance over our anatomy scan. They mislead me into believing that it was covered in addition to the 12-week NT, and now they're saying it's not covered at all. Uh, that's not what you said when I called! The person I spoke with on the phone said they have the phone record but I'm sure they'll listen and "hear" what they want to hear as opposed to what was really said. Which bothers me. So looks like our fund toward the 4d is now going to pay for the anatomy scan! Grr!

In a FUN note, baby was a little nut case last night kicking me..I could actually see my belly moving! I have an anterior placenta, so it's not a TON, but noticeable. DH couldn't see though (maybe from my head on vantage point it was easier?), so I put my phone on my belly. Within a minute it jerked! DH couldn't believe it. She still won't kick when his hand is on my belly though, poor guy.

    @purrpletulips: Cool!

Baby's kicks or punches are definitely getting stronger, but you still can't tell from the outside. Every time I start to feel movement, I lift up my shirt so I can touch my bare belly, but no luck feeling it with my hand yet.

In other good news, I haven't vomited in 11 days (and counting)! My previous record was 9 days. I'm still getting used to my protruding belly - I bumped my bump 4 times today! Oops.

Unfortunately, I've been sick with a cold for almost a week. My really bad news is that I might not be able to breastfeed. The short version of the story is that I'm taking medication deemed reasonably safe for pregnancy but not for breastfeeding. The dr who prescribed the medicine recommended that I don't bf, but that I should check with my ob. I'm seeing her next week, so I'll say more and update then.

Just curious - is anyone else still wearing heels? My sister gave me a weird look when she saw I was wearing heels the other day. I live in heels!

    GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts

@MusicAV: That's great news about the vomitting, but not so great about the cold. Hope you feel better soon!

And yep, I am totally still wearing heels. Everyday (except on weekends), for at least 10 hours a day. Although I probably should add that I don't have to stand at work (I just sit in my office most days), but sometimes I do a lot (an insane amount!) of running around in between offices. If I weren't wearing heels, I would feel even more not like myself and out of sorts, expecially with all of the body/ physical changes.

  37. joyjoy

    clementine / 994 posts

@sorrycharlie: That sucks about the insurance. I'm surprised they're fighting the anatomy scan. I didn't think that was an optional scan since they check the development of the baby's organs and such.

@musicav: I'm still wearing heels. I wear flats during the week since my job requires it, but I live in heels on the weekends. I've gotten a lot of grief from my family over it, though. I started wearing chunkier heels and wedges around them since they're "safer", but that only appeased some of them.

I say if you're still comfortable and you can still balance fine, then go for it.

How exciting that everyone is feeling lots of movement! It's definitely the best part of pregnancy so far! Yesterday the baby was insane while I was at work. I was sitting in a meeting and my belly was bouncing all around! DH finally got to feel a couple kicks earlier this week and was so happy.

@Musicav: I hope you are starting to feel better! Sorry about the breastfeeding news. Do you know if there is an alternative that is safe? I never wear heels because I have a bad knee, so it's been a non-issue.
@SorryCharlie: That stinks about the insurance. I wish those companies would correspond by email rather than phone so at least we could have something in writing.

I had my 22 week check up yesterday - first time with the OB. She seemed slightly more concerned about the spotting than the midwives and ultrasound doctor and wants me to have periodic ultrasounds throughout the rest of the pregnancy. Everything seems fine with the baby so it's more of a concern about going into pre-term labor. I think that will be a big relief for me. And kind of off topic - but how are you all doing with weight gain? I've gained about 12 pounds so far! Seems like a lot, especially since I was hoping to keep it right around 25 total.
We haven't started our registry yet but I've been doing some research. We're doing a little work on the nursery and throughout the rest of the house. I think once we have everything cleaned out and organized we can figure out how much room we have for baby stuff. Our condo is really tiny.

@joyjoy: my doctor's billing person said the same - she was like, "it's not routine..it's supposed to be diagnostic" but the code they use to bill is supposedly billed as routine, according to BCBS. I still haven't heard from them and don't feel like sending my bp through the roof so I'll call next week sometime. Sigh.

@skipra: aww, my DH tries every night, but she hides when she feels his hand. the second my hand is back there she's bopping around. bizarre! as far as weight gain, I'm trying so hard!! I've only gained 2 lbs (at 20 weeks). That stinks about the spotting but yay for more ultrasounds! I'm sure everything will be okay, especially if they're monitoring you closely.

I'm starting to get REALLY, really nervous and anxious about breastfeeding. I keep hearing these stories about being up every hour, never getting out of the house, bleeding boobies, etc. and I'm wondering more and more why in the heck I'm doing it!! Financially it's the best option for us right now..I know that formula is just as healthy so that's not my main concern. I'm such a wreck. Anyone else?

@Skipra: At 23 weeks, I have gained 15 pounds according to my OB, but 20 according to my personal tracking. This is the most I have ever weighed in my life, and I am doing what I can to keep the anxiety in check. My gain has been from head to toe, though, and not just in my belly (which is still pretty small, at least from what people tell me all.the.time!), so I am panicking about my thighs, bootay, etc. I so wanted to be the cute pregnant lady with nothin' but a big ol' belleh, but I guess it's just not in the cards. On the other hand, I am hoping the weight gain continues to be steady, so that I can minimize (or avoid, if at all possible) stretch marks, or at least too many.

@SorryCharlie: Yep. I'm right there with ya about BFing. It just seems so darn complicated. *Nipples, and latching, and supply, oh my!* Add in the fact that I will also need to pump (assuming I can BF) when I return to work, and it is enough to make my stomach churn.

Is anyone doing anything for (soon-to-be) Mother's Day? We don't have any plans, other than to enjoy a quiet afternoon together. I may also ask DH to take me for gelato. My MIL sent me a really sweet card. Can you believe we will be mothers with outside babies next year?!
