So have any of you ladies purchased any baby or maternity stuff? If not, are you waiting until a certain point in pregnancy? If you did what have you gotten and when did you get it?
I haven't purchased anything, I will probably TRY and refrain from buying any baby things until 12 weeks, but I think I might try to find some pregnancy cloths this weekend (or at least some hide early pregnancy cloths). I am definitely not going to last in my work pants for long, they are a higher rise and just hit at a thicker spot, so they wont last long, I will probably just move to wearing more skirts temporarily to hide bloat/belly, and get some looser tops.

@MrsStormy: I bought some loose shirts and an extra pair of work pants a size up, but that's it so far. Unfortunately I gained weight this fall/winter so my clothes were getting super tight before my BFP. It was either get pregnant or need to loose 10 lbs

@MrsStormy: I was TTC for so long that I bought lots of things along the way. This is what I had prior to pregnancy: a dresser, a diaper bag, clothes, crib sheets, blankets, and a pair of shoes. After we found out we bought these things, all on great sale: a stroller, an Ergo, a brest friend, and some maternity jean capris. We have always thought that it's best to spread out the expenses versus have to buy it all at once. I'm not one who is superstitious and believes that buying things early could risk your baby.

@runnerd: Thanks! Most people think we're crazy, but it also helps me get through these weeks where I barely feel pregnant. If I'm buying things for my baby and preparing, then it helps this baby feel more real.

@marionberry: although I'm holding off til we hear a heartbeat, totally get it - we already painted the nursery just to be doing something!

@runnerd: We still have to buy a house during this pregnancy so I have a wall to paint. In that way, you're well ahead of me!

Best day today we saw the heart beat! Everything is measuring perfectly on track!!! Can't stop smiling! Such a relief!

@marionberry: @runnerd: I've been buying stuff like crazy since TTC- we just don't want to have to have lots of expenses towards the end. If anything happens we can sell or gift it. We can't set up the nursery until we move anyways when I'm 7 months!

@LittleGBee: Thankfully DH does the food shopping (I can't stand it) but I was very specific about wanting Kraft mac & cheese SHAPED pasta, not the elbows. Apparently pregnant me has become picky about my pasta shapes.
@MrsStormy: I got a few maternity shirts that I found on sale at Target. We are waiting until our first appointment before we start stocking up on diapers and start searching for gear. I agree with @marionberry:, we aren't worried about "jinxing" anything. But we are house hunting every weekend and several weeknights so we just don't have much time to start researching gear and store all of that yet.
@Mrs squirreld: So very happy for you!!!

@MrsStormy: I haven't bought anything yet. I bought jeans at the beginning of last year and I was either delusional on size or I lost weight so they are huge so I'm hoping I can wear them a while. My hubby was just talking about stocking up on NB diapers but then I found diaper rental service (we'd like to use cloth) so I don't know that we need to do that. I'm having a hard time buying anything there are just soo many options!
@Mrs squirreld: Congrats I'm glad everything looks great!

@Mrs squirreld: Yay! So happy for you that you finally got your ultrasound. Isn't hearing the heartbeat awesome?

@Mrs squirreld: Congratulations, so exciting!
@marionberry: I totally don't think you are crazy! I think its smart to do a little bit at a time so its not one huge impact, I'd like to do that too (although I am way behind), I'm not superstitious either, I just would hate to have that reminder if something did happen you know, so that's why I'm waiting, but I don't think I will last until 12 weeks!
@MapleMoose: Ohh I love house shopping, even though its a little stressful, I just love looking at houses, what a fun season, house, baby, so much new stuff!
apricot / 251 posts
@MapleMoose: @jetsa: be careful about stocking up on diapers - don't buy too many of one size. some babies are born small or big and need weird sizes - DS was only in newborn diapers for a couple weeks, then he got super fat. haha so we had a bunch of newborn diapers we couldn't use. it was literally a bummer! LOL

Just wanted to pop by and say hello to you ladies...at my 11W1D appointment this morning they moved my due date from 8/28 to 9/3...I think they may be wrong about that since I basically know I conceived on Dec 7th (which I hope will come up at my NT scan in 2 weeks) but for now I am going to hang out on both the August and September threads!
I have a lot of reading to catch up you you chatty girls!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@MrsStormy: It's a lot! But you're right, it is an exciting time. There isn't much in the town we want so we quickly schedule seeings as things come onto the market but it's slim pickins right now. Our realtor assures us that there will be a flood of homes on the market come springtime but we don't want to potentially miss out on 'the one' so we have been trying to see as many as possible.
@mrsmoreau: Good advice, I didn't even think about that. Thank goodness we have some veteran moms here.
@Mrs D: Welcome!

@runnerd: This is so me - I gained 10-15 pounds over late summer/fall and my clothes are already tight. In December I was waiting to get a BFP - if not it was time to kick my hiney into high gear and get back in shape. Luckily I got my BFP, but now my poor body is wondering why it's being drug through the ringer for the past year, lol.
I feel like I look 12 weeks pregnant when I'm barely 8!
@MrsStormy: I've bought a few onesies that were super cute but that's really it. My dad bought us an adorable rocking moose from Ikea - I love it!
@marionberry: You're so smart! This year is going to be a major adjustment - we are buying a house, SUV, and my salary will drop huge once I am on maternity leave for the year. DH did the budget last night for my year off and it took us both back a bit, lol.
@Mrs squirreld: Yay!!!! How exciting!!!! I am SO hoping to hear or see the heartbeat next week when we go for our first appointment.
DH and I booked a trip to Mexico for March...so excited for a babymoon! 3 more weeks (but who's counting??) Virgin strawberry daquaris for me!
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@char54: lol omg I keep telling DH that if I told someone I was pregnant right now, they would say "how exciting, when are you due, July? August?"
apricot / 251 posts
@MapleMoose: also most hospitals provide diapers at no charge - DH and I confiscated as many as possible and just kept asking for more, acting like we changed DS more often than we did haha. same thing for pads for me.
also you will probably get some diapers at your baby shower - so I would wait until after that to see what you will need.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@char54: You lucky mama!! Enjoy the sunshine for me.
@mrsmoreau: Didn't know that about the free diapers. And you're right, I've seen plenty of diaper pyramids at baby showers lol

Is anyone planning to be team green? We are though idk how it'll work out bc my dr office has a huge tv in the ultrasound room so at the 20 wk appt it might be kind of hard to not tell.
clementine / 818 posts
@jetsa: I'd like to be team green, but I am still trying to get DH on board with that idea, so we will see....
@char54: @runnerd: I'm also having that I gained a little weight prior to BFP so my pants were already getting snug
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@Mrs D: welcome!! I may end up in the same bought since my due date is self-assigned as sept 30
@jetsa: oh, noooo way I could go team green - I admire the willpower of those who can!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@jetsa: We are team green! It will be hard not to want to find out right in the moment when they're looking at the goods but DH and I will just turn away at that time. I always love guessing whether it's a boy or girl and think having DH be the person to tell me at birth will be awesome!
@runnerd: Yes! I feel like when I tell people I'm pregnant they're going to be like "obvs"!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@jetsa: No way we could be team green. My DH is a rad tech and would know the moment he saw it, so I'd be the only one left out of the loop. Plus I'm a total planner, so I may need those 4 months to prepare, especially if I'm having a boy.
@char54: We're looking to buy a house too! We have to finish our taxes and see how much we get back but ideally we're hoping to buy a house by the time our lease is out in May.
@char54: @runnerd: I was about 10lbs over what I would have liked to be from about July-December. Luckily in that time I bought some new clothes, but even now those are getting tight. So I will definitely need some more sooner rather than later. Luckily though I'm only up 2 lbs since pregnancy. So, I want to know, how much has everyone else gained so far?
pomelo / 5041 posts
I wanted to update this, especially given that my appt with the OB got moved earlier due to a work trip I'll be on..so ultrasound at RE and then 8 days later, first OB appt. So exciting! @Merr: Wishing you a great experience at your appt today!

@marionberry My Dr. Appointment changed to 2/26.
@Jetsa We were team green last time and will be again this time. It really made the last few weeks bearable. It was also so cool to hear my husband say it's a girl. Was just trying to edit the clothes my daughter has outgrown and find the few things that are gender neutral.
Last time I found it sort of difficult to find neutral clothes and i knew i would want to buy gender specific clothes when baby arrived. I don't know how people feel about buying 2nd hand but I got a "lot" of gender neutral clothes on eBay which was handy for the first couple of weeks. It had 10-12 jammies and things that held us over until I felt like going out for clothes. We also had PINK items descend upon us from friends and family as soon as we got home.
I highly recommend team green. At the 20 week appointment our tech just had us close our eyes and actually baby was sleeping and covering her privates so the tech never saw either. Our Drs and Nurses all had a lot of fun guessing too.
Sorry for the rambly post DD just went down for a nap and I am exhausted.

@marionberry: in all honesty, I haven't gotten on the scale in over a week because I've been stress eating like crazy with all the spotting worry. Last time I weighed no change, but sure that's not true now haha!
I hope I get clearance to start running again and can clean my eating up lol

I'm having a horrible day at work and could pretty much break down in tears right now if I wanted...not sure if the hormones are making it worse but I wish I was home already. Stress while pregnant isn't good and sometimes my work is a big source of it.
clementine / 818 posts
@marionberry: I've probably gained 3 or 4 lbs and I'm only 7w 5d but I've had some other contributing factors, we are in the middle of a kitchen remodel so have had no kitchen for pretty much the whole time I've been pregnant, so we have been eating out a lot, so its probably more that than baby. Also I worked out for the first time this week, I did 30 day shred (super modified) with only 5lb weights- and this is like really mild for me, and I spotted brown for the first time after that, so now I'm nervous to do anything else, I think I'm going to stick to just walking hills or elliptical or something.
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@marionberry: yep tomorrow at 11. This has been the longest week ever waiting for that appt.
@MrsStormy: I know exercise is suppose to be fine, but both of my spotting incidents began following runs (so 2 of the 4 times I've run pregnant). I miss exercise so bad right now!

So ladies, what are your thoughts on maxi dresses and skirts? I've never even tried one on cause I'm 5'3" and carry any extra weight in belly and arms so never seem liked a good move - but maxi dress with preg belly is cute right?
pomelo / 5041 posts
@runnerd: I think once we're really pregnant (I'm 5'3" too) will be super cute. But they might look a bit weird until then. I love the idea of them for casual but I'm really unsure what I'm going to wear to work. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!
@mrsstormy: I've been super afraid to work out (given things I've heard) but once I hit the second trimester I may start to do at least some mild stuff. I did buy a prenatal yoga video which was nice, because it was basically stretching. I need to do it again. I'm so lazy.
clementine / 818 posts
@runnerd: @marionberry: I have the same short with a belly problems, so I've avoided the maxi dress, but I think its perfect for pregnancy in summer!
Also the spotting probably would have freaked me out less if I hadn't known of @runnerd: spotting, so yeah I think I will mostly take it easy and then try to do a little more in the 2nd tri. It's also hard for me because it had been probably 1.5 months (at BFP) since I had been consistently working out hard due to illness and holidays and such, and that just made me more unsure, if I had been doing it the whole time I probably would worry a lot less.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MrsStormy: Agreed! They say do as much exercise as you did before you got pregnant, but since I hadn't been working out in awhile, that meant do no exercise, lol. I have read that working out on a stationery bike is ok, so I might start with that.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@jetsa: I asked DH and he said 'no way'. I have to agree, I'm way too anxious to find out the gender!
@marionberry: Big hug!! Hope you are able to relax and leave that work stress behind when you get home.
@runnerd: Another 5'3" gal who could never quite pull off a maxi dress before. I'm hoping I'll be able to pull of the 'cute' look when pregnant and wearing one, and not look awkward lol
