@illumina: Not yet. I really want to. I guess I could start getting a list of stuff that I'm interested in while I'm at work and then talk about it.
BIL&SIL have a new car seat that they got from insurance, so DH was talking about buying that, but I'm not sure that I want the Graco. I was looking at another brand. I forgot exactly, but I know a different one.

@illumina we started looking at BRS and i think i found a chicco travel sytem we like. I would like to look at buy buy baby or usa baby but we have to drive a distance to get to each one. I have been looking for suggestions for gear on websites and consumer reports. I think it comes down to price, style and what will work for you and your DH. I plan on registering after the gender reveal April 10 and slowly adding things so I am not overwhelemed.
As of M/S i have been having nausa still so i am continuing on my medication and resting. Waiting for that second trimester energy I should have by now! Heres hoping!

@illumina we have browsed at Buy Buy Baby but haven't started doing any research.
We plan on announcing on facebook tomorrow if everything is ok at our 12 week appointment. I was thinking about trying to create a Game of Thrones spinoff poster with the throne with a baby on it and instead of "Winter is Coming" have it say "Baby is Coming" and then "Fall 2013" I do not know if I am talented enough to figure out how to actually do that

@MrsClownfish: thats awesome. We announced on facebook today with, "Sugar, Spice, & Everything Nice OR Frogs, Snails, & Puppy Dog Tails" and no one got it lol. I got 3 are you pregnant's lol?
pomelo / 5041 posts
@jetsa: Wow I would've gotten it. What dummies!
@illumina: We got our stroller awhile ago because it was on a great sale right after we found out we were pregnant. It's a bumbleride and it works with a variety of carseats. I think we're leaning toward the Chicco Keyfit 30 but we'll probably wait until we know gender before buying one. As for other gear we've mainly just looked and not bought much.

@illumina: I've had my heart set on the Uppababy Vista for a while now...it will probably be my one splurge! I'm hoping the Mesa car seat is released in Canada before September but not holding my breath.
@marionberry: Literally ALL my mama friends have the bumbleride indie...they love it!!
I'm hitting up aqua zumba tonight with one of my friends who is 17 weeks pregnant. She's been going for a while and says it's refreshing and fun. We shall see! My next appointment is Friday and I'm so nervous about my weight gain - lol. It's more stress than when I used to go to Weight Watchers!!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@char54: We got the Bumbleride Flyer because we couldn't really afford the Indie, but I wish we could've!
So my belly bump I had posted has somewhat disappeared, especially in the morning. By the end of the day it looks bigger, but overall it's still pretty small. I must've been really bloated in Seattle or something. I kind of look forward to an obvious bump though.

12 week appointment in 45 minutes and I'm super excited and super nervous!!!
@littlegbee: yes, we are doing it at a place associated with our OB office but it is private and we are paying $80 for it. And the nurse must've misspoken when she told us at which week to book, because when I called them they said 4/1 was too early and I had to make it 4/26 when I'm just over 19 weeks (I've been too lazy to update the list!)

I am pretty overwhelmed with all the gear options and where to start! How do you know what you want/what to look for?! Gah! We haven't bought a single thing for beb yet...I feel so behind!
pomelo / 5469 posts
I like the look of the Uppababy Vista, but I haven't yet found a stockist so I can see it in person. My favourite system so far is the iCandy Peach, though at almost £800 for the carrycot and pushchair I've got some convincing DH to do to get it!
We've also looked at monitors and nursery furniture.
We won't start buying until the summer though, after we move house as we don't want to have to move all this extra baby stuff.

@MamaMagpie: I have lots of opinions. But so will everyone else. Check out BuyBuyBaby...they'll be helpful. And no, you're not behind! Also, how'd that appointment go!?

Hi ladies, I wish I was a more frequent poster but I find it hard to reply to threads from my phone so I tend to read a lot more than I post! Just a little update following my scan and nuchal screening last week...
Scan went well - baby looks to be doing fine in there, BUT they couldn't do the nuchal screening because s/he wouldn't keep still enough! Baby was dancing all over the place, and even though they kept me there TWO HOURS and kept sending me out to wait 10 minutes and see if things calmed down in there, it was to no avail!
So basically I got scanned three times, which I loved since I kept getting to see the baby - but nuchal measurements/tests couldn't be done, and now I have to have a "quad test" at 14-15wks instead (which will happen at my appt next Tuesday).
@illumina: I have started a list of gear, what to buy and what to beg/borrow. I have my eye on the City Mini GT for a stroller, and probably the Maxi Cosi cabriofix and base - which will fit the City Mini with adapters. I've pretty much decided not to bother with a "pram" top since friends have told me it wasn't really worth the extra expense for the relatively short time LO will use it - the City Mini is suitable from Birth anyway, and I'll probably get some sort of infant-insert to make it a bit cosier in there. The only downside is that it doesn't have a parent-facing option for the seat.
@MamaMagpie: Hope your 12wk appt went well. You're certainly not behind... I may have done a lot of thinking but I am still scared to actually purchase anything! (though I do have two weeks off work now so decided to think about the nursery!)

@illumina: Researching gear is so overwhelming! We haven't done much, I don't live near a BBB or a BRU so that makes it hard, I am leaning towards probably getting a Britax travel system but I will need to see it in person to decide. Otherwise I have done no research!
@MrsClownfish: Good luck today!
@MamaMagpie: Hope your appointment went great! We haven't bought anything for baby yet either
persimmon / 1436 posts
@Littlegbee: @evenstar982: @mrsstormy: the appointment went well, thank you! I would've sworn she told us there would be an ultrasound but I guess all the excitement of the first appointment made me hear things wrong, and when she said they don't usually do them at the 12 week appointment I almost cried! I felt so silly, but she was really nice and used the doppler to hear the heartbeat. It sounded great and the baby kept moving around and she had to keep "chasing" the heartbeat. It feels even more real now!
Also, it turns out that they *can* do the gender scan at 15 weeks! When I called to make the appointment a month ago, and read the box the doctor had checked off "anatomy scan", the person said they don't do them until 19/20 weeks. I assumed my doctor had misspoke and just booked the appointment -- turns out, the anatomy scan is a totally different thing! Don't I feel like a dummy?! But I don't care, because it means I only have to wait two more weeks to find out if we will have a DS or DD!

@MamaMagpie: I'm so excited for you, that you get to find out the sex so soon. I have my next appointment at 15 weeks and he didn't say anything about an ultrasound so I'm figuring I'm stuck waiting until my appointment at 19 weeks. Although DH and I will probably pay for an elective gender scan if that's the case so we can know earlier.
@evenstar982: I'm glad your testing looks good and sorry that you were unable to do the nuchal testing. My friend went in for testing and couldn't get hers done because the baby measured 2 weeks ahead of where it was supposed to be. So it certainly happens. Best of luck on the quad screen!
@mrsmoreau: I'd love to hear your list! Lists from real moms seem to be so much more helpful.
apricot / 284 posts
@marionberry: thanks, I'm not overly concerned to wait since its more DH who is keen to get the results - he's not going to be happy this is a "healthy pregnancy" until we get them, bless him. I'm feeling a bit more laid back I guess - whatever the result, this is an extremely wanted LO and I'm just happy to become a mama We've had no signs of anything out of the ordinary so far but I guess in some ways its easier for me since its my body undergoing all the change whereas all DH can do it sit and watch and wait...
It was nice at the weekend when he looked at my belly and said, "You're starting to look pregnant now" though!
I agree, I'd also love to see @mrsmoreau 's list! I only have a couple of mama friends IRL so getting genuinely useful lists isn't easy.
Since we're starting to talk gender scans and reveals - any other Team Green mamas out there on this thread? I know it'll drive me crazy waiting but I'm determined not to find out since I ALWAYS manage to ruin surprises!

@marionberry: @evenstar982: @jetsa:
Mrsmoreau’s list of nice-to-haves and have-to-haves.
Other than whatever furniture you want (crib, dresser, changing table, etc)
YOU MUST HAVE:
---a pack n play. Perfect for overnighters at hotels, grandma’s house, etc. also good to have if you have a two (or more) story house. We set ours up permanently in the dining room (until Vic was about 6 months old) as a place for him to nap while I was downstairs doing dishes, laundry, or just lounging watching TV.
---a stroller. If you can, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY! Testing out strollers is super important, I tried several before I decided on the one for me. Travel systems are awesome. thankfully on our first time around, my sister in law gave us an infant car seat that snapped on to a simple stroller base like this: http://www.diapers.com/p/baby-trend-snap-n-go-stroller-564612?site=CA&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_D&utm_term=BT-085&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&CAWELAID=1463198825&utm_content=pla&ca_sku=BT-085&ca_gpa=pla&ca_kw={keyword} .
you will DEFINITELY want a stroller that you can snap the car seat onto, but if you are starting from scratch, it’s smart to get a stroller that will convert so you don’t have to buy another one in a few months once your tiny newborn gets too big for that car seat. Right now we use this: http://www.chiccousa.com/gear/strollers/liteway/liteway-juniper.aspx
---an exer-saucer, activity center, or the like – it’s good to get something that the baby will actually sit in and be contained (something with straps is a good plan) rather than something that the baby just lays on the floor with. That way you don’t have to stay with the baby the entire time – you can go about your daily routine. Also, That baby will be rolling before you know it – under coffee tables, behind couches, etc… and you could literally lose track of the baby – or worse, the baby could get hurt.
I’ll stop here for now, I don’t want to bog down the posts… if you want to hear more or are curious about a specific item let me know. I will post a few more later tonight.

@mrsmoreau good post!
Just to add my experience with our first baby...we skipped the travel system. We used a Baby Bjorn or a different carrier until about 3 months then she was able to ride in our Macclaren and she could ride in our Phil and Ted jog stroller when she was tiny as well as it reclines flat. My DD HATED her infant carseat and for the most part screamed anytime you put her in it. We switched to a convertible Britax carseat when she was about 7 weeks old which she liked a little better.
Also my suggestion to everyone especially those of you with limited space is borrow what you can in terms of swing, bouncers, activity centers etc. they are expensive, giant, awkward to store and you use them for a fairly limited amount of time and you never know what your baby will actually use. Mine was meh about the swing and vibrating chair maybe an hour a day? She loved the jumper and would sit the activity center for 20-30 minutes a couple times a day. She loved the baby activity gym.
Sorry for the long long post.

@Joanlindsay: i second that regarding borrowing - or, buy at a resale, and then, re-sell!

@marionberry:
For breastfeeding you must have:
---Breast Pump (I recommend Medela)
---Breastmilk storage bags (for freezer storage)
---extra bottles & lids (for temporary milk storage)
---if you work & plan on pumping at work, you will want a cooler bag to store your milk in.
it’s nice to have:
---a freezer storage bin to keep milk separate from food in freezer. (but you can just use Ziploc bags or simply designate a shelf for milk)
Bottle Feeders:
---DO NOT buy tons of formula, bottles, or nipples. Not every baby likes the same bottle/nipple combo, and formula expires. Also your LO may have digestive issues with formula which will make you try different brands until you find the one that works. sign up for as many free samples of formula as you can.
---DO buy a couple different types of bottles. Chances are your LO will like whatever he/she gets first, but in the event they don’t, you really don’t want to be stuck without another option. my DS was an angel and drank from whatever bottle we gave him.

@mrsmoreau: @Joanlindsay: Thank you girls, this is helpful! It's nice to have people with experience here, I'm sure I will have lots of gear questions once I actually start shopping and researching!
So have you guys been discussing names with your spouses? I know we talked about it previously, just wondering if anything has changed? So far we have talked a little, but DH mostly just vetoes he doesn't offer any options, its annoying, but oh well. For whatever reason girl names are much harder for us to agree on! We are most likely going to be team green (he's having a hard time accepting that though, so it might change if I can't get him more on board) so we need names for both....

@mrsmoreau: thankyou for taking the time to put these lists together they are so helpful! Can I just ask if you have time to answer, what you think is needed to start with clothes wise? Also what is a pack and play? Is it like a travel cot?
@Joanlindsay: really good point about not knowing what the baby will like when it arrives... I kind of forgot about that!
I think @evenstar982: might have been onto something with not needing pram/carrycot part of the travel system. DH did bring that up when we looked at some and we figured that even though we might not get much use out of it it may still be a necessity. Maybe not though!
pomelo / 5469 posts
@MrsStormy: DH is so convinced we're having a boy, he pretty much refuses to discuss girl names! *sigh* I guess he's just happy to wait until we know for sure because even for boys names he'll say he really likes this name or that name but won't really commit to anything

@evenstar982: We are Team Green and I am soooo going to have a hard time saying "no" at our ultrasound when the doctor asks us if we want to find out, but I have always wanted to be TG and I think it will be an awesome, awesome moment when DH announces to me if it's a boy or girl at birth. I need to keep thinking of that moment so I don't crack, lol.
Since we are TG (and therefor everything will have to be gender neutral) I ordered some fabric today for curtains and crib skirt. My MIL is a wonderful seamstress and is going to do it all up for us. I'm so thankful!
@mrsmoreau: This list is great, thanks!!
My fatigue is slowly going away...I can actually stay up past 8pm now!! yay !! I can't wait for our apt this Friday to hear the baby's little heartbeat again

@illumina: yes a pack n play is the same thing as a travel cot.
as far as clothes go, don't go too crazy buying things if you are having a baby shower. evaluate what you get as gifts and adjust your stash accordingly.
what I found with DS is that I had all these *Cute* outfits that he NEVER wore because i was afraid of getting them dirty! keep in mind that newborns soil their clothing multiple times a day.
everyone's style is different, but my DS practically lived in one-piece rompers.
since we are having autumn babies we will need long-sleeved onesies, TONS of sleepers (preferably with feet so you dont need as many socks - they go missing quite often), soft pants, t-shirts, a few hats, and also you will need a cold-weather bodysuit.
be careful buying too much in any given size. your LO will grow faster than you think, and some babies are born too big for newborn size.
you will most likely receive a lot of clothing as gifts.
this is a good list to start off with: http://www.babycenter.com/0_checklist-baby-clothes-birth-to-3-months_10329367.bc

@mrsmoreau @illumina I agree the cute outfits don't get a ton of use. We loved footed sleepers and the fleece zip up sacs. So easy for middle of the night diaper changes and nice and cozy. My DD had maybe 3-4 cute outfits for social events - a couple of showers for her etc.
I tried to remember that newborns spend a lot of time laying on their backs and bellies so things that might make that uncomfortable I tried to stay away from. Waistbands that might be snug big decoration or hoods.

We also had a heavy polar fleece suit that was great when winter came. We could still go outside and walk etc.
