@MapleMoose: this tutorial was super helpful for me. http://www.hellobee.com/2012/06/11/one-of-a-kind-onesie-step-2-appliqueing/

    @jetsa: Yup that's the guide I used!
@MapleMoose: I am really not crafty at all, but I followed part 1 and 2 of those tutorials, and they helped a lot. I'm pretty sure without those I would not have had the confidence to do them, but it really wasn't hard. Hand stitching was a little time consuming, and they certainly aren't perfect, but I embraced it, they were made with love and that's all that matters

  3. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@MrsStormy: yep exactly. I told my husband the same thing last night. If they were perfect they wouldn't be handmade with love.

@mrssquirelld: @mrsstormy: @jetsa: I am totally in awe of your skills!!! I can barely sew on a button, let alone tackle projects like wipes and onesies!

@maplemoose: what a scary thing, I am so sorry you have to go through this uncertainty! I had never heard of this but it sounds extremely common and that's encouraging. I hope your next ultrasound goes well -- you'll have to keep us posted.

@MapleMoose: one of my best friends baby had two cysts on his brain. They watched them and Even decided she needed to deliver in our state capital just in case the baby needed extra special monitoring. By the time they got to their 30+ appointments, they couldn't find the cysts. Baby was born healthy with no problems at all!!!!!! I know it's hard not to worry, but look at it this way--you get some extra ultrasounds and the level 2 ones are really detailed and amazing. Keeping you in my thoughts!!!!

@jetsa: @MrsStormy: Very helpful thank you! I like the look of the thick thread you both have. Is it the thicker embroidery thread mentioned in the tutorial? (I am such a noob lol).

@MamaMagpie: Thank you and I will. Still waiting to hear when the Level II is scheuled for.

@Jennimac: So good to hear stories like this. Thank you for sharing!! And you're right, at least we get to see baby in more ultrasounds. Gotta keep looking on the bright side.

@MapleMoose: actually mine is just thin thread doubled over. I tried the embroidery thread and it showed every mistake.

Just put together Baby's crib! We got a Ikea Gulliver in white. It's pretty cute - a bit tricky to put together - that may have been my 19 month old "helping" Now just have to finish painting new Baby's dresser and add in a few interesting knick-knacks and our kiddos shared room is all ready to go!

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Joanlindsay: That's awesome! I can't wait to move next weekend so that we can start beginning to create our nursery. We opted for a white crib too. Now I just need to purchase it lol.

  10. Joanlindsay

    grape / 98 posts

@marionberry We got a new-in-box Gulliver off Craigslist so there was no ordering. Saw it online and had it home and put together 24 hours later.
Hope your move goes smoothly. Good to get it done before you get too much bigger.

  11. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Joanlindsay: Yay for you! I'm lucky in the fact that we have a lot of family helping us, along with some movers for the big furniture. Hopefully I'll spend most of my time packing/unpacking which isn't fabulous, but it shouldn't be as physically demanding.

  12. Joanlindsay

    grape / 98 posts

@Marionberry we moved when I was about 13 weeks pregnant with my DD and I had a similar situation - I was still surprised how worn out it made me. I swear it took me a week to feel rested after our big move. Try to make sure you remember to hydrate and eat and sit down when you can.
Have fun in your new place.

@Joanlindsay: lol about your little helper. Awesome to have your nursery coming along!

    @marionberry: How exciting!

@Joanlindsay: That's a very good point! I tend to overdo it so it will be really important to take it easy.

@Mrs squirreld: @MrsStormy: @jetsa: adorable onesies! I've put all my energy so far into decorating the nursery and researching gear like strollers, but yet to break out the sewing machine. I do need to get on and make the curtains and crib sheets though so those are probably next on my list, and perhaps some homemade cloth wipes if I can find some cute flannel to make them with.

Since there are so many Team Green mamas on this thread I was thinking it might be fun to do a "old wives gender predictions" game of some sort... e.g. answer the following and see what your gender prediction is, then we can revisit in September and see how accurate they were!

    So, just for fun...

Are you carrying High (girl) or Low (boy)?
    - looks low today BOY

Skin breakouts (girl) or dry hands and cold feet (boy)?
    - I broke out a LOT early on, but its much better now and I've had dry skin instead, so I'm calling this one NULL!

Wedding ring on string test: hold your ring over you bump on a bit of string, if it swings in circles it means boy. Side to side means girl.
    - GIRL

Heartrate less than 140bpm (boy) or 140bpm+ (girl)?
    - 155bpm at last check GIRL

Craving sweets (girl) or savoury (boy)?
    - Icecream = GIRL

Suffered from morning sickness (girl) or none (boy)?
    - yes and it was awful! GIRL

RESULT: Mine comes out overwhelmingly on the GIRL side, but everyone is convinced we'll have a boy... how about anyone else? Want to play? Feel free to add more questions/tests if you know of any!

Happy Mother's Day, ladies! I hope you all had a wonderful day, even if you didn't count it as your "first" mom's day yet

Sooooooo...we decided on a name! It's one we've both liked for years but didn't really consider it because it didn't keep with the tradition of naming LO after a passed loved one (we'd been limiting ourselves to "A" or "P" names for DH's grandfather). BUT we decided to go with what we really loved and his name is:
    Harrison Paul! Hooray!

  17. illumina

    pomelo / 5469 posts

@MamaMagpie: love the name! It really feels so good and real once you've decided on something doesn't it?

A belated happy mother's day to all the Mum's that celebrated it yesterday. For some reason the UK like to be different and have our day in March!

Yesterday was our 1st wedding anniversary, so DH and I spent the weekend in a hotel in the countryside not too far from home. It was so nice to have some time just the two of us and not thinking about work, it's been so crazy lately! We have also finally found a new house, in the area not too far from where my parents live. We will be hopefully moving towards the end of next month. We need to order a bit of new furniture, including everything for Rose's nursery... can't wait!!

    @MamaMagpie: great name!!
@illumina: so exciting you have found a new house! A weekend away sound fantastic too!

DH was super sweet on Mother's Day and got the nicest card & some choccies for me - I bawled my eyes out cause I really didn't expect anything! Love that man

Finished my crib skirt today! Can't wait to have the mattress and sheet on! I'm so proud of it! It was a mission! Especially that pleat! Lol

  19. evenstar982

    apricot / 284 posts

@Mrs squirreld: crib skirt is gorgeous! Love the pleat I need I get the fabric to make mine. How many sides of the crib does yours go round? I can't decide if I should do all 4 sides or not since one will be against the wall... Also struggling to decide if I will do a gathered or flat skirt - your pleat has inspired me to try the flat approach!

  20. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@evenstar982: thanks! I just did three sides, since one is against the wall I figured it was just a waste. the pleat was hard!! I only did it in a matching colour because the fabric had the trees upright on the shortest length and it wasn't enough to go across!!

  21. mrsmoreau

UUURRRGHHH! Spent the day with my mum & grandma yesterday - Grandma just kept saying things like "Are you sure there's only one in there? must be a big baby!" and "how many months do you have left? Hopefully you'll be able to push her out!"
and then she told me that Penelope is a stupid name. (one of my short-list names)

REALLY?!?!?!!?? ugh just had to vent. I am feeling icky about my weight gain as is, and the name thing is really getting to me since i don't seem to like ANY names.

Now at work nearly in tears just thinking about it. ugh monday.

  22. illumina

    pomelo / 5469 posts

@mrsmoreau: I'm so sorry... sometimes people can be so rude... it's not intentional, they just seem to have no filter. Honestly, I don't know what it is about pregnancy/babies that makes people think you need to hear their unedited thoughts! I know it's tough when it's close family members, I just keep telling myself they don't mean any harm. I had people saying they didn't like the name Rose - my sister who I usually get along great with is so negative about our name choices and I really don't get it! When I was around 15-16wks and starting to tell people, I had no sign of a bump and people were like "you're how far along? where is it then?" and that made me feel self-conscious. FWIW I love Penelope!

  23. evenstar982

    apricot / 284 posts

@mrsmoreau: repeat after me: Penelope is a beautiful name., YOU are beautiful, your bump is perfect.
    Hugs!

    apricot / 251 posts

@illumina: @evenstar982: thank you ladies. you have put a smile on my face.
Additionally I have to laugh because Grandma's name suggestion is "Edwina"

    .....

(no offense meant to anyone who is considering that name, of course.)

So I think we are now sorted for newborn and 1mth old clothing! DH came home at lunch with a huge bag of used clothes one of his clients brought in for us. We also got a bottle steriliser kit. How generous, considering we don't even really know them!

  26. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@illumina: wow! That's awesome! We have 3 friends with baby girls that have been born in the last 5 months, they keep telling us if baby is a girl she needs no clothes lol.

  27. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@mrsmoreau: aww I'm so sorry. My mum is the same and then she wonders why I don't visit her as often. I don't understand why people say these things - what do they think its going to achieve? I know it's hard but ignore them! We all need to grow perfect babies and that's what we are doing!!!
@illumina: wow!! That's an amazing stash of clothes!!
We really need to buy clothes!! I'm going to a secondhand baby market this weekend so I'm hoping there will be some good bargains there!

    Old Wives Tale Gender predictor:

Are you carrying High (girl) or Low (boy)?
    - I think high? GIRL

Skin breakouts (girl) or dry hands and cold feet (boy)?
-I've had both. I've had more breakouts though, I think. GIRL

Wedding ring on string test: hold your ring over you bump on a bit of string, if it swings in circles it means boy. Side to side means girl.
    - I don't have string, I have to skip this for now.

Heartrate less than 140bpm (boy) or 140bpm+ (girl)?
    - It was in the 150s a few weeks ago GIRL (where, OB said that this one is definitely not true)

Craving sweets (girl) or savoury (boy)?
    - Sweet GIRL

Suffered from morning sickness (girl) or none (boy)?
    - None BOY

RESULT: GIRL (even with skipping one). Some people are thinking boy, though, so we'll see!

@illumina: good work! you look all set for the first couple months. i sorted through everything over the weekend and am afraid i have a long way to go - although i am waiting to see what i get in the way of gifts before i make any more purchases.

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@illumina: yes, it definitely does make it more real!
@mrssquirreld: thank you! And the crib skirt is so cute! I am so impressed by your sewing skills!
@mrsmoreau: what insensitive things to say! Chalk it up to her being an older person and thinking they can get away with saying anything they want. I personally LOVE the name Penelope, it was on our short list if we were having a girl!

We are meeting/interviewing a doula in about 90 mins. Is anyone else hiring one? I really want a natural unmedicated birth and I think this is my best way to ensure one. It just seems surreal to be at this point, especially considering the one I wanted most from their online profiles is already booked.

@Mrs squirreld: WOW ! That is gorgeous! I love the fabric. I wish I had your talent!!

@mrsmoreau: I hate when people have opinions, lol. I think Penelope is a gorgeous name! Go with what you love and everyone will shut up once the baby is here anyway.

@illumina: Nice haul!! You are all set! My poor LO has maybe 1 outfit, lol.

@jetsa: Exciting! I totally would but they aren't the norm around here at all. I've seen an ad for one but she is 45 mins away. Plus I'm a wimp so will probably just go for the drugs, lol. I would like to have someone with me though who knows what they're doing (no offense, DH) so that I can make it as long as possible without drugs which is my goal.

    Old Wives' Tale...

Are you carrying High (girl) or Low (boy)?
    - I think low? BOY
Skin breakouts (girl) or dry hands and cold feet (boy)?
-Had some skin breakouts early in first trimester (nothing since though!) GIRL
Wedding ring on string test: hold your ring over you bump on a bit of string, if it swings in circles it means boy. Side to side means girl.
    - I did this last week...GIRL
Heartrate less than 140bpm (boy) or 140bpm+ (girl)?
    - Last apt was 145 - GIRL
Craving sweets (girl) or savoury (boy)?
    - I'm craving both chocolate (GIRL) and apples (BOY??)
Suffered from morning sickness (girl) or none (boy)?
    - None - BOY
RESULT: Girl! I felt like it was a boy for so long but lately I am thinking girl. Only 4 more months until we find out for sure!

Is anyone else starting to feel more intense movements?? After going so long without feeling any movements, I am definitely feeling kicks/flips now pretty regularly. DH even felt some jabs last night! He was so excited. The baby seems to chill out all day while I'm at work (I feel a little bit at lunch time while sitting down), then as soon I get home he/she starts kicking up a storm. Right before I go to bed seems to be the most active time! I am loving loving loving the kicks and it is really making it all seem REAL!

  34. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@char54: I feel some really strong kicks now a days. I haven't felt a true "flip" but I feel a lot of movement. Since he's head down I think he doesn't really flip around so much as flail his appendages. I do love feeling them though. They make me laugh out loud. I told DH that this morning when I sat at work he was having a dance party in my belly. I usually notice him moving the most in the morning or late at night..he usually is pretty sleepy during the day.

  35. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

    @Mrs squirreld: Great fabric!

@illumina: Lucky you! Looks like a great haul. I have literally one piece of clothing so far... the onesie I used to announce to DH I was pregnant =P

    @mrsmoreau: Ohh Grandma... lol

@char54: I've been feeling stronger and more frequent kicks. I love it! I noticed that baby kicks more when I get to the point of being stomach-growling hungry. Maybe the stomach growling is disturbing his/her sleep lol

  36. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@char54: I feel him move every day now. Definately mid morning (after my coffee...:-/) and late at night. The kicks are more definate kicks now rather than just flutters. Last night DH put his ear to my belly and started talking to him to see if he could hear him move. Bub kept kicking him, it was so funny/cute I love these moments!!

  37. illumina

    pomelo / 5469 posts

@char54: yep! Her movements are getting more intense all the time... I remember some point last week, she kicked me and I really sat up and took notice, it was so strong. I kind of freaked out a bit that she could do that already, but I'm used to it now. DH calls her "little whale" as apparently that's what she feels like when she rolls over. She has got into a bit of a routine as well, she'll be awake when I am eating my breakfast, then sleep until probably 3pm, then be kicking on and off until I go to bed. I feel bad when I'm lying in bed and you know when you toss and turn and switch sides every so often before you eventually sleep? Well when I do that, I feel her having to readjust her position each time!

  38. evenstar982

    apricot / 284 posts

@char54: @marionberry: @Mrs squirreld: @illumina: definite kicks here now most days, especially in the evenings once I settle down and start moving around less... still not sure I have felt a complete "flip" though - sometimes a sort of dull ache on one side or the other which is usually followed by kicks on the opposite side to where I last felt them, so I assume the 'ache' is while baby is flipping slllooooowly round?!
DH Is back on Saturday from his two week trip and I'm so excited for him to feel the baby since the movement is waaaay more discernible than before he left.

  39. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@char54: @marionberry: @Mrs squirreld: @illumina: I haven't had any intense movement but I feel the babe pretty well everyday now. Normally on and off from 3pm until I go to bed. Last night my dog used me to stretch away from and as she was doing so she smushed the belly on one side and the babe gave her what for by kicking and kicking that side, it was so funny. My husband can feel the movement now which is so cool. He said it still feels like bubbles to him but still very cool.

    @MamaMagpie: I love that name!!!!!

@Mrs squirreld: That is so darling, I'm very impressed with your skills!

@mrsmoreau: Rude. Some people have no sensor, even though I do think they mean well. I just told DH yesterday how I don't understand why people think my pregnancy is any of their business. Why do people think it appropriate to criticize or even comment on it?

@illumina: Wow, thats awesome. My stash of 7 onesies is looking mighty sad right now

@jetsa: I wanted to hire a doula a lot, but there really aren't many where I live, and they are pretty expensive, so I don't think its in our budget right now... But I'm still sort of hoping.

@char54: I feel the baby pretty frequently now! I think I'm starting to be able to tell that they are kicks or rolls or whatever now so thats exciting. I still haven't felt anything on the outside, but I make DH try to feel it regularly just in case
