Old Wives' Tale...
Are you carrying High (girl) or Low (boy)?
- I'm not really sure? In the middle? Inconclusive
Skin breakouts (girl) or dry hands and cold feet (boy)?
-HORRIBLE breakouts in the beginning and it has gotten better, but it is still worse than my normal skin. (girl)
Wedding ring on string test: hold your ring over you bump on a bit of string, if it swings in circles it means boy. Side to side means girl.
- So I didn't do this, but someone did some stick test with me, which I think is the same concept, and it said boy, but he said the stick was "fighting" him, so he doesn't believe it, he thinks its a girl.
Heartrate less than 140bpm (boy) or 140bpm+ (girl)?
- No clue, I'm bad at remembering these things, and asking if they forget to tell me!
Craving sweets (girl) or savoury (boy)?
- I'm craving sweets (like slushies and slurpees) (GIRL) and top ramen (BOY??)
Suffered from morning sickness (girl) or none (boy)?
- I was so so sick! (Girl)
RESULT: Girl! I think???

@char54: @pmerr: @MrsStormy: funny how all our "old wives" tests are predicting Girls - there was another thread with a poll about being TG and the vast majority of people on that ended up with girls so it'll be interesting to see how accurately this turns out for us!

@MrsStormy: I think I'm lucky in that we are in such a depressed area because my doula with 2 prenatal visits is only $300. Thats the only reason I was able to convince the husband, its a low enough amount that if it works great, if it doesn't it wasn't that expensive!
clementine / 818 posts
@jetsa: Wow, thats a great price! The cheapest I could find was like $700 and thats just a lot of money on top of my portion of costs for the labor.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@MrsStormy: thats the going rate around here and I'm so happy about it. I read an article on from NY yesterday about doulas being $2,000+ and there would just be no way we could afford that. Neither of our insurances will cover it as it is, although I'm hoping my husbands FSA will reimburse us, it is a medical expense after all.

@mrsstormy: thank you! We are so happy (and a little relieved) to have picked his name!
@char54: I'm definitely feeling some bigger kicks now and it's so crazy and amazing! DH has been able to feel them twice now and loves it. I'm now starting to notice more of a pattern, lots of kicks/movement in the late morning, then again in the evening after dinner, then again later at night around 10:30/11:00.
Isn't it going to just be so crazy when we'll be able to feel where their little body parts are (foot, tush, etc)?!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MamaMagpie: I can't wait to feel actual body parts! I am so excited to see his little foot pressed up against my belly. So awesome! And I love your name!

@marionberry: can.not.wait. And thank you!!!
I came home from work today to find that one of DH's clients gave us two very full shopping bags of her DS's baby clothes! Onesies, sleepers, even some hats and blankets! It was so sweet of her and now I feel like we have a great clothing stash started!

@MamaMagpie: yay for generous co-workers! It's like Xmas when it all arrives!
I was looking back through the thread and couldn't find the links, but did we share our pinterest board's somewhere in the past? I've been slowly adding to mine and I think I've got a good idea where I'm going with the nursery design now...

@Mrs squirreld: no kidding! We have ours during a full day labor and delivery course June 2. DH is already panicking because they show an apparantly very graphic, gory and detailed 80s birth movie. He is SO queasy with that kind of stuff. I told him that he doesn't have to watch it (I guess a lot of dads have to leave the room so they don't pass out?) I don't really know why I want to watch it either tbh. I'd rather go in blind I think and not know every little thing about what's happening down there!!
Has anyone else been having symptoms come back with a vengeance? I am getting these awful cramps throughout the day - I'm thinking constipation. They make me dizzy! After every meal I have wicked heartburn and have been poppin Tums like crazy.. I have my appointment tomorrow so hoping they will have something I can take.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@char54: oohh! Hahaha I'm the opposite, I'm a " i want to know everything kinda girl" I've seen about 20 or so birthing videos.. the first few were terrifying, but now I just bawl everytime the baby comes out... so magical and hey our bodies were designed to do this!! DH is dying to do some courses, which we'll find out about at the hospital book in. he's like me - wants to feel prepared! lol I'm excited though because this hospital is NICE it's brand new.. only opened a week ago, and it awesome, birthing baths, private rooms and all for free... gotta LOVE the Australian health system. But we still might be moving so this is just our back up plan!
Symptoms: YES, cramping/braxton hicks...whatever they are suuuuuck. And sometimes the pressure... I feel like he is kicking me in the pelvis! lol... and what frightens me is he is only going to get bigger, which means its only going to get worse! lol. I've had a bit of heartburn too, but I can usually avoid that by staying active after meals, not lying down etc.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@char54: @mrssquirreld: we don't do our childbirth classes until July but I heard we watch that same 80s video. I'm also in the camp of wishing I could go in blind. Our insurance sent us this big book on pregnancy and delivery and reading it yesterday made me feel weirdly uneasy. I just want to pretend labor isn't going to happen until it does and I can't turn around lol. Heartburn has increased for me too. Baby's head is in my pelvis so I agree the pressure can be really uncomfortable!

@Mrs squirreld: I was going to ask about leaking too... I have had two "incidents" now, want to ask my MW about it next week as so far it's only happened on the right hand side... Fortunately both times I was at home and noticed on time to change my top! Dreading it happening out in public!
Anyone else?

@evenstar982: That's my fear! lol I was thinking about starting to carry breast pads in my bag!

@marionberry: @Mrs squirreld: @char54: We are intending on taking the hospital class, breastfeeding, and child CPR in August. I assume we'll register for the hospital at this point too.

@marionberry: Are you moving this weekend? How excited are you!!!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Super excited! We get keys tonight! It's gonna be a very long weekend but very worth it. Thanks for asking.
I haven't leaked colostrum yet, at least that I've noticed.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@marionberry: EEEK!! I am sooo excited for you! And slightly jealous.. I soo want to know if we are moving or not, DH can apply for transfer in 2 weeks so we'll soon know! I can't wait to see pics of your nursery to be!!!! You must share, pretty please I am one of those freaks who loves moving... in saying that DH's work pays for our moves so I don't actually have to do anything...lol
pomelo / 5469 posts
@marionberry: good luck with your move! Make sure you schedule lots of breaks, do not lift anything and take it easy (this is what my parents keep lecturing me about!) Also can't wait to see photos of your completed nursery
@Mrs squirreld: @evenstar982: nope, no leaking yet. Maybe I need to be a little prepared for when I'm out, just incase!
clementine / 818 posts
@char54: I've been having some slight cramping. I also think I'm having heartburn (I have never really had it before) but its like a pressure above my sternum more towards the left side, and its pretty uncomfortable, mostly later in the afternoons of in the evenings.
@marionberry: Yay for moving. Hope the move goes great, and you feel instantly at home in your new place!

ladies, i just bought a bunch of stuff at oldnavy.com - tons of maternity on sale right now, and I use ebates, which give you cash back for online purchases. right now ebates is giving 14% cash back at Old Navy!!! if anyone is interested, here is my referral link: http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=UGA3k88UHQe8U5bCh61TxA%3D%3D
it's really easy to do, they have cashback at diapers.com, amazon.com, kohls, kmart, walmart... a TON of stores.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@mrsmoreau: I love ebates! I know you said something about weight gain, I'm up 15.6 lbs today. I'm swollen and so definitely carrying water but holy crap thats almost 5 lbs above the healthy amount given here: http://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/healthy-weight-gain
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@jetsa: @mrsmoreau: Yikes , I don't even want to step on the scale tomorrow morning!!! I feel like I've gained a bunch since my last weigh-in 5 wks ago. My not so healthy cravings haven't helped.
apricot / 251 posts
@jetsa: i officially hate all charts, guidelines, etc regarding weight gain. In my opinion, if your blood pressure is normal, the baby's heartrate is normal, and you are maintaining some amount of activity in your lifestyle, then how many pounds you gain doesn't much matter.
Those charts and such don't take into account if you were over/under weight pre-pregnancy, or muscle tone, or anything.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@mrsmoreau: @char54: yes definitely, my blood pressure is normal for me but it stays borderline high. Gah its so discouraging though to see those numbers on the scale and still have 1/2 way to go!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@illumina: @mrssquirreld: @mrsstormy: @evenstar982: @mrsmoreau: Thank you ladies! We get the keys in just an hour and I'm very excited. It's gonna be a ton of work though and our apartment is only half packed so I'm a little stressed out. And I will definitely show you any work on our nursery but I think it's gonna be awhile before it looks like anything worth showing.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@marionberry: Well we need "before" pictures still! lol I'm so excited that you will now have the keys! Hope the move goes smoothly
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Ok I will post a before picture later today. I did pick up a lamp base at target yesterday for his room but I didn't like any of their lamp shades so I need to keep my eye out for a good one.
