@SweetiePie: Water made me really nauseated last week. I usually chug and I was having trouble sipping through just two water bottles a day (I drink four normally, even pre-pregnancy)
Yesterday and today my MS has improved about 75% and it has freaked me out. But after our appointment I feel great!
@Torchwood: So team green = not finding out the gender? We aren't finding it out either! I want to limit the gender specific items, but I also just feel like I will be in a better place by finding out at the moment I see the baby rather than imagining what the baby will be like as a specific gender before I meet him/her. Maybe it is a little silly, but I feel really strongly about not finding out and our family is cool about it so far.
We did get an ultrasound today! New due date is 9/22 and everything looks good. HB in the 170's and measuring a day behind but I guess that's normal? What a huge relief to know things are on track and there is real a baby in there! And my husband liked our doctor so it is good to know we are both on board and won't need to shop around.

@gingerbebe: @tequiero21: All this talk of Korean food is making me sooo hungry! I'm not Korean but I did live in Seoul for a year. I do like dwenjangjiggae but I'm not sure I could handle the smell of the dwenjang right now. DH and I have been wanting to try some of the Korean restaurants near us since we moved here, but DD is so picky I don't think she would eat anything. She won't even eat rice!

So I woke up with no nausea today and didn't have to take a Zofran (day 2). I puked last night, but it was mostly just getting a bunch of acid out of my system. I felt a ton better after that, although I didn't have much of an appetite. Today, I woke up with no nausea and I usually need to eat within 10 minutes of getting up or I get really sick but I didn't need to rush to eat.
Instead, I've had a lot of exhaustion. I came into work about 90 minutes late because I just felt like I needed to rest a little, and yesterday I was just so tired all day. I hope its my MS starting to wean off, but of course I'm just freaking out that something's wrong. Sigh. I called my dr's office yesterday to see if I could get an ultrasound at my next appointment on Tuesday (I have my glucose and blood tests being run and I told them I'd rather make sure the baby is viable before going through all that). I'm still waiting for them to call me back.
I'm 9 weeks 4 days today so I feel like its a little early for MS to be tapering off but my coworker said her's went away at 10 weeks so maybe??
apricot / 441 posts
@gingerbebe: my nausea has been almost nonexistent yesterday and today. My mom said she was only sick from 6-8 weeks! Fingers crossed that things are already getting better for you... I am SO happy to be feeling ok-ish I'm having my first cup of coffee in two weeks! I haven't been able to stomach it until now.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@gingerbebe: From what I've heard, it's totally normal for MS to stop that early. And exhaustion is a good thing, in terms of being normal! I haven't slept less than 12 hours a day for weeks. Hope you're able to get a scan though, just so you'll feel better about it!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@gingerbebe I haven't had any severe nausea since week 8. I was feeling miserable and then woke up one day feeling somewhat normal and its stuck. I still feel super nauseas if I get too hungry and certainly have other symptoms (indigestion, exhaustion, etc.) but the horrible waves of nausea have definitely diminished in last 2 weeks.

for those of you drinking coffee and sodas, where do you stand on the caffeine/aspartame issue? i've [mostly] given up coffee (previously a daily drinker) and have the occasional non-diet soda for the caffeine or non-diet, no caffeine soda (sprite, root beer) about once a week when i eat out. i want to do what's best for the baby, but seriously need an afternoon pick-me-up in the form of caffeine or sugar...
eta: i also drink a ton of water! and previous to being in the family way, i had a daily coffee/latte and the occasional diet soda. so this whole non-diet thing is a bit of a revelation!
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
Thanks all. I'm taking advantage of not feeling sick while I can! Today I didn't feel sick or queasy as lunch approached and took my time deciding what I wanted to eat (instead of OMG WHERE IS THE FOOD I'M GOING TO PUKE AND DIE). I went and ate another hot roast beef sandwich smothered in horseradish and dripping with au jus with a Coke Zero/root beer combination and it was glo-ri-ous.
I've e-mailed my OBGYN bc his nurse still hasn't gotten back to me. I basically told him all my symptoms have gone away and that this was the only clue I had about my first MC (missed miscarriage). I told him I would really rather check that the baby is alive before being subjected to all the blood draws and glucose test, so we'll see what happens. Worse case scenario I can go to the ER and pay a $50 copay to have an ultrasound done there or buy a doppler.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@gksj: I'm working on the idea that limited caffeine (less than 2 cups of coffee a day-ish) is fine. I gave up artificial sweeteners a long time ago, and I'm won't even consider going back to those, but I'm okay with occasional soda. Ideally I'd buy the kinds made with real sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, but those are harder to find.

We had our appointment today, and all went well! It was so fun (and reassuring) to see that little heartbeat. I think I'm going to really love seeing these midwives. And they were very vocal about wanting to take steps to drop my chances of having another blood transfusion early on, even into the 2nd trimester.
@gksj: I don't avoid caffeine because I think it's dangerous (rather mostly because it can exacerbate constipation). I tend to have it a few times a week. From what I understand, there's not enough data to decide whether it's harmful or just how harmful it can be. I tend to avoid any kind of artificial sweetener, whether I'm pregnant or not.

@gingerbebe: Could you set up an appointment we a freestanding imaging center? I have a friend that paid $30 at one of those 3D/4D places for a basic ultrasound to get peace of mind.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Weagle: I could, but at the same time I think it would be SUPER AWKWARD if it ends up that there's no heartbeat or something and the tech has to sit there and tell me I've lost the baby.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@weagle glad you had a great appointment!
@gksj I think up to 2 coffees per day is fine caffeine wise. I gave up all coffee (and caffeine) but mostly because it sounds disgusting to me. I'm sure I will get back to it some day soon. I do like the very rare soda but I haven't had one since getting pregnant (other than ginger ale, which hardly counts since it was to make me not puke.)
pomelo / 5220 posts
@gingerbebe I hope everything is okay. When are you supposed to see Ob/Gyn next?
honeydew / 7463 posts
@gksj: I'm OK with the occasional caffeine. I have a couple of cups of coffee a week (used to have 1-2 daily). I don't really drink soda very often, so I'm not worried about the occasional Coke if I'm craving it. And I've definitely had some chocolate! Which we often forget to include as caffeine.
@gingerbebe: I wouldn't worry until you have something solid to worry about! Symptoms can be so sporadic so I wouldn't use that as a key indicator (says the woman who pokes her boobs all day long to see if they are sore yet).
@Weagle: Hooray for a great appointment! Glad you like your midwives!
Does anyone else have a persistent burning feeling in their stomach? Its not heartburn or hunger, I just feel like my stomach is on fire. I'm wondering if it is because the acid in our stomachs increases during pregnancy? (I think I read that somewhere).
coconut / 8498 posts
@gingerbebe: True. I would try not to worry. Like pp said, symptoms can be so sporadic and really aren't a good indication of how things are going.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Weagle: Glad you're loving your midwives! I really love mine. And hooray for a heartbeat! Though I'm surprised to see you say coffee can exacerbate constipation. I've actually been drinking it when I get clogged up because it has the opposite effect on me (and everyone I've ever discussed it with). Funny how different people react to things.
coconut / 8498 posts
@Torchwood: Caffeine can because it draws water out of you. Coffee can make you poop because of the acid, not the caffeine.
coconut / 8498 posts
@Torchwood: It usually has the normal effect on me though! Any other time than pregnancy - when I really need it!
honeydew / 7968 posts
@gingerbebe: definitely get a doppler! sonoline b is less than $60, i believe that includes shipping! it's total peace of mind!
@Weagle: glad u had a great appointment! i'm always sighing of huge relief after a successful appointment. lol.
@SweetiePie: wow, that sounds painful. can you take something for that?
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@SweetiePie: My husband has that - its like reflux/irritable bowels from acid. I don't think its anything to worry about, but perhaps try milder, blander, non-acidic foods for a few days.
My dr. emailed me back and says he will tell the NP to check for a heartbeat on the doppler or give me an ultrasound on my appointment Tuesday. In the meantime, I ordered a fetal doppler from E-Bay - should get here by Saturday. Doesn't really help me TODAY, but I guess if I still don't have symptoms tomorrow, I can go over to our ER and pay the $50 copay to have them check.
pomelo / 5607 posts
Does anyone know anything about dopplers, like which brands are good, or where is best to get them? I apparently don't know how to google, because I'm not having a ton of luck.
pomelo / 5607 posts
Wait, never mind. My cousin is sending me hers next week. She had said she would after her pregnant friend was done with it, but she made it sound like it'd be a long time. Turns out she was just waiting because she couldn't find the heartbeat until she was 20 weeks, so she didn't want me to freak out. I appreciate the thought, but she's morbidly obese, so I'm thinking I won't have as much trouble. And since she did warn me, I'll know that maybe if it's a crappier brand or something not to worry.
olive / 60 posts
@gingerbebe: the lack of pregnancy symptoms is definitely disconcerting, but you might just be having a good day! I actually haven't had any symptoms other than heartburn in the evenings, so I am in a constant state of nervousness... However my OB has assured me that everything looks good and that varying symptoms (or lack thereof) is perfectly normal. Good luck to you!
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@Torchwood: I hope you can find the HB! I have a sonoline b 3mhz doppler and love it.
I'm having a vicious cycle with zofran. I feel like death without it, but taking it makes me so.constipated. So, so badly. On the other hand, it takes away all my nausea. I finally had two regular days and tried to power through the nausea but I caved last night... and woke up constipated again. I don't know which is the lesser of two evils!
I have felt like the worlds world mom this week. I've been sick 24/7. Today was a huge iPad day. We laid in my bed from 12:30-2, when she took a nap, and then I laid back in bed until almost 5. I keep telling myself one more week, as if 12w is the magic number where all morning sickness disappears.
apricot / 441 posts
@Weagle: congrats on a good appointment! I felt the same way - reassured and a little giddy at the heartbeat.
@Mrs. Jump Rope: I hope 12 is your magic number! Don't know what I'd do if I were you - I guess all you can do is one day at a time. Keep putting one foot in front of the other (or one more show on the iPad!) Thinking of you.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
This baby waited until nearly 11 weeks to make my violently puke in the morning. Nothing like doing dishes and then WHAM. It was accompanied by that awful dry heave where it feels like your stomach is compressing and touching. ::Shudder.::
I looked like a hot mess dropping C off at preschool this morning. Emitrol + Ginger Ale for me because Zofran just messes up my stomach.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Mrs. Jump Rope: So sorry about that! Maybe its just gearing up for a growth spurt. I am convinced that's what happens because I get SUPER sick for like 2 days randomly and then at the ultrasound, is like "oh you're measuring 3 days ahead from last week."
As to constipation, I don't think I've been regular since 5 weeks, and I used to go EVERY morning. This week, I haven't gone since Monday and I haven't even been on Zofran the last 2.5 days, so I can't even blame it. I think my bowels just went on strike. I tend to stay off laxatives or anything during the week because who knows what will go down at work (but that made me super sick last weekend) so I'm trying to be a little more proactive this week before things get too bad. I got a coffee today and drank a lot of hot water last night to start things moving and will probably start the Miralax tonight. I don't know who mentioned the hot water thing, but I think its really helping though bc I was butt trumpeting a lot last night, much to DH's chagrin.
Speaking of hot water, I have been working on my "feeling overly full from water" problem by 1) switching from my chuggable water bottle to a Camelbak Eddy with the bite straw to encourage sipping and 2) drinking warm/hot water. I make the water hot enough so that I can't chug it, but not so hot I can't comfortably take a big sip. Its VERY calming to my stomach and it took me like 15-20 minutes to drink a 16 oz thermos last night.
::edited to add::
Praise be to the Lord Jesus Christ, the coffee and warm water worked!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@gingerbebe glad the hot water is working, I need to try that! Things are definitely slow on my end as well and its not comfortable by the end of the day.
@mrs. jump rope hope you are feeling a little better!
