i had another ultrasound this morning and the little gummy bear is doing great! the dr. estimated the heartbeat to be in the 170s. measuring a couple days behind my calcs, but my ob isn't worried since the growth is appropriate compared to my u/s a couple weeks ago. i set up my first official ob appt for the end of the month, when i'll be almost 11 weeks.

we are going to tell our families in march and then just telling friends as we see them over the next couple months. while we are super excited, we're not exactly comfortable making any official announcements.

@gksj: hooray for a good appointment!

I found out this morning that my cousin & his wife are expecting another baby... And are due 4 days before me!!

    @gksj: Congrats!

Ugh, I have a new symptom this week called "trapped burps that make me vom." Basically, I feel like I need to burp and its a really uncomfortable feeling, so I try to let it out and then it makes me gag and puke. So yesterday and today I've been chugging down a soda to get me to belch loudly (in the car or in my office) to clear the trapped gas out. Now I understand how our babies will feel after nursing. Its such a gross feeling.

I've also decided that the best way I'm going to get veggies into my system is by eating a lot more Korean food (I'm Korean), so I made a big pot of miso soup with veggies and tofu last night and ate it for dinner and breakfast and will have it for lunch again. There's so many vegetables in all of our cuisine that its basically impossible NOT to get a good dose of fiber. Plus the kimchi has a lot of probiotics, so I'm hoping that will help keep me on the reg.

Feeling not quite so queasy today - haven't taken a Zofran yet - but instead I'm super tired! Its gray and foggy today so perhaps that's part of it. I feel like I could go to bed right now.

@gingerbebe: I feel you on the trapped burps! I have had a lot of stomach gas this week. Yuck.

Can you share a good recipe for miso soup? That suddenly sounds really tasty!

@gksj: Glad to hear another good report! You have so much self-control to wait until March to tell family. Hope time goes quickly until your next appointment!

@gksj: hooray for a good appointment!

Y'all, this winter weather keeps screwing up my appointments! Last time I was lucky because the clinic opened on a delay, but this time I don't know what will happen. My appointment is Friday morning but we're supposed to get dumped on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Ugh!

@gksj: That's great news!!! So glad it went well We too are waiting until March to tell anyone, family included. We want to be 12-13 weeks this time. Its just been too hard getting everyone excited to be let down the last two times. I know 12-13 weeks isn't a guarantee that all will be alright, but still.

@gingerbebe: Ugh yep. The trapped burp feeling. I had that both of my other pregnancies and have felt it a couple of times this one. Its like a big lump in between my throat and chest and when I try to push it out I "vurp" (vomit-burp). Its such an awful feeling. The last pregnancy I finally started taking Zantac and that helped a little.
And YUM on the Korean food! Its one of my favorite cuisines. I live near Korea-town in NYC and we love going to the restaurants and markets there!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Aww, how fun! Congrats!

@Littlebit: @Mrs. Jump Rope: @gingerbebe: @LatteLove: thanks for the love! as each week passes, i feel a little less nervous about everything... it does help that we don't see our families that often, but dh and i talked about it and if we had a loss, we'd like to keep it to ourselves (even from our families) so that's why we're waiting! it is tough tho!

And I added how far along I should be then Thought that would be fun to add.

@LatteLove: Korean miso soup is a little heartier than Japanese miso soup. Our miso is actually a little different - its a little saltier/stronger than Japanese miso, but I'm sure either is fine. You dissolve 1/4-1/3 cup of miso (depending on how strong you like it) into 6-8 cups of hot water (or you can sub broth for part of the water - I just used a little Better than Bouillion) and a teaspoon of minced garlic. Let it come to a simmer for about 10 minutes to build the flavor and then add some chopped greens and your favorite veggies. I like 2 cups of roughly chopped Napa cabbage and 2 cups of bean sprouts (bok choy or spinach can work too, as well as zucchini slices) and a block of tofu diced into small cubes. Simmer without the lid on until the veggies are limp and soft (Napa cabbage and zuchinni takes about 15 minutes, the bok choy or spinach just take a few minutes). Add in 1/2 cup of diced green onion at the end and taste for salt. Sometimes I need a little extra salt, sometimes I need a little extra bouillion. I eat it with hot white rice.

God, I just sneezed like 4 times in the last hour and I feel light headed. I REALLY hope I'm not getting a cold/flu on top of everything. I may need to lay down in my sleeping bag at lunch today.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @gingerbebe: I am so grateful that there are other mommas on my due date board that I can relate to. I HATE that any of us have had losses, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one who was feeling pretty detached. I mean, I've been choosing to plan the nursery and work on my blanket and all, but until yesterday, and seeing the baby moving on the ultrasound, it was all very hypothetical to me. A lot of my thoughts were prefaced with "IF this one lasts" and that sort of thing. I think I'm finally starting to feel a little bit of a connection to this one, but it will probably be a while before it really feels like I'm *actually* going to have a baby. I posted on FB a few weeks ago, "I keep seeing babies and thinking, "Oh, I want a baby," and then I remember that I'm having one. I've been focused on getting and staying pregnant for so long that sometimes I forget that that's not actually the end goal." I think I'm finally starting to see the baby at the end, and not just the pee sticks. ETA- I also meant to say, I think I was focusing so much on the pregnancy because it's easier to lose a pregnancy than a baby. So if I wasn't thinking of it as a real baby yet, if something did go wrong it would be easier.

OMG March cannot come fast enough! Living with my mom is just exhausting me. I know I've complained before, but geez woman. She wanted to hang out with me and DH this weekend, which we did not want since that's our time. I found myself worried that she felt left out. And then I realized that there is no situation where it's healthy to worry that my MOM is feeling left out OF MY MARRIAGE. Oy. I think it'll be a lot better when we're living 20 minutes away and can just schedule times to hang out, instead of her expecting me to want to any time she's not working, since I'm here all the time.

Also, she got her feelings hurt today because I said I don't want her touching my belly every day, and that she should ask first. I thought it wouldn't bother me with family so much, but I also didn't think she'd start this at 10 weeks! You're not touching baby, you're just touching my fat, thanks. I told her no, because I was sitting slouched with no bra, so my boobs were basically on my belly, and she did it anyway. She says since she's my mom, it's okay. Um, no. We'll be having a talk about that if she doesn't stop. Oy!

Also, going to pick up a pink dye pregnancy test. I wanted a pretty picture of a positive test to put in my pregnancy journal, but all I have are some very blurry shots of wondfos. But I had to wait till I knew everything was okay. So now that I've had my ultrasound, time to pee on one last test!

@gingerbebe: mmmm. doenjang jiggae? it's one of my faves! (i'm also korean). i've been eating lots of kimchi jiggae and soondubu lately!

  14. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@gksj: Dwenjang gook with baechu and kongnamul. I also ate ddukboki as a "snack" this morning. I haven't been able to do a lot of spicy foods lately because of the heartburn, so dwenjang gook sounded good. Soondubu I love, but its not worth it to me if I can't have the egg in it, so I've learned to go without it for now. I can't wait until the heartburn thing gets better so I can have kimchi jjigae. My mom (who doesn't know about the baby yet) makes the best kimchi gook with kongnamul, so maybe I can stomach that instead.

Hi ladies! been kind of MIA - had a terrible day at work. I can't have wine so I had chocolate.

Glad everyone is feeling well(-ish, the burping thing sounds terrible!). All this Korean food sounds amazing. My SIL is Korean and always takes us to the best spots. Yum!

Um, I definitely had a sleeping bag lunch and slept under my desk today. Instead of feeling sick, I'm feeling tired today! I usually don't sleep during my lunchtime rests, but I nodded off for the last 10-15 minutes and was completely bewildered when my phone alarm went off (I set one just in case). Hopefully I will be okay for the rest of the day. Just as I started to worry I had no nausea, I dry heaved twice after I woke up, so that's good. No puking or intense nausea today and no Zofran. Maybe its just a good day??

I've been meaning to ask, anyone else on here Team Green? We are, and I'm rather excited about it. I think it'll be fun, though I expect it will drive me a little nuts too when I see something super cute that's gender specific and want it but can't know if it'll work.

It is, however, big shocker, causing trouble with my mom. She wants us to let the ultrasound tech tell her what it is, so she can start buying gender specific stuff before the baby arrives, and she just won't tell us. She's really upset that I said no. A- I don't trust her not to slip and spill the beans, to us or someone else. And B- More importantly, one of the main reasons we want to do this is so we don't wind up with as many gendered gifts! We don't want a ton of pink or blue.

  21. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@Torchwood: We are probably not going to be Team Green. DH and I have been feeling pretty strongly that its going to be a girl, so we want to find out as soon as possible to see if we're right! Not that we care one way or another, but in some ways I think it will help me feel that this baby is "real."

Your mom should be thankful she's getting a grandchild! That's how I'm going to treat my mom once I tell her (I have a feeling she will be so excited she wont care what I do, but she'll probably get annoying towards labor with all her hovering). Your mom will have plenty of time to shop for him/her when they arrive. They just live in diapers and PJs for a while anyway. I think the one nice thing about not knowing the gender is that it cuts down on a lot of junk that people want to give you. As it is, one lady in my bible study has already brought me 2 toddler sippy cups and a gyro-snack dish thing because they were laying around her house and she didn't need them anymore! I was like gee thanks, my kid wont need these for at least 2 years - what did you want me to do with them in the meantime!?

BIL/SIL found out they are having a boy in June, so I think it would be great if we had a girl and then we'd have one of each in the family around the same age. Baby fwends!

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@Torchwood: oh good for you! There's just no possible way I could wait. I could find out now because we did the IVF w/PGD and it's hard enough waiting till the traditional anatomy scan! We're going to find out at 12 weeks the doc just has to flip to a page in our file and it's killing me!

Does water make anyone else feel nauseous? The last couple of days, water makes me feel yucky and I am forcing it down.

  24. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@SweetiePie: Water is still my BFF, but I drink a particular kind of filtered water from our water service - any other water tastes gross to me. I've heard people experience water aversion though. Maybe keep a mint or a lemon drop in your mouth? Or add a lemon slice, mint, or cucumber to your water? Sometimes its my water bottle and I have to sterilize it.

@SweetiePie: yes! I've barely drank any water the past 2 weeks! I normally drink a ton! Been trying to stick to juice or milk, but soda has been feeling awesome on my stomach

  26. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@SweetiePie: Yep. I'm with @Littlebit. I actually gave up soda a while back (I was drinking 4+ a day, so drastic measures were needed), and now I'm finding myself drinking it again just because it sits so well. Water is sometimes rough.

  27. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@Littlebit: same! I've been chugging water until yesterday. Now it makes me feel sick. I still make myself because I know it's good, but at lunch I just HAD to have a ginger ale. It sounded so good! It was Boylans so I am telling myself it's a little bit better because it's probably more natural. True? Maybe not but I'll keep telling myself those sweet little lies.

  28. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@gingerbebe: that's a good idea! I should put some sliced fruit or something in it. I'll have to try!

@Torchwood: Ditto! I used to drink soda every day with lunch but stopped a few years back. It became an occasional treat instead. I'm afraid to revert back to my old ways!

Maybe I'll try soda water? The fizz of soda sits better with me but if I just have soda water/seltzer maybe that will do the trick.

  29. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@SweetiePie: I've been drinking soda every day for the last 2 days to force myself to burp (because of my trapped burp problem). I'm usually a Diet Coke drinker, but I've been drinking Diet Hansen's ginger ale or Diet Pepsi (less caffeine, lower acid than Diet Coke). It feels awesome.

That said, I LOVE La Croix sparkling water. The grapefruit and coconut flavor is my favorite. The coconut flavor doesn't actually taste like coconut - its almost like 7up flavored or something, but not acidic or sweet. I should go get a few cases!

  30. Mrs. Jump Rope

I drink a ton of water. Like 10-12 16oz bottles a day. Yes, I count.

    I pee ALL THE TIME.

I had to cut back on my pot of coffee a day. I drink one cup now. The headaches from cutting back on that was brutal!

  31. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

Also, I was thinking about it. I think the reason water makes me queasy sometimes is that I chug it. I think its a hold over from the first few weeks when I was constantly gasping with thirst. I never sip my water anymore - I chug like 8oz at a time. I think its making me feel too full too fast, while soda I sip slowly. Maybe I should try drinking the water slower.

  32. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@gingerbebe: yeah, agree. I should try that too! A big reason water has been making me feel sick is that I can feel it sloshing around in my stomach. Blah.

  33. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

So much for going without feeling sick today.

I felt hungry at 4:30pm so I ate a Greek yogurt and I don't know if it was too acidic or something (raspberry flavor), but I felt sick within 15 minutes and was dry heaving on the street while waiting for DH to pick me up. I was trying REALLY hard not to puke in front of work so I held it in until DH got there and immediately puked hot acid into my emergency "go bag." Then I came home and immediately rarfed up more bile and acid. Ugh. It like burned my throat and mouth.

Already in my jammies and sitting in bed with my laptop. I may try to eat some scrambled eggs and rice later, but I am beat.

Ugh, for some reason it only just really hit me that I'll need to wear a swimsuit while we're on our cruise (leave in a week and a half) and at my husband's company trip 2 weeks later. I have some from when I weighed more that should fit, but I'm going to be so self-conscious with how my body is changing! I wish we were going to both when I was a little farther along and look more definitely pregnant. Oh well. It's just vanity anyway, right?

@Torchwood: woo hoo!!!! baby looks like a baby! can't believe we're all here so quickly! i swear it feels like just a few short weeks ago that we all found out we were pregnant! hope u get a great pic of the stick! lol. and sorry you're mom's bugging you. i hated it when people touched my belly. especially people i didn't know.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: i know what you mean about feeling detached. i do feel much better knowing i got passed the 9 weeks of my first missed miscarriage. and that i have the doppler. but i don't think we, who have gone thru miscarriages, will ever really not feel the fear. and it's that fear that keeps us detached. at least until it starts to feel real. it'll feel much more real next week at my nuchal scan.

@gksj: yay for another great ultrasound! you have some patience! i'm dying to tell people now! but i'll wait until maybe my nuchal scan to start at least telling family?

@gingerbebe: soups have been really helping me too. altho i don't really like dwenjangjjigae (i'm korean too). soondoobu is good though. @SweetiePie: omg vurp, yeah i've had that too. NASTINESS! or i'm gagging and then all of a sudden it comes up and i close my mouth and run to the bathroom and am so disgusted, sorry, tmi.

    @Pancakes: hope you're appointment doesn't get canceled!

@Torchwood: not team green. honestly, i'd so be willing to. my hubby wanted to be team green with the twins. i said NO WAY! but now that we have one of each, i don't mind being surprised cuz i really don't care what we have. but i think he'll be really disappointed if it's a girl and he wasn't prepared for it (he loves our daughter, but he wants another son), so since i heard it's better to find out if someone would be disappointed, we're going to find out.

@SweetiePie: lucky! finding out so early! i want to see if the tech can get a pic of the nub so i can test the nub theory hehe. btw, glad you're getting more involved here! and water? yeah, i can't drink it without certain foods, so i'm in trouble cuz i know i'm supposed to be drinking a lot. i try to drink a lot of milk and juice to get more liquid in. and some soups. i don't like putting lemon or lime in my waters, so =T
