@farawayviolet: Oh god, if I don't eat like every 2-3 hours, I start to feel SO SICK. Its so annoying to find myself out of snacks (which is every day) and feeling queasy. I always think I pack enough but...its never enough. #fatkid

@Littlebit: I've been building a secret hidden Amazon baby registry. Amazon has a Chrome app now where you can hit a button and link stuff from other retailers and have it all linked into your Amazon registry, which makes life so much easier. Plus they have a 15% completion discount with Amazon Mom. I agree with @tequiero21 about waiting to see if folks with gift you with stuff. People get oddly generous around babies. Between our parents and grandparents and siblings, we'll probably get a lot of our bigger items covered. I'm pretty sure DH's grandma and my grandpa will want to get us something big, and I think our parents each will get us something large too, so I'm sort of assuming our crib/mattress, car seat, stroller, and high chair will get covered. The other stuff (bathtub, bouncers, swings, boosters, activity mats, etc.) are always on Craigslist for pennies on the dollar so I'd much rather buy used for those things.

@Littlebit: we haven't bought anything at all yet. Partially waiting to see what we are having, mostly waiting because the nursery is still my home office.

    Funny DH story:

I overheard him talking to his mom yesterday about the baby. (MIL is a preschool teacher). It sort of gives me some insight on how DH views all the "stuff" a baby needs. Gems from the conversation included the following:

"So, from what you're describing, it sounds like when a baby eats food, they make a damn mess. So instead of putting a poncho or bib on a baby in a high chair on a tarp and then letting the baby throw food all over the ground, can I just cut out the middleman and put a naked baby on a tarp, on the floor, and throw food down on the tarp? That way I can just take the baby and the tarp out into the yard afterwards and hose down everything down at once. No?"

"Okay, so what about cribs? So, instead of a crib, a mattress, a waterproof mattress pad, a sheet, an overnight diaper, a onesie, and a swaddle, can I just have the baby sleep in a Rubbermaid container wrapped in a towel? That way I can use the container as a bathtub and hose the baby and the container down in the morning and throw the towel in the hamper instead of having to wash 9 different things and buy a bath tub. No to that too, huh? Fine."

@tequiero21: Thanks, it is going well. I was the one with the cyst and the uterine blood clot, but it is all resolved. Now to simply get through perfectly normal and expected morning sickness and I'll be gravy!

@gingerbebe: haha thx for the laugh.

@farawayviolet: glad everything's been resolved! Always a relief! Morning sickness will be over before u know it. At 15 weeks, I already feel like it's getting better!

@ Gingerbee: that is hilarious, love how men can be so practical and problem solving focused! I'm still giggling.

I had my NT scan and first midwife appointment today. Scan looked great, baby is measuring on track with a strong heartbeat. Feels like such a relief to know everything is ok, we'll probably start telling friends and extended family now. Going to try and keep it a secret at work for a few more weeks but I'm already showing so not sure how long I can hide it for.

Hope everyone's Friday is off to a good start!

@farawayviolet glad your cyst resolved! You need to eat! I would never survive on no calories until 4:30... I've already had 2 breakfasts today!

@littlebit I haven't bought or researched anything. My mom has been looking at stuff way more than I have. I will make a registry at some point, but I think I will do that in May or early June.

  8. tequiero21

    honeydew / 7968 posts

@London Mama: yay for another good appt!

@psw27: might want to do it earlier than later! Typically, people throw showers 2 months before due date.

    pomelo / 5220 posts

@tequiero21 Good point! I am sure I will get to it eventually. We have a ton of house projects going on right now and I can't imagine tackling the overwhelming registry project right now! My friends and family are spread out all over the country and probably wouldn't fly in for a baby shower so I can't imagine having a huge shower where I need a lot on my registry to begin with. It would mostly be so that I can get a completion discount at the end.

@farawayviolet: So glad that your cyst and clot are all better! Hope that helps you relax and enjoy more

@London Mama: Yay for another good appointment! So glad!

12 weeks today, hallelujah! One more week and then we'll finally tell our parents and friends. And next week we're on vacation so it's a nice distraction/celebration

    Happy Friday everyone!

Speaking of buying stuff, I got my Old Navy maternity order!

I grabbed a pair of these side-panel skinny jeans because I only ever see side panels on the really expensive brands (that don't fit my #fatkid self anyway) and they are SO COMFY. I'm wearing them today for casual Friday and its so nice not to have a button digging into me!

My SIL who is due in June says she has been living in 2-3 pairs of these yoga pants, so I got a pair too, but I'm not far along enough for them yet. My regular yoga pants are starting to feel a little tighter in the belly, so I'm sure I'll need them eventually.

I also bought this jersey t-shirt and its soooo comfy and soft!

@SweetiePie: Congrats on twelve weeks! Happy friday.

@gingerbebe: Oh, those jeans looks comfy but they only have two sizes left! bummer.

Most people that are close to us know the news now, but I'll finally blog about it this weekend. Feels so good and also weird to finally have the news out in the open!

@gingerbebe: I love old navy maternity! I'm waiting for the weather to warm up so I can justify buying shorts and tank tops!

    @LatteLove: I love your announcement!

For the last week or so I've been sleeping like crap. My snoogle feels in the way but regular pillows aren't enough to support my belly/legs. I've been tossing and turning and not sleeping which really sucks.

I also don't feel like eating. It's 6pm and so far today I've had a cup of coffee and Italian bread dipped in oil with Parmesan & oregano. So, when I'm 500lbs and wonderif why... Well, now ya know. But really, I haven't been having cravings and NOTHING sounds good.

  17. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I swear, I feel like you are my spirit animal. I have had sleeping problems this week too! No matter what arrangement of pillows and blankets I use, its not "right." I keep putting off buying a Snoogle because I feel like logically 5 pillows, including a long king-sized one, should suffice, but perhaps I'll accept one as an anniversary gift from DH. Or maybe I'm just afraid it wont solve my problems and I've blown $50.
Also, I'm basically obsessed with sourdough bread. Hot, chewy fresh sourdough. With butter. Mmmm.

    @LatteLove: So tutes!

@SweetiePie: nice! Where are u guys going? I really really want to go away. Don't think it'll happen tho, so sad.

@LatteLove: really cute announcement. Don't think we are going to announce officially, but we are starting to tell people.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: seriously, since the start of pregnancy, bread was the one thing that never made me feel bad lol. Mmmm.

So, we had our inspection today! No major issues. Really nice to hear that everything was built well and some features were really nice that not even commercial buildings have. nice to hear u r buying good quality stuff.

  20. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@tequiero21: That's a relief the inspection went well. I've had friends who've had bad inspections that just broke their hearts because they loved the house so much.

What a day. I had my 3 hour glucose test (fingers crossed I passed), and then afterwards we went to check out a new car. (The dealership was next to the hospital). DH and I are fiscally quite conservative and intended to drive our paid-off cars until they died, but DH has a super commute that is becoming REALLY expensive in his old SUV, which is really fuel inefficient. My car is too old to make that long of a drive, so we were feeling a little stumped. (We spent MONTHS last year looking for a fuel efficient used car we could buy cash but couldn't find anything that fit our needs).

We generally think leases are a terrible idea financially, but we learned last week that leasing a plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle would make us eligible for a cash rebate from the state and an all-access sticker for the HOV lane (I thought they were only available if you BOUGHT the car). Essentially, we'd actually save money leasing the darn thing.

Toyota was running a special on their plug-in hybrid with a bunch of incentives, so once we did the math it seemed dumb not to go check it out. DH loved the car and said the HOV sticker alone would shave 30 minutes from his commute during rush hour, so we decided to go with it! Even with the increased insurance cost on a new vehicle, we're still saving a few hundred dollars a month in fuel costs alone! So weird how that worked out.

    On a separate topic...A rant.

Things that have been getting on my nerves this week:

When people ask you what you're thinking about doing with regards to certain baby decisions, like childcare, maternity leave, house, etc., and then when you tell them your answer, they completely poo-poo your answer!

If you have an opinion on the matter, just say what it is, instead of asking me what my thoughts are and then laugh at me for being naive or shutting me down about it. I asked DH if he thought I had handled some of these conversations politely enough because I've been easily irritated lately. He wasn't super thrilled by the way people were speaking to me either, but advised me to just say "we haven't decided yet" instead of actually sharing my opinion and thus avoid the problem altogether. Fine.

I just think as a FTM, we all have plans and assumptions on how things are going to play out, and I think we all realize that some of those things are just not going to work. I know most of the time people mean well, but all of these decisions are so personal and so child-dependent that what worked for you may not work for me. I've gotten shut down or laughed at because my ideas about things weren't practical enough (because I said I've toyed with the idea of cloth diapering), but then on the other hand, I've gotten poo-pooed because I didn't have a detailed enough plan for other stuff (I made a conscious decision not to stress out about childcare yet). Seriously? I just finished my first trimester today. I've been sick as a dog for 2 months straight. Forgive me if I haven't created a short list of the daycares I want to tour already.

    End rant.

    honeydew / 7968 posts

@gingerbebe: glad things worked out w the car! That's awesome how it worked out!

And people can be so obnoxious. Seriously, stfu! I would have loved to try cloth diapering, but in the end, my laziness won out. U still have time to look for childcare. Hopefully u have lots of family and friends around!

@gingerbebe: that's awesome about the car!

@tequiero21: congrats on passing inspection! When do you close?

15w today and exhausted. Chloe came into our room at 6am, messy hair over her face, and grabbed my arm and said "hi mommy." Holy crap she gVe me a heart attack. I wish she'd sleep in a pony tail. Otherwise she looks like the girl from The Ring!!!

@gingerbebe: We went car shopping yesterday too! We're pretty sure we're getting a used Honda Odyssey. I feel like once that's bought we'll have accomplished the trifecta of adulthood: 1.5 kids, mortgage, and a minivan.

    @lattelove cute announcement!

@mrs. jump rope Hope you feel better! So lame how MS comes and goes. Are you overtired? I think being tired makes my nausea come back.

@tequiero21 woohoo on a good inspection!

@gingerbebe I have nothing planned. nothing. and I too am easily irritated and have no answers to many of these questions. I basically tell everyone that I have been surviving for the last 14 weeks and I am just happy to start feeling better and will figure it all out later. Daycare definitely stresses me out to no end though... its very hard to find anything affordable in my city and wait lists are 9 months-1 year so I have to apply ASAP.

@psw27: I am utterly exhausted. I've been sleeping poorly at night. I've been having a rough time falling asleep, and then I wake up 2-3x to pee. I'm not getting consistent sleep at all. I napped twice on Saturday but I am still downright exhausted.

  30. psw27

    pomelo / 5220 posts

@mrs. jump rope totally get ya on the restless sleep lately. I can't fall back asleep after bathroom trips.. blah. That is probably making your MS 10x worse

  31. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Ugh I'm so sorry. I'm starting to get the restless leg thing at night, so that's making sleep harder to come by too!

My 3 hour glucose test results came back. Dr hasn't sent the official "you don't have GD" e-mail yet, but from the numbers it doesn't LOOK like I have it. So semi-cautious yay!

I feel like I accomplished a lot this weekend: 3 hour glucose test, getting the car, hosting Bible study, church, and having lunch with friends yesterday. But it also feels like my weekend was super short because we were active! Did not get enough rest. Sigh. I could really use a do-over weekend. Couldn't get to sleep until 1am and had a rough time getting out of bed this morning. Showed up to work 12 minutes late! Didn't get grocery shopping done so I have nothing for lunch except a yogurt and some clementines I made DH go buy for me last night. I did at least stick a corned beef in the crockpot this morning, so hopefully that will be tasty.

What's going on today for the rest of you?

  32. Littlebit

    nectarine / 2932 posts

@gingerbebe: your glucose test sounds promising! I am DREADING doing that test!

I got my NT results today - low risk for downs and trisomy..so I'm pretty happy!

@tequiero21: Congrats on the inspection! What a relief that must be! We're going to Panama (the country, not the city in Florida). Cannot wait, only one more work day this week! Its such a long overdue trip. And we're also trying to plan a babymoon in Italy in June, so I need to get cracking on that!

    @LatteLove: Cute cute cute announcement!

@gingerbebe: Yay for a new car AND saving money. Win-win all around!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Sorry you're not sleeping well I'm not there quite yet, but I am finding that my left side is the most comfortable these days. Right side gives me heartburn/upset stomach, which has never happened before! So I am doing a bit more tossing and turning.

Hope everyone had a nice Monday! I launched 2 big projects in the last week so it feels kinda low key as I'm ramping up for the next couple. Enjoying it while it lasts!

  35. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@Littlebit: Woohoo for good NT results! Congrats!

@gingerbebe: Ugh, that's the worst! I had one last week and it was so bad I couldn't think straight at work. I finally broke down and took a couple of Tylenol and it worked! Hope you're feeling better soon.

@SweetiePie: Ooh, Italy in June! Italy is my favorite place in the world and I'm super sad we couldn't squeeze another Europe trip in before baby comes (we went last May). I will be vicariously living through your babymoon!

We are going to SF in May for our last real vacation, and then will visit my fam in Chicago in July for a baby shower for me and a friend's wedding. Feeling like I need to squeeze in ALL the travel over the next 6 months!

  38. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@LatteLove: Totally! We have so many places we still want to see and although I'm sure we'll still travel it'll just be that much harder with a baby in tow or to leave with grandparents.
I have a friend's wedding in San Fran in August and I just don't know that I'll be able to swing that...its a long flight for being 7+ months pregnant!

  39. Mrs. Jump Rope

    blogger / coconut / 8306 posts

@SweetiePie: I would ask your OB if it's ok before booking a flight. My ob had me canceled our July beach vacation because she wanted me in a 2-hour radius after 27 weeks.

Could be because I had preterm labor with Chloe.. The more I thougt about it, the more I realized how I didn't want to give birth in the outer banks, either!

  40. SweetiePie

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Oh yeah, for sure! I'm going to run all of my travel plans past her.
