@SweetiePie: I was surprised she told me to cancel and stay close. She said ideally, I should get a vacation "out if the way" in May.

Checking back in! We got back from our trip yesterday, but I haven't had any computer time. The trip was GREAT. By far the best company trip we've been on so far (they're every year), including the one to Hawaii. (As a side note, if anyone is in computer programming (or their SO is) and doesn't mind getting moved, DH's company is hiring and is the BEST company I've ever dealt with.) DH surprised me with an afternoon at Disney (Hollywood Studios, had to go on the Star Wars ride!), and as I mentioned we went to Harry Potter World for family night. They rented it out, so it was extra amazing, even if I couldn't ride on anything. Overall awesome.

I'm a little sad to be home, like I always am after a good trip, but I'm also happy to get back to working on painting the house so we can get moved. Unfortunately I now have to get up at 6am to take DH to work, or else I'm stuck at my mom's and can't do any work. I took a blanket and pillow and slept on the floor till noon, then worked all afternoon. I think I'll find the air mattress and take it over there. Thankfully I'm having NO issues sleeping (I can still sleep in my own lap, but I expect that'll end soon), so the sleeping on the floor isn't bad.

The excitingest news (that's a word, right? ^_^) is that I finally got the doppler from my cousin, and we found the heartbeat immediately! I am SO happy! I need to go to bed, but my mom gets home in an hour, so I'm waiting for her to get home to hear it. Not sure if it's because I know she'll want to, or just because I want to do it again, but whatever. It's exciting.

Glad it sounds like everyone is doing well, if not 100% on the sleep and MS front. Hope everyone is feeling all better soon!

Also, how are things on the peeing front for ya'll? I'm feeling less like I have to pee literally every 10 minutes, but I seem to have lost my ability to tell if I actually need to pee, unless I'm just bursting. I kinda feel like I need to all the time. I think I may call the midwife and see if she thinks I have a UTI, but normally when I have one, I KNOW, because they're really painful. So it would seem weird to me to have one and no pain when peeing.

Also, been having the most bizarre stabbing pain if anything touches my clit, like when I pull my pants up to hard, or just wipe a little wrong. I have no idea what that's about, except that it's not far from my urethra, so possibly related to UTI issues? Again, guess I'll be calling the midwife. But I'm a total prude at heart, so I'm really dreading having to explain the location of the pain. Typing it here is fine, but don't like saying it! Sigh, the joys of being raised fundamentalist.

@ Torchwood: your trip sounds amazing! And your hubby's company sounds pretty great too. Are you going on any more trips pre-baby?

I know exactly what you mean about feeling like you need to pee constantly, I've put it down to things growing and expanding and putting pressure on my bladder.

For the first time in my life I have a really big cold soar on my lip, it looks terrible but I can't use anything for it without getting a prescription from my doctor, the pharmacies won't sell me anything while I'm preggers. And I feel really silly for going to the doctor for a cold soar! Maybe I'll just wait it out and wear a balaclava for the next week...

my utter lack of symptoms the last several days has me super paranoid.... i don't have an appt. until the end of the month, so i went ahead and ordered a doppler from ebay. i feel so crazy and hope that i am just over-reacting.

@Torchwood: Welcome back! Sounds like an amazing trip - I'm a little jealous of those kinds of company perks (I work for the state! and my husband is a pastor)

I slept through the night until 5:30am without having to pee and it was GLORIOUS.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Oh, boy. We already booked our tickets for Chicago when I'll be 29/30 weeks. I will be devastated if my dr. says no! But I am going to place with amazing medical care very close by, so hopefully if all goes well the next 16 weeks it will be fine?

@LatteLove: the more I think of it, the more I think it's because they're being overly cautious after what happened in my first pregnancy. I looked up the APAs travel guidelines and it says as long as you've got a healthy pregnancy you can travel (but some airlines restrict travel 8+ months).

27 weeks is what, six months? Seven? They haven't come right out and said it but I think it's because of my preterm labor with Chloe

@torchwood welcome back! Sounds like an awesome trip. I wish I could sleep comfortably!

@gksj I hope everything is okay. I'm sure you are just enjoying a few days of 2nd trimester respite! You could always call your doc and head in if you are worried.

@mrs. jump rope Eek I didn't even think to ask before I booked flights to St. Thomas in June... I think I will be around 26 weeks. I need a beach vacation so this baby better cooperate!

Today in hot mess preggo land:

    1. I took a 45 minute snoring/drooling sleeping bag nap under my desk during lunch.

    2. Had a Diet Pepsi, ranch flavored Corn Nuts, and peanut M&Ms as my afternoon snack.

    3. Am contemplating more Diet Pepsi and Corn Nuts.

    4. Got a $6 dollars off 2 entree coupon from Outback Steakhouse in my e-mail and remembered that we still have $14 left on a giftcard someone gave us. So I sent DH an e-mail that read "ANNIVERSARY ROMANTICAL DATEZZZZZ" (tomorrow is our anniversary but DH will be working late). He was like "ALL OVER IT."

@gingerbebe happy anniversary! Hope dinner was delicious

@mrs. jump rope gotta love unnecessary comments. what are you supposed to do with that statement? go on a diet? ha. I'm sure you look fabulous!

I am wearing maternity pants at work finally! Why didn't I do this... 6 weeks ago? ahhh elastic, so much more comfy than jamming myself into normal pants!

  12. London Mama

    apricot / 475 posts

@ Psw27: maternity pants sound amazing! I seriously have not worn pants for the past 6 weeks, I've worn a skirt or dress every single day to work and even then my wardrobe selection is dwindling.

I did treat myself to some nice maternity jeans the other day but I just don't want to spend the money on clothes for the office! What are you other bees doing for work appropriate maternity wear? Are you going shopping or making what you already have last?

  13. psw27

    pomelo / 5220 posts

@london mama I have been still doing lots of dresses and skirts but the skirts are getting a little snug. I was toughing it out with black pants but was too uncomfortable so I got 2 pairs of black pants at Gap. I had a 40% off and free shipping so it wasn't too expensive. I spend more time at work than I do anywhere else so I didn't feel too bad justifying it.

I'm trying to find some cute not too expensive jeans since I will only wear those 1-2 days a week on the weekends plus I am hoping to live in dresses and skirts once it finally warms up here.

  14. Mrs. Jump Rope

    blogger / coconut / 8306 posts

@psw27: haha I don't think she meant I looked fat! Just that cousin and I both 15 weeks and I've got a big bump and she doesn't.

The no sleep is killing me. I took benadrly out of desperation last night and slept from 11-1. I was up until 3:30, then Chloe's got up at 5.... And we never went back to sleep.

My mom is coming back over this afternoon to watch Lo so I an try to nap.

  15. psw27

    pomelo / 5220 posts

@mrs. jump rope I know she didn't mean it like that, its just like one of those comments that you're like "oh okay, thanks." I hope you get some rest this afternoon!

@London Mama: So far, I've been making do at work with 2 pairs of low-panel black pants, 3 long maternity tank tops, 2 tunic-y tops, and a maternity dress - all from the clearance rack. I supplement my wardrobe with some looser tops, lots of long cardigans, and a long black stretchy skirt - all of which I already owned. I basically wear black or gray every day anyway. I don't care if I look like I'm wearing the same thing every day.

I did recently buy a pair of inexpensive maternity jeans, yoga pants, and a stretchy top to be more comfortable on the weekends. Its still a little brisk here, so I just wear coats or sweatshirts on top.

So, I had an interesting experience last night/this morning:

The prenatal clerk calls me last night as I'm walking out the door from work to meet DH for our anniversary dinner. She tells me that I passed the 3 hour glucose test but that I failed my fasting blood sugar test (their standard range is 60-94 and I got a 96). As a result, they want to treat me like I have gestational diabetes and have me start monitoring my sugar with the finger pricks and follow the GD diet.

I told her that my fasting sugar (which has been tested a lot since my brain surgery last year) has never been high and could it have been elevated due to the fact that she told me to eat half a sandwich before I went to bed the night before the test. I told her I would typically never eat a half a sandwich at 10pm, so is it possible that would have elevated my sugar. She tells me no, it wouldn't have affected my reading if I fasted 10 hours before the test. I said if that was the case, why did I have to eat the sandwich in the first place? She said it was to stabilize my blood sugar.

I asked her if I could retake my fasting blood sugar without the sandwich, because I really felt like my result was a fluke. She said if I rejected the medical advice being given to me I would have a big baby and be disregarding the advice of their high risk perinatologists. And if I wanted to retake the test, I had to retake the entire 3-hour exam.

I told her that was completely unreasonable. There is no reason to retake that awful 3-hour test if I would have already failed based on my fasting number.

She got testy with me and said that if I didn't comply she would tell my doctor that I'm refusing treatment. I said fine, tell my doctor, I would much rather speak to him. She said fine and hung up on me.

So of course, I go to dinner fuming angry and it ruins my evening because I'm ranting and raving about it all night long.

I get to work this morning and my doctor calls me. He's like "so, I have like several messages from the prenatal clerk saying I have some difficult patient who's gone off the deep end about her blood sugar readings and says you're flipping out - what's going on?" I explained the situation and asked if the stupid sandwich could have thrown off the reading.

The doctor said he didn't really understand why they would have told me to eat the sandwich in the first place! He said it totally could have been a fluke and that it sounded like I just needed to retake my fasting blood sugar test.

    THANK YOU!

He DID say that if I failed the second test I really needed to follow the GD protocol, and I said sure, absolutely. I am not averse to following the diet if I actually have GD, but I'm not convinced I do yet. So I have to retake the fasting this week.

The sad part is I apparently have to take the 3-hour test again at 28 weeks like normal preggos to make sure I don't get GD towards the end of my pregnancy. But if I pass my fasting test tomorrow, I can be left alone for the next 3 months at least.

Dr. apologized for the clerk being difficult and told me she's probably not used to being questioned by patients, much less an "attorney-type." I guess its his way of saying I'm high maintenance? I don't know. Whatever.

    End rant.

  18. psw27

    pomelo / 5220 posts

Umm @gingerbebe this really pisses me off on your behalf. First, because you were asking simple and reasonable questions. Second, because you have the RIGHT to refuse to listen to medical advice... that doesn't make you "difficult" or mean you were "flipping out."

The clerk sounds like a drama queen - she left several messages for the doctor based on one conversation where you had one basic question - can I take just the fasting test again? I'm glad the doctor apologized for her behavior! Surely you cannot be the only patient in their practice who asks questions like these... sheesh. What a bummer it ruined your anniversary dinner.

  19. Mrs. Jump Rope

    blogger / coconut / 8306 posts

@gingerbebe: I'm glad your doctor is letting you retake the test! It's boggles my mind that she'd tell you to eat a sandwich because it won't affect the test results when your doctor told you the exact opposite. Was he not aware that's the rules his clerk was setting?

  20. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@psw27: @Mrs. Jump Rope: Thank you! I'm glad I didn't sound completely ridiculous. I apologized to the doctor for being rude to the clerk (I got pretty hardass towards the end of the conversation when she got snippy. I was using phrases like "that is flat out ridiculous....I will absolutely not do any such thing...you are being completely unreasonable...") But seriously, I'm pregnant and hormonal and have zero patience for anything right now. I told the doctor she was telling me I'd have a huge baby if I didn't follow her instructions and made me feel like I was some abusive mother. I told him I fully realize I have an elevated BMI with diabetes on both sides of my family and given my history of losses, I obviously want to do anything that will keep my baby healthy, but that I did not appreciate being threatened by the clerk.

    Blech.

@gingerbebe: I hope u can make sure she doesn't work on your case! What a biatch. U don't have to deal with that crap. Hmm. I think I may talk hardass a lot too because I will tell people they are being ridiculous if they are! Good luck on your retest. Hope they can leave u alone for the next three months!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: omg I feel your pain. My kids keep waking up lately. I can easily put them down for the most parts, but I keep getting interrupted sleep which is slowly killing me. I think I may have flipped out on the kids in front of everyone at church. They were seriously driving me nuts! Ugh.

@Torchwood: did u find out if u have a uti? Ugh. Sounds painful!

Had my 16 week appt today. All is well! They took some blood for the spinal defect test. Got a pic haven't scanned yet, but it's just of the baby's head w arm up. Not even a face shot. I guess he thought it was funny or something lol.

So on the house front, found out septic is not made for the number of bedrooms so we are prolly backing out of the deal. My hubby was getting cold feet anyway so guess it worked out. O well. Gotta start looking at houses again, which I'm so sick of.

@tequiero21: BOOO that sucks! But at least you caught it now. I can't imagine how stressful housebuying is going to be someday. We spent 2-3 months looking for a car last summer and stopped because we were so sick of it. So glad we got the stupid Prius this weekend finally!

Holy crap, I just announced on FB. Its our anniversary, so I was just posting something wishing DH a happy anniversary and next thing you know, I attached a picture from NT scan and just hit "post." Now I'm terrified! I wasn't going to post until our anatomy scan in 6 more weeks but...eeeek!

  24. Mrs. Jump Rope

    blogger / coconut / 8306 posts

@gingerbebe: I had an awful experience with my PCPs nurse late last week. Long story short, my asthma medicine was over $120 more than what I expected because our insurance showed our deductible having been met, but it actually wasn't. I still don't understand the point of having an online system that I can check IF IT ISN'T ACCURATE.

I called my doctors office to see if they had a sample or a coupon. I have no idea what this nurse told my doctor, but she (the nurse) called me back a few hours later and said that my doctor called in two different asthma medications "because you're pregnant and need to keep your asthma under control." She told me the doctor was doing this "as a favor" since I hadn't been seen in office in over 6 months.

Well, it IS under control. I was just shocked by the price since I was expecting it to be much, much less. I asked for a fucking coupon, not a new prescription.

Meanwhile, the two scripts combined ended up meeting our deductible balance so my pharmacist called me to let me know my Advair was now $35

Then I completed two online tasks by our insurance company to satisfy the remainder of the deductible. BOO-YAH.

But still, what a horrible nurse!

@tequeiro21 super bummer about the house... looking can be such a pain.

@gingerbebe so fun you announced! I don't do FB but I am sure the love is pouring in for you guys.

Anddd I just had a crying meltdown at work. I asked my husband to be home on a certain date (marathon monday in Boston) because I had a really traumatic experience last year and I know I will be spazzing out that day and I have my anatomy/gender scan on Wednesday of that week and another appointment on Friday of that week. Now he apparently has to go out of town for work from Sunday-Friday of that week. Oh and Sunday is Easter and I have no family locally so I will be alone...

  26. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@Mrs. Jump Rope: What is it about snarky nurses that gets my panties in a bind? I think its that if I have a crap doctor, I can just fire him and go to someone else, but I can't FIRE the nurse, yanno? All the other clerks I've worked with have been incredibly nice but the one that pissed me off works with the regional high risk center so I guess she feels high and mighty, I don't know.

That really sucks about your asthma medicine but at least you get the deductible out of the way and will be *extra* covered on the asthma front with that gold-plated medication.

My allergies are killing me today and I can't breath out of my nose so my mouth is constantly dry from mouth-breathing. I'm also annoyingly watching my carbs today so I can pass this stupid fasting blood sugar test tomorrow morning. I think overall a GD diet is totally reasonable (its not really low carb even), so I wont be bummed if I have to monitor my diet, but I just want to prove that stupid nurse wrong.

  27. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@tequiero21: I did wind up calling, and they agreed that it doesn't sound quite like a uti. She said it might be the pressure from the baby irritating my bladder, and to drink extra water and take warm baths, and if that didn't help to call again. It's mostly been fine, so I'm thinking it's nothing. I've always had an easily irritated bladder, and this isn't painful like a uti, so I'm not worried if she's not.

I have just booked my consultant and hospital for delivery, over here in the UK pregnancy and birth is not covered by private medical insurance as it is not considered a medical condition, more a fact or state of life. All care is provided in the public system and if you want to go private you have to pay yourself (uncomplicated vaginal delivery will cost you about $25k).

As it turns out my firm offers maternity cover so I've gone for it and booked a private consultant and hospital, and it also turns out my doctor is one of the doctors that helped the Duchess of Cambridge give birth last year so now I feel like a princess haha! My insurance company did just send me a letter of guarantee though which is such a huge relief as I don't need to worry about any shortfalls or deductibles..

I ordered my diaper bag off Etsy from a seller in Spain and I just got it yesterday - I am so excited! I love it! It can change from a crossbody bag to a regular purse length...and I love how it doesn't 'look' like a diaper bag. I need to get a diaper bag organizer because it only has one pocket..but overall I love it! Here's a picture of it (and my 14week bump)...excuse the wrinkles, I'm hoping those come out once I fill it up.

@London Mama: It's from this shop in Spain - https://www.etsy.com/shop/marabaradesign?ref=l2-shopheader-name Overall it took 3 weeks from when I ordered it til when I received it..but it's worth it..I love it! The only thing I don't love is that it's cloth - not something that's easy to wipe down. But I'm not *too* worried about that.

@Littlebit: Super cute bag! (And bump!)

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Haha, well at least you had a good time.

@London Mama: That's so awesome how that worked out! Its so nice not to worry about that stuff.

Took my fasting blood test this morning. I took some pointers from my BFF who's a diabetic. He told me to get into the lab as early as possible and drink some water before going in. He said there's something called the dawn phenomenon where your body starts kicking out glucose at 6am to start gearing up for the day and so if you wait too long you could get a higher reading. I ate very well yesterday so if I fail this test, I will at least be satisfied that I legitimately have GD and go along with whatever they tell me to do.

So happy its Friday. Still have to rush home and clean the house before our Bible study families come over, but otherwise I'm hoping its a lowkey weekend!

So, life has been crazy this week, just with school work, and DD's 3rd birthday was yesterday. We celebrated with family a couple of weekends ago and we're having some family friends over to grill tomorrow and have cake and ice cream. DD requested a 6 layer rainbow cake, so that is currently taking over my kitchen and I have homework due tonight and a house to clean, so I think it's going to be a late night!
