@mrscobee: I don't know if these tests are available in Germany. We have the option of doing the nuchal translucency screening test next time, I think we will do it

@busylizzy111: interesting that your doc recommended. And you are reminding me that I really need to find a dentist near home. With my first pregnancy I had terrible gum inflammation. My gums would bleed quite a bit. It was bad!! Ever since I got pregnant I have been trying to floss every day in advance of that issue.

@mrscobee: I am curious if my new office offers these tests. I will find out next week. I just turned 35 so I may qualify? I will let you know.

@busylizzy111: That is interesting about the dental stuff. I always was aware that it is good to take extra care to make sure you have good dental hygiene during pregnancy. However, I thought that just meant daily brushing, flossing, mouth wash, etc., which I do this anyway, so I wasn't going to make any special dental appointments. Interesting they told you to make two! Maybe I will consider making one since I am actually overdue for mine... The blood tests test for similar things to the NT test. I think the only difference is that the test can be done earlier, and I think these new blood tests are slightly more accurate and can tell gender. Not sure if they are offered in Germany...

@hellobeeboston: From what I understand and have been told, being 35 at time of birth actually does qualify you for this test, and there would be a good chance insurance would pick it up. I have heard that it is now offered to everyone who will be 35 or older at time of birth, but I know each doctor's office can be different... The tests are still newish, so I assume some doctors have started recommending it routinely, while others may be still deciding when / to whom to offer it.

I actually got my blood drawn this morning. Hoping for good results and that I hear something next week...

Does anyone feel like they are showing yet? I am 10 weeks today, and sometimes I think my belly has grown since 8 weeks, and sometimes I think not. I definitely feel like I look way bigger at night. But sometimes in the morning I wake up on my back, and my stomach seems pretty flat...

@mrscobee: I have an amazing bloat belly... It's so bad that my pants don't button. I'm only 7 weeks. Last time I was pregnant an acquaintance saw me at 10 weeks and it was obvious I her that I was pregnant. I was trying to hide it until 12 weeks. That didn't happen.

  6. mrscobee

    clementine / 903 posts

@Somebunny: Nice!! If I were wearing my normal pants, they would DEFINITELY not button (I should try them on just for fun). Luckily I have a few pairs of work pants in two sizes up, and I have been wearing those, which are pretty comfortable. I am finding that my leggings and work out pants are super uncomfortable even if they put the slightest bit of pressure on my abdomen, so I have been wearing hubby's sweats around the house (sexy).

That is absolutely crazy that someone guessed at 10 weeks last time!!! I hope people can't tell with me (especially at work)! I really want to wait until 12 to tell acquaintances!

@busylizzy111: My old OB was big on the dental stuff...said that oral health is extremely important in pregnant women. I remember them saying something about more bacteria forming while you're pregnant and keeping up with your dental hygiene and cleanings was super important.

I had another appointment today which went well. Measuring right on time at 6w, 6d with a heart beat of 141. Risk of miscarriage down to 20%. I still worry a ton about that 20% based on my history, but I do have a good feeling about this pregnancy.

I'm also on the hunt for a new OB. I'm not going back to my former practice because they kept telling me that my miscarriages were just bad luck and wouldn't refer me to a specialist. Even after my 4th, they still doubted that there was anything wrong and I just had a longer stretch of bad luck. Thank goodness I insisted, but it makes me lose all confidence in that practice. Hoping my new OB will give the MaterniT21 test. I will turn 35 in September just before babe is born, so they should!

All right, time to come out of hiding. I've been following the Sept boards for a few weeks, and feel pretty good about joining in now.

Hi, I'm Mrs. Oatmeal, and I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my second, due Sept. 17. My BFP was a big surprise, seeing as it was a long road to conceive baby #1.

    So, hi!

@sera_87: Hope all is well with you and baby!

I felt like crap today with nausea on and off most of the day, nothing sounded good, yet I was starving. Finally feeling better at 9pm after a bowl of plain oatmeal.

@mrscobee: you can put me down at 9/30. My due date may end up being a few days into October, but I'm confident I will deliver before then. Last time around I was a November mama, but my baby was born in October.

I am totally starting to pop this week! clothes that I packed for our trip that fit when we left are starting to be tight - DH commented that I'm starting to show while we were getting ready for dinner! Would really like to keep this hidden at work until after my first US, which likely won't happen until the first week in March! Bring on the flowy shirts and leggings

For those with nausea - what are you eating? I need some suggestions.

My nausea got really bad yesterday, I couldn't think of anything to eat other than crackers and chicken noodle soup. Any food I think I want, once I get it, I want to ralph. It's gotten really bad in the last 2 days... and I know I need to eat or it gets worse. Ugh!

I took a Zofran yesterday - anyone else taking? It made me SUPER sleepy all day though, so I don't think that's going to be a good resolution during the week at work since I'm already so tired.

@CarrieLouWho: I have heard anything ginger or lemon is supposed to help! Ginger hard candies help me with motion sickness as do my SeaBands. Pressure point wristbands. Good luck! I hope something helps you!

@2PeasinaPod: that is crazy about your OB! I would lose faith in them too! When do you see the new one?
@CarrieLouWho: not much nausea here but have found myself with major food aversions. I find that the ONLY thing I was eating for a while was fruit smoothies and cereal.@FreckledFox: yay for the small bump! Exciting!

@CarrieLouWho: I'm dealing with it a lot too. Nothing sounds good at all, yet if I don't eat then I feel worse. I eat plain oatmeal, scrambled egg sandwich, bagel with cream cheese, fries (like thick steak fries), grilled cheese and sometimes protein shakes and Greek yogurt. Most fruit and veggies are completely off the table right now. Hope to add those back. I just ordered some sea bands from Amazon and some preggie pop drops and one more nausea thing that I'm forgetting. I did take a zofran the other day too, but that was to get my through a previously scheduled dental cleaning. There's no way I could have made it without it.

@sera_87: I'm so sorry for your loss

@CarrieLouWho: I had such a bad day the other day that nothing helped. I find that if I don't eat something first thing in the morning, I'm done for the rest of the day. I actually start off with a toasted English Muffin with peanut butter. The peanut butter gives me enough protein to make it to a snack later in the morning. Otherwise, anything with ginger. I'm trying to watch my sugar since I had GD with my son. I'm pretty sure I'll have it again this pregnancy.

@FreckledFox: & @mrscobee: I'm still researching who to see, but I'm getting turned over the first week of March. So I need to get moving! By then, I'll be 10 weeks.

@ChelseaRose: I can't even imagine getting through a dental cleaning right now. I gag brushing my teeth myself!!

  36. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@2PeasinaPod: Luckily it was in the afternoon, which is somewhat better than the morning. I also took a zofran (from my last pregnancy) and there's no way I would have made it through otherwise. The hygienist didn't recline the seat the whole way either and I think that helped.

@mrscobee: I look bigger at night, too - thanks, bloat! You and I are due a day apart Today is a small day for me, but I have gotten a little bigger in my midsection. I don't look pregnant to the outside world and I know that my body is doing what it needs to do, but sometimes I don't feel so good about the changes in my body. I'm petite and I keep thinking that I just look pudgy / dumpy. I can be tough on myself, though.

@ehh5000: Nice - we are almost due date twins!! Glad to hear someone else is feeling bigger at night and smaller in the morning. I feel like yesterday and today have been smaller days for me too... But when I voiced that to my husband yesterday, he was like "no, you are looking pretty big" lol! He didn't mean it in a mean way - he was just trying to reassure me that he thought my belly was growing, which he did, but geez haha!! I am tall but thin, and I feel like I am not looking too fit right now either. I think we are all kind of in that awkward stage, and will be for a couple more months of just looking weird, and not really pregnant. It will be nice to have a real, cute looking obvious baby bump!!
