@MrsKoala: we've got a line on two that both bus to the elementary school and will have room in the infant room by November. Only one of them outright will accept cloth diapers. The other said they are willing to talk to me about cloth rather than an outright no. Tours for both are pending right now so we will see.

We were talking to DS about the baby in mommy's belly last night and he kept thinking there was a baby in his belly. It was so cute the way he was pulling his shirt up and looking at his belly. Eventually, he figured it out and then asked daddy to touch the baby. It was adorable.

@MrsKoala: That is adorable! We have not told our son yet and I am excited/nervous to when the time comes.

I am scheduled for my NT scan this afternoon as well as my NIPT/genetic counseling appointment. I am a bit more nervous than I thought I would be but also in disbelief that it's here already. I think I mentioned that I was basically disconnected the first 8 weeks of this pregnancy and even though it became more "real" after our first ultrasound, it's just so different and more "routine" this time around. I am excited about today's appointment but also so nervous since it's been 3 weeks since we saw anything...

I am feeling so much better! And we heard the baby this morning at our appointment! This is all starting to become real.

    Gear
    Bucket seat
    Double stroller
Either a second crib and mattress or a toddler bed. Not sure what to do about that. Lo1 will be 19 months when lo2 comes along.
    New woven wrap
Small size cloth diapers, we used a service for lo1 in the beginning.

I lost about 10 pounds my first trimester with lo1, gained about 20 pounds total. It was OK. But I wish I'd gained a little more. Is that weird?

  7. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@Periwinkle: I'll be thinking of you today and hoping it goes well. I can totally understand the disconnection. I've felt similarly. In many ways, it still doesn't feel completely real? Whereas my last pregnancy, I felt like baby was all i ever thought about or cared about. The difference is strange. I still haven't told people yet. My husband called everyone he knew after our NT scan but I just called my grandparents and that's it.

@Periwinkle: good luck today! I know what you mean about the disconnect. You can never have your first pregnancy again.

@maddyz: Glad you are feeling better and yay for the heartbeat! I didn't have the same issue with low weight gain but my first was iugr so I was always worried about how small my belly was. I ate so much at the end to see if it would help him grow but it just made me fat

Attempting to wear my new jeans today and they are seriously going to get me arrested for indecent exposure. They keep slipping down and taking my underwear with them! Back to my too tight regular jeans this afternoon!

@MrsKoala: @skipra: Thank you so much, ladies!

My appointment went very well yesterday! Ultrasound was great and baby (eeeeeek!) is growing and looked good, at least to us. Heart beat was around 159 and it's just amazing to me the difference between 8 weeks and now in terms of visible development. We got quite a good look during the NT scan and are anxious to get our results back soon.

We met with the genetic counselor which was sort of a whirlwind and walked away with more questions than we came in with, unfortunately. We did not love her personal style and thought she was somewhat abrasive and trying to get us in and out as quickly as possible. She also seemed to be suggesting CVS or amnio more than I thought she would, but I understand that that's possibly to protect her and make it clear that we will not learn about every abnormality through the blood test. At this point, we will wait until the results from our NIPT (we did the InformaSeq test) come back and then, if there is anything about which to be concerned, give it some more thought then. Although this is not super important in the grand scheme of things, I was not happy with the way the counselor rushed us and felt like she was performing a monologue and seemed to be annoyed when we interjected with questions.

    So, now we just wait...

    How is everyone doing/feeling today?

@Periwinkle: I'm glad your had a good appointment! I hated meeting with the genetic counselor last time. She made me feel like an unfit parent for not doing additional testing (H had bilateral corneal plexus cysts and an echogenic foci on her heart). As for me, I'm doing okay. I'm really, really hungry and have really only had carbs, so I need some protein STAT.

@MrsKoala: That is so sweet! My son seemed really confused about the baby in my belly at first...he kept asking what time it was going to come out and he thought one of his stuffed animals was pregnant, too. Now he gives my belly hugs and kisses and says "I am being so sweet to the baby". It makes me want to cry!

@Periwinkle: Glad the appointment went well. Good that you are just going to wait and do what you feel is right. I am sure you are right, they just have to cover themselves, but you have to do what makes you comfortable.

I almost feel like a normal human again. I still get super-tired by the end of the day (I didn't even stay up to watch House of Cards last night!), but I can eat most of my favorite foods again instead of just grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese and popsicles.

I weighed myself this morning, too and I am about 12 pounds over pre-pregnancy. I gained pretty much a pound a week throughout my pregnancy last time so I am almost falling in line with that again this time it seems like.

@tlcbaby: aww we can add a heartbeat stuffed animal to the package for $30 I think. Im not sure if we will or not, but the package includes a DVD, so I'm pretty pumped about that! Our family is really far away so we can share it with them via dvd!

Hey Ladies!! Just checking in with an update. 12 Weeks 1 Day as of today. EDD 9/22. Scan looked perfect yesterday.

We are working on setting up a play room and big boy bedroom for DS1. I want that all set up before we officially tell him about lo2 so he doesn't fee kicked out of his room (nursery). So far so good, should be done with that this weekend. Will find out gender at 15 weeks at the elective place and probably tell him then. So exciting!!

Feeling a little better but not 100% over the pukey feeling yet. It comes and goes instead of all day every day so I guess that's an improvement.

Overall doing great! Starting to feel more real.

@Periwinkle: Glad the u/s went well but sorry to hear about the visit with the genetics counselor. I don't have experience with them but it sounds awfully alarmist for no reason! Was the NT measurement high?
@Applesandbananas: Wow you'll find out so soon!! You must be getting anxious!
@FLnative12: Glad you had a great scan and are starting to feel better! Good luck moving LO into his new room!

I am feeling so exhausted today. We had a really busy morning and LO2 has been either sick or cutting teeth for the past 3-4 weeks and not sleeping so I'm just done. DH has been driving me crazy lately too - he has been busy with work but still trying to get home before bedtime and rather than playing or interacting with the boys he just sits on his phone. Like last night LO1 kept trying to talk to him and DH was 100% ignoring him. LO1 has even said several times, that he, LO2 and I live in our house and DH lives at work. It makes me so sad and I think he doesn't realize that him working more means that my job is harder too. He will not help with dishes (like rinsing and putting in the dishwasher or even in the sink) or anything and I'll get up in the morning and there are dishes all over the place and PB and jelly jars just sitting out, open on the counter. Ugh it is like I have 3 kids already! Sorry for the vent! I just needed to get it off my chest.

  19. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@skipra: hugs. My DH hasn't been super helpful either. It's so frustrating and not much helps. We both WOH FT and I do pick up and drop off and the grocery shopping and most of the child care (prepping meals, playing, bathing, bedtime). He suggested a third LO recently and I just and walked away. I'm having a RCS and wanted a tubal ligation during but he strongly opposes. This pregnancy has been so hard and LO has been so challenging and I'm just so tired. Occasionally I have success with "I'm going to do X, you need to do Y while I'm doing X." Or another variation: "X and Y need to be done right now, what do you want to do?" And he will 65% of the time step up.

    Hugs. And commiseration.

@Periwinkle: So glad it went well! I'm so sorry the genetics counselor was abrasive. I don't get how people get these positions without having any ability to relate to patients and their emotions. Some level of "bedside manner" is important! Hope you get your NIPT results quickly and get some reassurance that all is well.

@tlcbaby: Turns out he still thinks the baby is in his belly. Everytime we talk about it now, he's lifting his shirt up and looking for it. I guess he'll figure it out eventually. I love that your son is giving your belly hugs and kisses now. That is too sweet!

    @Applesandbananas: So exciting!

@FLnative12: Hello! Glad all is going well! I'm so amazed at how quickly they look like real babies! I love the feeling that things are getting more real!

@skipra: I'm sorry your DH hasn't been helpful. That sucks.

  22. MrsKoala

As for me, I'm still feeling like garbage. I started taking Zofran instead of Diclegis and that has helped but the gross feeling is just always there. Sigh. I feel like a broken record complaining about it. However, I did have some really great news. I won a grant to go to Japan in June for professional development for work. I'm really excited about this opportunity but a bit apprehensive about being 27-29 weeks pregnant and traveling that far.

  23. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@MrsKoala: H thinks the baby is in her belly too. It's her belly button. I told her that the baby was in my belly and she said, "NO Mommy. The baby is in my belly." Okay then, kid.

  24. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

    @avivoca: aww!

We haven't really talked to LO about it that much, we're going to bring him to our gender scan though!

@MrsKoala: I traveled to eastern Europe for two weeks for work when I was almost that far along last time and it was actually great. I got lots of extra attention on the plane and everyone was super nice to me. The actual travel was the hardest part. My flight home had a really long layover in Frankfurt and that really wiped me out.

I think I am going to ween LO1. He's 12.5 months. I'll do it slowly. We nurse twice a day and that's it. The other night after we nursed for ages at bedtime he cried and asked for more. I gave him a small milk bottle and he fell right to sleep. It broke my heart, but I also know he will be ok. I think the stomach bug really dented my supply. I am feeling really bitter sweet about it. I always thought I would nurse until two.

@Applesandbananas: Oh wow, that sounds tough! I really can't complain, even though I do. I SAH so it's really my job to do most of the stuff around the house. Just the damn peanut butter has been driving me up the wall lately! How difficult is it to put the lid back on?!?!
@MrsKoala: OMG that's awesome that you're going to Japan! Congrats on winning the grant! I'm sure you'll be feeling better by then but too bad you can't enjoy the sushi!
@avivoca: @MrsKoala: That is so cute the LO's think the baby is in their bellies! My older LO understands it's in my belly and he is so funny. He really got it once he saw my latest u/s pics so when I picked him up from school the next day, he said, "Mom you left the new baby at home!!!" all horrified that I forgot him. And this morning LO2 was climbing all over me and LO1 yelled at him to get off the baby. It's kind of funny when they understand.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend! Any good plans? DH is working tomorrow and I have to do my dad's taxes on Sunday so we have lots of fun waiting for us

@maddyz: I'm pretty sure we're ready to wean too. The combination of the Unisom and stomach bug left me with nothing and it's so uncomfortable now. It is a sad transition and will probably be harder for us than for them! Hang in there!
ETA: I was hoping to make it to 2 as well and we are just 2 months away which makes me feel really sad to give it up so close. But I really think it's time.

Ordered our stroller today!! I'd been watching for a deal on a stroller that has the bench seat option and the board option for my toddler, with a front seat that the infant seat can also snap into and I found an Amazon open box today for $40 off retail, sold!!

I've also been cleaning out the nursery, DS is slowly moving into his new room, although he sleeps with us lol so really his toys are moving I should say

  30. maddyz

    persimmon / 1270 posts

@Applesandbananas: which stroller did you get? I am dreading the double stroller but think that's where we are headed. We basically live out of our stroller.

  31. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@maddyz: this one! My older LO will be 3.5 when baby arrives and he's never liked the stroller, so I thought our best bet would be the board or bench seat for him.

  34. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Applesandbananas: lol love that you are so gung ho! Is that like a rock n play?

We may need a triple stroller because LO1 still loves going for long walks. I think we'll just wait til the following spring and just babywear til then. Could one kid sit on that bench seat and another stand or is it one or the other? The only on-line stroller I've seen with the two seats plus board is super expensive!

  35. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@skipra: it's just like a rock n play, I think the brand is ingenico or something like that. I liked that it had the lights on it! The rock n plays come with music, which is so cool, but my son is almost profoundly deaf and this baby has a 50/50 shot of having hearing loss to some degree, so the lights and vibration are nice features for us!

ETA - I think if you had a kiddo on the bench seat, their feet would be on the board, it'd probably be super tight to put three kids on that one for a long stretch, but if LO1 just hopped on for a few minutes, it might be ok? The bench has a 50lb weight limit, but I'm not sure about the board. I'll let you know once it arrives! I haven't seen this exact model in person.

  36. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Applesandbananas: thanks for the info! My guys are super skinny so we wouldn't have to worry about the weight limit until high school probably. Combined they might weigh 50 lbs, just barely. I didn't realize your lo has hearing loss. DH has a lot of deafness in his family so it's always something we worry about too. That's a good idea to have the lights and vibration. We have a rnp and it vibrates but no music. Oh well.

@skipra: does anyone in his family have CIs? Or hearing aids?

  38. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Applesandbananas: Both of DH's grandparents on one side were born completely deaf. His brother is deaf in one ear and has some or most of his hearing in the other. He has hearing aids.
Eta his dad also has hearing aids but may be either age or injury related, I'm not too sure.

@Applesandbananas: does your LO have a CI? I only know my sister's nieces are twins and both have them. I didn't even realize when I met them.

  40. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@skipra: not yet, but likely very soon (part of my rush to get the nursery squared away) we've started the process, which is pretty lengthy. He is currently aided with very high powered devices, but it's evident it won't be enough long term so we're leaning towards CIs.
