@Periwinkle: I was thinking books too. You could also do the Aden + Anais swaddle sets. So many adorable prints and they are so versatile.

@Periwinkle: I agree with everyone else. Books that your child loves are the best gifts. Those have been my favorite gifts for my son and I always remember who bought him what book. It feels extra special when I read books to him that his aunts/uncles and grandparents bought him.

LO2 has become obsessed with my belly. He just wants to touch it all the time. He also said yesterday "take it off!" Haha. He says baby sister all the time and LO1 insists it's his baby brother. I guess one of them will get what they want.

How are your LOs acting now that the bump is getting bigger? Any sex preferences (especially if you don't know yet)?

  11. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@skipra: H calls my belly her "brother sister" because we don't know yet. She's getting clingier, I think she knows that things are going to change very soon. I can't wait to find out! I won't post on FB or IG until we tell her first and I don't know how we are going to do that. She likes balloons, so maybe I will get her a blue or pink balloon before getting her from daycare.

@skipra: I don't think he notices it yet! He still thinks the baby is in his belly. Hahahaha. No preference for brother or sister. We ask him and he says both back. He really doesn't get it!

@skipra: LO is very interested in my stomach. He is very sweet most days and wants to give his baby lots of hugs and kisses. I love it and hope that he's this interested when baby arrives in September!

    @Christy412: YAY!

LO is interested in my tummy but has no idea why, at 14 months he is still young to put it all together. But he checks out my tummy all the time and could care less about DH's. We talk about babies, and having a baby, but i dont think it's really sinking in. I hope as he gets a little older we will be able to do more explaining before the baby comes.

@Christy412: Congrats!!! So many September boys!

@maddyz: My oldest was about the same age as yours when I was pregnant with my second. He did not get it. At all. Like when he came to the hospital to meet LO2 for the first time he just kept pointing at him and looking at us like, WTF. It's really a great age gap and despite the lack of true understanding now, he will love it as they grow up together.

I'm 22 weeks today and just feeling overwhelmed with gratitude about how good I feel and the health of this pregnancy. I had a great workout at the gym this morning and it's Friday! Just feeling very joyful.

@Christy412: congratulations on your son! I love having a boy first.

What are you all up to this Mother's Day Weekend? We are on our babymoon in Chicago and it has been so much fun. If you get the chance to get away before baby, I highly recommend it, especially if you are expecting baby #2 or #3! It's so nice to reconnect with your SO and get some time off!

@skipra: she knows it's a boy but she doesn't have much interest in my bump. I'm constantly protecting it cause she loves to climb all over me or jump on me.

@MrsKoala: same ole family plans. I've been asking for a Carvel ice cream cake though.

    @MrsKoala: have a great babymoon!

We are hosting mother's day brunch tomorrow and LO2's bday party. MIL and FIL arrived today and MIL just commented to me, "are you getting stuff done?" As I was running around crazy and she, FIL, and DH just sat around. Finally a little after 5 she started playing with the kids so DH could help me get dinner for everyone. Well, at least that was helpful? Trump somehow came up during dinner and at least now I can say she is not a Trump supporter

Happy mother's day to all of you! Hope you are pampered silly tomorrow!

We celebrated Mother's Day yesterday by going to my favorite BBQ restaurant for dinner! It was very nice and H was so well behaved. The day started off kind of terribly because of T's attitude after I told him something (basically, I wasn't comfortable with him taking so much out of savings so he could get his bike quicker), but after many (many) tears on my part, he seemed to snap out of his funk. Then we went to the zoo. Today we are going to church as a family (T never goes).

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day!

@MrsKoala: Enjoy your babymoom and share all the details when you get back!

@tlcbaby: I'm so sorry this one has been kinda rough. But we're more than halfway now!

I had a minor body image freakout on Saturday while trying on some online maternity clothes purchases. They really are the worst. It's so tough finding professional maternity clothes. And while I'm so happy, it's weird to watch your body change. But I ate some Teddy Grahams and laid in bed and felt better.

One beef I have is that every recommendation for maternity clothes is all like - "Get some leggings, they're so great! And comfy!" Well, I live in south Louisiana and it's hot as s*** already so leggings sound repulsive. Also I work 5 days a week in a formal office setting so I'd get literally no use out of them. On the weekends I'm really casual, but my shorts/dresses still fit for now so what I need are work clothes. I finally found a black pencil skirt on consignment at swap.com. I'd really like to find some decent white jeans for casual Friday but that feels like a fool's errand. Ok, I'll stop now.

Babymoon report: We accomplished a lot! We did the typical touristy things like going up to the top of the Sears Tower, eating deep dish pizza, taking a sunset cruise on Lake Michigan, visiting the Bean in Millennium Park, and checking out the Art Institute. We also went to two baseball games in 24 hours and ate at the yummiest restaurants including a really nice steak place (we never go out to nice dinners). Overall, it was just so much fun to be together and spend some quality time by ourselves.

@mrsjd: Have you tried J Crew for the white jeans? I have a pair from them that I like. They are a bit low (argh) but otherwise, they fit beautifully! I'm sorry that you are finding maternity wear frustrating. I second that. I can't find anything new that I like. All of my favorite maternity stuff is from three years ago and I wish I had bought more at that time because everything then seems much cuter than what's out there now. My major problem though is that I was pregnant in the winter last time so most of my stuff won't work. I'm hoping that ASOS will have some nicer things for the summer come out soon so that I'll have more to wear to work in June/July/August. I feel your pain.

  31. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@mrsjd: I think work maternity clothes are the worst! Luckily I don't work now but with my first (also a Sept baby) I think I bought 2 pairs of pants that I kept switching between and then just skirts and maxi dresses. I have no clue where to find maternity clothes. I want a long sleeve rash guard for the summer but I have no idea where to find one. I found a short sleeved one at Old Navy and that's it.
What places have you checked out? Have you looked at all at baby consignment shops or even Goodwill or Craigslist? Just thinking as a last resort!
@MrsKoala: Sounds like a great trip! I am jealous because we definitely won't get a babymoon or even any sort of vacation with the kids anytime soon.

@mrsjd: I popping in from the October boards to say hi and that I'm in Louisiana too! With my last pregnancy with dd, I wore a lot of dresses, although I wasn't due to December. Most were from a friend and technically not maternity but they were stretchy enough that they worked.

@mrsjd: I am also struggling with clothing. Most my stuff from last time wont work (problem with a feb LO1, I have SO MANY sweaters). I currently have two pars of pants, that was ok the first time around, but now I am always covered in food by the end of the day thanks to my little helper.

I've been feeling so frumpy... I want to buy new cloths. But I think i'll settle for a nice par of sandals for the summer.

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@mrsjd: Thanks--I am having way more good days now, but on the bad days I get a little down on myself.

I am pretty happy with most of my maternity clothes, but I do wish I had more dresses I like for the summer. I have one cute one from ON and a few non-maternity pieces that will work, but I'd like a few more for when it is hot.

And my favorite pair of running shorts ripped in the washer yesterday and I was basically planning on living in them this summer so now I don't know what to do!

@MrsKoala: Fun! I love Chicago. I hope you saw the Cubs and not the Sox.

Our babymoon/anniversary/last hurrah trip is next month...we are going to Italy, which is something we've been talking about forever. I can't wait...the only part I'm not looking forward to is the super-long flight. I actually really like flying because I can just relax and read or watch a movie, but I hope I'm comfortable!

  36. MrsKoala

@tlcbaby: We saw both! Our goal is to hit every ball park in the US at some point. Wrigley was by far the better experience, though.

P.S. Am I the only one that's still nauseous (like throwing up still, on Zofran nauseous)? I hope so but also, a bit sad to still feel so sick this late in the game.

  38. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@MrsKoala: that sucks you're still throwing up! I still get nauseous in the evenings but haven't actually thrown up in a while. I do still need the B6 and Unisom though because I am a wreck without it. I hope you're not an unlucky one throwing up right up to delivery.

  39. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@MrsKoala: That is awesome! I heard Wrigley was under a lot of construction right now. I didn't know you were still getting sick. I don't get nauseous anymore, just a lot of burping/discomfort. What does your OB say...that there isn't much else you can do?

  40. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@tlcbaby: A little bit of construction on one side but it didn't mess with the experience at all. It was barely noticeable. Yep, still sick. The OB said take more Zofran if you need to so instead of 1 a day, I take 2. But that's it. I got the "some people get sick all pregnancy", which I don't want to hear because I know what it feels like to feel good in pregnancy and I desperately want that again.
