Hope everyone is having a fun long weekend! I am so shaken after hearing what is going on with winniebee and my friend's younger sister just passed away that I don't know - feeling like a combination of so grateful and waiting for the other shoe to drop.
On a more pregnancy related note, what is everyone's practice doing for glucose testing? I was told 28 weeks and then at my appointment yesterday they said I had to come in at 26 weeks for it. They said they just changed how they do it. Have standards for the test changed recently?

@skipra: it's so awful. I can't even contemplate it. I feel sick just thinking about what they are going through.
To answer your question re: glucose, they want me to do it at 26 weeks as well. I think I did it at 28 last time. I guess it might have changed?

@skipra: @MrsKoala: I've been crying about it all weekend. I am hugging my belly extra and just appreciating the miracle I've been giving. My heart is broken for her.
I'm scheduled for the glucose test at 27 weeks.

@skipra: @MrsKoala: @mrsjd: It's absolutely horrific. I am so shocked and saddened for them.
My practice does it at 28 weeks, but I elected to have mine done early at 20 weeks. I'm about a week into the diet and besides being hungry a lot, I feel better. It's very different this time because I'm not just cooking for myself and A, I have to balance it with foods that H will eat.

@skipra: it is terrible and breaks my heart. I can't even imagine...
I have my glucose test this week at 24 weeks, seems a bit early to me but that's what they scheduled. It's hard to believe we're at this point already.
How is the name hunt going for others? We have hardly discussed it, it's going to take a long time!

@skipra: I was really rooting for her and the news is just heartbreaking.
I did my glucose test yesterday at 27 weeks. My midwives said to go anytime after 25 weeks and before my next appointment. They didn't give me the Orange drink. They mixed up some concentrated clear concoction. It was super gross. I prefer the flat orange soda one.

@Legowife: we decided on one after much debate! We aren't telling anyone until her birth though.

I had the worst experience I've had at my practice when I went in for my 24 week appt. last week. My midwife was out of the office for family stuff so they asked if I wanted to see one of the doctors. I love both of the doctors I've worked with before so I said yes, but It ended up being a female doctor I hadn't met before.
When she asked me about the GD test, I told her I had already talked with my midwife and I was just gonna test my blood sugar for two weeks (the exact thing they would have me do if I failed the one hour test). She immediately went on the defensive and basically tried to bully me into taking the test without any real explanation as to why I couldn't do it this way. I told her I would happily take the test if my blood sugars weren't totally normal, but she really tried to scare me into it. It was just really unpleasant, mostly because of the way she approached it.
It was the shortest appt. I've had because she would barely talk with us after that. We didn't even get to enjoy hearing the heartbeat. It just sucked.
Other than that, I am actually feeling more and more like myself every day! I am actually enjoying being pregnant finally.
We are taking our son camping with his cousins for the long weekend. It'll be his first time so I am curious to see how he does.
I hope everyone else has a fun weekend!!

@tlcbaby: She must be new. I'm sorry that happened. Did you tell anybody else at the practice? Her behavior is not right at all.
I really hope she is not the on-call OB when we give birth! Of she's going to be that way over the GD test, I imagine that she would also be one of those doctors that insists you labor her way instead of the best way for you.

So I guess it sounds like overall they are doing the test a little earlier. Interesting. I was just planning on it at my 28 week appt so scheduled it first thing on a Friday because that's generally the only day traffic is good in the morning. Now I have to go anytime M-Th but that week is already jam packed with other stuff. But not a big deal overall so I should not complain!
@katsupgirl: That sounds disgusting. They have a little area in the office where they draw blood and stuff and I saw the orange drink last time so hoping they didn't change that too!
@avivoca: Must be a pain to stay on GD diet while cooking for your LO. I feel like I am gaining so much because both my kids are skinny so I have to add extra fat and calories to everything. I don't know how it would work to cook totally separate meals all the time. At least you are feeling better!
@tlcbaby: yikes! I seriously hope the midwife is available when you deliver! I don't see what the problem is. It sounds like your way is more work for you and overall more conclusive.
@Legowife: We discussed names a little maybe a month ago. We both like Alexander and it works with our other LO names but it and Alex are quite a mouthful with our last name. Plus LO1's middle name also starts with Al too and I'm not sure if that's weird or not? We'll decide when he or she arrives!

@avivoca: She is new. At my next appt. I am going to talk to my midwife about it. I had the same thought--I hope I don't have to see her when I give birth!
@skipra: I think sometimes you have to see the baby before you can decide for sure on a name!
nectarine / 2280 posts
@tlcbaby: what a terrible first impression! I'd make sure she was on my banned from my birth list.
@Legowife: the naming wasn't bad since we had a boy and girl name picked last time. We at just going with the boy name. I don't know what I'd do if this one was a girl. Then I'd be in trouble.

Guess who just scored a double BOB for Zero Dollars? #thisgirl. A woman in my running group is looking to trader her duallie for a single so we are going to switch!
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@tlcbaby: What a horrible experience. I can't believe she just shut down like that. You had a plan with another person in the practice and who is she to say that that is not acceptable? How frustrating!
@Legowife: We've got a girls name but not a boy name. I bet anything this kid will be a boy. Argh. We have like 10 boys names that we like and we each have a different favorite and I don't see how we are going to figure it out. Luckily, we still have 15 weeks (hopefully) to do so.

@avivoca: Way to go!
While we're on the topic of strollers, does anyone have a recommendation for a lightweight, urban-friendly stroller that would be good on uneven sidewalks? I also want something easy to fold/unfold and small enough to fit into shops/restaurants. Our city has terrible sidewalks and I know that a BOB would actually be great for that, but I would like to have something easier to pack and lift.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mrsjd: Anything will all-terrain tires would be great, but that gets heavy really fast. I've heard good things about the Bumbleride Flite, but I've never tested one. I don't do much walking unless it's in my neighborhood, at the park, or in a store, so our strollers just have to fit in our car and I don't fold them up on transit or anything.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@avivoca: that's awesome!
@mrsjd: We have a Britax B Ready and it's pretty good on the uneven sidewalks. Bonus is that you can turn it into a double and it folds very easily. Unfortunately it's not super lightweight and deceptively wide (but still fits through doorways). We've had ours for almost 3 years now and used both as a single and double and I have loved it. We are just outgrowing it now that the kids fight over the top seat and you can't add a Glider board with the second seat. Anyway, if you are thinking you might have a second in the not too distant future you might want to check it out.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@mrsjd: Britax B-Agile! You're tall, right? It's really great for tall people, only weighs 16 lbs total, is pretty good on all terrain (except maybe sand, I haven't tried it at a beach), and super easy to fold (my husband can do it and he sucks at all things mechanical). I highly highly recommend it. I've decided we're just going to get the double since I love it so much.
clementine / 777 posts
@MrsKoala: I'm 5'7" so tallish/average. My husband is about 5'11". So I'm not particularly worried about height. I'll check out the B-Agile! I've heard good things about it from others too and I want the Britax carseat so it would work easily. I think I'm going to go to a store this weekend and look at a few. The front runner for me right now is the City Mini GT but that is just based on reading reviews and watching videos. It looks insanely easy to fold and the tires are more durable than some. When I say the sidewalks are bad here, it's an understatement. And we living within two blocks of a ton of shops and restaurants so I know we'll use the stroller a TON. Plus, I like to walk. So it's an important purchase for me to like.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@mrsjd: A store test is the best thing! That's how we settled with the B-Agile. It was the easiest to fold and super easy to use in store. It's great to compare! Let us know what you end up deciding on!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@MrsKoala: I think that is what bothers me the most--they work for the same practice?!? They should at least be supportive, especially since she knows I am not one of her regular patients.
@avivoca: Congrats on the BOB! I saw the photo and it looks so nice! My sister is giving us her non-jogging double stroller, but it has the platform that A can stand on if he gets tired of walking, so it'll be nice.

@tlcbaby: Thanks! I'm with you about that doctor too. I really can't believe she acted like that. I hope you say something to your regular midwife about it.

I just realized it's June and we are having babies in 3 months. Man, time flies.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@MrsKoala:
I have three months to get my car seat, a big girl bed, and fix up the house.
I also have to make baby girl a quilt from scratch and finish my parent's quilt.
OMG.
ETA: I also have to buy a car!!!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@MrsKoala: Wait that's not possible! I was still calling myself 4 months and actually have less than that left. Oops!
Anyone have trouble remembering your due date? I keep saying the 19th bit it's the 16th. I'm guessing maybe that's my intuition of when baby will arrive.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@avivoca: omg I have to do all that too plus will be staying with my mom for 3 weeks in July/August sooo.... yikes!
clementine / 777 posts
@avivoca: @MrsKoala: I know it's nuts. I have 98 days (days until due date) to get a car seat, crib mattress, close on our new home, and completely move houses.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@skipra: @mrsjd: Luckily for me, I'm due at the very end of the month, so in reality, I have closer to four months left, but still. I do not want to be buying a car or making a trip to get my car seat at 36 weeks pregnant.

I have been so tired lately, lo1 is actually sleeping and so am I. But I am bone tired, like I have the flu but i an not sick. The kind of tired where my arms feel heavy. Getting off the floor or walking around the block feel like a lot.
It's so hard for me to tell if this is normal pregnant with a toddler kind of tired or something else is going on.
I feel asleep at 6:30 last night...
nectarine / 2280 posts
@maddyz: I'm feeling the same way about the tiredness. I get home and I'm practically falling asleep on myself before 7pm. The problem is when I do go to bed it takes forever to fall asleep. Can't win!
Other than that Baby boy is all sorts of moving! I need to get a video.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@maddyz: In this past week I had a couple days where I was just totally exhausted. Like normally I can go up and down our stairs all day, no issue, but I was seriously dragging every single time and totally out of breath going for our normal stroller walks. It seems better today so hoping it's just a phase for us both!
@katsupgirl: Crazy movement is so much fun! Mine is non stop too and I love it!
Is anyone else having issues with dairy? Milk seems to be making my digestive tract miserable these days. It's weird because I drank a lot of it with my other pregnancies.
