@lamariniere: Thanks It's for my grandma, she recently passed away. Yes I'm very excited to start the nursery, it will make things seem more real I think. Between taking care of LO and the new pup, I don't have time to think about baby! Did you get a double stroller? I'm debating on a sit and stand.... but I don't know if I should bother since Lo is very rarely in a stroller.

@Pirouette: I kind if had the same problem as you when shopping for maternity clothes with my 1st. Everything seemed huge and the only maternity item I bought was a pair of jeans. For the rest, I just sized up in regular clothes and they ended up working pretty well for the whole pregnancy. I did a lot of stretchy/knit dresses and no pants other than the jeans.

@artbee: we got a bugaboo buffalo that DS is already using (an upgrade from our beloved Maclaren), and we will add the roller board when DD arrives. DS will turn 3 just after DD is born, so I didn't feel the need for a double stroller. Even though DS is 2.5, we still use the stroller nearly every day since we don't have a car. He doesn't always want to sit in it, but he's just not ready to walk as far as I would like when doing errands, and there is no way we could go to the grocery store with him just walking and me schlepping all the bags.

@lamariniere: Wow yes in your situation I'd want a stroller for sure. We are in the burbs so LO hasn't had to go in a stroller in months.

@lamariniere: I think the hospital is very nice and I got a generally good feeling when we were there for our NT scan. I can't wait to take a tour, though. The only problem with the hospital is that the city has decided to do massive roadwork on the main route between there and where we live, and the alternate routes are kind of confusing! I was hoping it would be over by December, but unfortunately it looks like its only going to get worse by then. I'm going to have to make DH do a couple practice drives so I'm not trying to navigate him through unfamiliar streets during contractions!

@lamariniere: i'm glad i'm not the only one! i did buy 2 (non-maternity) fall dresses for work, and i think i may live in them and buy one or two more when i grow out of my work pants. my work pants are still wearable at the moment, but who knows how much longer!

@PurplePeony: ha, i have nightmares about the trip to the hospital too! we'll be taking a cab, and i just worry that the traffic will be bad (i just know she'll decide she's ready to come out during rush hour in the city!) sounds like for you a practice run and a phone with gps are in order

Wow, I can't believe some of you can still wear regular clothes -- I haven't been able to wear non-maternity pants/skirts for close to a month! Some of my casual clothes still work (tees, tanks, jersey skirts, yoga gear), but most of my regular work clothing is pretty fitted and is woven so it has no stretchiness whatsoever. I've been living in dresses, I have a few regular ones that have empire waists and I bought a couple maternity dresses. Not sure what I'll do when the weather turns cold, though.

I have been in maternity clothes for almost 3 months Fortunately I still had all my pants from DD since she was a year old when we found out about #3. But had to buy all new shirts, as I had gotten rid of mine already

  9. lamariniere

    pineapple / 12566 posts

@PurplePeony: oh yikes! I think I would start driving that route regularly as you get close to the date so that you know which streets are definitely open. As for the clothes, you may not be cold in the winter! DS was born 12/29 and by the time December arrived, it was cold, but not freezing. But with all the extra blood/baby weight, I really did not get too cold. My coat at the time was a wool trench and I just belted it around the bump and it worked right up until the day we went to the hospital.

@Pirouette: you could always have the subway as a back-up plan ;-). We almost had to take the subway! Remember the blizzard in 2010, right after Christmas? In our neighborhood the streets were not plowed and we waited 45 minutes for a car service, which never showed, so we left to catch the train. Luckily, we managed to flag down a car just a block from our building and made it to the hospital with no incidents (My water broke at home but I hadn't started having contractions yet, so the car ride was ok).

  10. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@PurplePeony: i had to buy some new clothes (like work skirts, because a lot of the ones i had are tight fitting and zip above the belly button!), but i found that because i'm so petite, i did better with buying my same size in non-petite sizing rather than maternity. also, i'm just now starting to transition from "she looks like she put on a few pounds" to "is that a baby bump?!" so my clothes have fit fine through the fat stage

@lamariniere: YES, that was terrible! it was just completely unanticipated and no one was prepared. wow, that sounds so terrible, but i'm glad it all worked out! I could feasibly take the subway, and if i go into labor at work, the subway will be easy, but from my apartment, i'd have to walk about 10 minutes to the subway and then transfer trains to get there...i guess it depends how bad early labor is, but that doesn't sound so fun

Hi everybody! How are you all doing? Give us an update!

I've been stalking the boards but haven't posted in ages. My mom moved in with us this summer, and we're in the process of getting her basement apartment ready, so life's been a little crazy!

On the baby front, I had a shower over Labor Day weekend. DH's family is in Ohio, and we're in CT, and my husband is saving all of his vacation time for baby, so we had it really early. So nice to celebrate with family and friends! (And get cute baby stuff!) Which of course we don't have room for now, because the nursery is still filled with crap waiting to go in the basement. Doing a few small crafty nursery projects here and there as I can. What is everyone else thinking of for the nursery? Ours is being inspired by one of my favorite paintings in the museum I work at, Marc Chagall's Autumn in the Village, which seems to really confuse people.

Finally, tonight was our first childbirth class. It feels crazy to be doing it already, but the next session doesn't end before our due date. I've been avoiding reading any of my childbirth books, but now that I'm in the third trimester, I guess I'd better start!

Looking forward to hearing your updates - we should all have two weeks worth of news at least!

I've been so MIA over the summer! I thought my first summer "off" of teaching would be relaxing and luxurious... but nope. Still busy each day.

    1) How far along are you now?
    25 weeks!

    2) How are you feeling? any weird symptoms? cravings?
I'm feeling great, but my feet are swelling so easily now! I've been monitoring blood pressure, and there isn't anything alarming there, but WOW! I had an emotional break down the other night when I saw my cankles. Just been craving fruit, fruit, and more fruit!

    3) Do you know the sex?
    Yes! Baby Boy

    4) Have you picked out a name?
Hudson. Middle name will be a family name, and we're still trying to figure that one out.

    5) Do you know where you are giving birth?
Yup - it's about 45 minutes away from home, but it's a great hospital.

    6) Have you made any baby purchases yet?
Basics like the crib, dresser/changing table, and glider. My dad bought us a stroller, and my mom has been picking up onesies every time she goes shopping. Now that we finally know we're having a boy, I'm itching to get some clothes for him!

    7) What are you most excited about in the next few weeks?
I have a college friend visiting in a few weeks, and I get to celebrate one of my friend's baby showers this weekend! And we'll be working on getting the nursery ready.

  13. Pirouette

@jaypegs: wow, your nursery sounds so cool! do you have any inspiration pics? our daughter will be DH's office mate for the first year, and we're renting, so we're not doing much of a theme, other than peter rabbit sheets also, can't believe you already had your shower and started childbirth classes! i'm feeling very behind!

@amreis: I love the name Hudson! I'm sorry your feet are swelling already...i'm so dreading that! wow, you have made so many purchases for baby already!

As for me, I had the one hour glucose test on Tuesday, and am literally staring at my cell phone waiting for the doc to call and tell me I failed. I have serious anxiety about the 3-hour test and am so scared I'll have to take it. not fun. on a happier note, made my very first purchases for baby - i couldn't resist a 50% off carters sale and may have bought quite a few sleepers and onesies! I about died when they came in the mail, because they are SO TINY!!! so cute!!

DH and i did a little getaway last weekend to a spa and i had my first ever prenatal massage, which was awesome! i didn't realize how much tension i'd been carrying, and it persuaded me to change over my heavy leather purse for a fabric tote, especially while i'm carrying around some extra weight I've been having some middle back pain, which has been more annoying than anything else.

Hope everyone else is doing well - some of you have started the third tri by now, OMG!!!

@jaypegs: Ok, I googled the painting and I love the colors! I'm sure that will translate into a beautiful nursery.

@Pirouette: Ahhhh I'm so jealous that you can still wear regular clothes!

@PurplePeony: I bought a few dresses, too, and I think I'm going to invest in some maternity tights or maybe leggings (although I'm not a fan) to get me through the colder days.

I swear I've been wearing maternity since week 14. Maxi dresses have been my savior so far. My chest has grown so much that none of my pre-preg shirts fit, and I'm wearing tank tops under everything just to keep it from getting obscene... haha.

We weren;t planning on having a theme for the nursery, but one is kind of evolving. About 20 years ago my grandpa made a wooden sailboat for a church program I was in. It's about 2 ft long and a foot and a half tall. It's big! I've always loved it, and he gave it to me right before I found out I was pregnant. I've also found an adorable world map and a few quotes about sailing, so we have an unofficial "Sail around the World" theme going on.

@Pirouette: FX for good news on your glucose test! I'm dreading it, too. That massage sounds glorious!! What a nice getaway for you and DH.

@amreis: awww i love the sail around the world theme! so cute! i think i'm just about ready for maternity pants - i can still button my jeans but the button digs in a little when i sit...time to transition! i'm excited about them, i hope they are as comfortable as everyone says! i'm still wearing skirts at work, so i'll have to try on my pre-preg pants and see how they are doing these days...

Hi everyone, and I'm glad it sounds like you're all doing well!

@Pirouette: hope your glucose results come back just fine. Mine is in early October and I'm already feeling like I *should* work on improving my diet...it's pretty healthy overall but I definitely eat more breads/bagels/pastries than I probably should. I know GD just depends on hormones and there's not much you can do to prevent it, but it's still anxiety-inducing. It sounds like things are otherwise good for you, though -- yay for cute baby clothes and spa getaways!

@amreis: Your nursery theme sounds really cute! I hear you on having to wear tank tops under everything, I didn't realize how many v-necks I had until every single top I put on was like "whoa nellie!" Have you found any good maternity tights yet? The thick Spanx ones seem to get good reviews but the ones that are more like regular pantyhose apparently fall apart immediately. I have to figure out what other brands are out there, but have been putting it off.

@jaypegs: Good for you for starting your childbirth classes already. We haven't even signed up yet and at my last checkup, my MW was not. impressed. Guess we need to get on that ASAP... Your nursery also sounds adorable, and how nice that you have a real connection to it.

Just plugging along here, I'm starting to feel huge. I'm only 5'2" and even though I have a proportionate-to-slightly long torso, there's still not much space for the baby in there. So it's definitely started to go out and out! My hubby laughs at me all the time because he says I look normal from behind and way pregnant from the front/side.

Our nursery is coming together, the only big thing we still need is the crib mattress. Everything else is smaller stuff like changing pad, sheets, more clothes and supplies, etc. I think I'm having a shower at the end of October so I don't want to get too much before then. I did paint a tree mural on the wall where the crib is, and I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out, but aside from that we don't have much of a theme. Otherwise, I'm just trying to figure out what else we need to do and when!

@PurplePeony: I haven't done much research yet. It's been warm here in MI, so tights have been the last thing on my mind! I was going to ask some of my friends with LOs and see if they had any luck. I'll keep you posted

I love that you painted a tree in the nursery! You must be talented!

Happy to see updates from our quiet group! I'm 26 weeks today!

I've been feeling pretty good most of the time, but we had some minor drama last week. My 2.5 yo DS broke his leg at school, so he's in a cast from toes to mid-thigh. He can walk a bit with a special shoe on his cast, but I still have to carry him up and down stairs, into the stroller, on to the potty, etc. it's really hard since he is a heavy kid and my belly is in the way. He's in the cast for another 1.5 weeks and I can't wait until its over! He can only go to school half days right now and he had just started full day the day before he broke his leg, so I've had to put some things on hold.

It's exciting to hear about room decor. DD will eventually share a room with DS, but since we rent, his room isn't really decorated. Just a few pictures hanging up. We kind of have a stars/space theme, but it's fairly gender neutral, so it will work for both kids.

    pomegranate / 3113 posts

@amreis: I don't know how talented I am, I actually blew up a tree I found online and traced some of it onto the wall, then freehanded the top part because tracing was getting too annoying. I got regular wall paints mixed at Lowes in the sample sizes so I didn't have to worry about mixing colors myself from craft store paints, haha.

@lamariniere: Oh no! So sorry to hear about DS's leg. I can only imagine how tough that must be for you. FX for quick healing for him!

@lamariniere: aww your poor DS!! good thing you only have a week and a half left of the cast. that must be so hard with a belly!

    1) How far along are you now?
    24+4

    2) How are you feeling? any weird symptoms? cravings?
Feeling pretty good, but yesterday knocked me out! After several days of fall-like weather, our highs hit the high 90s. DH came home yesterday to find DD on the iPad and me passed out on the bed next to her. Great parenting! (not)

    3) Do you know the sex?
Kind of...the u/s tech is pretty sure it's a girl but not positive bc she was jumping around so much in there. It's kind of cool bc we sort of know but it'll still be a surprise come December.

    4) Have you picked out a name?
Yes but DH isn't sold on it.

    5) Do you know where you are giving birth?
Yes, the hospital where I had DD and conceived DC2 (thru IUI).

    6) Have you made any baby purchases yet?
    - Twin bed for DD so we could put away the crib for a while before setting it up for DC2.
    - New toddler seat for our Vista

    7) What are you most excited about in the next few weeks?
Fall stuff - apple picking, breaking our my new (to me) maternity jackets.
Starting to plan DD's bday party. She turns 3 in Feb, just about a month after I give birth, and I know my mind just won't be in the right space for party planning.

@lamariniere: My DD is 2.5 and I can't imagine her in a cast. It would be horrible! Hang in there!

@amreis: that is a super cute theme. We have a couple of travel-related items also, but not enough to call it a theme. We have this:
    https://www.etsy.com/transaction/41524040?ref=fb2_tnx_title
and an old French print of a train and a ship.

Oh yay! So much news to come home too!

@amreis: Hudson is such a great name! And I love your sailing theme - so special to have the boat your grandpa made

@Pirouette: No real nursery inspiration photos, but I'll be excited to share some when we're done. Did you hear about the glucose test yet? Mine is Monday, and I'm just positive I'm going to fail as well, so I relate to your anxiety! Fingers crossed for you! Glad you got to sneak in a little getaway though - a massage sounds heavenly! In terms of clothes, do you have a Once Upon a Child near you? I went in " just to look" on Monday, and walked out with 10 onesies with designs, 10 sleepers, and a snowsuit for $57! I think I'm going to have a cute clothes problem!

@PurplePeony: it was just a scheduling quirk that has us starting so early - our due date is about a month later than everyone else in the class, which makes me feel awkward. But the next cycle ends after our due date, and I want to make sure I get my money's worth! And I just love your mural!! What a special addition!

@lamariniere: Poor DS!! I broke mine when I was 3, so I have all the sympathy in the world for him. Hope the next week and a half goes by quickly!

@mrsmate: We went apple picking last weekend, and DH was so happy to get his favorite kind of apple he wants to go back again this week!

Amazed the some of you aren't all the way in maternity clothes yet! Admittedly, I was a size 14/16 to begin with, but I went maternity pretty early and haven't looked back. I can't imagine trying to squeeze my bump into my old clothes! People keep saying "you look great! When are you due?" And when I answer December they have this long pause, then say "you look great!" Which I'm pretty sure means I'm huge!

Anyone else want to share their bump? This was yesterday, 27w 3d.

@mrsmate: oh man, the heat has knocked me out too this week! it just came out of nowhere, and my body was not able to easily adjust back to summer. When i've gotten home from work i've collapsed on my couch for at least 30 minutes and been unable to get up to get dinner started or any other chores...so ready for fall (LOVE apple picking, and can't wait until i have a LO old enough to take along!)

@jaypegs: thanks! i haven't heard yet. the test was tuesday and the doc said if i don't hear in two days assume i passed, so i'm hoping not to hear from her today and then cross my fingers she didn't just forget to call me i don't want to get my hopes up yet. wow, that's quite a haul of clothes! i'm in NYC, i don't know if we have that store, but i feel like even if we did it would probably be way more expensive here (everything is!) you look great!!

Hi Ladies! I've been lurking about for a while but I'd like to officially join the thread! I've been finding Hellobee to be extremely helpful for me as Hubby and I prepare for baby #1!

    A little bit about us:

    1) How far along are you now?
    27 weeks + 4 days

    2) How are you feeling? any weird symptoms? cravings?
Feeling good, except for the "big" comments some people make (so rude!).

    3) Do you know the sex?
    It's a BOY!

    4) Have you picked out a name?
We have a short list going but we haven't finalized it yet.

    5) Do you know where you are giving birth?
At the hospital about three blocks from our house.

    6) Have you made any baby purchases yet?
We ordered the crib, mattress, and glider and are waiting for them to arrive (I can't wait!!). I also purchased some smaller items: onesies, changing pad, etc.

    7) What are you most excited about in the next few weeks?
My sister is getting married in October. Fingers crossed my dress is going to fit! I ordered it a few sizes bigger and have my first fitting in a week to make sure I don't need to order extra fabric.

@jaypegs: You look great! I was a size 12/14 before getting pregnant and I swear I've been in maternity clothes since 14 weeks. Hey why not be comfortable!? I also get the same reaction when I say "oh I'm not due till december."

    @lamariniere: I wish DS a speedy recovery!

I had my one hour glucose test this morning. I was happy they had lemon-lime flavor as an option since I am not a fan of orange (it's the little things!). Fingers crossed that I passed.
