My appointment went great! The OB had gotten caught up by the time I got there, so I didn't have to worry about the delay.
Turns out, the OB I saw today was at the hospital when I lost S, even though I didn't even know it, so he already had first hand experience at who I was, which is nice, cause I get tired of relaying my story to every OB. He said, "Oh yeah, I know who you are!" I hear it a lot, but some OB's aren't as informed.
I heard the lovely heartbeat. I talked with him about plans for labor, and I told him that because of all the trauma with my last labor, I don't want to go into labor. I said I'd really like to have a c-section scheduled, and he said, "I don't blame you, and I think that's a good idea."
I have to wait 5 WHOLE weeks to go back, BUT, it's my anatomy scan!! Also, my blood sugar test (have to take it early, cause of my history), and I get to see the midwife who took care of me in the hospital, Nancy, for my appointment. November 15th won't come soon enough!

@Dandelion: That's awesome! I'm glad that it went so well. And November 15 will be here before you know it!

We had our ultrasound today. Baby was doing flips, waving arms and legs, etc. we got to hear the heartbeat again & got a good profile pic & arm pic to take home. My mom & DH both got to come. We were all just mesmerized watching baby on screen & hardly said a word!
I have my anatomy scan scheduled for 11/20.

had another check up today! everything looks great, baby was moving around a lot and looking cute the doctor thought maybe she'd be able to tell the sex today but no dice, babe's legs were crossed and folded, he/she didn't want us to see! hopefully at the next appointment! Baby was measuring a little small (for a 4/22 due date instead of 4/19) but the doctor didn't say anything about that.
I also got the go ahead to schedule a long research trip abroad next month, so that's good! I was hoping they'd let me go an extra week--4 weeks instead of 3-- so that I could get a little extra time to work, but the receptionist was being stubborn!

@nana87: Glad everything went ok! Usually if your baby is measuring within a week of the original due date they don't change it. That's what they told me anyway. As long as everything looks ok you are good to go. Sorry baby was being all shy guy lol

@nana87: I'm glad it went well, and that you still get to go on your trip! I have heard that a 5 day window for size is OK, so sounds like everything is looking great. Congrats

@nana87: yay! Glad everything went well & you got to see baby! hoping you haven't s of productive research time on your next trip!

My appointment has been set! November 27 we will get to find out what our Little Putz is. Looking forward to it although no one will know until after Christmas for selfish and unselfish reasons, lol. Except you guys. You will know. Woot!

so sorry for not updating sooner! i rescheduled my 10/17 appointment to 10/25 (16 weeks). we're hoping to find out the gender next week if the baby cooperates. we're so curious and hope that everything is well with the little peanut.
@PEAPIE: hope you have a great appointment today!

@SupernovaJ: Thanks lady! Me too! I'm nervous!
And exciting you get to find out the gender SO SOON!!!

The appointment was good! There was a cute little heartbeat (that DH recorded on his phone). Whew. I think I'm done worrying now. I've lost 1lb... which was a surprise. And I got my flu shot. The actual poke was fine, I don't mind needles at all, but the after is NOT pleasant. It's still throbbing.
Anyway, this is kind of different....
The rest of my appointments will be group appointments. I don't know if anyone else has heard of this sort of thing. It's called Centering Care. So you're put in a group of other couples that are due around the same time as you and do your appointments together. (If you're healthy and have no foreseeable issues.) There are usually two Midwives present and they go around and do all the things you normally do at prenatal appointments. And then it's also like a class/mingle time.
Do you guys think that's cool or weird? I thought we'd give it a shot since it's our first time around... we'll see.

@PEAPIE: First, glad your appt went well! Now you have made me nervous to get my flu shot, lol.
I, personally, have never heard of group appointments and don't know that I would ever partake in it if given the choice. I like the one on one time with my doctor to be able to ask any questions. Granted I am sure many women are going through or have gone through the same disgusting, embarrassing things as me, but I would feel less likely to ask my midwife/doctor about something with other's around.

@megz06: There's still one on one time within the group appointments.... where they do the normal prenatal stuff. So I'll still have a chance to ask my embarrassing questions in private! So true!

@PEAPIE: that's interesting! Are you delivering at a hospital or birth center? I don't know that for my first I would have sen comfortable with group appts but as a 2nd time mom, no big deal! I'm in and out in 5 minutes now lol
eggplant / 11408 posts
@megz06: eek! That's so soon! Excited for you
@SupernovaJ: I can't believe you get to know gender THIS WEEK. That's insane!
@PEAPIE: I've never heard of this, but it sounds pretty cool. I think I'd be open to the idea, as long as you got one on one time as well. Besides, I'm partial to being able to talk to people due around the same time as I am
apricot / 344 posts
@luckypenny: We plan on delivering at the (freestanding) birth center. The midwives have privileges to deliver at the hospital half a block away though - either by your choice or for emergencies.
apricot / 335 posts
@PEAPIE: Ah ok. I thought you would be out in the open all the time, lol. Still, it is a weird concept I am not sure I could do. I suppose if it is just BP, weight, and general questions that wouldn't be so bad.

I am so excited to see all the anatomy scans we are really moving right along. My dr's office doesn't do the anatomy scan until 22 weeks, so I'll schedule it at my 20-week appointment in November. So I guess we'll know (for sure at least) the week of Thanksgiving.
apricot / 335 posts
@gilmoregirl: Gah I'm going nuts waiting until the 27th. I feel like so many people on the WeddingBee boards (I participate over there) have already been finding out, and I have to wait.
That's crazy that you have to wait until week 22. Any specific reason they gave you of why they can't do it all at your 20 week appointment?
persimmon / 1273 posts
@megz06: Dunno why they do it so late; I didn't think to ask. I think in part it is probably not all at the 20-week appointment because it would be two separate appointments. The ultrasound office is attached to my doctors' office, but they're separate. Honestly, I would be out of my mind, but we got a really good view of the parts at the NT scan, so we're pretty comfortable with just waiting to confirm.

Appointment went well. Just heard the heartbeat and saw NP since my OB was caught up in surgery. DD was really scared when she pulled the Doppler out but as soon as we heard the heartbeat she started rubbing my tummy and saying "didi!" (Her word or baby). It was really sweet

@luckypenny: Glad your appt went well.
@LovelyPlum: Can you put me down for 10/28 for an OB appt?

Had my appointment this afternoon, everything went well! Just heard the heartbeat again (which was awesome) and had the NT blood test done. The Dr. said that within the next few weeks my DH will be able to hear the heartbeat through my stomach!? craziness!
My ultrasound is scheduled for 11/21! Hopefully we'll get to see if we've got a boy or girl cooking in there!

@luckypenny: Great appointment, and DD sounds adorable.
@jill_a55: That is so cool! Glad you had a good appointment.

So glad everyone's appointments are going well!
We just heard the heartbeat yesterday, no ultrasound. According to the old wives tale, it might be a boy (156 beats). It's always been on the higher end.
We're going back in two weeks at 18 weeks and again at 20 weeks for the anatomy scan. Ultrasound at both so hope to find out the sex then!
coconut / 8079 posts
@SupernovaJ: yay for hearing the heartbeat! And so exciting you will know the sex in 2 more weeks!!
