@sweetkeight: Those are some awesome numbers!
@Torchwood: So sorry your arm hurts. I hate when they take my blood because my veins do not cooperate.

@LovelyPlum: uh, yeah, I'm definitely a jump-up-and-down-like-a-schoolgirl type! I also love hugging, so HUGS all around! We're gonna do this, lady - it's so fun to have a friend in on it! *happiest grin* Yaknow, like you!
@torchwood @megz06 @kate6214: Thanks, ladies! It's nice to feel like I belong here. The past few days while waiting for the numbers, I kept thinking "I'm only sort of pregnant, so why am I posting in a pregnant board?" It's nice to have this confirmation and get it all clear and happy! Huzzah!
@t.h.o.u. - change of appointment, do you mind adding mine for September 11?

@sweetkeight: hooray for good numbers!!
Pretty sure I was supposed to get bloodwork but the lab was on lunch and I didn't want to wait. No harm waiting until my 8 week appointment right?

@sweetkeight: "Only sort of pregnant," ha ha ha, totally feeling that!

@luckypenny: I don't think it will hurt unless you are having issues. I guess I never got any blood work drawn except to tell me I was pregnant. I wasn't told I would get drawn tomorrow either. Not sure!

Good luck at your appointments today, everyone!! I expect mine to be boring, possibly blood work and urine sample as well as a cervix check (will I be even bigger? Yikes!), but an appointment is better than nothing, right? Monday I will be more excited

Ooo I love this idea!! So nice to be able to keep up with everyone! I will add my date as soon as I know, I haven't called yet. I'm thinking it will be the second or third week if September! glad to hear everyone is doing great so far!

So great to read all the good news here!!
I don't have my first real appointment until Sept 19 for my dating ultrasound. I'll also get blood work then, I'm told. When I called my doctor's office on Tuesday they said a nurse would also be calling me to set up a time to call me for a "phone appointment" to go over all the do's and don'ts and answer any questions. I sort of thought she'd call by now but I haven't heard anything. I don't want to be overly anxious, especially since I don't have a ton of questions and I feel like I sort of know most of the do's and don'ts already... so I probably won't call to check up on that until Monday or Tuesday of next week if I don't hear from her before then.

@Mae: I would follow up Monday or Tuesday if you haven't heard before then. I had a "phone interview" already and it was a lot of the dos/donts which mostly I knew.

I had a (massive) blood draw and my first Ultrasound yesterday!! Saw the heartbeat (Dr. said it's too early to hear it) and little tiny arms! So cool to know all this sickness and tiredness is for a reason! My husband went with me and was so amazed at everything!! My Dr. said I should be eating a lot of veggies and protein.. Of course that is all that stuck in my DH's head and now he keeps repeating it to me when I say I want something else.
@T.H.O.U.: Could you please add me to 9/19 for my next appointment?

@T.H.O.U. Thank you! Everything went well this morning. Got a prescription for Zofran just in case this nausea has decided to stay. And I have my first ultrasound scheduled for Sept 11!!!

@jhd: glad you got an rx to help your nausea - has it been really bad for you?

My appointment went well today. She checked my cervix again and said I was still really big, so she believes I am either holding a couple babies or farther along than I actually am, and she said this gives her further confirmation to go ahead with the u/s.
We did try to listen for a heart beat, and she told me not to freak out if she couldn't find it because she said with their little dopplers they typically can't hear it until about 9 weeks. I was able to hear mine but no baby unfortunately, but that's ok. I'm still convinced there is a "little putz" in there (little putz was the name given to this baby already by my dad since our St. Bernard is called "putz" for his stubbornness and slowness lol, so I am going to roll with it).
Ultrasound has been changed from Monday to Tuesday, August 27, so please put me down for August 27

Oh, I had the wrong date on mine because it was yesterday...but we saw the heartbeat and my due date hasn't changed although I am measuring ahead. I'm keeping my due date, but changing the measurements because I will do ANYTHING to be closer to the 2nd trimester and some proper relief from the nausea/vomiting.

The prenatal appointment went well, we got a little picture to take home. The peanut is measuring 6w1d, smaller than according to my ovulation date. The tech gave us a thorough trans-vaginal ultrasound and it was surreal seeing the yolk sac and embryo with blood flowing throughout. You could see it move around, so cute. The technician took photos of each ovary and she could tell I had ovulated from my left ovary (it was swollen and larger than the other one because it's supplying the progesterone in early pregnancy). Really informative. As of today my EDD is April 11 but they are having me come back on September 12 for a dating ultrasound. I should be 9 weeks by then. Also, I am going to cancel my other appointment for 9/4 because I loved this OB practice so much. Everyone was so nice and excited for us.

@SupernovaJ: Sounds like a terrific appointment!!
@Dandelion: I am too. At my 4 week appt she said I felt more like 6 weeks. So, let's say that were true, that would make me more 8 weeks along now which means you might be able to hear a heart beat. I'm anxious to know what's in there!

@megz06: I'm so glad your ultrasound is on Tuesday...mine is still 3 weeks away, so I'm going to live vicariously through yours, lol

So I really need to vent about this- I had my first OB apt today and I'm 7wk5 days. I went in thinking that I would at least hear the baby's heart beat and know everything is ok. Well I go in and it takes and hour to even get back to the room. From the med assistant inputs my information( almost screwed up the medications I take too putting them on and then takes my vitals. I have high blood pressure and take my meds in the am so I expect it to be higher on the late am until my meds kick in. The am took my Bp freaked out bc it was high and then refused to tell me what the reading was. She kept saying I didn't need to know bc I would worry and I needed to relax. After me prompting her several times se just told me it was in the 170's. later I found out it was 178/96 by watching her input it into the computer. After that I asked her what to expect and she tells its just a pelvic exam, lab work, urine cultures and that's it. I asked about hearing a heart beat and she told me not until 10-13 weeks and try won't so t earlier because a lot of babies don't have a heart beat and it would only worry me if they tried and couldn't find it. I was not happy. The np
Came in and she was at least nice and informative. In the end I found out that they won't do my first ultrasound until 18-20 weeks unless I choose to do genetic testing I which case I would get one at 10-13 weeks an I don't get any teaching on pregnancy until my second apt which is 4 weeks from now. To top it off they bill you for all of your costs at the end of delivery and they don't tell you how much everything is. Ugh! Both me and my husband left the appt feeling very disappointed and upset. Anyone else have any of these problems? I'm just so disheartened right now
persimmon / 1273 posts
@MrsSpadusa: Sorry your appointment was so disappointing..I really think they should be more willing to discuss the blood pressure with you since you already know you have high bp, you know? I dont' know if this is helpful at all, but we did not hear the heartbeat this time. She said not till next appointment (when I'll be 13 weeks).
I felt like my appointment went pretty well overall, but I didn't know they planned to take bloodwork, so I asked for a lab slip. I was so sick and unsteady yesterday, and I felt really unprepared for labs (I'm a fainter).
I also didn't know that the NT scan was going to be optional (at least at my practice)...we're really conflicted about what to do.
apricot / 335 posts
@Dandelion: I really don't. My mom said I was nauseous way too early after finding out I was pregnant, but I'm not sure if that's a symptom or not because I haven't gotten sick yet. I don't really know any other symptoms to look for.
@MrsSpadusa: I'm so sorry. We didn't have any issues. I am concerned that you have to wait 4 weeks to find anything out about what you should and shouldn't be doing. As far as the testing, u/s, and what not they are pretty spot on with that since each practice does it differently, but I've never heard of them not billing you until the very end. I would maybe consider a different OB as they seem very dismissive of how you are feeling.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@MrsSpadusa: Some of that seems normal, but the billing part doesn't. When I had DS, there was a flat rate charge for the whole prenatal and delivery and they calculated what my insurance was going to take care of and had me make payments for what was left. The only things that weren't included were the extra things like the NICU stay and things that don't normally come about. Could they even give you an idea of what the bill would be? That seems weird.
You won't hear a heart beat that early without an ultrasound...they're just not big enough...in 4 weeks they'll probably check, though.
Do you have options for other OBs in your area?
coconut / 8079 posts
@SupernovaJ: So glad your appointment went well! That's great you got a picture to take home!!!
coconut / 8079 posts
@MrsSpadusa: Sorry your appt was frustrating. My OB said that billing for pregnancy is very different than for other situations. She also said that different insurance companies handle it differently. I'm not sure yet how mine works.
olive / 70 posts
I do have other OB s in the area so I'm going to look around. I work as an RN so I know that you can find a heart beat between 6-8 weeks depending on the Doppler you're using. If its a bigger, higher end Doppler it's relatively easy to find actually. I also know that doing a quick ultrasound will show the heart rate as well. That's perhaps why I'm so disappointed bc I know what can. Be done and there not giving me the option for it.

Glad everyone's appointments are going well! Tuesday I go for an ultrasound-I'll be 6w5d so I'm really hoping we can see a heartbeat. I'm also hoping to find out when we'll be released from our RE to an OB. I've heard anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks.
persimmon / 1141 posts
@Dandelion @megs06 thank you ladies!
@mrsspadusa: I had no idea billing would be different for prenatal care. I should probably look into that. But regarding your appointment, I'm so sorry it wasn't the best experience. That doesn't sound normal to me - I think bedside manner is so important and they should make you feel supported and at ease. I would look into another practice if you are able to. Keep us posted! Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months+ ahead.
apricot / 335 posts
@MrsSpadusa: I know you said you are an RN and probably already know this stuff, but I would also check what your insurance covers because some insurances don't cover an u/s that early. I am not sure about the doppler. I just had my appointment yesterday (i was 6wks 5d) and she couldn't find a heart beat. My Dr, was really apprehensive about doing it because she didn't want me to panic, but she did it anyway. She could hear mine but no baby. I am very lucky I get an u/s next week, but I don't have to pay for it. They are just doing it for me and then pretending like I was never even there. Otherwise, she told me my insurance wouldn't cover that u/s. They only cover the one at 12 weeks.
