@megz06: good luck!!
So I have a new appointment date. 9/4 for a nurse appointment in the office. I thought it was going to be on the phone but apparently they need to do some baseline bloodwork. Full blood count, STD test, Thyroid test, checking my resistance to communicable diseases, and a urine test to check for UTI (which seems a bit odd bc believe me, I KNOW when I have one haha).
I'm a little surprised at all the up-front blood work when I feel fine, but I guess they just like to verify everything. Not super looking forward to this appointment because I hate having blood work done (even when I know everything is fine I stress). But, it will be fine. Get it over with and move on to the 8 week scan!!

oh my gosh girls, do you get nervous before your appointments?? my first is in an hour and I'm excited but nervous too, my stomach is acting up again for the first time in a few days and I think it's anxiety! I'm also traveling after my appointment so maybe it's the combination of packing and stressing about timing, but eeek! I'm supposed to have an ultrasound, so I'll either be "meeting" my little bean for the first time or something will be terribly wrong!

@nana87: I was nervous but I'm sure everything will be fine have fun seeing the little bean!

@nana87: Good luck! Yes I remember being very nervous. Just know that whatever emotions you have, its normal, they have seen it all!

@nana87: ALWAYS. I somehow always think that the worst will happen, and so that freaks me out. But I've been getting better recently. I think we all just want to make sure the little ones are OK!
Hope it goes well. Thinking of you! And have a great trip-hope you have a pic to bring DH

My "little putz" is right on schedule and the heart is beating away at 194 beats per minute! I couldn't be more thrilled to see him/her doing so well. My husband was fascinated by the u/s machine (go figure lol), but we were both so happy to see a little baby in there. So looking forward to the 12 week. She said the next time we see the baby, it will have arms and feet! So crazy!

@mrsog: Thank you!
@T.H.O.U.: No twins fortunately and unfortunately unless I get a heck of a surprise later on! But, no, one delightful baby

just got back from my appointment--everything went really well! got to see the baby (eeeee!!) and got a pic to show dh. I could see the heartbeat flickering but she didn't play the sound--I should have asked, but oh well! I'm measuring a little small but the dr wasn't worried--I thought my edd was 4.18, but her estimate is 4.19 and the babe was measuring a 4.21 due date. she said anything within 7 days at this point though is totally normal since the baby is so small that any millimeter makes all the difference.
the rest of the appointment was great too. I got a lot of bloodwork done and she spent awhile talking to me about all the do's and don'ts. most were things I already knew, except she said no artificial sweeteners which I hadn't read about before. I really like my dr--I think she's really thorough and proactive, and she was really sweet and congratulatory too.
my next appointment is 9/19! she said she usually goes 4 weeks in between appointments at this stage but will be out of town that week and said I could come in either in 3 or 5 weeks. I obviously chose sooner!

@nana87: Great news! Thats so great you could see the heartbeat. Don't worry about not hearing it, I was told its an artificial sound at this point anyways.

@luckypenny: Thank you!
@LovelyPlum: Absolutely elated! The u/s tech almost tried to rain on my parade when I asked for a picture. She said, "Well, it isn't much right now you know." I'm like, "I really don't care. That's my baby!" She then asked, 'Is this your first?" I said yes, and then she got a softer and said, "You guys must be thrilled." And we are!
@nana87: Glad your appointment went well too! If you can share the pic, please do. I am obsessed now. I should have asked to hear the heart beat too, but I didn't. Oh well. Lucky you get another chance in 4 weeks!!

@sweetkeight: Not yet, thanks for asking. It normally takes two days, so there wasn't a huge chance it would be today. To be honest, the part of me that's afraid of bad news is relieved. It's kinda like this might be my last couple days to enjoy being pregnant, and if it is the extra day is nice. Trying not to be that pessimistic, so I'm mostly not thinking about it. Though my stomach has definitely dropped every time the phone rang. (And with the moving, it's rung a lot)

@Mae: I think the all the blood work is standard. I had a few tests done at my last appointment before ttc & then they took lots of blood last week. I think my doctor said there are certain tests that have to be done on mom so pediatrician has certain info etc.

@T.H.O.U.: Can you please put me down for an appt on 9/11? I have my 1st ultrasound that day!!
cherry / 202 posts
@jhd: Me too! They moved my appt to 9/11 and I get to do an ultrasound. Because I was seeing an RE, it's not my first prenatal, instead, it's a "viability" appointment... how's that for disheartening? Still, I like to see it as my first ultrasound, since we get to do that. I call that: obsessive optimism. Haha.

@Torchwood: Today, we are pregnant - what a beautiful perspective you have. I'm thinking of sticky sticky glue-y rubber cement-y adhesive-y things like honey and syrup and all manner of super glues for you!

Just wondering... has everyone gone for a blood test to confirm after getting their bfp? I have an appt with my OB 9/18 and I will be about 7w3ds but I wasn't going to see anyone till then. Is that normal? Sorry if its a dumb question - this is obviously my first time and I feel so clueless!
apricot / 335 posts
@mrsog: I got one after I had a bfp, but I didn't wait until I was 7 weeks pregnant. I tested and then the next day I made an appointment.
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: I didn't go in for a blood test. They told me they trust the digital test! I have an appointment next week at 5.5 weeks with a nurse for blood work, but I don't know that they will even do a pregnancy test at that point, I think just checking for everything else?
pear / 1974 posts
@mrsog: I called my OB right as I got my BFP, then they scheduled me for a first "consult" 2 weeks later, where they just took my blood and urine, and had me speak to a nurse practitioner. I know they took like at least 6 vials of blood and one was for genetic screening - but I never even asked what the others were for. I figured to confirm the pregnancy, check levels etc, so I called yesterday and asked about the blood work results, and they said "everything looks normal" - I take that to mean I am, in fact, pregnant? haha my next appointment is tomorrow for my first ultrasound, and i will be 7w 4d.

@chibee: Same. I asked what all the blood was for and it was (to the best of my memory because its a lot!): complete blood count, testing for a whole bunch of STDs, testing my resistance/immunity to communicable diseases like chicken pox and german measles, testing my thyroid levels, and checking my blood type. She didn't mention testing pregnancy hormones or testing to make sure I am, in fact, pregnant. But maybe that goes without saying? Lol

@nana87: that's amazing, congrats! I hope you are having a great time celebrating with DH and the pups
@megz06: no raining on the parade of new mamas
@Torchwood: thinking of you and hoping and praying for great news!!
@sweetkeight: obsessive optimism, indeed! When I went in for my first, the doctor pulled the screen to him at first, which I later realized meant that he was trying to make sure there was something to see before he showed me. It's the nature of the beast, I guess. BUT, there's no sense in focusing on that (remind me of that later, k??). We are pregnant today, and for now, that is enough
@mrsog: I did, but I don't know that it's standard practice everywhere. I did mostly because of my losses. If you want a blood test, you could always call your doc...it doesn't hurt to ask!
Getting excited for my appointment next week! Still nervous, but I'm trying to think only positive things. I've found myself thinking past that day with good thoughts, though the scary ones still creep in. Trying to focus on the positive, though!

@megz06: @Mae: @chibee: ok thanks everyone. I did call the day after I got my bfp and she said that I will need to come in between 6 and 8 weeks so thats when my appt is for. I trust the HPT (I took 3 of them!) and my symptons enough to know I am in fact preggo. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing an important step!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Mae: did they do a urine test? Maybe they did that instead of blood!
