@mrsblue, hang in there! Definitely make DH help you with all that stuff. Maybe invest in some easy slip ons, lol.

@Jaguar, no advice, but i hope your test goes well!

@Mrs. Blue: @bpaig: @Jaguar: @hergreenapples: I know, I am so frustrated!!! I don't think it's unreasonable for me to want to know what I'm coming back to. I've been in the same job for 2 years, I have more experience than my coworkers. I'd really like a promotion.

@jaguar: I have not done the test yet so no advice! Sounds like yours is different from mine, my midwife told me to have a small protein packed snack right before. Good luck!!!

@jaguar: Yeah, I was really wanting DH to be able to feel it, too! Him interacting with our babies like that just seems so significant. No advice on the glucose test, but good luck! Will you be done with work after this or is it just a holiday break?

Thanks everyone! Looks like I'll be a guinea pig for anyone who's doing the full 2-3 hour test.

I'll be done with work after this. (YAY!) I'm lucky, but it's unpaid - so we're just making it work on a single income for now. I'm on holidays (our usual teacher summer break) from next Friday to end of January anyway, so then I'll be off til the baby's born & after, all going well.

@sslm: I am totally frustrated on your behalf. Is the leadership where you work male or female? The women in my workplace (myself included) have run into some annoying obstacles lately wherein male leadership doesn't seem to grasp that women can be both mothers and career-oriented.

Ladies, I'm a total nerd and ordered a Christmas themed maternity shirt a couple weeks ago on Etsy. It arrived today. I think I'm going to wear it to Christmas dinner

I also remembered to snap a 23 week (technically 23w2d) photo on my way out the door to the gym last evening.

I might be receiving the worst mother of the year award... stopped for a latte this morning and ordered it half-caf, which is WELL within the daily limits for caffeine. Except after I had drank nearly all of it, I glanced at my receipt and realized that the barista heard "half-caf" as "extra-caf" (or something) because a turbo charge shot was listed on the receipt! Oops.... ugh. I am chugging water to try to mitigate the amount of caffeine I just poured into my poor baby

  8. heartonastring

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@bpaig: I wouldn't worry A shot of espresso has less caffeine than a cup of coffee. So even if you got a double shot, you're probably still under the 200 mg/day that's recommended as the limit during pregnancy. I think there are approximately 75mg caffeine per shot.

@bpaig: Oh no! I'm sure the baby is fine, though you may get kicked a LOT in the next few hours!

@hergreenapples: oh! That makes me feel a lot better!

@Mrs. Blue: yeah... sigh. Poor thing. It's probably all "what the heck??" in there.

So, I had my latest ultrasound today, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are starting to look cute in a non-alien way! They are much more like babies instead of 90-year old men, though I'm still looking forward to them fattening up more!

    Here's Baby B! I am SO in love y'all!

@BPaig, I think you're also ok! The caffeine issue is primarily in the first tri, your body should be able to metabolize it well by now, even if you're kind of hyperactive and crazy for a few hours.

@hergreenapples, so cute! I love the christmas sweater

@mrsblue, awwww, hello baby B! They totally look like babies now. They look so creepy before this point, though. Although I think Baby B has a mischievious look going on.

@blackbird: OMG, he's totally mischievous already! I can't upload Baby A's picture because his face his half covered by Baby B's bottom...which is what Baby B always does during every ultrasound!

I saw the baby move around in my belly this morning! Pretty strange!

I'm still feeling pretty good, although the past few days I've been struck by a bit of low self-esteem. Really noticing the widening of my hips/bottom/waist and that my thighs are rubbing together now. I haven't gained too much weight (I don't weigh myself at home, but I was up 11lbs at week 20), but it just seems to be going to the places I really didn't need it!

My belly is pretty noticeable now, too, though- and that's fun!

My husband is working all weekend, and I have to finish the holiday baking and shopping- so it will be busy!

I just got insanely out of breath from changing the sheets on our bed. Either I am way more out of shape than I realized or pregnancy is messing with my lung capacity! Has anyone else noticed being more short of breath than normal?

We just put an order in for our crib set! After seeing lots of white in person today, we changed our minds and stuck to basic timber in walnut.

This package comes with the crib, mattress, change table + mat & chest of drawers. So excited for it to arrive - before Christmas if we're lucky.

@mrsblue, I get tired going up stairs if I go too quickly! I was *just* whining about this last night to DH!

@Jag, that set is adorable! We went with white b/c it's too hard to match pieces from different places with dark wood, but it looks great!

    @Mrs. Blue: cute!

    @jaguar: The set looks nice!

I'm not sure if we should buy another crib or just use a pack n play?!

Time for me to delurk over here. I kind of forgot about HB for a while, but then was off work resting this week and have been stalking the blogs and boards to fill my time.

EDD is April 3 and I'm team green.

We haven't done too much to prepare our house yet for baby. I emptied the room that will be the nursery, but that is now Christmas wrapping central and a disaster.

I've spent a lot of time this last week just laying staring at my belly when the baby moves. It amazes me to see my stomach moving and I love every moment of it.

@blackbird: That was one of the reasons why I was THIIIIIIIS close to getting white. Ah well. They'll all look great, regardless.
@Silva: So awesome. I've not seen any outside movement yet.
@Mrs. Blue: Omgosh, he looks SO cheeky. I love him!
    @ALV91711: Welcome to the thread!
@autumnlove: I love pack and plays. I hope someone gets us one from the baby registry. It'd be perfect for naps downstairs.

  24. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@Jaguar, yeah we got 2 Ikea pieces and one from another place. If we'd gone dark wood (which i loooove), we'd have had to get a whole set like you did. It will look so chic, though. We have dark wood in the rest of our house. Love it.

Ha, we might move one of our couches into another room of the house to make room for a pack and play in the beginning. We'll see.

I"m jealous of those who have started nesting! I had a bit of a meltdown last night. We've only gotten the dresser & changing pad at this point. My husband is in a very busy month at school, and keeps promising he will start reading all my books & helping me nest in January- but its so hard to wait!
I can't explain the physical urge to cross things off the to-do list. I've always been a planner, but lately I feel a bit obsessive going over and over the to-do lists in my head.

How is everyone doing with names? I decided to share mine with you all- throwing caution to the wind!

I think we've decided on Alden Robert for a boy- husband is an ancestor of John Alden, and always loved the name (plus it means "old friend" which I am crazy about), and Robert was my dad's father's name. My only hesitation about this name is how close it is to Aiden (trying to avoid popular names).

For a girl our favorite is Theodora Elliott (we'd call her "Thea") - Theodora from this amazing lady: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodora_%28wife_of_Justinian_I%29
and Elliott which was my mom's dad's name.

We also really like Josephine, a family name of mine, but keep coming back to Theodora. I know its not a name everyone goes crazy for, but we both love it. My mom hated it at first, but its growing on her, especially since deciding she will nickname the baby Teddy.

@Silva: I so hear you on wanting to cross things off the list, but feeling that you're in a holding pattern. My DH is in the middle of transitioning from one job to another. His new position starts at the beginning of January and he is under an incredible amount of stress to wrap everything up at his current workplace before Christmas. He's been there for over seven years, so there are a lot of loose ends to tie up. This has meant that he, like your DH, has been telling me that he will help me in January. And I'm starting to freak out about all that we have to do and how little time we have to do it.

Yesterday he suggested we go to a local children's furniture store though and we did pick out a crib. He also finally had time to sit down and look at the registry with me to figure out what we think we might be gifted vs. what we need to buy for ourselves. I'm so grateful that he's finally making time, but I still feel like we really need to get a move on!

On another note entirely, our busy husbands aren't the only thing we have in common...if we have a boy his middle name will be Robert as well, after my stepfather who passed away in April 2011. The names you've chosen are beautiful - classic, but not overused, unique but not in a way that's even close to obnoxious. I really like them!

  27. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Silva: I like both those names very much. Thea is a cute nicknames.

We've had our names picked for a while. But then the other morning I said something about our boys name and apparently we both thought we had chosen a different name for the middle name. I thought we were using David, my dad's middle name and he thought we were using Dennis, my dad's first name. So the middle name will be Dennis and now we are on the same page. I thought it was kind of funny.

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@hergreenapples: Thank you for the compliments on the names! It sounds like you are making some progress. I am surprised by how strong the urge is- I know rationally that January is only a few weeks away, and that we still have plenty of time...but I keep thinking: "How can you not be freaking out! We are over half way through and all we have an empty dresser and a couple blankets!"

I'm just trying to look forward to January, when he can be a bit more involved- I think that will feel good.

Stressful time of year to change jobs! I hope you are able to find time to relax together.

I am a therapist, and so I spend all day helping people look at patterns in their thoughts/beliefs/emotions, and admittedly this makes me way more self-analytical than is probably healthy- but I am enjoying noticing new patterns in these mood swings! Last night I was so upset- feeling lonely and frustrated and angry, and today I feel so much love toward him that I want to do all of these nice things! Its kind of funny, in a way- although he probably doesn't feel that way!

Our name is decided! We're just working on a middle name.

Well, the glucose test is over and I'm fine. Other than being bored out of my mind, it wasn't too bad. I blogged about the whole thing {which you can read if you want the link} and... I have to wait for results now. I think I'll be waiting for a while, because of the Christmas break.

  30. ALV91711

@jaguar: Glad the test is done. Hopefully it doesn't take them too long to get the results to you.

  31. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@jaguar: Love the furniture choice! I'm glad you're test is over, and I hope the results come back perfect!

@ALV91711: Glad to have you join! Our nursery is still a serious disaster, so I sympathize!

@Silva: Great name choices! Alden Robert sounds like a future literary genius. Love it!

We are still soooo far from ready, and it's starting to freak me out a little since I probably only have 12 weeks left, best case scenario. Our nursery is still full of junk. We haven't assembled any furniture. Nothing is painted, decorated, etc. My mom is going to come up in January and hopefully we will make some great strides then or I will be a huge mess.

As for names, I think we are settled on them, but I just can't quite feel 100% even though we've told our families what we will probably be naming them. I think I have this strange feeling that I can't actually name these babies until they are here and I see them. Does that sound odd?

I am absolutely dying for my little Christmas break to get here. We're leaving for the mountains with DH's family on Friday and coming home the day after Christmas. So ready for a few days off work. What are everyone's holiday plans?

@hergreenapples: Definitely male. It's an engineering environment, and yes, it's disgusting and very frustrating!!! I am hoping to not go back to that job after mat leave... You look awesome btw! I love the Christmas shirt, I am jealous!!

@bpaig: I wouldn't worry about a one time occurrence too much

@Mrs. Blue: What a cute little face!!!! And yes, I have been getting out of breath way quicker than normal. Stairs are my worst enemy.

@Silva: I'm struggling with self esteem too. What helped a little was buying myself a pretty maternity outfit that I felt really confident in! Also, my hubby keeps telling me how awesome I look so that doesn't hurt either And I love the names!!

    @jaguar: Love the furniture!!!

I came home from work today to find out flat pack nursery boxes on our porch - they weren't supposed to be delivered until Friday! We're so busy with work over the next few days that we won't be able to put them together until the weekend but still... exciting!!!!
