Hey mamas! Have been MIA the past few weeks from being on vacation in SF and trying to catch up post-vacation.
Some exciting news - we are Team Pink! Found out at my 20-week U/S. The pictures were so cool this time - she's getting much bigger. The hubby was there with me, and I think he thought it was pretty cool, too.
We didn't get all our pics at 20 weeks due to an uncooperative baby so needed to come back. Unfortunately, there were some spots on the heart that the radiologist said were markers for Down Syndrome. My changes increased from 1 in 22K to 1 in 11K. The Dr. also said for some reason about 10% of Asian peeps show up with these heart spots on the U/S. My OB recommends an amnio standard b/c of my age (I'm in my late 30s) but said on the other hand it's probably nothing to really worry about.
Still struggling with the decision not to have an amnio to find out - think it's a 1/200 chance of miscarriage (at our hospital it's something like 1/800 or 1/1000). But had a long talk with the hubby about the probable outcome and our decisions and am feeling better. Odds are there's nothing to worry about but hearing about "markers" and "increased risks" is scary. And here I was enjoying an uneventful pregnancy so far despite being old as the hills!
Anyway - thanks for listening, ladies.

And just catching up on older posts:
@SSLM - am disgusted to hear that your boss had that reaction to your pregnancy. How positively 60s of him.
My boss is a family guy and told me - whatever you decide to take off, time-wise, will be fine, and we'll make it work. I thought that was really cool before, and am now realizing now that I should really really appreciate that!
Re: baby kicks, my little gal is a champion kicker!! I wasn't always sure if it was gas or not but it's becoming obvious she's a mover. In the U/S she was moving around like crazy! So neat.
@Silva - I love that you went public with your names, and the ones you've chosen. I want to go for something classic (like yours!) but I have a feeling the hubby isn't going to be that cooperative based on initial probing.
I'm also at about 11 lbs gain at almost 22 weeks and am just waiting for the onslaught. I'm expecting to gain a whole lot more...
We really haven't gotten very far in baby prep but figure it'll work itself out. I did get some used prenatal yoga DVDs from a mom on Craigslist and ended up buying a bunch of stuff from her (secondhand: maternity clothes, baby girl clothes, books). I love buying stuff secondhand.

@Mrs. Blue: We're SO busy this weekend with Christmas stuff and parties, I think we may leave the nursery stuff until after it's died down.
@nycbee: Congratulations on your little girl - those odds are still very low risk, so try not to worry too much. *hugs*
I finished work today - they gave me a lovely going away hamper of baby goodies, and now I get to relax until bub is here. I'd be on holiday leave (our summer break here in Oz) from now til Feb anyway.. so I'm just staying off, nice early leave. It'll be unpaid from Feb, but I'm happy about it.

@nycbee: Congrats on the girl! How exciting! I'm sorry for the less than ideal news, but it sounds like you are still very low risk. @jaguar: I'm incredibly jealous that you are done work. Really really really jealous.
Well, I keep waiting for this "honeymoon period" of the second trimester to start. Now at almost 23 weeks, I can probably assume its not coming (or will be brief). I do feel better than the first trimester, but I'm still SO TIRED. I need so much sleep at night to even feel human throughout the day.
Hopefully part of this is the time of year- its hard to get motivated when its so dark all the time, and I'm dragging at work waiting for this long weekend....but man! Our apartment is in shambles & I feel so unproductive all the time because all I want to do is lie on the couch!

@nycbee: Yay for Pink!
@jaguar: Congrats on being done with work! Happy nesting!
@Silva: My 2nd tri has been kinda rough too..way too much nausea!

@Silva: I think the exhaustion is normal - this time of year is always crazy, the holiday makes us SO tired. Try to relax as much as you can. x
@autumnlove: I'm excited but also clueless about where to even begin! You look wonderful - love those colours.

Hope you're all having a safe holiday season.
Hubby couldn't wait to give me my Christmas present (even though we weren't supposed to be exchanging this year.. spoiled) - so he shared it last night. It's so cute!
Back story: we'd seen this while out looking at nursery stuff, and I'd fallen in love - except I couldn't justify spending it when we still had a cot/change/drawer set already coming. I said I'd see if we had gift vouchers I could use it for one day.. but he actually went hunting it down and assembled it ready to go. It's a cradle-style bassinet which is going to live next to our bed until baby is a few months old and moves to the crib. Squee!

merry christmas, gang! (for those of you who celebrate it!)
@jaguar - wow - that bassinet is stunning. i imagined having something in our bedroom too but don't imagine it will be nearly as pretty as what you have. what a lovely hubby! (and love the 3 little bows he stuck on the bassinet - lol!)

22 weeks pregnant today! This pregnancy is flying by!

Hope everyone had a happy holiday! We are in the middle of a big snow storm, but I braved the roads into work this morning anyway....thinking I will probably leave early. These quiet days are so easy that I hate to waste paid time-off on them!
We got our car seat and the extra base for Christmas from my husband's family, which was pretty exciting!
I'm 23 and 1/2 weeks & feeling large. I will try to get a nice bump picture soon.
I'm reading Anne Lamott's book Operating Instructions & highly recommend it to all of you guys. Its a very humorous and touching journal from her son's first year of life.
Next doctor's appt is on Monday, and includes the gestational diabetes test. I'm going to ask them about my iron levels- they were low early in pregnancy & I still feel exhausted/have no energy.

@autumnlove: Happy 22 weeks!!!!
@Silva: Yay! Our in-laws bought our car seat for us for baby too, so we're feeling lucky. Good luck with your diabetes testing.
@Pumpkinspice: Such a glorious bump. That top is awesome!
@bpaig: Squee! Congratulations on 24 weeks AND your little man.

@bpaig: CONGRATS on both viability and Team Blue!!
@Pumpkinspice: Cute shirt! Looking adorable!
@Silva: My GD test is next Wednesday. I'm kind of nervous. Good luck on yours!
As for us, I'm 26 weeks tomorrow, and our ultrasound today went great. Baby A is 2 lbs 2 oz. and Baby B is 1 lb. 14 oz. I can't believe how much they have grown in 4 weeks! They've doubled in weight. I knew that this was a big growth spurt, but yowzers! We had a good Christmas, but I'm so glad to be home again. We are going to try to finish getting out nursery cleaned out and starting to assemble furniture this weekend.

Today we hit the 24-week mark. I know it isn't a promise of all being well, but it's a good number to be at. #viability

@jaguar: YAY, VIABILITY!!!! I felt so great hitting that, even if I just started worrying about the next milestone. Congrats on making it this far and here's to an additional healthy 16 or so weeks!

@Mrs. Blue: Thanks love! Always something new to worry about, but I'm happy to have hit 24 weeks JUST before the New Year begins here in Aus!
Speaking of.. here's the bump for today at 24 exactly!

@jaguar: very cute dress! although I'm very glad to have avoided a summer pregnancy, your cute dresses do make me a bit wistful for all the maternity sun dresses I could be rocking.
@Pumpkinspice: You look great!
This is me two days ago at 24 weeks (according to LMP- ovulation date and baby's size have me about 5 days behind that)

what is everyone up to for New Years? I have come down with an awful head cold, so I'm already in bed (before 9:00!), and plan to do a little online window shopping and watch a law and order while rubbing eucalyptus oil on my chest before passing out. my husband is doing the dishes and having a beer. wild and crazy around here!
we've gotten lots of snow lately, and went snowshoeing on Saturday which was wonderful. I'm planning to go again tomorrow unless I'm somehow feeling worse than I did today.

@Silva: You look beautiful!
It's already 1pm on New Years Day here - we had a quiet one, vegged out at home & watched the fireworks on TV and out of our window too, since the local park does some too.

@Silva: you look great! What a sweet picture.

@Silva: We went for an early dinner, came home and played a couple games, then curled up on the couch to watch a bit of tv and we were in bed just after 10pm. It was wonderful.
Now today I'm lounging in my pj's and taking it easy.
Happy New Year everyone!

@bpaig: great picture & cute bump!
@ALV91711: Sometimes I think about how bored the 21-year old me would be with our quiet evenings these days- but I love them too!

Y'all, can I just have a quick pity party? I had a huge break down at the doctor's office today. I am physically amd emotionally exhausted from this pregnancy, and I just don't know how I'm going to keep going for another 9-10 weeks. I was trying to tell my doctor about how I'm just feeling bad generally, crampy, uneasy, worried about my blood pressure, and I started sobbing. He sort of glossed over it and thought I was referring to the headache I've had for two weeks and told me to take Claratin and that "feeling bad is just hard on people who are normally healthy." I just wanted to scream that it's not just a stupid headache that would send me into Sobfest 2013, but I didn't know how to explain that I am just at my limit physically and emotionally and I feel like I have nothing else to give. I swear if he had told me I needed to be on bed rest, I would have been mostly relieved, even though I know it wouldn't be fun. My OB practice doesn't have a super conservative approach to twins, so that definitely wouldn't happen unless something was majorly wrong. So, I'm whining to you guys because do don't know who else to whine to--sorry!
Vent/Sobfest over. Thanks!

@Mrs. Blue: I'm sorry, that really sucks!!! I feel your pain slightly, I have been uncomfortable too, and just sick with worry that something's wrong. Have you tried anything to relax? I have been getting massages and that does wonders. Also, do you have some extra curricular stuff you can cut out and just do the bare minimum? Maybe put yourself on modified bed rest. I did that to myself when I was crampy in the first trimester. I just told my hubby I thought I needed to only go to work and do nothing else, and it helped a lot.

@Mrs. Blue: I'm so sorry you're feeling so crappy. I think you should take a day of from work and try to pamper yourself. Try to be gentle and prioritize relaxing and comfort.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Big hugs lovely - I'm so sorry your OB is being so laid back about it all. You'll feel the stresses of pregnancy quicker than most of us, since you're so far ahead in twin-world - so take it easy and be kind to yourself. It's ok to feel that way! Can you take some time off and just have some of that bed-rest, even for your own sanity?
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Silva: @jaguar: @sslm: Thanks, ladies! I'm just being a huge baby, but it's so nice to hear a sympathetic word! I don't know what I would do without my HB people! As for taking a day or two off, I really can't since I need to save all my time for maternity leave and I just took a couple days at Christmas. I'll be okay, but it's just been rough the last couple of weeks, you guys are the best for listening! I'll definitely try to get a massage scheduled in the next few weeks, though!

@Mrs. Blue: I'm sorry that your feeling this way, that is no fun. Take some time in the evenings to just relax, the housework and errands can always be done later or by someone else. Try to take it easy and take a day to pamper yourself. We are here to listen to you vent anytime you need.
