@Silva: I'm definitely relieved to be measuring ok, since the worry with the NT scan/low PAPP-A was that she'd be small. I agree - hopefully the more constant monitoring will be reassuring!

@sylvie_b: That looks so cute!!!!!!
I was measuring 30 weeks at 31 weeks, which kind of freaks me out, but I think I have been measuring about a week behind pretty consistently. I just have to trust that if my midwives were concerned about it they'd bring it up? Plus I had the u/s last Friday and everything looked good... so I am trying not to overreact... maybe she's just small?

@Pumpkinspice: & @sylvie_b: Thanks gorgeous girls. xx
@sslm: Remember that a fundal measurement isn't SUPER accurate - I'm sure your wee one is doing just fine there!

@hergreenapples - oo, that's so awesome that your midwives have a lending library! i put a bunch of books on my registry, which i now have in hand. and it's a heck of a lot of books!
@pumpkinspice - what a cute bump!
@sylvie_b - love your nursery! It looks so cozy! I'd love to settle into that rocker myself. And I'm loving that changing table.
Where did you guys get that rug? It looks nice & plush. I'm trying to figure out where to get our nursery rug (default is Ikea).
(We have a similar leather ottoman! Got it off onekingslane or hautelook I think in gray, and I love it)
@silva - the craigslist-searching continues! I just got an arm's reach co-sleeper this weekend, and I'll be picking up a changing table after work this week from someone else.
My top is a combo maternity/nursing top from Japanese Weekend. I love that brand! I got that shirt on sale at their (only) retail store while I was in San Francisco. The only problem is it's expensive.
My outfits are on serious rotation, and I do have to stop myself from buying anything else since I only have 2.5 mo left!
@jaguar - another amazing top! I love your lacy bump

Have any of you guys taken any childbirth classes? I attended my first last week (part of 4-week series), which was offered by Lenox Hill Hospital here in NY (it's where my OB delivers). They covered some interesting topics (breastfeeding, prep for admission to the hospital, mental/psychological prep for the baby). There's another class offered by another company that more specifically covers things like Lamaze, details on alternative pain management strategies, that my hospital childbirth class doesn't cover. To be honest, I'm sure it'll be fine - I can look stuff up online or on YouTube, probably, and don't need to shell out any more money.
So I went over to the hospital on a tour yesterday, and I found out that a private room is almost $700/night. !!!!!!!! Jebus. I should be staying at the Mandarin Oriental for those rates. It's just a plain-ol hospital room, for goodness sakes.
My coworkers and galfriends are all telling me to spring for it, since the last thing I'm going to want to deal with after birth is a roommate, her baby and steady stream of visitors. And the shared room (which is covered completely by insurance) is so small!! But that would mean I'd be paying $1,400 for 2 nights. It would kill me to pay that.
There's another room at the hospital that's over $1500/night (the VIP suite). That's probably where Beyonce stayed when she delivered. This is the ridiculousness that happens when you live in NYC. Le sigh.
Am meeting the other doctor in my OB's practice this week, so hope that I'll like her!
Attaching a photo of bumpage at 29 weeks!

@nycbee: Damn, that's expensive!!!! I'm hoping we'll get a private room, but it's never a guarantee - just luck of the draw. NYC is expensive, man. Crazypants.
You look fab, btw!
We have our second (of six weeks!) hospital class tomorrow - birthing and labouring for 2 more weeks, then 3 weeks of early parenting. I am loving it!

@jaguar: just checking in with my sporadic lurking on this thread and had to let you know that you have the absolute BEST pregnancy glow I have ever seen! Seriously, you epitomize the word 'radiant' and I'm so excited you're almost in the single digits for weekly countdown!

@nycbee: thanks, mama! Here's the link to the rug. It's super plush and was a great deal! http://www.wayfair.com/Safavieh-California-Shag-Ivory-Rug-SG151-1212-FV17086.html
I love one kings lane (addicted) and I also scored a mini arm's reach on CL for $50! I also got a mamaroo swing and baby bjorn bouncer in CL for suuuuper cheap. It's the best and I hope you score some more great finds too!

whoa, that's crazy @nycbee! Nuts! Our hospitals all have private rooms; I'd never even considered paying out of pocket for one! What a scam to just get more money from moms
We are taking a childbirth class Sunday. It's all online and it's free, so yay. My nurse practitioner said most of the ones in the hospital just scare you, anyways, cost you $100, and you forget everything when you're in labor. We hired a doula, anyways, so I'm like....yes to the quick online class please

@Ree723: REE! Omgosh... I am SO happy you posted. I've been thinking about you lots lately. How are you going?? Thank you for the kind words, lady. xxx
@blackbird: Love the idea of doing it online. I'm liking the classes as it's a good way to make the whole 'hospital' thing less scary for us - both of us are pretty healthy & don't tend to be in hospitals much, so it's taking some of that unknown away.
@autumnlove: Aw! Thank you!

@jaguar, the classes at our hospital are offered Tuesdays and saturdays and DH has grad school so we were definitely out of options! Itll be easier to do it on a Sunday morning ;p
Does anyone have stretch marks yet? I had a few pop up this week (33) Sad panda

My best friend is a home birth midwife- so she is going to be a sort of doula / labor support for us & she is giving us a couple private "classes." We had the first one this week, and just went over the stages of labor, and our plans and intentions for labor if everything goes smoothly. Also talked about the "what-ifs."
We have another one with her in a week and a half. We've both read a couple books (Bradley Method & The Birth Partner, and I read Ina May)- mostly to learn strategies for coping with pain.
We are taking a couple's yoga for childbirth class on March 1st that I'm really looking forward to. I've loved prenatal yoga, and can't wait to drag my husband along!
The only other class we're doing is a breastfeeding class. I am contemplating infant CPR...
baby has flipped around and is posterior now, but I'm trying not to freak out because I know it has PLENTY of time to rotate again, and its still head down which is good.
I had a terrible stomach bug yesterday and today that had me on the couch / in bed for hours. I'm starting to feel slightly more human tonight, so I'll probably head back to work tomorrow. UGH- I can't wait to be done work!!!!

@blackbird: Oh, the stretchmarks! I basically have a tree of stretch marks on the each side of my tummy going from my panty line up to my belly button. So, so attractive.

Does anyone else have the silly fear that they'll go into preterm labour and not know it? I feel like a nutjob but that's seriously what I worry about at the moment.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@sslm: Yeah, I feel pretty lucky. I totally know what you mean about that fear- with this illness I kept having stomach cramping, too- & I remembered that often labor starts with a sort of "clearing of the bowels"- so I was a bit freaked out.
At this point I'm trying to make my mantra - "Everything is probably going to be okay." I realize that doesn't sound very positive, but I spent most of the first 3/4 of this pregnancy convinced that something was going to go wrong. Maybe you can think of some reassuring words and repeat them to yourself when you are feeling anxious?
You look great! & You are going to get to meet your baby so soon!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@mrsblue, I would have been utterly shocked if you didn't, with twins and all! I was just hoping that since my mom never got them, I wouldn't...but dammit if I don't have them. They look so ANGRY in the evening, but not so bad in the mornings.
I'm at almost 34 weeks now and I'm not concerned with pre-term labor. Shit, i haven't even had braxton-hicks contractions. Once you hit the 33 week mark, you kind of hit that magical point where babies have almost no issues if they come this early. So you guys are all almost there!!!!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@sslm: Definitely! Especially because I heard that really early pre-term labor contractions aren't very painful, so it can be harder to tell. I think at this point, though, we would know a real contraction. I've had a few that are definitely different than just my normal BHs, but I've never had 6 contractions in an hour, which is my OBs "call me if . . ." amount. Also, as awful as this may sound, I know that if they are born now, they'll be in NICU but are unlikely to have any long term problems. My high risk doctor has said before that if any twin problems developed after 32 weeks, he'd rather take the babies and let them have a few weeks in NICU than risk any further harm in utero, so that makes me feel better about the risks if they were to come early.
@Silva: Hahaha...Every time anything is a little "loose" I immediately start analyzing whether I'm about to go into labor! Glad to know I'm not the only one that has thought this. Hope you feel better soon!
@blackbird: Yeah, they call it "Twin Skin." Thanks for that, babies. Not that I was busting out my tummy much before, but it's definitely going to need to stay under wraps after this pregnancy! Maybe yours won't get too bad and will lighten up quickly post-partum.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@Silva: I've measured ahead pretty regularly. At 26 weeks I measured at 30 weeks (midwife said that this is quite common when baby has a growth spurt), but by 30 weeks I only measured two weeks ahead, which is within the normal range. My midwife also told me that often tall women (I'm 5'10") measure ahead simply because our torsos are longer and therefore the uterus has more room to grow.
@nycbee: $700! Holy crap! I think for us, the cost to upgrade from semi-private to private for a postpartum room is something like $60/night!
We took a prenatal class this past weekend that was run by a doula/L.C. It was quite intensive (Saturday and Sunday from 9-4) but I can't recommend it enough. It focused on unmedicated birth and used the Lamaze philosophy to inform its content. We also spent a good amount of time on breastfeeding and infant care. It was great to get the opportunity to do hands-on exercises with our partners that allowed us to practice pain management techniques and comfort measures. I highly recommend it.
@blackbird: I had a small (maybe an inch long) stretch mark on my lower abdomen from puberty. It has gotten a little bigger and is red on either end. I also have some small red stretch marks on my hips. Nothing else on my belly........yet.
@Silva: How lucky to have a friend who has expertise in labour support! Hopefully baby will flip back to anterior soon - there is still lots of time. I have no idea what position my baby is in...no one has been able to tell so far. I hope that he/she is at least head down by now!
@sslm: Haven't had any concerns about preterm labour...yet. Like @blackbird, I haven't even had any BH contractions yet, so preterm hasn't really crossed my mind yet. I'm sure your little one will keep baking until he/she is ready
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@blackbird: I had one lonely red welt of a stretch mark - which over the last week has turned into about SIX, all big red and ugly. I'm wearing 'em with pride, though. No bare belly shots for me!
@Silva: Definitely plenty of time to move around. Hope you are feeling better soon.
@Ree723: Thanks hon! xx
@sslm: I asked this exact question (pre-term labour) to our midwife at the hospital class this week. I've been crampy and back achey for most of this pregnancy.... so how will I know, since those are two big signs of very early labour? Hrm. No idea.
@hergreenapples: I love partners being involved in these classes -- we have been learning SO much. It's great!
I'm so far behind some of you guys... still only 30+4 here. I can't WAIT to be closer to term.
cantaloupe / 6397 posts
@Silva: that makes sense. I'll try to tell myself that one too. I've been worried about one thing or another this entire pregnancy. It's like I have a hard time believing this is actually going to result in a baby this time... Even as I sit here at 32 weeks!
@blackbird: lucky! I've had BH since around 25 weeks. Mostly when I do any kind of physical activity.
@Mrs. Blue: yeah my midwife told me if they seemed to be coming and going in a pattern that would be time to call. But then I worry I won't recognize a pattern!!! And I wonder if some of my cramps are actually just digestive. I'm a mess basically. Lol.
@hergreenapples: thanks
@jaguar: I guess I should maybe file these thoughts in unlikely to happen and try not to think about it. My sister is convinced I will definitely know of I'm in labour...

So, I think I posted somewhere up-thread about how a week ago I felt some crazy movement in the middle of the night and by the next day the shape of my belly had changed. Well, I had my 32 week midwife appointment yesterday and it turns out that yes, what I felt was definitely the baby flipping..........from head-down to breech. EEK!
My midwife isn't too concerned at the moment (15% of babies are breech at 32 weeks while only 3% remain breech by the time labour starts) and talked about a ton of alternative options for getting the baby to flip. I have an appointment already set up for next week with a chiropractor who specializes in this very thing, and I am very hopeful that that or a combination of tactics will do the trick. Please send good baby-flipping vibes my way!
If the baby is still breech by 35/36 weeks I'll be sent for an ultrasound to confirm and we will then start exploring other options such as an external version. Luckily I live somewhere where c-section isn't the automatic choice for breech babies, but I figure whatever needs to happen for this baby to get here is what we will do.
On a more fun note, I remembered this morning that last year on Valentine's Day DH and I were on an incredible day trip in Mexico - swimming in lagoons full of tropical fish, snorkelling in the open sea while sea turtles swam right below us, zip-lining into hidden cenotes and finishing the day with a beautiful cruise. What a difference a year makes! Happy Valentine's Day to all

@mrsblue, “twin skin”, ugh! Who knew!
@hergreenapples, I had no idea that was the case for tall women! I did read that we tend to grow out forward versus wide, and when I see myself in the mirror, that is definitely the case. Oh and that we tend to have longer babies, which I sort of figured. Judging by your photo, you and your DH are just about the same height we are! I hope the baby flips! My doc also told me that they flip around pretty regularly and 36 weeks is when they would consider you breech, so I think you have some time! Baby still has a month to flop back into place. And you’ll probably know it now that you felt some weird movements. I have a scan next Friday and I’m anxious to know how mine’s oriented, too. Sometimes i feel this hard spot next to my belly button and I think it's either a butt or a head getting stretched out. I hope it's a butt, though, haha.
I also have a few scars on my stomach from past laparoscopic surgeries and they look so mean and stretched out! Those are all red but my stretch marks are kind of purple. Not pretty! Hopefully they fade. I'll be religious with the Vitamin E oil after the baby comes.
You’ll get there, @Jaguar! You’re so close! I think cramps and aches are par for the course, ha. I can definitely feel a growth spurt now!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@hergreenapples: Forgot to mention on your other thread, that my doula said to get on all fours for 15 minutes in the morning and evening because that makes more room for the baby to flip back over. I'm going to try it--worth a shot, right?

Baby girl is lumpy and bumpy today. I woke up with her butt (at least, I THINK it was her butt) poking out of my right side, all wonky and lopsided for a bit. Hilarious!
