April 2013 Mamas!

@mountainmama: I start my 6th week on Tuesday and the only symptoms I have are sensitive nipples, moodiness, bloating and diarrhea( which I found is quite common in the first trimester) oh and I'm more sleepy.
Don't stress yourself out. It's not that common to miscarry.
You should enjoy this early time before the discomforts come in.
And my first dr appt isn't until the 14th too.

I had more symptoms week 6 than I did week 8, if that helps. And both times I miscarried, lack of symptoms wasn't a sign-there were other giant red flags like major cramping and bleeding, so if either of those show up, you should call your doctor. They should be able to get you in for an earlier scan.

But I disagree with crisark-miscarriages ARE very common, in fact, most women are surprised by how common they are, after the fact. They affect at least 20% of known pregnancies and nearly 90% of women in their lifetime. But again, they tend to come with red flags most of the time.

I am sooo tired but I'm not sure if it from bring pregnant or from chasing my LO. My appetite is CRAZY...I woke up at 4am and devoured some pasta leftovers from last night!

I'm six weeks exactly today - YES! Ultrasound is booked for 7+1, so I have to wait until next week. I'm so impatient.

Been feeling miserable, mainly because of this cold and the constant backaches. Had some big cramping last night, enough to send me running for the loo - no bleeding or spotting, though. I haven't had any vomiting (a tiny bit of nausea though) and my boobs don't hurt. So, not much for me yet either.

    @jaguar: I'm impatient too...my OB appointment is on 9/17!

@blackbird: I agree, not to freak anyone out but the statistic is 1 in every 4 pregnancies result in miscarriage, they are actually pretty common.

I had a tiny spot of brown on my underwear today so I am now in full fledged panic mode. I'm going to try to move my ultrasound up from Friday to any earlier day.

@sslm: I had that too. Brown is actually old blood being flushed out. I know it's easy to panic, but try to just breathe and take it easy on your self.

  9. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

Brown's not the color to worry too much about, sslm! It's that really red menstrual color that's bad. And something like 50% of women get a little first trimester bleeding, I think?

I'm a statistics person, if you can't tell.

I've been freaking out about the cramps. I keep checking my knickers for spotting, but nothing yet.

  11. blackbird

cramping is normal, though...it's your uterus expanding. I notice when I sneeze, i can feel it really badly! Like I've got stitches being pulled at or something in my lower stomach

Thanks guys. Haven't had any more spotting at all. I was able to move my ultrasound up to today though!!! Only 4 more hours. Cross your fingers for me, I'm so nervous.

    @blackbird: Sneezing is the worst!!!
@jaguar: So exciting to see you on these boards!!

Just popping in from the March board- my due date got changed to March 31st- so I think I can go either way- late March or early April! Thought I would float between both boards!

@sslm: Thinking of you! I'm nervous all the time too! I thought being pregnant the second time would make me more relaxed but NOPE!

@sslm: I wish you twins! Hope everything goes perfectly at the u/s! Can't wait to hear all about it.

@jaguar: Don't worry about the cramping too much, unless it's accompanied by bleeding. That was one of my primary symptoms the first few weeks. It just means baby and uterus are growin like they should!

Now, that I've had some time to adjust and posted on the blog, I can tell you guys how crazy our u/s was! When she said we were having twins, it was the single biggest shock of my life! But both babies are about equal in size (a really good thing when watching for twin-to-twin transfions syndrome). One's heart beat was 168 and the other was 156-both in a healthy range for this early. The only scary part was that the type of twins they are made us a high risk pregnancy and they have to be monitored for TTTS. All in all, a great appointment and we are psyched!

@Mrs. Blue: soooo exciting! do you want to find out the genders?

    @Mrs. Blue: So exciting!!!!!

  19. Crisark

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

@blackbird: I think what I meant to write was that they aren't as common without symptoms. I actually suffered a miscarriage at the age of 18 before I even knew I was pregnant.
It's not as likely to be a 'missed' as it is to know something is wrong.
But, the main point was worrying about something you can't control isn't going to do any good whatsoever.

    Mrs. Blue- congrats!

re: the worrying. I know there is nothing I can do, and worrying simply makes this time more uncomfortable. And I know the statistics regarding miscarriage, and that I have no current symptoms that suggest anything is wrong. But acknowledging all of that fact doesn't remove the feelings from the equation. I was thinking last night that it feels like a part of the integration process- integrating this idea of having another person living in me, of my body no longer being just my own, maybe the worry is a part of that process, you know? Like- "well, maybe this isn't real" or even in some way, a hesitation to accept that loss of my former, single, self.

I've been thinking about it a lot on runs because I've already noticed a change in my breathing (I become winded much more quickly, and move slower, occasionally even walking briefly)- that integration includes a small sense of loss mixed in with the joy.
Anyway- just some things I've been thinking about. Sorry for all the heavy thoughts.

@mountainmama: Don't apologize for how you are feeling!!
I can relate. This is my third pregnancy and I'm still so terrified that it's not true that I'm still POAS at 6 weeks along and no signs to prove otherwise.
I can totally feel you. I'm also more winded and I thought it was just me...glad to know it's not lol
I can't remember all the specifics of my first pregnancy but I can remember similar emotions.
You should try to embrace all your feelings as they are perfectly normal and yours to have.

@Crisark: Absolutely more winded! I notice it just walking up hills / stairs, which never happened before.

    Thanks for the support

And as if on Que...I just had some spotting and am now having to get blood work done today and then again Wed to make sure my levels are increasing as they are supposed to.
It was very light and only the one time so far but I am now a complete mess.

  25. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

oh no, sending good thoughts your way!!! Can they take a peek with an ultrasound? If you're 6 weeks, they should be able to see something!!!

@Crisark: hopefully, it's just normal spotting! Sending good thoughts your way! Keep us posted.

I've been MIA for the past 10 days, but I'm back We were on vacation at a remote cottage up north with ZERO internet/phone service. This turned out to be a great thing for me though, and I'm feeling a lot less anxious now.

..Or at least I was feeling a lot less anxious until late this morning when I went to the bathroom and discovered some faint pink spotting when I wiped. According to FF, if I weren't pregnant, I would be starting AF today. I'm hoping that the spotting is just some breakthrough bleeding, which apparently many women get while pregnant at the time their period would have come. It seems to have mostly stopped. I'm just planning to keep an eye on it and will call my doctor if anything worsens. I have an appointment on Wednesday anyway. Fingers crossed that it is nothing. I have no cramping and all my other symptoms (fatigue, nausea, sore boobs etc.) are still going strong.

@Mrs. Blue: TWINS! Oh my goodness! How exciting. Double congratulations to you. I guess perhaps that could explain the terrible m/s you'd described.

@Crisark: Thinking good thoughts for you and hoping it's just "normal" first tri spotting.

@sslm: Hope all goes well with your u/s. Please keep us updated. I'm sure your baby is strong, healthy and growing

  28. Crisark

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

@blackbird: @Mrs. Blue: Thanks. And they said at 6weeks they would see a sac but not necessarily a heart beat yet. So, I'm going in to have my levels checked today and then again Wed morning and should have the results Wed afternoon.
It only happened the one time so far and (TMI) it was also after I strained a little for a bowel movement and I've been having issues with that as well. So, it could be that and nothing else. Just have to wait and see.

  29. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@autumnlove: Yes, we definitely will find out! Since the babies are identical, we'll be having two girls or two boys, and I want to be as prepared as possible before the chaos of two newborns hits!

That's a good question for the whole group. Is everyone planning on finding out or do we have some team green peeps here?

  30. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Crisark: I TOTALLY relate to that issue! Such a pain-literally.

  31. Crisark

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

@Mrs. Blue: lol yeah it is. I'm just trying to hold hope that that's all it is or that it's 'normal' first trimester bleeding. Although until my recent googling I wasn't aware it was even normal.
I'm thankful that at this point it's not red or even enough to go on a liner. It was only light pink and when I wiped. Hoping that's all promising.

  32. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@Crisark: thinking good thoughts for you- it must be so scary, but hopefully all will be well.

@Mrs. Blue: we are not planning to find out the baby's sex. Honestly, the biggest reason why is that I do not want to end up with a ton of pink frilly stuff or a ton of cars & sports stuff. We'd just rather stick with the gender-neutral options. I'm terrible at keeping secrets, so although we talked about finding out but not telling anyone (to make name choices easier), it probably wouldn't work. I think it will be exciting to find out when the baby is born.

  33. sslm

@Crisark: hopefully it's just the normal stuff! My sister had spotting and everything worked out!!

@hergreenapples: Everything I've read has said spotting with no cramps or any other issues is probably normal. I hope you get some reassurance on Wednesday!!

I'm back from my ultrasound and it went great!!!!!! Baby is measuring 7w6d, only 1 day off of what I thought, so I'm going to stick with April 8th Heartbeat was 167! Now I can relax a tiny bit, but I haven't felt that wave of calm I was expecting yet...

  36. sslm

    cantaloupe / 6397 posts

@Crisark: oh and the BM thing is definitely a possible cause!! I used to have that before I was pregnant. Especially since it was just once

  37. Crisark

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

@sslm: So glad your appt went well!!
And thanks! I'm more and more confident that may have been the reason but I'm def having the blood work done to make sure.

  38. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@sslm: so glad everything was good!! Our heartbeats were right around that, too. Doesn't it feel so nice to know that everything is going like it should!?! It took me a couple days to feel the relief since I was freaking out about twins, but now I am loving not thinking, "What if there's no heartbeat?" I still have a few worries, but overall I feel much more relaxed post-ultrasound.

@Crisark Try to stay positive! I had to have blood work done to check my levels after I was measuring behind. The 2 day wait was an emotionally draining but everything was fine.

@Mrs Blue We're finding out. I'd be ok with team green but my husband REALLY wants to know

@Mountainmama maybe finding out and not telling anyone would be a good compromise for us. I don't know that I wouldn't accidentally slip though!

@Mrs. Blue: Congrats on the twins! I knew it was you!!!! Glad to hear they're measuring the same and have strong heart beats!!
