They won't give you an us at 6 weeks?! Boo! I've already had 3, actually! One at about 5.5 weeks, one at 6.5 weeks, and this one. Although all they saw the first time was the sac and pole
As far a that ginger tea goes, i add lemon juice and honey and it becomes my favorite sick tea

@blackbird: She said because I am so early they wouldn't be able to see more than a sac so it wouldn't be worth our time since the bleeding isn't constant or severe. It was just pink twinge when I wiped the one time.
So we are starting with checking my levels and if that's good and the spotting/bleeding stays away then we just carry on.

@blackbird: glad everything is okay!
Oy- the past few days have been rough- I took a two hour nap on Sunday, and still was asleep by 9pm. I slept for twelve hours, and then still felt like I needed a nap all day on Monday. (I don't work on Mondays). I also had some pretty uncomfortable diarrhea (sorry, TMI)
Today, after 10 hours of sleep, I ended up leaving work 2 hours early because my whole body is just achy. I feel like I have the flu. I also had some waves of nausea today, which is new but honestly felt more connected to how tired I was than anything else. Plus my pants were tight all day and I feel FAT!
Waiting for my husband to come home and play me the tiniest violin ever. Sorry for whining here, but I feel like if I whine anywhere else I will just alienate people Probably alienating people here, too, but at least you guys can empathize!

@mountainmama: I'm sorry you're feeling so crappy The exhaustion really is all- consuming, isn't it?
Are you ladies keeping up with workouts? DH and I did some long hikes and some canoeing last week, but the prospect of going back to the gym this week is killing me. I'm heading there now, but almost talked myself out of it. I just want to lay down. The only thing motivating me to go is my concern that I'm fat now
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@mountainmama it's ok to whine. We totally understand.
@hergreenapples: I've been trying to keep up with exercise, but between the exhaustion, and how easy it is for me to get short of breath, it's getting tough.
I went on a long walk yesterday and forgot my water bottle and by the time I got home I was feeling awful. Just taking it easy today.

@hergreenapples: @aprk:
I've been doing alright. I work 4, 10-hour days so usually I can get a 3 or 4 mile run in on 2 out of 3 of my weekend days. I try to get another run in on Thursday mornings, when I don't have to be at work until 10:00. I cannot imagine trying to exercise after work though.
I got for a one-mile walk after lunch most days at work. It actually helps get me through the afternoons (most days).
I've been doing a yoga dvd once or twice a week, but I"d really like to improve to three times a week.

@hergreenapples: Lately I'm so exhausted but I try to workout at least 4 times per week. I like to do the elliptical and stationary bike. Sometimes I'll go for a morning jog. It helps to workout so I don't feel so bloated and tired!

@hergreenapples, I'm still Crossfitting 3 days a week and playing softball one day a week. Kind of an over achiever, I guess, haha. Weeks 6/7 were the most tiring for me, so I cut some of the reps and dropped the weights down to maybe 60, 70 pounds. When I get winded, I step aside and take a few breaths. I'm not following the 150 bpm rule.
I just don't feel like myself unless I'm active. I just can't bring myself to lay on the couch!

Y'all make me feel terrible. I'm doing good to go on a walk in the evening and maybe a yoga class on the weekend. I'm so impressed with you guys.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@aprk: I know. I consider myself fairly fit, but the sudden lack of fitness is weird and annoying. I seem to get winded a lot easier too.
@mountainmama: Good for you! 10 hours shifts must be BRUTAL right now though
@serendipity: I hear you. I found that on the days we hiked last week it also really helped stave off the nausea.
@blackbird: I'm also trying to CF 3x a week. This week is a fail already - I skipped yesterday's workout because of my minor spotting scare. I went tonight and am going again Thursday though I also try to fit in a couple 5k walks/week. I'm not observing the 150 bpm thing either. I am trying to use the talk test though so that I don't get too out of breath. Have you been reading crossfitmom.com? It's a great resource. I do feel funny about lifting too heavy, but I think maybe I've dialed back too much. We were front squatting tonight and I started with 95#, but did one rep and then dialed back to 75#! It's hard to know what's the right weight vs. what's too heavy or too light.
@Mrs. Blue: Walking is so good for you! Hang in there...you have all those extra baby hormones floating around. I'm really hopeful that we'll all start to feel better in the second tri
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I have been reading crossfit mom! And my coach was pregnant last year so I'm doing 50% of my one rep maxes. I go heavy but not strain-heavy. And I am doing the talk test too. Monday we did thrusters and I went up to 115, but I could've gone heavier, so I'm just playing it safe by not going so heavy that I struggle with the weight. I find the cardio is more what I'm scaling on. And for some things, I'll do a lighter weight, but I'll do 3 reps instead of the one. I ask my coach for a lot of guidance since she's been there done that. I also took yesterday and today off because I spotted that little bit yesterday, but I'll go back Thursday. I don't think the weights caused my spotting because it was 18+ hours after
I do get winded faster, too, which is normal in the first trimester. Your heart rate will get up there much quicker, too. It's a weird feeling to have something so simple make you out of breath!
Blue. I'm pretty sure twins would make it impossible to exercise much. Double the fatigue and sickness? No thanks.
cherry / 141 posts
@blackbird, @mountainmama. @serendipity, @aprk @hergreenapples YOU go girls!
@MrsBlue don't feel bad, I was running about 30 miles a week until week 5/6 and morning sickness came along and that came to a screeching halt. Since then I've walked maybe twice? I'm hoping that when I get out of the first trimester and m/s goes away I can be a little more consistent with exercise. honestly I feel like it's all I can do to show up to work presentable and not puke for 8 hours. I had every intention of exercising regularly but the reality is my body is not up to it right now.

Ok, does anyone get hungry AFTER you get in bed? LOL!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@autumnlove: Yes! I've been having a glass of warm milk and a slice of toast before bed, which seems to help. But the nausea still starts again around 5:00 a.m.

I am so frustrated! I've called the dr office twice today to get my final results and have been told they are in but the dr hasn't reviewed them so they can't tell me.
The nurse that answered the first time could tell I was upset and asked if I was looking for an increase and I said yes and she hesitated and said "There was some increase" but wouldn't tell me anymore and I could tell she wasn't even supposed to tell me that. I'm guess an increase at all is really all we are looking for but I just want the damn number and it's making me so mad that no one can look at my file and call me. UGH rant over lol
I'll be calling again tomorrow that's for sure.

Hi all!
6 weeks, 3 days. Counting them down.
I had to book in my NT down's syndrome ultrasound today - super early, since the clinic books out. Which means.. 3 ultrasounds booked in for our blob.
7 week - next Tuesday (OMG SO EXCITED)
10 week - first OB visit
12 week - NT scan
I am still desperately praying that my little bean has a heartbeat and looks okay. This is agonising.

Good morning, ladies!
I had my second doctor's appointment yesterday. It was supposed to be a physical, but a couple hours before my appointment I managed to slice my left big toe open pretty badly and thought I might need a stitch or two (I didn't - thank goodness), so the appointment ended up dealing more with that. I've rebooked the physical for a month from now and I liked my doctor a lot more this time than last. She was even super understanding when I told her I wanted to decline a pelvic exam at this point in my pregnancy.
While I was there, she told me that she'd just sent in the paperwork for my dating u/s, which I didn't know I was getting. Once she realized that I would be going for my NT scan just a couple weeks after the dating u/s though she kind of talked herself out of it. I'm totally fine with it. I know I complained up-thread about not getting an u/s until 11 or 12 weeks, but I have to admit that I have made peace with it. If this baby is meant to stick, it will stick regardless of how many u/s we get. I think, for Type A me, this is an important lesson in faith: faith in my body, faith in my baby and faith in God's/the universe's plan for me.
How's everyone feeling this morning? I had some oatmeal for breakfast and am actually feeling pretty good (albeit exhausted, as per usual)!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@hergreenapples: Can I ask why you are declining the pelvic exam? I feel like I know so little about all the tests/exams that they do, and don't want to just say yes to everything!
I had intended to get up at 7 to go running this morning (don't have to be at work until 10), but ended up sleeping until 8:30. It felt great, but then I went to get dressed and remembered that I have ONE pair of pants that fits, and its the pair that used to be too big....so now I just feel pretty huge and lazy.

@mountainmama: Yeah, of course. My concerns were mainly in relation to pap smears. It's my understanding that, during pregnancy, the cervical tissue is constantly changing and, as a result, there is a much higher incidence of false-positives on pap smears. Further, even if something did come back as truly abnormal, one wouldn't actually undergo any interventions until the post-partum period. So, I just don't think it's worth the anxiety that it could cause when there wouldn't even be anything to be done about it for the next 8 months. Beyond that, our guidelines in Canada now state that women only need to have paps every three years, so long as they have had two or more normal paps in a row. I've been getting them for 12 years and have never had an abnormal result. My last one was just a year ago, so I don't see the need to do one again.
In terms of the rest of the exam, in all honesty, it may sound stupid, but I just feel, instinctively, very protective of the whole area right now and don't feel like anyone or anything needs to be touching me there at the moment.
I'm not at all espousing this to be the answer for everyone, it's just how I personally feel, and I was so happy that my doctor was so respectful of it.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@hergreenapples: I think that makes a lot of sense. I had an exam less than a month before we conceived, and like you, I've never had an abnormal pap (going every other year at this point). I'll make sure to talk to my doctor about it when we go in. Thanks for sharing!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Hm i didn't know that. I get my annuals in August, so she did mine while i was there a couple weeks ago. I've never have an abnormal, though (but i'm in the US). They aren't fun, anyways
Have you had an u/s yet? They're kind of, ahem, invasive Although at 12 weeks i'm not sure it'd have to be transvaginal, which will be nice. I'm not a fan of that.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@blackbird: haha! Invasive. That's accurate. I thought it was awk.ward.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@blackbird: Yeah, I've had a trans-vaginal ultrasound in the past, so I am familiar. Not the most pleasant, but at least it's blunt as opposed to the brush-like swab they use for a pap.
I'm not going for my NT scan until September 24. I'll be 11w6d, so they shouldn't need to do it trans-vaginally. Just picked up the paperwork for it from my doctor's office!

Finally heard back from the dr and my numbers increased from the 3k mark to 5k which is great. They actually called me in for an ultrasound this morning and we were able to see the Sac and everything looked perfect around it. Dr thinks I am not as far as I thought,.....maybe 4 to 5 weeks instead of 6 plus weeks,
We go back on 9/18 for another u/s where we should be able to get a heart beat and an accurate due date and then meet with the dr.
I am so relieved that everything looks so good right now. It's the best looking sac ever as far as I'm concerned lol

@blackbird: @autumnlove: @Mrs. Blue: @hergreenapples: Thank you!!! I'm grinning ear to ear right now. Who would have thought seeing a tiny, black and white empty circle would make you so relieved lol I'll be beside myself in two weeks when it's big enough to see a heart beat and fetal pole!!

My m/s seems to have subsided over the past two days. I still felt nauseated when I got up this morning, but have felt better since breakfast. Whereas prior to yesterday I pretty much had "all day sickness" every day for the past two-ish weeks.
My boobs are still sore, I'm still exhausted and I'm an emotional mess (I watched a movie last night that I've seen before and that I don't think is really even a sad movie. I didn't cry the first time I saw it. Last night, I sobbed throughout the whole thing!). So, I'm not really worried, but I am curious if anyone else has experienced an improvement in m/s around the 8.5 week mark?
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@hergreenapples: That's great news! I hope it'a really gone for good! I'm 9 weeks today and I've had one day this week that I didn't throw up. So mine is still going strong, but I have high hopes for the next few weeks!
Is anyone else SUPER excited about the long weekend? I am so excited to have three days to sleep!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@Mrs. Blue: I ended up turning my 3-day weekend (which I usually have- I work a 4, 10-hour day schedule) into a 4-day weekend. I had an awful day at work yesterday, and was so angry and stressed that I was in tears for hours and couldn't sleep. My grandfather (who has been struggling for a long time, so it feels like more of a relief, honestly) also passed away last night. I went in for a few hours to manage a few clients' issues, but then came home and have been lazy all day.
I'm glad I made this choice- usually I would feel guilty about cancelling sessions, but the pregnancy makes me feel much more justified in prioritizing my self care.
I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend planned - we're doing a hike tomorrow, and I have a dinner date with some old friends on Sunday.

@Crisark: sooooo happy for you!
@mountainmama: Oh hon, I'm so sorry about your grandfather. I hope you two have a lovely hike this weekend and get lots of rest.
We're kicking off the long weekend with a dinner at our favorite spanish restaurant (um hello paella!!) with one of our very best friends. I'm sad I can't have the sangria, but I'm thrilled for the food!
Today my pants felt exceptionally snug, so I'm going to try and drink through some of my hunger episodes....I did that today and no more cravings. Then an hour later I had a bowl of noodles. Oopsie!
6 more days until our first u/s...yay!
Wishing you April mamas a glorious, nausea free, long weekend!
