    @Dandelion: yay for another Kate!

    @PEAPIE: congrats!

    @sweetkeight: So glad your appointment went well.

    I had to go back to work today and came home pooped. This needing a nap everyday thing is new for me. Other then that I haven't really had any symptoms yet beyond some slight cramping. It makes it hard to believe I'm pregnant.

    Thanks for your sweet welcomes ladies!

    Total Newbie Question: So I called to make my first appointment today and they like to see new patients at 9-10 weeks (SO LONG TO WAIT). I see a lot of talk about betas and other levels being tested and I'm just wondering, should I be doing that? Is that something you seek out?

    Also, the scheduler on the phone asked me for my LMP date to see how far along I am. So she said I was 5w1d, but I told her that I know when I ovulated and know I'm only 4w3d. She's still sticking to the 5w1d so it's like I'm getting a BONUS week! Haha! So my first appointment is September 16th. Again, so far away!!!!

    Hang in there tired and bloated ladies. Hugs!

    I wasn't sure if I wanted to comment on this conversation for fear I would sound like I'm bragging lol but I feel like a pretty lucky girl after reading your guys' posts about symptoms! I don't really have anything major to speak of...yet at least. My boobs are a little sore and I feel a little extra tired, but no MS or cravings/aversions and I don't feel extra hungry or bloated either. I thought I was going to have constipation, but that seems to have worked itself out. I do, however, feel like crying or lashing out irrationally at random times lol...pray for my husband. Hopefully my lack of symptoms keeps up, and my thoughts go out to you girls who are feeling crappy! Idk if I could put up with what you guys are going through! Definitely troopers!!!

    @CharityAnne: You can pray for my husband too. poor guy (and my dog) both got dragged through the mud when I got home unfortunately. Irrational pregnant woman. I feel bad because my apology isn't enough but what's done is done.

    @PEAPIE: I have the same question. They took my blood for the pregnancy test but haven't done anything with my levels or betas or anything of that sort, so I am unsure what I should be looking forward to either.

    eggplant / 11408 posts

    @PEAPIE: yay for a first appointment! Make sure to stick it on the appointment thread!

    As far as betas/hcg levels go, I know that my office does them routinely, 48 hours apart, to check the level in your system and see how fast it is rising. If you call the office and ask to speak to a nurse, you can ask to have it done. I know some offices do, and some dont, but asking never hurts. In my case in particular, they have kept a close eye on it because of my other losses. I don't think they normally do that unless there is a reason to, though. They didn't with my second pregnancy.

    Also, even though your appointment is far away, don't feel like you can't reach out to them with questions or if you are worried. Even though I am convinced that I have to make my office crazy with all.of the questions I ask, to a person they all insist that answering questions is their job, and they want to hear from me whenever I need. Ok, if you insist...

    Yay for being an April mama! We are glad you are here!

    @megz06: I haven't even had a blood test! I think since I'm seeing midwives, they're way more laid back, maybe? They might not do all that testing? I dunno. I just want to know if I'm not doing something I should.

    persimmon / 1273 posts

    @peapie: my doctor's office required a blood test to confirm pregnancy before they'd even schedule the first appointment, but so far I'm 8 weeks on Wednesday and that's all I've done.

  14. PEAPIE

    apricot / 344 posts

    @LovelyPlum: Thank you for clearing that up! You're too sweet! I was secretly hoping I'd get to be an April mama with you.

    @CharityAnne: I'm so glad you feel well! Fortunately, mercifully, irrational emotional outbursts have been few and far between this time. Last time, not so much, and I can't say I miss them. Poor dh has enough to deal with trying to anticipate what will and won't make me sick...it pretty much changes hourly. Oy.

    @megz06: yeah, if I do lose my cool, it is with the pup for wanting to play when I want to nap. Poor thing. But we just had a good 44 minutes outside, so now she is sleeping and I get me time. Yay!

    FYI, and maybe someone else can tell me why this is, because I have no idea, betas are the hcg level in your system. So if you've had a blood draw to measure hcg levels, those are the beta numbers we are talking about. Fun fact I learned in April

    @gilmoregirl: aah, I can't believe you're 8 weeks already! I'm 7 today...it finally feels like it is going a bit faster!

    @PEAPIE: anytime, chica. And thanks. I'm glad you're here, too

  17. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

    Lol, 44 minutes? That has to be a typo...or else I was feeling rather precise with my timing

    @PEAPIE: A lot of us on here are pregnant after miscarriage, and I know my doctor has done more testing for that reason. And generally from what I've heard midwives tend to take the "pregnancy is a natural process" route and not do a lot of testing. I'd ask for tests if you need it for peace of mind, but otherwise don't worry! And every practice is different. Just look at the responses on what to expect from a first appointment on the appointments thread. I've never had a cervical check/pelvic with pregnancy, but some say they did.

    A lot don't do bloodwork because unfortunately if it is going down there isn't anything that can be done. Also, I learned that a blighted ovum could still show rising level even though there is no baby.

    @gilmoregirl: They are making me go in for a blood test to confirm pregnancy with my doctor before I get to make any appointments. How quickly we're you able to get results?

  21. PEAPIE

    apricot / 344 posts

    @Torchwood: Oh ok. Well since this is my first pregnancy, I'll just go by faith that everything is as it should be until I have reason to believe otherwise.

    I didn't realize there were other April 2014 threads! Obviously I haven't traveled much further than the POAS ones!

    I found out about a week ago, but I've been lurking... I can't stand it anymore so I'm jumping in!!

    Pregnant with #2, no idea when I ovulated because we were just messing around and not really "trying", but by LMP my DD is 4/19.
    I don't go into the Dr until September 20. Oy. I know it's #2 but geez. My doctors office makes you wait SO LONG to come in!!

    @PEAPIE: I haven't read the other responses yet but you can schedule an appointment with your regular gyno to confirm pregnancy and measure hcg / beta levels. I did this as my gyno doesn't practice obstetrics but oversees patients in the early stages of pregnancy before referring to an OB. I was only 17dpo or 4w3d pregnant but for some reason, she wanted to do a transvaginal ultrasound at my appointment confirming pregnancy. The ultrasound didn't show anything so she wanted to check my levels. My first draw came out to 1,029. I was scheduled to come in 4 days later for my second draw to see how I was progressing, but during the follow up appointment, we saw the gestational sac during a second transvaginal ultrasound so we knew things were progressing well enough not to take the second draw.

    FWIW, I would recommend avoiding the transvaginal ultrasound so early on, if you have any say. I had no idea I was getting one and couldn't really object. When we didn't see anything on the first ultrasound it made me worry for no reason even though it's completely normal not to see anything that early. Hope this helps!

    @Pink Champagne: Yay! Welcome!

    @SupernovaJ: Thanks for the info! Honestly, I probably won't go in for blood work until my first scheduled appt. Like I said, I'm not going to worry about it unless I have a better reason to worry (spotting/cramping/etc). I'm just going with the flow and trying to be patient until Sept 16th!

    @PEAPIE: Totally agree, that's the best route. Sometimes it's just better to not go to those doc appointments and avoid knowing more than you need to. It can cause unnecessary worry!

    Holy crap ya'll. Wore a pair of jeans today that normally fits and I was so uncomfortable all day from this bloatedness. I just tried on a pair of my maternity jeans, and omg I'm wearing them forever even if I'm not pregnant. It's really absurd to wear them at 4 weeks, but if I'm this bloated tomorrow, I am SO doing it.

    @Torchwood: I know what you mean about the "bloat". I am trying to wear all of my skinny clothes now, because I have a feeling in a week or two I won't be able to wear them anymore. Plus we are going to try to hide it from work for as long as possible.

    @Pink Champagne: Welcome and congrats on #2!

    @PEAPIE: Congrats to you!!! I agree waiting for that first appt is sooooooooo annoying but it will come soon! My first is on 9/12 and I am trying my hardest to not think about. But what happens when you tell someone not to think about something? Yea...

    @Torchwood: Total bloat central here. We are leaving for our first family cruise in two days with my family and friends - it's going to be hard to hide the bloat and the fact that I'm not drinking! Gah...

    @Kate6214: How soon can you get the blood test? I think the results should come in fairly quickly - either immediately or without a couple days max. Hoping you can get that appt soon!

    @Torchwood: Lol I hear ya! My pre-pregnancy pants aren't fitting anymore, especially my jeans. I have a pair of maternity pants, but haven't worn them, but when I tried them on it was like I slipped into a cloud from heaven!!

  38. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

    @Torchwood: the only reason my pre-pregnancy pants fit now is that I hadn't bothered to buy new ones yet after I lost 45 pounds earlier this year. But, most of my clothes are now in that awkward "too big in some places, too small in others" phase I was anticipating. I give myself until the Labor Day sales until I am almost entirely in maternity pants, just because all of the rest of my clothes look so awkward! In the meantime, I like sundresses.

    I'm having some spotting It's very light, only when I wipe, but my pelvis is a little sore. I called my OB office and I'm waiting on a nurse to call me back. I've been spotting a little here and there since Sunday, but I didn't feel alarmed until my pelvis started getting sore.

    It sucks...I hope they can get me in to check things out.

    @littleveesmommy: I hid not drinking with #1 by ordering drinks that looked like cocktails (ie, club soda with a like in a cocktail glass) or by ordering the same thing as DH. He would drink his and I would fake-drink and then we would switch when he was halfway so that no one would catch on. He did a lot of drinking for two in those early days!!
