@Dandelion: that is the sweetest. I seriously had to choke back some tears reading that. Pregnancy hormones are getting to me

@Dandelion: Yea! I bet you are so happy you don't have to hide things from him anymore!

@T.H.O.U.: Yeah it was really hard talking about it in code with DH. Luckily, DS is usually pretty oblivious, so it wasn't too hard.

@Dandelion: We are still thinking of waiting to tell people until after our NT scan in OCTOBER. I have no idea if I can wait that long, and I may not be able to phyiscally wait that long since I anticipate I will be showing a decent amount by 12 weeks.

@T.H.O.U.: I'm gonna let my mom tell my brothers this weekend...DH called his brother this afternoon. After that, all will be silent for a lot longer. Probably at least until the anatomy scan happens. Probably no facebook announcement, either, but I may get creative and change my mind on that one.

@lovelyplum Just realized you're due on my anniversary! Glad everything went well today.

@Dandelion: Your story about telling DS made me tear. So sweet! So happy that all is well with your little bean and it feels more real to you now Great update.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I've had like four people around me announce they are due in Feb/March. I am just still not ready to tell anyone!

@Dandelion: that is so sweet! What an awesome response from him
@T.H.O.U.: the only reason we have been able to keep this from my extended family is that we live out of town. I had my first "are you pregnant?" question from someone at work this week, so it is getting harder to hide. I think we may tell some people this week, because it is my grandma's birthday, and that is a great present. But I'm super nervous!!

@T.H.O.U.: We have told family and a few close friends, but I am enjoying keeping the secret from everyone else!

So we're officially out! Called extended family and I told my coworkers at a department meeting on Friday (my how word travels fast!!) Holy moley, it is starting to feel reaaaaal!
Anyone else out?!
watermelon / 14206 posts
I gave my mom the official green light to tell my brothers. I normally would tell them myself about stuff like this, but I feel so weird telling people right now, that I just asked her to say it.
I'm not telling extended family past that for a while, though.

@T.H.O.U.: I've had a lot of announcements around me lately too! We've just told immediate family and our DDs godfather yesterday. We will probably go public when I start more visibly showing - 15 weeks about (wont announce on social media until then).
persimmon / 1361 posts
@HazelEyes: I'm out, mostly. I told my family a couple weeks ago at 9 weeks. I actually went ahead and told my boss this past week (11 weeks now) I knew he'd be great about it (he was) and its easier to go ahead and block my schedule as soon as possible. I haven't really told a lot of friends or Facebook, but I waited until like 20 weeks to do the Facebook announcement last time so I'll hold off on that.
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend! It's been beautiful here!

I think I'm getting a bump...well, I know I am...but it's looking less like a gut, finally. I think it helped that I put on some maternity pants this morning, and it's shaping it all up nicely.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Dandelion: Yea for a bump! You will have to post a picture soon! I agree that maternity clothes help it round out a bit.
apricot / 335 posts
@HazelEyes: We have only told parents and siblings. My co-workers all know because I work in a clinic, and I have multiple people that have seen me at my appointments. But we have not told friends, FB, or other family yet. We are waiting until our 12 week scan.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@Dandelion: I am starting to show a bit too! Although people who didnt know me or haven't seen me in awhile would just think I've put on a few pounds. My tummy is still flat(ish) in the morning but as soon as I eat anything....pop!
I'll post to bump thread Friday when I'm 12 weeks!!

@Dandelion: yay for a bump! Maternity pants are the very best. So comfy!

I think I'm coming out today...telling my gram is basically telling everyone, and it's her birthday. I figure, our NT scan isn't until 13 weeks, so it's either now, or wait until the beginning of October. And I'm impatient! Plus, I've had random strangers guess, so it's probably better I tell her myself. Still, I'm nervous!!!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LovelyPlum: I know right?! Time is FLYING by! Happy birthday to your gram! I'm so excited that your family will get to celebrate this with you soon

hooray for sharing the news! we've still only told a handful of people--mostly people we've seen in person (all except my parents). so, my parents, his parents and sister, our friends that we went camping with when i was 7 weeks, and a friend I was with at a conference abroad when I was about 5 weeks (and really sick!). oh, and my friend who's wedding I'm going to miss in early April. so, my brother and sister in law don't know yet--we're going to visit them in early october so we'll wait until then. and most our friends don't know. I want to tell my bff and I've seen her twice recently, but always with other people so I haven't told her. and dh wants to tell his best friend but we haven't seen him yet. i need to tell my phd adviser soon--probably early oct so it's the end/near the end of the first trimester--because I need help figuring out if I should tweak my research/teaching schedule for le bebe!
dh's bday is this weekend so we invited friends to a bar on friday...it's going to be really awkward with people not knowing! i'm going to have to pretend to be drinking...and people will probably be buying me drinks...so awkward!
@LovelyPlum: aww telling your grandma is so sweet! we don't have any grandparents with us anymore so I'm jealous!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@nana87: good luck with your advisor. I was so scared to tell mine, but everyone in the department has been so great. We don't really get maternity leave, but I know that he and the DGS will advocate for me to the best of their ability. I'm hoping baby comes late so I have fewer weeks to worry about!
I'll let you guys know how it goes. Eeek!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@LovelyPlum: thanks! I think she'll be supportive--she has kids herself, though she waited until she had tenure to have them. I think my other (not main) advisor will be great--she was a single mom getting her phd in the late 60s so very much an advocate! plus I hear she's had doctoral students with babies in the past (though I don't know them) so hopefully she can put me in touch with some of them to figure out the grad school policies.

How is everyone feeling today? I slept literally all afternoon yesterday and then all night! I feel like I never get to see my poor DH anymore. I'm at work or I'm at home asleep! Zofran is still helping to keep the nauseau manageable for the most part. I will be ten weeks Wed. so can't help hoping that over the next few weeks I'll start feeling a little more normal again!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jhd: I'm trying...I slept all weekend, too! The fatigue has abated a bit, but after some nausea relief in week 8, it returned about 10 days ago and will. not. stop. I tried one more no-Zofran experiment, and it lasted about an hour, so it's still my trusty friend. If I'm tired, it's because of the nausea, but it now does this fun thing where it will wake me up and not let me fall back asleep. I've recently discovered the magic of graham crackers and am trying not to eat a box a day. I'm 10w5d (eek!) and am also looking forward to some relief hopefully soon. We can hope, right?! I hope that you feel better soon!
coconut / 8079 posts
@LovelyPlum: oh no! it did that to me during weeks 5 & 6. seriously could not sleep because the nauseau woke me up so often. i really hope that ends soon for you. no fun at all. i am sleeping better now so that's a plus.
cherry / 202 posts
@LovelyPlum: Graham crackers you say? *headed off to fill the Zofran prescription and pick up a box of grahams...*
I'm sick. I'm all the time-can barely make it out of bed-can't keep anything down-worried it might be HG-sick. I can't believe I wished for this a few weeks ago! My doctor called in a Zofran prescription today, so we're gonna give that a try...
coconut / 8079 posts
@sweetkeight: oh i'm so sorry. i hope the zofran gives you some relief. i've been taking it non stop for 3 or 4 weeks now.
cherry / 202 posts
@jhd: Does it make you terribly tired? I've been worried it would just make me sleepy...
watermelon / 14206 posts
I'm so sleepy! I'm very ready for second trimester to come along and wake me back up!

We are not quite out yet, but our families know and a friend or two. Most of my coworkers know, because many of them have figured it out (I've been struggling a lot at work, with the nausea and exhaustion). We're basically going public this weekend though, because we'll be at a wedding with all of my college friends so I'm going to break the news then. Plus we're telling work and giving our parents permission to share early next week. I'm sorta dreading it because I hate attention.
I'm feeling SO TIRED but now that I'm 12 weeks (!!!!) the nausea is starting to let up a bit. I get some relief; I'm throwing up less; and I even ate a salad at a wedding Friday night. Hoping so much that the end of this first-tri terrible is near....

@gilmoregirl: YAY for 12 weeks!!! I ate my first salad in months yesterday too lol I looked at DH and said "This is the turning point! No more French fries!"
cherry / 245 posts
Ugh I'm so glad to hear that some of you with earlier due dates are feeling relief from the nausea. I have not thrown up yet, but nothing sounds appealing to eat and I'm basically living on saltines, peanut butter, apples, and ginger ale. I'm trying to eat a little bit over the course of the day, but I am really just forcing myself to eat. Any recommendations?
